Great service and fresh sushi! It's nice to finally have a good sushi restaurant in Hayward!

I had a huge craving for sushi, and found Mujiri was local to us. We came in for an early dinner on a Saturday early evening, and were lucky to find a few tables for 2 open. The host advised us to scan the QR code to view and the menu, and the first thing you'll notice is how simple the menu is. Mujiri's specialty is clearly good sushi and sashimi as they don't have a lot else offered. My dad and I went with 2 nigiri combos and decided on Chef's Choice. The phrase "good things come to those that wait" is important to remember here, because this small but mighty team is working hard to cover all the tables and prepare your order. When we finally received our order beautifully laid out in an iced bowl, our server took the time to go through the fish from left-to-right for us. Let me tell you: the fish was so delicious! You can tell the fish is good quality because there was aggressive fishy or salt-water taste. The last piece, which was toro, was so fatty and unbelievable - it basically melted as I was eating it! This was such a wonderful gem to come across in Downtown Hayward and I am SO glad we had the chance to come in! My dad was raving about it to my mom so I'm excited for her to give it a try! A few tips: - Parking in this part of Hayward can be hard. There are a few small public parking lots in the area that are a short walk, but you may still need to rely on street parking. They have bigger public parking garages closes to the theater and city hall; however, there aren't really handicap accessible spaces very close by so plan accordingly! - Mujiri is NOT friendly for big parties. I would encourage you to keep it to 2 or 3 people MAX. Otherwise the wait will be lengthy, if they're able to accommodate at all! read more

Omg, had the everything on the menu here. The fish quality is obviously amazing. You're definitely paying for quality. The uni here is so fresh along with the ikura. They have a 1 hour time limit. They are busy even from online orders so be ready. Highly recommend. I thought I had a favorite sushi place and I still do in Fremont but this is the true hidden gem.i got their premium omakase, a duck appetizer, and every other nigiri that wasn't on the omakase and an extra order of uni and ikura. Worth it! Must get scallop. Only complaint. I do believe they need real wasabi. read more

I am so excited and glad that they opened a location in Hayward--closer, accessible, and calmer. 7 nigiri + maki roll for $25-offering simple, fresh selections. What's more to note is their a La carte pricing is miraculously reasonable: white fish selections like kurodai for ~$7/2piece; hotate $7/2 piece. No fishiness, no bad uni, no cold fish served. Sushi rice cooked firm on the edge of al dente. Simple marination, the real deal. Great sake selections. No pretentious vibes. read more

Feel like we've tried so many sushi spots here in the Bay. From all price ranges. Yes, have also had sushi in Japan. So surprised there's a spot like this in Hayward, but this place is great. Tried a handful of things since it was our first time. Most amazing Arctic Char & the also salmon was sweet! Prices are also really good for the quality. No frills, cozy place. 10/10. Order online and choose your time. It's literally in downtown Hayward which is so convenient for me. Don't get scared it may look closed but it's not! I thought it was closed but when i looked inside, the chef was still there thank god. We got the nigiri combo and we got to choose what we wanted, you can't double a nigiri which sucked but i loved every single one i ate. I would def come again. Can't go wrong with the nigiri combo. It's the best sushi spot in Hayward, we usually only pick up for to go. I'm curious about the eating in experience, but honestly it's so nicely packed that it's a good takeout experience. Plus I eat this thing so quickly that it doesn't feel worth eating in for lol. I probably got used to takeout since it didn't offer service until fairly recently. Maybe I would eat in if they had more options (like special rolls). The spot is also small, so I'm not sure how many people can fit in there. read more

The sushi here is truly the best. It's very fresh. I don't believe I've been to another sushi place in the bay with the same quality. It's that good! Food: Got the $25 nigiri combo and also got an extra kinmedai nigiri. Toro is usually my favorite and bc everything was so good, that actually ended up being lower on my list of favorites of the day. Fish was fresh and rice was well seasoned. Every bite was delicious. Got the hamachi, sake, iwana, umi masu, kanpachi, kurodai, and toro for the nigiri selection. Service: quick and attentive. Tea was refilled regularly and didn't wait long to place our order. Ambiance: small and intimate but in no way takes away from the experience. I enjoyed the sushi. The fish is fresh here but a bit pricey (you pay for what you get). The host/waiter was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is on the smaller side (might be able to seat 15-20 people including the bar) so reservations are recommended. We showed up on Saturday afternoon and parked across the street (no parking lot). We got lucky and sat down right away. We ordered the Nigiri combo (chef's choice), Toro nigiri and Clay Pot sushi rice with fish (forgot the actual name). The wait for the rice was 15-20 minutes (worth it). I've been here twice -- once with a friend for a weekday lunch and once for a solo dinner date. Both times, the food (and vibes) were FANTASTIC. Both times I came, I ordered the Nigiri Combo, which included the Salmon Shiso Hosomaki, and a Negi Hama Hosomaki. My friend and I also tried their Toro Trio (which is phenomenal )! Review is for takeout. I've ordered nigiri here about four times and each time it's been excellent. Ordered lunch here the first time trying and wound up coming back that night for more. I get a nigiri set(s) each time and very happy you can try some different type of fish like barracuda. Ordering is very easy on their site and it's been on time each time. I've been a big fan of the original location in Oakland and was so excited to hear they opened a second location in Hayward! It's a cozy space so not ideal for large groups. Service is very nice and friendly but just a tad slow sometimes. It took us a little while to get our order. Fish quality was amazing though. So fresh and buttery and tasty. I did feel like the portions are a tad smaller than the Oakland location but that doesn't take away the fact that it's still amazing quality sushi for an affordable price. read more

This spot is a gem in Hayward!! Came in with a friend and with a reservation, was seated right away. The space is small so you need to come with patience. The service was amazing. We were greeted when we came in and our server was attentive. The ambiance was nice great for either a date night or just hanging with friends. The music had us singing along and having our own little party. We ordered a cocktail and the Nigiri combo each. The drinks were tasty and so was the food!! The fish was so fresh and full of flavor. One of them had this Smokey flavor that just is unforgettable!! The place closes at 9pm but they staff just let us sit there and jam with them as they cleaned up! It was a whole vibe. I have been wanting to try this place since the summer and finally jumped on the chance to go for a Valentine's Day lunch! We dropped in at lunch time and was able to get 2 spots at the sushi bar. We ordered the sashimi combo, nigiri combo, and sushi rice. The nigiri was perfectly seasoned and amazing. As their menu instructed, there was no need to use any soy sauce as the flavor was perfect as it was served. All the sashimi was so fresh and the chef selected a great assortment. Mujiri's Oakland location has been on my to-go list after hearing about their top quality sushi at affordable prices. It flies most of its seafood from Japan, but depending on availability, it can come from New Zealand, Canada, Australia and Spain. After reading about Mujiri opening a second location this past Tuesday on Main St in Downtown Hayward, I made an effort to get sushi for dinner tonight. This location is take-out only and you can place your order online. The menu is similar to the Oakland location with a sashimi and a nigiri combo, a la carte maki and nigiri. I tried placing my order online but there was glitch on their website as items were listed at Out of Stock. I called and Danny answered and he was unaware of the issue and told me to place my order with him and to come in for pickup and pay. We arrived at 6pm for our 6:15 pickup and Danny was the sushi chef making our order and Jen was the cashier. They were friendly and we talked about the website issue, which Jen fixed, and about this new location, which was a former pizza joint. We ordered two nigiri combos at $25 each. It consists of 7 pieces of non-repeated nigiris from 10 choices plus 4 with surcharges and a chef choice maki. The order is nicely presented in a nice wooden box. Our orders had Maguro, Hamachi, Salmon, Iwana, Umi Masu, Toro and one had Ika and the other Hotate. The chef's choice maki was a hamachi roll. The nigiris had a nice cut of fish and they were very fresh. The sushi rice ball has a brown hue and it was tasty from the tamari and vinegar seasoning. Now I know what the rave was about Mujiri. So glad you opened this new location and I will be back when I have a sushi craving. read more

I really don't get the hype about this place. The sushi option is limited, extremely overpriced and the quality is just about subpar. Tell me why I ordered 3 items for Togo here and my bill came out to about $100? At this rate, I can just go treat myself to an omakase dinner! The customer service here was not bad, but also not good. The restaurant is very quaint and lacks a parking lot. Since it's in the corner of downtown Hayward, you'd have to walk to and from or be lucky enough to find street parking & be good at parallel parking. Overall, for the price and sushi quality -- I am glad I tried it but would not be coming back. Was really excited to try this place out but was severely disappointed. For $25 the sushi was just okay. I liked that you could make a selection for the nigiri but the fish did not taste fresh for me. For context I ordered online and arrived early so I know my order wasn't sitting around for a long time. Since it's take out only I drove less than 5 minutes before eating it and it tasted almost dry? I've had better quality nigiri/raw fish from other establishments and for a better price as well. Don't know if I caught them on an off day but it was not an enjoyable meal for me. Also gave me an upset stomach after.
