Came here last week on a Tuesday for dinner with a party of 2. I've been to the Oakland location before and gave it 5 stars, so I was excited to try this new location. I ordered the nigiri combo (I did the self-selection with salmon, kurodai, kanpachi, hamachi, toro, hotate, and iwana, but my friend did the chef's choice - both are great choices depending on what you prefer). The nigiri combo comes with the daily maki - our day was hamachi) We also shared an additional toro maki (I'm not sure if this is always on the menu - their makis seem to change?) Pros: - Surprisingly not crowded on a weeknight! I know the Oakland location is always very crowded even on weekdays, so a reservation is usually helpful and they don't let you sit down for long. But thankfully that's NOT a problem here in Hayward! - The sushi was SUPER FRESH and delicious - I think that it's reasonably priced considering you're getting nigiri-grade sushi, $25 for the nigiri combo is pretty good. Take note though that the maki is small bites. Surprisingly though I didn't leave hungry (but my husband, a larger white man, likely would leave hungry haha so order a bit more!) - I appreciate that the menu is pretty limited, I think it allows them to do everything quite well - The service was pretty fast and very kind, the QR code menu is easy to use. - Easy parking - there's a lot across the street so you don't necessarily have to do street parking if you don't want to. - Great for a party of 2, lots of 2 person tables despite the shop being kind of small. - I don't remember the food coming out super quickly, but I don't think I waited long either - since there's only a couple chefs working I would say it was pretty timely. Cons: - the corner spot by the window can get kind of hot if it's sunny out, it didn't feel like there was a lot of air circulation - Almost a little TOO quiet if there's only a couple parties - so I didn't feel too comfortable like laughing super loud with my friend haha. I kind of wish there was some light music playing in the background - There was unfortunately a tad too much wasabi in each piece of my nigiri combo - I usually like a hint of wasabi but there was so much it kinda made me need to swig some water after each bite. I 'm going to chop this up to being a one time error hopefully? I felt like it almost overwhelmed the fish Overall, the fish was super fresh even if it was a bit heavy on the wasabi. I had a huge craving for sushi, and found Mujiri was local to us. We came in for an early dinner on a Saturday early evening, and were lucky to find a few tables for 2 open. The host advised us to scan the QR code to view and the menu, and the first thing you'll notice is how simple the menu is. Mujiri's specialty is clearly good sushi and sashimi as they don't have a lot else offered. My dad and I went with 2 nigiri combos and decided on Chef's Choice. The phrase "good things come to those that wait" is important to remember here, because this small but mighty team is working hard to cover all the tables and prepare your order. When we finally received our order beautifully laid out in an iced bowl, our server took the time to go through the fish from left-to-right for us. Let me tell you: the fish was so delicious! You can tell the fish is good quality because there was aggressive fishy or salt-water taste. The last piece, which was toro, was so fatty and unbelievable - it basically melted as I was eating it! This was such a wonderful gem to come across in Downtown Hayward and I am SO glad we had the chance to come in! My dad was raving about it to my mom so I'm excited for her to give it a try! A few tips: - Parking in this part of Hayward can be hard. There are a few small public parking lots in the area that are a short walk, but you may still need to rely on street parking. They have bigger public parking garages closes to the theater and city hall; however, there aren't really handicap accessible spaces very close by so plan accordingly! - Mujiri is NOT friendly for big parties. Wow! We were looking for a sushi place in the area and found Mujiri on Yelp not expecting to find a new favorite sushi spot in the Bay Area. We love that they pretty much only had nigiri sushi (and no California type of sushi) on the menu, which also means their stars are for their sushi (and not other types of food). I don't get uni often because I don't like it when it isn't sweet, but they had Santa Barbara uni, and it didn't disappoint. We were surprised to see that they were using red vinegar, something not often found in the Bay Area. I like red vinegar because it has a more subtle tang to it. The spot was also pretty intimate with just a bar and a few tables. We were able to walk in and sit at the bar at 6:10 on a Saturday. I feel like I rarely give 5 stars in the Bay Area. Can't go wrong with the nigiri combo. It's the best sushi spot in Hayward, we usually only pick up for to go. I'm curious about the eating in experience, but honestly it's so nicely packed that it's a good takeout experience. Plus I eat this thing so quickly that it doesn't feel worth eating in for lol. I have been wanting to try this place since the summer and finally jumped on the chance to go for a Valentine's Day lunch! We dropped in at lunch time and was able to get 2 spots at the sushi bar. We ordered the sashimi combo, nigiri combo, and sushi rice. The nigiri was perfectly seasoned and amazing. It flies most of its seafood from Japan, but depending on availability, it can come from New Zealand, Canada, Australia and Spain. After reading about Mujiri opening a second location this past Tuesday on Main St in Downtown Hayward, I made an effort to get sushi for dinner tonight. This location is take-out only and you can place your order online. The menu is similar to the Oakland location with a sashimi and a nigiri combo, a la carte maki and nigiri. I tried placing my order online but there was glitch on their website as items were listed at Out of Stock. I called and Danny answered and he was unaware of the issue and told me to place my order with him and to come in for pickup and pay. We arrived at 6pm for our 6:15 pickup and Danny was the sushi chef making our order and Jen was the cashier. They were friendly and we talked about the website issue, which Jen fixed, and about this new location, which was a former pizza joint. We ordered two nigiri combos at $25 each. It consists of 7 pieces of non-repeated nigiris from 10 choices plus 4 with surcharges and a chef choice maki. The order is nicely presented in a nice wooden box. Our orders had Maguro, Hamachi, Salmon, Iwana, Umi Masu, Toro and one had Ika and the other Hotate. The chef's choice maki was a hamachi roll. The nigiris had a nice cut of fish and they were very fresh. The sushi rice ball has a brown hue and it was tasty from the tamari and vinegar seasoning. Now I know what the rave was about Mujiri.
