I first visited Bitty & Beau's back in 2021 during a trip to South Carolina and was immediately positively overwhelmed by the mission, people, and atmosphere. Since then, I've also visited the Savannah location, so bringing my friends here felt like a non-negotiable part of our Charleston itinerary. Thankfully, they were more than happy to indulge me. While we all came for coffee, none of us actually ordered plain coffee. Instead, we opted for lattes and other specialty beverages, all of which were delicious. What surprised me most was that throughout the rest of our trip, despite visiting several other coffee shops, my friends repeatedly said Bitty & Beau's was their favorite. High praise considering Charleston has no shortage of excellent cafes! For those unfamiliar with Bitty & Beau's, the company is dedicated to employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, creating meaningful employment opportunities while fostering inclusion and acceptance. As a School Psychologist who works with students of varying abilities, this place holds a special place in my heart. The coffee is great, the merchandise is fun, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the smiles are contagious. Four years after my first visit, I'm happy to report that Bitty & Beau's remains just as magical as I remembered. The world needs more places like this. Five stars for Bitty & Beau's.
