Mudbug is a southern, Cajun style restaurant and food truck that offers po boy sandwiches. The food is absolutely incredible and delicious. There is plenty of indoor seating for guest as well. I give it only 4 stars for a few reasons. First, their hours are really odd. The sandwiches are big which makes them more suitable for dinner, it they only serve lunch hours. The location is pretty hidden if you don't know where it is. Additionally, the main knock I have for the restaurant is that they charge extra for water cups as well as paying by credit card. They do not have signs or warnings, so we were surprised by this when we checked the receipt. The price of water should be built into the price given that no sides are provided either. As for the payment method, we would have paid in cash if we knew about the extra charge. Overall, the food is absolutely incredible, but the way they run their business causes frustration among customers. From weird hours to nickle-and-diming, I now understand why customers don't want to come back. read more

Mudbug's is always a hit. I've not got anything from here that I didn't like. Mudbug's specializes in po' boys, but they aren't your ordinary po' boys. These are some of the most unique and tasty sandwiches that you'll ever have. They are packed so full that you can almost make another po' boy with the filling that falls out when you're eating it. Some of the best food I've ever had! The Shrimp Po' Boy is phenomenal from start to finish. We've eaten here dozens of times and have never left disappointed. You can absolutely tell that this is a labor of love for Chef Chris. He has several home-run dishes already and he's constantly coming up with new and exotic specials, but never to the detriment of his classics. The restaurant itself is very casual with a nice Cajun ambiance. Po' Boys! North of the river! Small space just opened up on Vivion next to Big Burger. Have seen a food truck outside a few times also. We got a fried shrimp and a chicken and andouille po'boys, cup of gumbo and a kids chicken fingers. All the po'boys come with crawfish sauteed in garlic butter on it too. Sandwiches were great, we preferred the shrimp over the chicken and andouille. Will try the basa next time. Gumbo was good, not too spicy but there is an assortment of hot sauces available if you want. Chicken fingers were good as well. read more

Loved it! Can't wait to go back! The food is amazing and the staff is delightful. The head chef is very involved with his customers. Comes out of the kitchen any chance he gets to interact. Definitely worth the 30 minute done for us. We discovered that the restaurant is about a block away from Penguin Park, so it makes a great family outing. I have had several friends talk about this place so my wife and I decided to give it a try. Being from NOLA I was not sure what to expect, but these unique po-boys were delicious. Chef Chris has done a great job putting his own spin on this southern staple. I had the Seahog and my wife had the shrimp po-boy and they had tons of shrimp and they were perfectly prepared. We also had a side of red beans and rice and gumbo and they were ok. (We have a very high bar for those dishes so we graded them very tough) While eating there we overheard several people saying great things about the blue crab cake po-boy and the jambalaya. Looking forward to trying them next. Everyone from the Chef to the staff was super nice and very attentive. Definitely a must try. read more

Excellent. We tried Shrimp Po'Boy, Roast Beef Po'Boy, Red Beans & Rice and Fried Okra for sides and all of it was delicious. We enjoyed that each sandwich had it's own style of dressings (polenta/slaw on the Shrimp & french fries on the Roast Beef), instead of all being the same sandwich with different meat options, though all sandwiches come with a topping of crawfish meat too. The sandwiches are stuffed and I had to bring half of mine home with me. The staff was super friendly and chatted it up with us for a little while, giving us a little history on the place and such. He also brought out small samples of their gumbo for us to try. Wow! So hearty and flavorful with Chicken and Andoullie. Nothing it too hot or spicy, just the right amount of seasonings for each dish. We'll be back again in the next 2 weeks I'm sure. Can't wait to try their seafood jambalaya next! read more

Very NOLA. Typical place that you'd see on the corner in New Orleans. Not fancy but who needs fancy when the food is great. Shrimp P Boy was delish. They stuffed the bun to the max with shrimp and crawfish with coleslaw, tomatoes, onion. Polenta, cheese etc. I was shocked at the amount of shrimp. The okra want heavy breaded and so good. I only wish I could have eaten it all. Not 5 stars due to no napkin holder in the table, no salt/pepper on the table and no water by the glass. You had to buy a bottle. We try a new place every Saturday and this was worth the 45 min drive. Very good truckish with no real dishes, plastic wear etc cutting them slack in that. Definitely a go back to place. read more

I was sooo happy to see the Mudbug truck on my way to work today, I have been wanting to try them for awhile now. I'm glad I did! I got the KC Po' Boy and it was AWESOME! It was so loaded that I could hardly take a bite! But as soon as I tasted it, I couldn't stop eating! And the fries! OMG! The fries were fantastic! I hope you guys come back towards Downtown KC because I can't wait to try another Po' Boy. The only negative thing was that there wasn't enough mudbugs on my sandwich (I got like 3 or 4), but I didn't care, the Po' Boy was good without them! We love Mudbug! I love every Po Boy I've tried (usually get shrimp but the crab cake special, omg, it was amazing), and even my super picky kids love the gumbo. I hate coleslaw with the burning passion of a thousand fiery suns but somehow, Chef Chris makes his actually taste good. Speaking of Chef Chris - he is awesome.
