This review is for the pro shop, too. And ski patrol, sort of. At the end of last season they were having a sale, and offering 40% off for pass holders. I was trying to make up my mind between a couple of boards, and since I couldn't demo first I took the shop guys' advice and bought a Lib Tech Skunk Ape BTX with reverse camber and Magnetraction serrated edges. Wow, what a board! In 26 years of snowboarding and probably seven different boards, this is easily the best I've ever had! I'm glad I took their advice. So, early in the 2010-2011 season, I was eating lunch on a windy day, when I saw my board outside get blown over and slide past the ski school and down into the creek! We had just gotten at least 14 inches, so the last 10-15 feet into the creek was straight down, and my poor board (which I had only ridden about six times by then) hit its nose on the rocks hard. I scoped it out but it was far too dangerous for me to scramble down into the creek, but luckily, an extremely helpful and patient ski patroller took the time to ski down there, rope up to a tree, belay down into the creek, and claw his way back out with my board. Hooray for ski patrol! I brought the board into the shop feeling bummed and pessimistic because the nose was split and splintered pretty bad. But I left it with them for about a week and their best/most experienced guy did an amazing job fixing it up. It was almost good as new. Huge thanks to the master repairman there!! Soooo glad that I was finally able to snowboard in the PNW! Lots and lots of powder, however sometimes it was a bad thing. I frequently got stuck and wasn't able to get up cus of all the powder. Who knew too much powder could be a bad thing? Not this Californian. Meadows has a good number of runs, some of them sucked, the others were fun. I seemed to be going on the runs that had a lot of ups and downs (not the park runs) and if you didn't get enough speed, you had to walk and ride back down. What I loved about this place was how easy it was to get your lift ticket, load it, and re use it for next time!! Also, it was very empty. :) I never waited for a single lift. read more

A friend of mine invited me and the misses to Mt. Hood Meadows for a ski vacation over President's Day weekend, and it didn't disappoint. The crowds were out in full force, the conditions were OK, but there's a lot to like about this place. The crowd control getting onto the lifts is very good. The lift operators do their best to keep it fair and move people as quickly as possible. They also have very flat unloading zones so people don't fall as much on the green and blue trails, which helps keep things moving. The lift operators were also really friendly. My fiancee is still learning her edge control and found the Buttercup run to be perfect. Not to steep, but long enough to practice in a nice wide open space. I had a great time taking the Cascade Express to the top and linking lots of different trails together. I wish there were a few more lifts to move up the mountain faster, but most of the trails (especially the blue trails) hook up nicely. Mt favorite trail was Vista Ridge, which was a green with some blue offshoots that were really fun. Inside the lodge, you get the usual slow, mouthy wait staff you've come to know and hate at ski resorts. The food was substandard in every way and the prices were pretty high, even for a ski resort. The skiers here suck. I got hit twice by dumb inattentive skiers. One from behind, and the other sideswiped me, going out of control. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, but manageable. read more

This resort offers a great Park & Ride option for $79. Single adult lift tix is $74. On a day with bad weather the only had 3 lifts open. How can you charge full price with only 1/4 of the resort is open? I understand you can't control the weather but you can have more staff operating lifts. If you charge full price I expect a fully open resort. It's a beginner/novice resort as it isn't very big. Also, very little grooming on the mountain...lockers are a steep $8. Mt. Hood Meadows is a great resort to have close to Portland. I wouldn't drive more than three hours to come ski here (as I readily would to ski at Mt. Bachelor), but from Portland its about 1.5 hours, and it has a lot to offer. Parking is made easy, the staff are friendly and helpful (scattered generously all over the lodge, mountain, and parking lot), and the skiing is great. A wide variety of runs offers something for everyone - big double black diamond bowls, lovely long winding green runs, a nice variety of intermediate terrain, and some fun hidden little runs through trees and little valleys. There is also a lot of backcountry terrain that I'll admit I know nothing about since I'm frankly not that good at skiing or snowboarding. I also took advantage of their $99 learn-to-snowboard package and I think its a fantastic way to learn to ski/snowboard. I was a life-long skiier and wanted to try something new. So for $99, I got three lessons, three rentals, and three lift tickets. It got me started and while the instructors varied in their skills, everyone was great and now I'm an avid snowboarder. Meadows isn't in the same class of resorts as Whistler or Mt. Bachelor, but its very nice and for the price of a season pass, its a great deal. read more

I am a bit surprised by the complaints about this mountain's ticket price. The comparison is always the much smaller Timberline. If you ski anywhere else in the country ticket prices are equal or higher than at Meadows. Here are what I view are the trade offs: 1. Base Lodge is clean and well organized. 2. Food is decent and abundant. 3. Terrain is so varied that from beginner to expert there is enough to challenge all comers. 4.They do a very nice job grooming but do not over groom like some areas. 5. If you come early parking is no problem. 1. Crowds and traffic: In many areas of the country the traffic and parking are not an issue. You also are not 1 1/2 hours from skiing. Areas the size of Meadows are 5 hours from NY, 2.5 to 4 hours from Boston and 2 to 3 hours from Denver with Denver having equally horrendous traffic at times. Meadows is just another reason why living in Oregon is a pleasure. read more

To start with, I am a ski snob. I've spent enough winters as a ski patrolman and racer to earn that right. One of the big draws to the Pacific Northwest for me was the close proximity of ski mountains. Since Mt. Hood Meadows was supposedly the premiere place to get your ski on I bought a season pass my first year up here. I spent enough time on the slope to learn the mountain, but I was left underwhelmed. There are a few great runs. But the problem is they are few and far between and they do not link up well. After an epic powder run you are often left polling or skating your way out of one of the many remote spots on the mountain. Great spots should link up to great spots, not painfully under serviced parts of the mountain, as is the case at Hood Meadows. On weekends, the mountain's lines are horrid. I found myself riding the scary creaky 2 man center pole lift because the high speed quad lifts had 45 minute lines. Ouch! This mountain is too close to Portland and gets bad overcrowded as a result. The pay for parking scheme is also unnecessary. The Forest Service pass they make you buy is an extra headache and if you fail to have one there will be a ticket waiting for you on your windshield. I feel cheated because my tax money (and the timber fees that are handed out for pennies on FS land) should already have paid for the plowing and use of this ski resort. read more

God forbid if a fresh snow day occurs on the weekend. Your day will start and end with a traffic jam caused by all the people who come up in inappropriate vehicles with inappropriate tires. The lift lines are long, and generally, on a snow day, the upper chairs won't open. This creates even longer lines on the lower chairs. If Heather Canyon is not open, there is very limited challenging terrain, and there seems to be very little grooming (or the groomed runs get torn up very quickly). It's really not their fault that they cannot expand to accommodate the growing population base in Portland. There are over 2.6 million people in the metro area, and the resorts on Mt. Hood were designed decades ago, with inadequate lift capacity, inadequate roads, and inadequate parking. Thank the enviro nazis for that. read more

Mt Hood Meadows is a great Mt. The problems are that they lack parking so if you are early enough not to be turned away from a parking lot then you have to get on a shuttle unless you make it to the small main lot. On 12/29/14 we waited 1 hr 45 min to catch a shuttle to the Mt. and 1 hr to catch one back to the parking lot. It appears who ever coordinates the shuttles is a moron and should be fired. It was a uncoordinated disaster. All of the bus drivers were doing their own thing and not listening to the individual coordinating the pickups. The pickup points were always changing and it became whoever run to the bus the fastest would get a ride (I had 3 kids with me). There was no starting point in the lines for the buses just chaos. A simple sign for the pickup point would have made all the difference on the way out. Waiting for a shuttle back to your car is not unusual. It seems to happen to us quite frequently in our last 5 years of skiing here. In addition the lodge is way to small for the size of the Mt. I have skied many places in America and Oregon and by far Mt Hood Meadows has the worst parking and lodge accommodations for the size of the Mt. The Mt itself is a great place to ski it is to bad it is ran by an individual at the top who I feel is incompetent at running a effective resort. read more

Last year was my first season snowboarding. After my first time at meadows, we had bought a season pass for the spring season. That $109 was well worth it. At around $72 per ticket, if you go twice at least, the season pass saves you money. Meadows quickly became my mountain home as their slogan states. I made it up around 15 times throughout the course of the spring season and loved it each and every time. The food is good and reasonably priced. I do wish however that the cafe had more seats because it fills up on those busy days. Meadows definitely helped me develop a love for shredding knar. read more

Horrible service in the rental department, the quality of snowboard binding is simply terrible !!! I almost crashed while skiing down the slope, my foot almost flew out of the binding and I was barely able to ski all the way down. Came to them with my friend, because my English is very bad, and my friend speaks good English, he explained the problem, but they said that this is what they have and if I want a better binding I need to upgrade for extra 10$. So my total just for the snowboard (I have my own boots and helmet) was 59$!!! And that's how they address SAFETY issues with their equipment. This is the first real mountain I had been in over two years, and admittedly I was a bit rusty (especially considering this was the first time I hit the slopes this season). Getting here was a bit of an adventure; one-because we got distracted by the breweries on the way here in Mt. Hood city, and two-because my GPS failed us. I was stunned at how much snow there was on the ground given that it was not even Christmas and it was like 20 deg warmer down in Portland. We were happy just to get here in one piece, especially given that everyone looked at me funny when I told them I would be driving a rental Chevy Sonic up to the resort. Good times. I think only half the runs were open but there was certainly enough for me to get by a$$ kicked by them. Moguls one, Samir zero. This was a rip roaring good time. You're going love this.. I was here and NOT skiing * laughs*!! anyhow, this was a great place for a music venue. Had a great time watching Left Coast Country, a local Portland band, you must check out. We were in the Vertical lounge and this place rolls up shop pretty early- ok I guess during the season, but we spent three hours here watching the band. I would normally not be up here, I do not ski but the DH does - but not this time. I would visit again if the situation warranted. Would not go to be going by choice though. The bartender was pretty funny, but I think he didn't like me. I was ignored until my DH got back. I wanted another drink, but the bartender was ignoring me. We ordered food. I ordered the bruchetta,but DH ordered the meatball sub with no peppers or onions but guess that was too hard to fulfill. His sub had both. Overall a nice place to kill the time, but not my first choice. read more

I was so surprised at how easy and streamlined getting lift tickets and renting equipment was. We had a day planned with another family who had their own gear. I was a bit nervous at the time it used to take to get lift tickets and gear situated, but with on line purchase of a lift/gear package for myself and my 9 yr old, life was grand. I would highly recommend getting the on line packages, as they were convenient and less expensive than purchasing on site. The staff was patient, polite and answered any questions my son and I had. Excellent customer service! When it was time to break for lunch, we went to the AlpenStube in the main lodge. The food was good, staff attentive and priced not too bad. There were good gluten free options that were notated on the menu and any questions were answered accordingly. All this with having 3 boys under the age of 9 with us, over tired and hungry! It's unfortunate people rave about Meadows. The lines suck most days and they don't even open all the chairs on weekends-leading to longer waits. The terrain isn't great either - a couple short turn followed by some cat track to another couple turns. Sure Heather Canyon can be great but the place is just one kick in the nuts after another. For what they charge, their chairs suck, the lift operators barely manage the lines effectively and this is on top of them limiting tickets due to COVID. Can't imagine post COVID. read more

I am disappointed with meadows today. I signed my oldest son up for snowboarding lessons, as advertised, I got a free adult lift pass. I went and played with my youngest son while my spouse took the lift pass and skied. He was fined 140$ for using the lift pass because it was "registered under someone else's name". We were never told that the pass was registered under my name or that the passes were not interchangeable. I am extremely upset about this $140 fine for their employees not informing us that this would be the case. The terrain is incredible and the staff work for hours on end to make your experience enjoyable. Although cascade may be closed on less than perfect days but it's for a darn good reason. Very Disappointed. The disappointment only was made worse because as I drove up the mountain, I was explaining the difference in resorts on the mountain to my wife. I was saying that Meadows was the family oriented resort and was always friendly as opposed to Timber Line who was geared toward boarders and terrain parks. We purchased a pass for the beginner lift at the beginning of the season for my 2-year-old son. Being selfish, my thought was to teach the kid young so that we could both be skiing in a couple years together. The kid loves it each and every time we've gone. Today was not the same experience as the many other days. Today as we got on the escalator for the first "run" I was told that I had to have a ski pass myself. I explained that I have gone multiple times this year and have never been asked for a pass for myself. I was in regular walking boots and only there to help get my now 3-year-old son comfortable on skis. I have not gone up one time this year with any skis or board for myself. But today, they wanted me to pay for a pass for myself if I wanted to walk behind my son as I taught him how to ski. I spoke to Jennifer Brandt, lift operations manager. I explained that no one ever told me that I had to have a pass for myself when walking behind my son when we first purchased the pass nor any other time this season. I explained that because it was the weekend before the end of the season, that I believed that it was only fair to comp a $10 lift ticket to satisfy their policies. It was an outright refusal. I again explained that it was very disheartening to purchase a pass with no comments ever made for a 3-year-old child to need an adult with a pass too, and then drive over an hour to the resort to be told that in order to use the pass that we paid for, would require more money today. I asked, if I wanted, could I get a refund for the pass that we were now told we were not able to use? She replied back that I should be charged for the days that I was there with my son and never asked for a ticket myself. I understand the policy and would have been fine with making the decision to purchase a pass for myself early in the season. I would have even gotten 2 passes for next season knowing the policy. I then on the way out spoke to a manager at the concierge desk. They had the exact same reaction, "tuff luck". What was the disheartening aspect of the day, was the lack of customer service to recognize the situation and the time in the season to be addressing this issue. The resort had every opportunity to address the issue and find a compromise to keeping guests happy. I guess I was wrong with my assessment that Meadows is the family oriented resort. I guess I was wrong in choosing to teach my son to ski at a resort that does not value the relationship with their guests. Next year we will get our passes from Timer Line. It doesn't sound like Meadows will miss our business. read more

Me and my girlfriend reserved 2 lift tickets/rentals to come snowboarding on MLK in advanced. At the last minute my 61 year old bf decided to come too. He did not go online and reserve anything advanced. Upon his arrival he was shut down real quick and told he cannot get skis rented cuz you must do it 48 hours in advance. Here we are wanting to do a evening ski with no one in line and not even a exception to the rules. There were plenty on skis to go around. So he leaves to ski bowl to rent skis and comes back up to meadows to join us but first he must buy a lift ticket. He is told he must buy it online. He does not know how to do things online and had forgot his glasses so he couldn't read. After 40 minutes of trying to set up a account to get a lift ticket for evening ski a worker girl came over to help him read it. He was rudely interrupted by another worker and told that she could not help him and that he must do it on his own. So she leaves him and once the guy worker left she grabbed him and said she was so sorry and that she would sell him a lift ticket at the counter. So it was possible to do at the counter but they made a farse out of it. Give him a break we just drove 3 hours to ski for a few hours. I just can't believe that they treated customers like this when it was slowing down no lines nothing. Do better and just give us a warning when we make a mistake like that and be helpful to others who can't see! read more

If you don't need to rent gear and plan on leaving by 4 pm, I suggest parking at HRM. You can buy lift passes at the small cafe near the parking lot and it is right next to the lift so you can start skiing immediately and ski out for lunch/departure. Main lot is usually full unless you get there super early and Sunrise requires you to take a shuttle up to the main lodge (however, you can ski down to the lot). Lots of great blue runs :) read more

I ski or snowboard here 5-10 times a year, winter and spring. And that's been the case for decades. So it makes me sad to have to say that this mountain is severely lacking in management... just a few changes would make this place world class. The biggest problem is an absolute lack of grooming. Unless you love chewed up, bumpy runs, you should plan on getting here early and leaving mid day. Even on a perfect powder day (like today), every run is mess by lunch. Kids and old people stop having fun as the runs become progressively more difficult and rough. Seriously Meadows, just run a single groomer during the day and keep your greens and blues somewhat smooth. Your users will have more fun, fewer injuries, and a lot more smiles. There're plenty of bumps and chunks on the advanced runs and off-trail; you don't need the bunny slopes to have bumps! Also, add a few more ticket sellers... it's a crime to force everyone to stand in line for 30 minutes to buy a ticket from one of three ticket sellers. I'll still visit you often, Meadows, but it's heartbreaking to see how close you are to being a true destination... but you never quite get there. read more

1. This resort was overly crowded when we recently went there, which could be due to president's day long weekend. Rentals are way overpriced ($46), as compared to $30 in Willamette pass. They also charge $10 for a locker, seriously?? 2. Dining facilities were so crowded and the quality of food was very poor and not worth the wait. I'd recommend you bring your own food with you. 3. Customer service wasn't very helpful as we were trying to exchange a full lift ticket for a first timer package. That being said, $60 for a lift ticket is too much. 4. Men bathrooms were so smelly. They probably don't realize that you still have to clean urinals even if they are water-free. Overall experience is "Meh", find yourself a better resort that's worth the money you're spending. read more

Just had the best experience today with mt hood meadows ski school for our 7-year old grandson. I'm just blown away at the individualized attention he received and the improvement we saw. The instructor taught our grandson good ski basics, but also made it fun and even took a break for a snow ball fight! Very family friendly and the staff were all helpful!! read more

TL:DR Dont ever ever buy their season pass!! Definitely not the pass protection because it doesn't mean shit. Really bad experience my friend had with them. She had been a loyal customer last winter season. This time she made the mistake of buying the season pass for $400 with a damned pass protection, but she had to move further away and had a wrist injury. Now, she never ever used that season pass even once. But nonetheless the highly unprofessional and empathy lacking customer service first made her go pillar to post to get the doctor's note. When she had a perfectly fine doctor's note, they nitpicked and cribbed about how the doctor's note should have certain specific statements in them. After my highly patient friend got the doctor's note ratified, much to her and her doctor's inconvenience, they say that they are going to give her a refund of paltry 45%. Are you guys kidding me ? I ride meadows a lot. I have had a pass the last 5 years. This weekend was pretty frustrating and I realized its been this way for a while. it gets SO crowded. The main lot is full by 9 and we had to park in HRM. ok...but when you realize that things are filling up then don't make us wait at HRM for 45 minutes to get a shuttle to the mountain. There were hundreds of people waiting. then...lines again for the lifts....then again at lunch. Its peak lunch hour. 2 of only 3 registers opened and another long line. I know there is an investment and remodel on the way. until then please try and alleviate the waits and make things more efficient so we can actually get on the mountain. Patience. I know. read more

Mt Hood Meadows is getting two stars simply because of their snow. But for combination of elevation and terrain it wouldn't get any. Let me explain. For those that aren't very familiar with the three ski areas, there is Timberline, Ski Bowl, and Mt. Hood Meadows. Each area suffers it's problems. Timberline, while having good atmosphere and decent conditions isn't steep at all. Ski Bowl, while having GREAT terrain and GREAT atmosphere is simply too low to have consistently good snow. Meadows has the terrain and the elevation but the atmosphere feels like a yuppie mall where beers cost seven dollars and there is a 30 minute wait to sit down. Here is the deal with Meadows. They have every natural amenity they need to have an amazing resort, but absolutely everything about the way this place runs indicates they do not care about their patrons. Not even a little bit. This is what is so frustrating about this place. They have everything they need to be great but choose not to do so. Meadows will run as few lifts as possible regardless of crowds, installs pointless and stupid RFID technology in order to raise prices and cut down on the necessary employees whilst telling the patrons it improves lift lines (which it absolutely does not), and refuses to create and staff even a decent ski-lodge bar. This place has the money, this place has the snow, this place has the crowds, but this place does not care about the skiers and snowboarders. What this place cares about boys and girls is pocketing the maximum amount of every dollar spent through cutting corners, lack of atmosphere, rude managers, insufficient lifts (on weekdays which creates weekend lines), and totally absurd ticket prices that rival Whistler. I ski here because skiing here is better than not skiing, but I have had countless experiences indicating this place cares not about customer service or satisfaction but rather its own bottom line and NOTHING else. If there was another viable alternative for consistent good turns I would opt out of Meadows in a second. Ski Bowl deserves the snow and the elevation, you, Mt Hood Meadows, do not. read more

Luckily this year Meadows has had a ton of snow. In fact, I'm someone who skis every year in Utah and I had my best day of skiing/snow ever right here at Meadows on this past Christmas Day. There aren't long lift lines at Meadows. The terrain is varied and there is steep for experts in Heather Canyon and mellow but fun blue and green stuff for everyone else all over the mountain. Some lifts, like Shooting Star and the HRM lift never have lines and they have great, fun terrain and you can do laps all day long. My only complaint here is that the base lodge and rental set up sucks. They don't have their system dialed in at all. Once before I got my new ski setup I rented here and I waited 1.5 hrs in line to get my rental. Now that I have my own gear it doesn't matter, but folks renting should know that it is a real abomination in the rental area. The lodge isn't big enough to have seating for all the folks on the weekends. The floors are a slippery tile and I have seen more people bite it and get hurt on the floors in the lodge than on the mountain itself. They should invest a few million in making the lodge bigger and providing more hangout space for apre-ski. The Cascade and Vista lifts are often closed due heavy wind on that side of the ski area. Mt. Hood Meadows - Ski Resorts Near Me - Mt. Hood, Oregon

Unlike Jay S. I'm not a ski snob (though my hubby was a patrolman himself and he shares my views of this mountain). Mt. Hood Meadows is only an hour and a half from downtonw Portland, which is it's main draw. I was able to find some challenging runs (although that was really contingent on snow) and when the snow was bad, i took up snowboarding, so it didnt' matter much, since I spent that season on my ass. Mt. Hood Meadows is a cozy mountain, and it's got nice facilities--I'm a fan. read more
