I've had both of my trucks serviced at toy connection m; unless you have a vintage Toyota that just cannot be serviced anywhere else - run away as fast as you can and get yourself a different mechanic. Jeff and his partner have had my Tundra now for 5 weeks. I call 3x a week and I still can't get an update as to what the diagnosis is, what the cost might be, when the truck will be ready, or literally any information that might help me get a sense of what is actually going on. The lady who picks to when you call is generally helpless and has no idea what the status is of any vehicle in the shop's care, she doesn't call back, doesn't follow through on any commitments, and literally can't even tell me if the truck is in driving condition and when they'll be done with it. This mirrors my last two experiences getting service or upgrades done at this place. Save yourself time and your sanity and take your vehicle elsewhere. read more

I have never wrote a review on Yelp. But this service has made me do it. Please Stay away from this place. Jeff is a very smart guy, but he is also the biggest lier. It so unprofessional. I have been waiting for multiple weeks/months to have parts done, when he said it would be done between 3-4 days. I call to get updates and he just responds with the same thing over and over and over again. He response" It will be ready tomorrow"... which obviously isn't the case. I wish I could just cancel my order, but he made me give a big hefty deposits. And its gotten to the point that I don't even feel confident even talking to him without him raising his voice. I was originally quoted $350.00 for parts and labor to replace the black plastic valence on the front bumper. I supplied the new headlights and turn signals for them to to replace the old ones while they were working on installing the new valence. Which was very little extra work as they had to remove the old lights to remove the bumper. After waiting all afternoon and it was dark out; they finished my car and I was told the price is $650.00 cash. I reluctantly paid the amount and ask for an invoice for my records. I requested an invoice several times and now I am taking the next step. I located my original notes where Jeff quoted me a price which was $350.00 parts and labor. I called numerous times and texted Toy Connection and have still not resolved this matter with them. I feel like this was a bait and switch quote or maybe a few too many beers that afternoon. Not sure, but I would like to resolve this matter and possibly do future business with them. At this point I feel ripped off.... and not sure if I would recommend or use them in the future. This is a great place to go if you have extensive knowledge of your truck and need a quick hand or some parts. I'd highly suggest staying away from this place if you do not know what you are doing and are not willing to micromanage them. They will take months to work on your vehicle and you'll need to call them over and over until they hate you in order to get it done. And by the time they finally get it done, they will forget a lot of the things that needed to be done. Jeff will likely be slightly drunk and cut corners on the jobs, but all that said...he will know what the hell he is talking about. This guy is a master with Toyota trucks. Buy parts from him, you'll likely get a decent deal if you know what a good deal actually is, and if you need some input, ask him what he thinks. I truly think he enjoys hopping in a car and helping people too. But he doesn't want to fix your car, I don't even think he wants to own this business. I am the owner two 1985 Toyota Pickup trucks. One diesel and one gasoline. I've been to a few different "Toyota Specialists" throughout the state, and while they all suffer from the same problem, being overworked and constantly busy, I have stopped going elsewhere and only work with these guys. Reading through the reviews I hear and understand some of the complaints, it is frustrating trying to deal with a business that is way too busy for their own good, but I think it is important to keep in perspective that they are busy for a good reason, they are good at what they do, and can find parts that you can't anywhere else. One of the trucks that I picked up is a rare bird, 1985 Toyota Pickup DLX Turbo. It has been a dream truck of mine for a long time now. Unfortunately, I picked it up as a project truck from someone else who had given up. The previous person had taken it to two of the most reputable "Toyota Specialists" in the state. Unfortunately, they didn't really do a good job, and may have turned my project into a bigger nightmare. Thanks to the good folks at Toy Connection, Jeff, Chuck, Tom, Manuel, Carlos, and Sherry, and a little bit of patience, one by one we have been able to tackle almost every problem that has come up. An ounce of patience and appreciation goes a really long way with these guys. Living the off-grid off-road life isn't easy, and often comes with emergency mechanic work necessary at the worst time. The point is, sometimes I may have to wait around all day to have it addressed, but they have saved my ass several times now, always making the necessary accommodations to get me back on the road and functional again. The years of wisdom behind this group is amazing. They won't waste your time endlessly chasing a problem with no end in sight. They also won't tell you it can't be fixed, when it really can. I've witnessed the genius with which they problem solve and isolate things, and do what other repair shops say is impossible, or exorbitant. I also find them deeply compassionate and sympathetic, and they have worked with me at times when I needed the assistance the most. For all of the above, I'm extremely grateful. Take the ups with the downs. If patience is necessary for the best job done, appreciate the time and experience which has gone into the wisdom that leads to a good job done well. Brought my '03 runner here and received a sweet quote. So it was aces with the decision. I arrived and it looks a little shady. But the reviews said otherwise for the service itself. I left and was told about 5 pm it would be done. I received a call about 4pm Zander all was gravy. They weren't able to get the alignment that was quoted in the time as well but other than that, all was taken care of and looks and feels great! NEVER, I MEAN NEVER GO HERE! I bought a new rebuild motor here 20 months ago. Already blew out a gasket and is completely rusted on the inside of the motor. He promised to "take care of me". He never told me he would charge me for anything fixing his motor and did not have me fill out a work order/estimate, nothing! Key points regarding my experience with this business and its owner Jeff: - The truck sat there for exactly 31 days! Before they replaced a simple gasket. -Because they work in a junk yard they have no room to park customers' cars. They parked mine way down the street across from some business and it got a ticket. -I called him 19 times over a period of 31 days. Each time he was very short over the phone giving me a new excuse of "haven't gotten around to it yet" or "should be done in a few days". These excuses were repeated for a month. He's not capable of staying on the phone for more than 8 seconds at a time. -Not once during any phone call did he tell me he would want compensation for re-fixing his work. When the truck was finally finished he drops the bomb of wanting X amount, bla bla. I explained how unprofessional he was and how disappointed I am. He agreed to accept a mere $200 for a random additional part replaced. And I requested to part ways amicably, we agreed after I listened to him whine. -I show up this morning my truck wedged between 5 cars in a narrow driveway with Jeff and his receptionist both cursing at me calling me a "piece of sh*t" and being aggressive in their body language. I'm wearing a suit and tie, without me saying one word back, he grabs his tools and begins to undue parts under the hood and take back his work. Who does that?!?! We already agreed to $200 cash over the phone when you calmed down yesterday. He was so intent on making a scene he'd rather put back bad parts on a customer's vehicle instead of taking $200 cash requested by HIM! -I had to CALL THE COPS! They had to mediate the situation and oversee he was not sabotaging the vehicle, cutting wires, loosening bolts, etc. It took a while, but he finally released my truck. And it drives like shit now! -When the cops showed it seemed routine to come to Toy Connection, as if they've done this before. hahaha -Furthermore, when I picked up my truck, the ticket that was placed on my vehicle during Toy Connection's possession is missing along with my registration card that was in my glove compartment. MYSTERIOUS!. These guys were filled with retaliation for an upset that is simply not my problem or fault! -This place is FILTHY! Keep in mind, it IS a wrecking yard, first and foremost, so don't expect a clean lobby with leather couches and copies of the latest Conde Nast on the coffee table. I had the worst experience here and my advice is to simply avoid and go elsewhere. This place has nothing to offer. Jeff told me he was the best in the area and badmouthed all the other shops that specialize in Toyotas. Jeff kept my truck for months before he tore it apart...then he kept it for years no making any progress on it. He needs to be micromanaged and supervised constantly. The manchild may have undiagnosed ADHD and for sure is dealing with alcoholism. The place is an absolute mess and my truck sat there so long (3 years) the employees told me they thought it was for parting out. I would call every few months ask for a quote and beg him to finish it to return it and he would do nothing but whine and make excuses get pissed off at me. At one point I asked if i could take it in as is uncompleted. That really set him off. He went from being confident that he was prepared and qualified that he could handle the job better than anyone around to a complete victim and nothing was in his control or his fault he keeps saying over and over im not making any money on this im losing money on this etc etc . I was told it "was ready next week" or "it will be ready friday" or "chucks working on it right now" I'd drive 45 minutes to the shop and wait there all day and it wasn't ready. when i finally drove it away ,i had to bring it back it kept sputtering and shutting off its leaks lots of oil and he kept it for months again and the deadlines and promises were never met again. He told me to come back and get the truck he fixed it but the same problem (massive oil leak on new engine turbo noise and wont stay running) still there and he wont take care the problem. says hes isnt gonna fucken restore my shit for me. now hes making it seem like im asking something im not so that he can shirk responsiblity like alcoholics do. I had it accessed by a AAA approved shop and they said "people like him are why folks do not trust mechanics, this is awful work, makes us all look bad" jeff sucks a big one stay away from here. They charged me 2000$ one month later my block starts to sounds weird I call them back I get blamed for not taking care of my truck?. I am writing this review to help Jeff the owner of Toy Connection to get what he wants. I have been to Toy Connection 10 to 12 times. Jeff told me twice he "hates the business and he wants to get out of it". The last deal I had with Jeff was a parts car trade for an e-locker for my Tacoma. He said it would take one day for installation. I told him "take three days and there's two six packs of beer for him, sherry, Chuck and all the guys". Four days went by I called and it wasn't ready. After six days I called and it wasn't ready. On the eighth day I called, Sherry said come on over at 5:00 but if it wasn't ready she would call me. There was no call from sherry so I showed up at 5:30 and it wasn't ready. Sherry was nice and calmed me down and said Jeff was having a very bad day. In his mad rush to finish the job he told me he had a family trip the next day and that his family was more important than mine. I said "OK". He asked me if I could come back the following week for the e-locker electrical harness install. I said "absolutely not a problem". Then after watching him run around like a chicken with its head cut off Jeff turned to me and said "I hate this business and don't come next week or ever". He has a great staff Sherry, Chuck, Tom, Ken and Manuel and piles literally piles of Toyota 4x4 parts and great knowledge. I actually feel sorry for him. Because he also has tons of pain inside that he doesn't know where to put it and he will try to give it to you. So if you are DESPERATE bring another truck for all emotional garbage that Jeff just may give you. There should be a negative star rating for businesses like this. I noticed that from the other reviews that you DO have to drive communications, know what you are talking about, and expect a relatively long repair cycle. It's always nice to be respectful, let them resolve the problem, and pay cash with auto mechanics as well (or pretty much any independent service business). That's how I operate, so I was o.k. with all of that with that right from the start. I have an 87 Toyota 4runner, which is the kind of car these guys specialize in. I have a second car, and a bicycle, and I hate driving anyway, so I always take public transit and ride-sharing when I can. In other words, I could care less if it takes a week to repair the tranny on my truck. I've had these guys do quite a bit of work on my truck. Brought it there half a dozen times. Lots of major stuff - engine, tranny, clutch, you name it. And there is more to do as I beat the crap out of that thing every time I drive it. I plan to keep having them do all my repairs going forward. I have a pretty good understanding of cars, and can do a lot of work myself, but I choose to spend my time inside cars or on a bicycle, not under cars. Generally, I know when I'm getting good work done. These guys do pretty good work, and at a good price. For some of the work, I first obtained rough estimates over the phone from a close shop to my home, because I was just too lazy to go to Santa Clara - pricewise, it's always come out to be a much better deal to just go to Santa Clara. They are overbooked, and they work in a warehouse with only a couple bays, and they have a junkyard built up all around them. So don't go there looking for super fast service, or a super clean environment. It's going to take as long as it takes and it's going to get done right. The caveats to that are: 1) Obviously they want to move you through as fast as they can because they can't store your car, so sometimes you car is done quickly. 2) They will sometimes make mistakes like everyone else, but the mistakes they have made on my car are exceedingly minor, and they fixed them the next time I brought it in. I highly recommend these guys for anyone with a Toyota truck. That's all I have experience with. Don't know if they can fix your SAAB. I get the feeling these guys all own toyota 4-wheel drive trucks and enjoy them. read more
