The drag car
Clayton C.

These guys are awesome. The upper trans cooler line on my drag car was stripped in the case. Without a lift i couldnt repair it myself. I called them on a saturday morning and had it towed there right away. Within a couple of hours they had already retapped it. I had my baby back home by afternoon. Awesome work. Definitely recommend them.

MS Auto Gears is run by Manjit and his son. Manjit has been working on cars since he was 13. In a past life he also worked for Mercedes in Germany assembling engines - which he considers easy work. I have a 1988 Toyota pickup with 155,000 miles that I have owned for 19 years. For 2 years I noticed a bearing noise from the transmission, louder when it was in 5th gear. For 2 years I tried to find a local shop that could rebuild my transmission and knew Toyotas. I did not want to buy a rebuilt or used transmission from a wrecking yard. I wanted my original transmission rebuilt. I found Manjit by chance because he is next door to a Porsche shop that was replacing the clutch on my Boxster. Manjit showed me around his shop and I spoke to him several times while my Boxster was next door. Manjit knows his stuff. His knowledge is not limited to Toyotas. Also knows Jeeps, Montero, Hummer, and I think anything that moves or crawls. He not only rebuilds transmissions, but rear ends, transfer cases, and rebuilds engines. Also restores vehicles from the ground up. If a part is no long available he makes it! Manjit pulled my transmission and when it was apart he called me so I could look. I had 2 bad bearings. Manjit put in a rebuild kit that includes new Japanese bearings, syncros, seals, and gaskets. I also asked him to resurface the flywheel, put in a clutch kit, and replace the rear oil seal. I was lucky to find Manjit by chance after 2 years of searching for a local shop to rebuild my transmission. My 20 year old pickup now drives like it did when I bought it 19 years ago

Haven't met someone who knew so much about cars. I was…read morerecommended to Winston's shop through a family friend about a year ago. I had issues with my CRV and it started making a weird noise that was coming from the wheel well. I took it to two different mechanics. One said it was the brakes. So I paid to have it changed but the noise was still there. The next mechanic said it was an alignment issue so...I paid to have THAT done and the noise was still there. Finally, I heard from a close friend that he knew a guy that could fix it. Took it to Winston and he diagnosed it to be a wheel barring issue. If I didn't get it fixed soon, then it would have caused more damage. Winston fixed it for a good price and the noise went away. Now, I take all my cars and he gets it fixed and at a fair price.

Winston is one of the last honest mechanics that I know of and one of the few things that I miss…read moreabout living in the bay area. I don't write reviews often but Chet's deserves one here…read more I took my 2007 Honda CRV to Chet's (Vu), as I was having steering issues and some noises after recent repair from two different mechanics. Vu took it immediately for a test drive with me in the passenger seat. He could feel the same issue I did. He then put it on the lift and inspected it thoroughly. He wasn't sure of the issue exactly but was transparent in the discussion and thinking. Given the car had been worked on recently by others, I can understand why he would be hesitant to take it on. He noted that "my reputation is more important than one car" or similar, which I understand and respect too, as he said he has been in business for 20 years. He considered his best recommended repair with available information but wasn't pushing it, as it's a pricey repair. Looking to get a second opinion, he then had a different co-worker take another look. The co-worker slid under the car and was able to identify an issue, which was a loose bolt from the prior mechanic. The team right then lifted the car and tightened all the bolts, then took it on a second test drive, and the sounds went away and the steering issue seemed improved. Vu spent about an hour on this work combined with another 15-20 minutes from two or three other people too. After all that, he told me not to pay anything, though I offered! He could have pushed the more expensive repair and I would have very likely gone ahead with it, but he didn't. I need to test drive it further to see how it ddrives, but Vu said if still having issues to come back then to discuss where we go from there. For now, the sounds at least have gone away which is promising! Thank you!!!
