We were in Oxnard running errands and wanted an informal lunch venue with a nice view of the water. Based on the photos available in Yelp, Mrs. Olson's seem like a good choice. Boy, were we right! Not easy to find. Navigation will take you to the parking lot, but the restaurant is not visible from the parking lot. Friday at noon, no problem getting a table outside on the patio overlooking the water. We sat at a table on the sand (interesting, because it is not near a beach, it is near harbor). My wife and I each opted to go with the build your own omelette ($17) and coffee ($3). The omelettes were huge.(see the photo) and absolutely delicious. The coffee was also excellent. Olivia, our server, was at our table, almost immediately, with a huge, welcoming smile. Service was excellent throughout the meal. Outstanding ambience, excellent service, terrific, food, and fair prices, plus $5 dollars off with a Yelp check in - this place is quite a find. We will be back. read more

We were a party of 8 for brunch on a Sunday. Much to our trepidation we saw a band setting up. We love live music, but not when it's loud and in your face while trying to chat with friends. To our pleasant surprise, the music was a perfect volume and they played some of our favorite jazz standards. My husband said the michelada was one of the best ones he's had. The service was a little slow, but all in all it was fine. We ended up with extra drinks, and we appreciated that the waitress actually came by to ask how many each of us had had so as not to over charge us for the ones we didn't keep. Banana Foster Waffle: Belgian waffle covered in our delicious Mrs. O's hot banana caramel drizzle and topped with whipped cream. Perfectly cooked, waffle, caramel drizzle and bananas, what's not to love! Chilaquiles: Scrambled eggs with corn tortilla chips, house made spicy tomatillo sauce, Jack cheese, sour cream and green onion. Served with Mrs o's potatoes or hash browns. The sauce was rather bland. This was an underwhelming dish. Philly Tri-Tip: Tri-tip, grilled onions and peppers with melted Jack cheese on a ciabatta roll. My friend, who is from Philadelphia said they need to rename this. It was a good sandwich, but this is NOT a Philly. tri tip sandwich! The onion rings were absolutely perfectly flavored and cooked. We love the ambience here. The weather was absolutely perfect and we couldn't have asked for a better day to enjoy brunch with friends and family. Can't wait to go back. read more

Definitely one of our top breakfast places. It is in such a nice location, right on the Oxnard Harbor with views of the water. While it can be lively, it can also be a very relaxing place to enjoy your breakfast. Service is always great, and they also allow dogs here. The food is delicious, and they have the most generous portions. The prices are just a tad bit higher than your typical breakfast restaurant, but the portions and flavors more than justify the price. We've come here and split a meal and had it be more than enough for the two of us. The crab cakes benedict is our favorite, but the most noteworthy dish is their famous potatoes. I've never been a fan of breakfast potatoes, but I will always eat all of the potatoes served here. They're crispy with great seasoning and some bacon mixed in. Delicious. read more

This place used to be great when it was located down the street on Hollywood Beach near the realtor's office. Since it moved and Ms. Olsen passed away, it has become awful! I've been here three times in the past four months, and each time I arrive, there's a strong smell of sewage. I ordered an omelet with light cheese and veggies. However, instead of light cheese, they piled on what seemed like an entire block of cheese. I didn't send it back, and I still tipped because I wanted to take the high road. The food is consistently oily and difficult to digest; I always end up rushing to the bathroom and literally blowing up the entire toilet just 15 minutes after eating. The server, a young guy, acted overly friendly but made very snide comments while smiling, which felt super passive-aggressive. I really think he is racist! Don't waste your time at Ms. Olsen's. Hollywood Beach Café took over Ms. Olsen's old location, and they are consistent. The food and service are always spot-on. Plus, it's owned by a veteran--let's support him! read more

Not sure why I gave this place another shot. The last time I was here there was sand or dirt in a salad and hair in my bloody Mary. I came back for breakfast and got it to go. Ordered chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, and got my child scrambled eggs. The gravy was flavorless and so thick - gravy is so simple to make but I think they only use flour and milk because I don't taste any kind of meat in it lol and the chicken fried steak was so stiff I could barely cut it. All the servers had to stop while he played anthems and stood up on a chair. I don't know if he still does that but if it's the same owner, then maybe I'll return because the servers are nice. I would only sit out on the patio because of the stench. I understand they now allow pets whereas they never used to and they had this big sandy patio. I think Hollywood Beach Café is kicking their ass so they needed to adjust. The food was good in the past and the servers were very nice. But having to wait for a table on a weekend and then listen to that fool make it a no go for me and all the people I know. I can remember sitting there for 45 minutes waiting for my food because he had to get his political beliefs across. I also get concerned about the Overall cleanliness. The only reason it's getting one star is because there's no zero stars and because the servers are good and the food is decent. I wonder if the owner still does that crap on Sundays? This business got an onslaught of bad reviews for not following COVID regulations at the peak of it all. Understandable. And I'm sure the business struggled during all those bad reviews. BUT ... I'm really shocked by the managers response to one of the reviews left by a customer. Sir, you didn't need to go off on one customer like that. Daaaaamn man. They didn't murder your family (at least I hope they didn't). The person didn't even say anything about COVID and even noted that the staff was friendly and attentive. But the manager proceeded to tell them to shove it up their A for the rest of us to see. Honestly, the place isn't bad! But holy hell did that response leave a bad taste in my mouth. Sam was my server and she was incredible! We cracked jokes and she gave us everything we needed. Wait was long but we came Sunday peak brunch. And food was good! Honestly I'm trying to be fair here in giving the place a 3 because at the ground level employees and food was great. But seeing Matt's response to that one review shows me how he runs the business. This was our second visit to Mrs Olsons for breakfast. The first time was great, this time not so much. My brother and I ordered our breakfast, it wasn't very busy , took about 30 min. The food was ice cold, okay it happens, sent it back, about 10 minutes later it came back out, reheated from the microwave. Now I don't know about you but reheated microwaved scrambled eggs and french toast just doesn't work, it gets rubbery and hard. Restaurant was 3/4 full today, but me my wife and toddler ordered the easiest meals "Big Basic" and a biscuit and gravy plate. Biscuits are canned and were under cooked, 100%. Sausage and bacon were flavorless, scrambled eggs so runny I had to use my napkin to mop it up. Water was warm tap water. $60 for two adult and one toddler sized plate, and that's with the discount from the restaurant cause she felt bad it took 50 minutes to get out food. Came here for brunch last weekend! My family comes here often and says great things about this place. I got the taco platter. So for starters, the chicken in the tacos was not seasoned at all, they tasted like margarine. Once adding pepper and salt they were decent mixed with all the guacamole and salsa. The beans that came with the platter were honestly my favorite part. The guacamole was decent, the salsa was okay. I wasn't very happy with the meal I chose. I really enjoyed the food and ambience of cool and different type of tables and live band stage. A friendly place to take your dog and see the birds that come in and seek food. I love the coffee and breakfast potatoes!! Staff is friendly... the only bad thing I have to say is that the kitchen takes for EVER to make your meal, so don't be in a rush and you'll enjoy it. 10/02/2021 Came here right when they opened at 8:00 am to score outdoor patio seating for our large group of nine to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Our server, Diego (and another male server that helped with drinks/coffee) were SO AWESOME and patient with our large party. We had an awesome outdoor patio table with the view of the water. The food portions are definitely shareable if you're not starving. The house potatoes were seasoned well and delicious! The hash browns were cooked crispy. Their signature Crab Cake Benny was DELICIOUS! The crab cake was lightly fried and not too "seafoody" (is that a word?). The poached egg went well with the crab cake and all the flavors together was perfect. I would definitely get this again. Their biscuit and gravy side was also definitely shareable. However on the good side or waitress was very nice the service was good and they did at least take 50% off of my meal I feel like they could have taken off a little bit more considering that I didn't eat hardly any of the food...one bite. Chicken fried steak was way over cooked, this thing called a biscuit was not a biscuit and was as hard as a hockey puck and hash browns were, well, not good either.
