Sheesh. I'm torn about this review. More like a 3 1/2 stars, I wish I could give them a 4. To start, easy to get to and super conveniently located in Big Bear Village, really close to the public parking. The inside is really clean and the decor had me smiling. One side of their wall is covered in "la lotería" art work, some trompos (spin tops) hanged from the ceiling and their vibrant colors created a chilled vibe I appreciated. Service was great, smiles, laughs and great at taking our order. We came in the morning, so I ordered chilaquiles verdes, my husband ordered the red ones and my son ordered breakfast tacos. The food all looked so good, so presentation is amazing but not the best flavors I've had. The chilaquiles were eh-ok. The best part was the scrambled eggs served in top of it. The salsa was a bit tangy. I ended adding salsa from the chips and salsa bowl to add flavor. My husband's chilaquiles were ok, he asked for a side of asada which were placed on top and that made it better. My son's tacos were ok. I could have overlooked some flaws with the food but the plates came at such different times, it was ridiculous. My son's tacos came early on so by the time he finished, they were barely bringing in my husband's chilaquiles. Mine were not brought until my husband was halfway done with his. :/ We did get refills without being asked so there's that, but one ideally wishes to eat together at the same time. We were in the area and our first choice restaurant was an hour wait for our group of 8. We got seated fairly quickly here which was nice, but they did delay a bit for our chips and salsa (bland not recommended) and to take our drink orders. After our drink order was placed, we waited about 20 more minutes before they came around with waters, 5 more for our drinks and to finally take our food order. I ordered the militas with barbacoa which was actually delicious. The michelada is okay- I come from San Diego county where I can find much better ones and save a few bucks. Overall, the location is cute and the service is okay- I wouldn't recommend for large groups. We were very disappointed. The place is well located and attractive. Ambiance was great. There was no line, like there was at other places for lunch on the 4th of July. We discovered why! Servers were nice enough when we caught them. I wound up getting up three times to get some forks from the counter, salt and pepper as well, and paper towel roll (which are the napkins) from one of the empty tables since ours ran out and no one noticed. The real problem was the food and value. Fajita salad -- she came back and said they didn't have enough chicken since it was thawing! Hmmm. Supposed to have guacamole and sour cream...but none. Even after asking it never showed up. It came with a scoop of corn and beans -- cold and clearly from a can. Asked for fried cauliflower appetizer-- big mistake. It had very thick breading, lots of heavy deep fry oil and tiny bits of cauliflower. Flautas were clearly from a frozen bag and just microwaved. The bill came and it already had 18% added. I guess they know they won't get it on merit or quality. Extremely disappointing and frankly, not worthy of Big Bear eateries. We discovered later it is apparently owned by the Bowling Barn -- which is probably the best description. Bowling Alley food. No wonder there was no line. Don't go here. read more

Very solid MID Mexican inspired food. I say Mexican inspired because it was not authentic. Ordered the steak wet burrito and both my brother and I could not eat more than one bite, it tasted like they used El Pato sauce or something from a can instead of real enchilada sauce. We've wanted to try this place forever so was super bummed with the food when we finally made it in. Firstly, we sat at the bar for a late dinner around 9pm. Service was good and they had live music that was fantastic! Unfortunately the food and drinks didn't match the rest of the experience. The michelada was really bland and overall disappointing and the Paloma was also mediocre at best. The salsa that came with the chips was loaded with a cumin flavor so it was hard to eat much of it. We ordered the frijoles but they were sold out so we opted for the bean and cheese. We assumed a bean and cheese burrito is simple enough and guaranteed to be good. Unfortunately the burrito came out with cheese not melted/cold so when you bite in you just get a mouthful of cold cheese. I don't think we'll be back based on the experience but the ambiance is cool and the service was good so 2 stars for that. read more

We were coming here for an appetizer and drinks. The place was pretty dead. My husband ran into a friend just outside the place so I went in to use the restroom before getting a seat. I was told there were public restrooms close by. I am a grown woman in a dress and heals. I did not come in just to use your restroom. I wasn't greeted nicely and I don't want to stay in a place like that. We left and spent our money at Boneyard and Oakside for appetizers and dinner. The pros: food is fresh, the server was hardworking and very personable, it's clean and in a nice location. (Based on our research, this was one of few Mexican restaurants in the area with no health violations.) Room for improvement: they were out of rice (at a Mexican place that seems lame), food is made from scratch so takes a long time to prepare, one server handling bar and entire restaurant. Anthony Michael (the server covering the entire restaurant alone) is a delight. Competent, friendly and anticipates customer issue. He's an asset to this restaurant. We ordered an enchilada plate, three tacos a La carte, and a bean and cheese burrito off the kids menu. Everything tasted healthy and super fresh. This is not a super authentic restaurant - more healthy than the tastiest ever (as parents dining with a small child that worked for us though). There are high chairs. The restaurant is bright and airy and I enjoyed the artwork. Notice the beer taps on an old ice cream cart. Super clever! The owner served us, and he definitely takes pride in his establishment. In my personal opinion, I think the margaritas were 5 stars and off the charts and the food was more of the 2 to 3 star range. We had a watermelon margarita (t-paing), a jalapeño cucumber margarita, cheese enchiladas, carne asada burrito, and a carne asada taco. The taco was street-style and fine, And my wife sent her carne asada burrito was fine. I didn't particularly love the enchilada sauce and they were small, but still a good meal. Our check was $70 before tip. I would definitely come back here for margaritas and maybe some appetizers, but not necessarily for dinner. 3.5 stars, recommended. read more

We went in for a drink and ended up having the best tacos on the mountain. The steak birria tacos were the best that I've had in a long time. They were hot, filling and the dipping sauce was perfect for a chilly evening. Top it off with a Modelo Especial and I couldn't ask for anything else. My wife had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and they were great too paired with a cucumber jalapeño margarita. Christine was our server and she was so friendly and professional. This place is criminally underrated on Yelp. I came here on a Saturday night and had a really great experience. First of all, let's talk about the drinks. The margaritas are MASSIVE and are delicious. There's several flavors to choose from, and the bartender really put a lot of artistry into it. I'm a huge michelada drinker and the michelada was also really good. As for food, I ordered the fajitas and the fajitas were very good I recommend it. Instead of just one meat you get a combo of steak and chicken. It also comes with a side of warm tortillas and Mexican rice/beans. From a pure food perspective, I would give the fajitas 4 out of 5 stars, as some of the meat was a little chewy. The environment is also great, There's a bar you can sit at or tables. We sat at the bar and in the back there was a group of people having a party so they were being a little raucous which was a pretty fun environment. Overall I give this place a 4.5, rounded up to a 5. I can't speak to the other dishes, but I give the fajitas a 4 and the drinks a 5. The reason I'm rounding up is because of the service. My food was very tasty but the problem was our party included my parents and sister so our party was 10 people, which meant it took a WHILE to get us our food. I had to ask if they were bringing chips and the waiter said they have one small fryer in the back so they were trying to alternate the nuggets/fries we ordered for my kids with the chips. We ended up getting our chips after our food. I made the asada fries nachos and they were huge and so delicious. The food is fresh and delicious! The quality and quantity exceeds the price, so 2 thumbs up for that. I love love love their guacamole!Very generous with the avocado. The restaurant is not that big, but it's just perfect, clean and well kept. The wall decor just give it a fun vibe. Tyler was just so fantastic. Customer service done right! He took great care of us. He was so inviting, knowledgeable of the menu and suggestive. I love that when dining out, especially nowadays with inflation. You want that feeling that your spending your money in the right business. Muchachos is well deserved of our business.
