When you walk into the shop you are enveloped in the sweet smell of whatever they are baking. We were encircled in the sweet smell of sugar. You can see the baker's making each cookie and just like wine tasting, you can cookie taste. We had a sample of each and bought the lemon and ginger. I love homemade and this is truly homemade. Great tourist stop.

My father-in-law has had Mrs. Hanes Moravian Cookies for over 10 years now. This year he was set in sharing these treasures with the whole family. We live in Charlotte and he asked for my husband and I to pick up some cookies on our way to visit them in Greenville, NC. I was glad I encouraged him to place the order last week for his 15 bags of cookies. When we arrived we were greeted and told all cookies were sold out. After sharing with them we had an order to pick-up the ladies said joke and said they were glad we had the order to pick-up. Inside the store every was label and marked 6ft apart, extremely clean and had such a lovely cookie baked smelled. Our family will start a tradition to pick some ginger snap cookies every Christmas and probably throughout the year too. So happy to had found this gem.

This is such a cool place. We picked up a brochure in our hotel, and made this a stop - something to do while killing time until the next BBQ gorging. We got a little personalized tour - watched ladies roll out the dough and cut cookies, all by hand. The dough has to be rolled out very thin, and the cookies are baked for 10 or 11 minutes, resulting in nice, thin, crispy wafers. They mix dough in 500-700 pound increments, and it can be stored as long as a week, depending on the dough. Available in 6 delicious flavors, they have a special place in my heart for having black walnut flavor. Since black walnuts aren't native to this area, nor are they native to Moravia, I don't know where they would have come from, but they are awesome. And probably something most Americans have no taste for. BTW - the chocolate are also really really good. Everyone is super friendly - they pulled someone off the hand production line to show us around on a Tuesday morning, and you can buy their wares in the little lobby area - you probably aren't going to leave without some.

The Ginger cookies stand up to a 2-3 sec dip in coffee or cocoa and then totally dissolve in your mother.

This artisan bakery has undergone all health and department of agriculture inspections and been approved to prepare baked goods for wholesale and private sale. If you've never ordered a cake from a home bakery, we will walk you through the process we followed step by step. For our family, it started with deciding what type of cake my mom would like for her birthday, my dad would like for his birthday, and both parents would enjoy for their anniversary. My parents love old fashioned layer cakes with mountains of airy frosting. We browsed the photos and list of cake flavors in the Notes section on the WitsEnd Facebook page. Mom decided upon a coconut cake for her birthday. This was no ordinary coconut cake. Dubbed Grandma's Coconut Cake, the enticing dessert had been soaked for two days to saturate the cake with coconut flavor, then iced in a fluffy frosting and covered in flaked coconut. Six glorious layers of moist cake were slathered in a towering light-as-air frosting. Vicki Crouser, the owner of WitsEnd, has a contact number for the business on Facebook. We called, placed our order, and arranged a date to pick up the cake. When you work with any home bakery, due to restrictions you won't be able to pick up a cake directly at their home. You will arrange a time and public place for the cake delivery. This was quite convenient for us. Jerry met Vicki at the New Town Square shopping center at an agreed upon time on a day he planned on running other errands. Dad adores fruit .The Banana Pudding Cake was a perfect choice for his birthday treat. Four layers of sumptuous banana cake were filled with creamy banana frosting and vanilla wafer crumbles. This lavish sweet was hand delivered neatly in a labeled, sealed, cardboard cake box. If you don't finish the cake in one sitting, plan on making room in your refrigerator. All of the WitsEnd cakes use fresh butter and eggs. My parent's anniversary cake was a meeting of the minds so to speak. The Mandarin Orange Cake had the mandarin orange pieces my mom loves and the pineapple my dad cannot resist. The confection was an ambrosial tropical paradise. With all three cakes, we had no issues ordering or picking up the desserts. Vicki was always on time to deliver her box of sugary bliss. The WitsEnd Bakery Facebook also showcases beautifully decorated custom cakes for weddings and themed birthday parties. They make a variety of cookies like chocolate mint, chocolate berry, peanut butter tap taps, chocolate chip, gingerbread, and molasses. Several local restaurants serve WitsEnd Bakery cakes. For your next special occasion, veer away from the grocery store and head towards a local baker like WitsEnd bakery. It also allows for seating inside and access to the seating out on the patio more easily accessible. The cases are rearranged now and they've added gelato. I didn't try that, but it looked interesting. The worker who waited on me was so kind and helpful, and apologized for answering the phone while I was in there (there was no need, because you're running a business, I get it), but she was so polite! They always have a fun assortment of flavors of cupcakes but it's rather hit or miss what quality you will get. They have fun combinations and flavors and are always beautiful, but sometimes they are quite dense, sometimes super moist, and sometimes dry and will nearly choke you. My default cupcake is always the yellow cake with chocolate icing. I feel like it's hard to mess up. However, I tried a cookie this most recent time and didn't love it. It was really thick and hard to eat. The flavor wasn't great, either. This is definitely somewhere to stop in and try- just to say you did it. They were on Cupcake Wars, after all.
