For all I know, the cooks could've been doing a 2-hour long DIY tutorial on how to spin pizza dough in the back. After what felt like an eternity, we were promptly met with disappointment. Was it the cheese? Was it the bread? It was both. Now I've been let down in the past in many areas of my life. Business, relationships, and aspirations. But this. This was different. The cheese was all one piece. A conglomerate of mediocrity, if you will. The bread had the consistency of carpet. It was top quality cardboard. I had two slices. A pepperoni and a veggie. Both disappointed me but in individual, distinctive ways. This must've been their third attempt at pizza ever. Needless to say, I will not be returning. With so many truly spectacular pizza places in the Chicagoland area, I don't know why anyone would choose here to dine. This is the cutest Lou Malnati's location! It's got a classic rustic vibe that reminded me of dining in an old university building. Quintessential Chicago style pizza, and very good too. Ordered delivery, got the pizza in about 50 minutes. As a pizza, it's pretty good. Crust is thin and not doughy, had plenty of toppings and very good tomato sauce. As someone who grew up with apizza and New York slices, I do have a preference for the home pizza styles. but I recognize the appeal of this style of pie, and lou's is a very good pie at that. The Italian beef bites were also pretty good, the au jus really made it a great bite though. Thick gooey cheese atop rich Italian sausage with tomato sauce on top. Not as thick as Giordano's and other Deep Dish varieties - Lou doesn't overwhelm you with density, but packs a delectable bite bursting with savory flavor. Our server was attentive with a good sense of humor, showered us with refills on soft drinks and beer, while the interior was cozy, comfortably, and carelessly classic. Memorabilia and fine woodwork adorn the walls, as one might expect from a classic north-side landmark. Value, as always, is excellent for the amount of food; I had two slices and my bros three each, averaging to about $10/person, a steal for such great quality. Lou Malnatis is about as Chicago as you can be when it comes to deep dish, and this Northside location is as classic as you can get. If you're in the area, look no further! First off the ambiance hits exactly what they are aiming for so kudos there 5 stars. Everything is super old and somewhat dusty but all the tables are clean, 4 stars there. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive, 5 stars to... Kelly B I think it was. Katie B maybe? Sorry. Great job anyway. Food freshness gains 5 stars you could absolutely tell everything was fresh. Quality is hitting 4 stars I think. The crust was chewy and the Lou was in desperate need of salt. Of course I didn't realize this when the server initially asked if I would like salt or pepper but after that I realized there isn't any salt at the table. The basil is mixed in to the spinach along with garlic but these flavors seemed amiss. I asked for a side of pesto which this doesn't normally come with but our server knew how to serve so pesto I got and I am so glad I did. This is also obviously made from scratch and I loved adding it to the Lou. This brought out a fresher and stronger basil and garlic flavor. Over all taste as the dish is intended gains 3 stars. Me, my family, our friends, have been coming to this Buffalo Grove location for ages. We love the old school, rustic, wood decor pizza vibe. Food is as good as ever. The best pizza in Chicago. BUT, they just remodeled and the old party room has been converted to the main dining room. Lou, If you are reading this, please listen. It is WAY too loud back there. I think it is the echo/acoustics of that room. I don't know what it is, but it was annoying to eat in that room. I couldn't even have a conversation with the person across from me. Please do something. Add curtains, some carpet, maybe even some sound panels to dampen the sound. I cannot eat in there again. I ordered my food online, and the pickup time was listed as 9:03 PM. I arrived at 9:05 PM, checked in, and still had to wait another 5-10 minutes. I then asked how much longer it would be, and the employee told me to wait a few more minutes while she checked on my order. I understand that delays can happen, but it was frustrating because the order was marked ready for pickup at a specific time, and no one proactively updated me about the delay. The bruschetta was fresh and delicious, the combo had some great fried mozzarella, raviolis and mushrooms. The deep dish was great as expected. My only complaint was the lack of attention from the server (had to wait and then stop him to get refills on drinks). Also we were sat at a booth. We had 5 people (some of us are pretty big folks) and the booth was so tight it was uncomfortable sitting in it. They are old wood butcher block type tables and it is time to replace them. Our table was really dirty and sticky. Had to ask for a server 2x after sitting there for 20 min. Place was way too crammed. Servers setting up pizzas where they're literally hitting you on the back. Place needs a new manager ASAP. We were told that we couldn't move since some of our party already arrived. I've been a longtime customer and used to genuinely enjoy the pizzas at Lou Malnati's. But over the past few years, the quality has noticeably declined--less consistency, and significantly higher prices that have gone far beyond inflation. It seems like they used post-pandemic inflation as cover to raise prices and never rolled them back. What's more frustrating is how they've repeatedly changed the loyalty program, with little to no clear notice. Most recently, in November 2024, they quietly cut point expiration from 365 days to 180 days. I only found out when I went to redeem points for two pizzas--rewards I had rightfully earned--and was told they had expired. No prominent app alert, no direct reminder, just a vague email I missed that looked like spam. This feels like a deliberate strategy to confuse loyal customers and quietly wipe out earned rewards. That's not loyalty--that's opportunistic. I tried to resolve the issue and spoke with Alee, who was dismissive, and then her manager Kim, who showed no empathy either. For a brand that built its name on quality and community, this was a real letdown. Once known for fair prices and a great rewards program, Lou Malnati's is going too corporate and cutting corners. I can't recommend them anymore, and I sincerely hope management rethinks how they treat longtime customers. read more

Worst GF pizza I have ever had. The deep dish crust was like cement. It was either a bad dough or a total cooking mishap. I had half the ingredients of my wife's normal pizza. She said hers was over cooked . Lou's was one of my favorites before my diagnosis, of celiac disease,so extra disappointed .
