It wasn't too crowded on a recent Saturday evening when we stopped in for dinner. I've heard that Friday nights for the fish fry can be absolutely jammed. Perhaps it was less busy being the end of the holiday week... We did have to wait 20 minutes or so for a table though it appeared some tables were empty, hmmm? Once seated our waitress was very efficient getting us our food and drinks. The menu is pretty big with both typical tavern fare and some real Irish specialties. We both ordered the beef on weck - it was a solid sandwich. The roll was excellent - is it from Fairport's Amazing Grains??? The onion rings were good for being breaded, though I prefer beer battered. And the fries were huge. Overall a good choice in Fairport. read more

This must be the hot spot for happy hour as it was packed! While being busy, we were still served fairly quickly and everyone around us seemed to enjoy the friendly and inviting atmosphere. There were about 10 beers on tap and we went local supporting lock 32 tasting their extra pale ale. It was dangerously good! We followed up a few pints with the chicken quesadillas filled to the brim with caramelized onions, peppers and a generous portion of mixed cheeses that would make any cheese lover blissful! Salsa and sour cream were served along side for extra tastiness! I must say that I'll have to try the fish fry next time as it was enormous! The portion could definitely be happily shared. My family came in for a fish fry dinner the other night. My niece is 29 years old and was asked for ID when we were ordering drinks. She provided her Massachusetts license and was denied service because of her out of state license. After mildly protesting to no avail, we decided to bring our business elsewhere. Apparently they have a company policy to not serve out of state licensed patrons. Where in the world is this acceptable? This calls into question the management and how they operate. read more

Came here for drinks, ordered a Moscow mule and it tasted like straight ginger beer and no alcohol. Proceeded to order two DOUBLE vodka sodas for 11 dollars a piece for them to still have little to no alcohol. Definitely will not be back. read more

we came in when it wasn't even busy and there were two people at the host stand. i asked to sit outside and they said no and then i said inside was fine and one of them told me it would be a 5 min wait and the other one said 15. i asked again and they couldn't agree on the wait time. when we said we would wait we were told to "go stand over there" in really rude way, we just walked out. read more

I have some friends who live in Fairport and went to dinner with one them last Thursday night here. (Her choice, it was my first time in Fairport) I was totally impressed. The interior is huge, has a nice sized dining room, a lengthy bar and a stage. It looks like somewhere really cool to spend time in the summer, especially with the rooftop patio. It's right by the very scenic Erie Canal and I can imagine how wonderful the entire area is when it's not covered in snow. The staff was awesome and attentive and quick. Because of St. Patrick's Day being the next day, the restaurant had a special that night of a Reuben Sandwich complete with corned beef, and man was it GOOD. I'm not really a sauerkraut boy, but I was that night. The entire thing was cooked completely and came with 1000 Islands dressing for dipping. We also ordered some poutine tots, which we amazing, and my friend got the Shepard's Pie, which was very tasty and I don't even really like Shepard's Pie. The beer list is super great, and I can't wait to go back when the weather is more agreeable. Very Irish and I'm appreciative of that. read more

Went here on a suggestion from an older colleague looking for genuine Irish food for St. Patrick's Day. They were busy, but managed to seat us right away. The waitress (I believe her name was Sam) was super super friendly to my wife and daughter, and went the extra mile for us. If it weren't for her, the rating would be maybe 1.5. The food...was mediocre. I had a fish fry, but for some reason it was two small pieces for $15. Not only was it overpriced, but it was tasteless. The French fries that it came with were pretty good. My better half had corned beef and cabbage, and she too thought her dish was tasteless. The Bavarian pretzels that we had for an appetizer were very good. Only three for $8. Overall, the food was overpriced in relation to the portions and taste. For a $50 meal from a bar, I'd expect to be bringing some food home, but that wasn't the case. read more

Rating is for brunch which started 6/9. This should be 3.5 stars but you can't do that. Wife had chicken and waffles and I had the Irish Monte Cristo. She found the tarragon cream unnecessary and it rendered the waffle a little soggy. The chicken was well prepared - beer battered. My Monte Cristo was excellent. This was my second visit to Mulconry's Irish Pub as I don't visit Rochester all that often. My first visit was great, so I was looking forward to giving it another try and introducing my co-workers to it. We arrived for a late lunch so they seemed to be understaffed. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer and the waitress warned us that they were different, she did warn us that they were monstrously sized. While I liked the flavor, my co-workers did not so they went largely uneaten. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad for my meal and it was good if not great. The salad itself was largely unremarkable and the chicken was just ok. Given how fantastic this place was on my first trip, it was disappointed to find my next experience to be less so. I've got to update my review because I've been here far too many times to let my last one stand. Mulconrys is a great pub. On my first few visits I wasn't enamored by the food, particularly the boxtys. However, I've been to Mulconrys multiple since and have been quite impressed by the food. The Guinness here is fantastic. It's fresh and it's poured WELL. People call me crazy, but the rate at which that Guinness hits the side of that 20oz pint glass and the nitrogen bubbles rush down and then up...well, it matters. At this pub, the Guinness is often poured by Irish ex pats and they know just how to finish off the head with a "pride of the rim" (that beautiful mound of froth that, because of static energy, clings precariously to the rim without overflowing immediately). The shepherds pie is a beauty here. Yes, it's covered with cheddar - which isn't very much traditional - but it's a wonderful hearty serving and tastes delicious. The fish and chips are also great. Slippery slimy white fish covered in crispy beer batter. It's a loving rendition. The full Irish breakfast is a must-try. I don't think another place in Rochester serves a full Irish ALL THE TIME. It's complete wih black puddings and real Irish bangers...sigh. Speaking of bangers, the sausage rolls is another dish that tugs on my heart strings. Salty, juicy Irish pork bangers covered in buttery puffed pastry and baked until golden brown. A favorite snack of mine as a child, this is the only place in Rochester that I know with this on the menu. I hope to God it's never taken away! If note, the service at Mulconrys can be very very good if you get the right person. One of the bartenders in particular - Joe - is an absolute delight. He's chatty and funny without being intrusive and keeps us entertained and cheery. Always in a good mood, he remembers his customers faces and their likes and dislikes. You can't ask for more than this! Finally, this pub shows English Premier League Football. I can head there on the weekends and my team will actually be on the television and the employees will actually know what I'm talking about when I bash Man City, Man United and Tottenham. This pub has all the makings of greatness. Bear in mind, I'm usually only there on weekend days. I've been there at night before when it's packed and the food isn't so great and the whole experience doesn't come together the way it does during the day. But if you're out in Fairport along the canal one day, head here for a Guinness. It's bound to make your leisurely day even better! read more

The pretzel appetizer is excellent. You get three sticks. The cheese sauce is delicious as well. The mustard that comes with them is a little sweet. It was ok but prefer yellow mustard. Usually I get the fish and chips which is cook well and tasty. This time I decided to try the corned beef and cabbage. It was very tender. Though it was extremely salty. I would have loved it if it weren't for that. I have noticed that the kitchen seems to have a heavy hand with the salt. Getting that under control would make the food better. Their fries are good but again salty. I don't mind if you salt but it should be light so that the person eating can then make decision to add additional. It's a turn off to those of us that don't load up on the salt. read more

My friend and I stumbled across this pub this afternoon (after learning the Fairport Canal Days festival did not serve food until later in the evening) in search of a late lunch where we could hide in the AC after walking the canalside. There were a lot of tempting menu items but I opted for the chicken pesto sandwich, in wrap form (all their sandwiches can also be made wraps) with a side of tots- because when tots are an option, we get tots. My partner in crime ordered the shepherd's pie potato skins(!!!!). Our food was presented well, I especially liked the little fry basket the tots came in. And everything I had was delicious!!! Down to the pickles on the side, mmm. My friend was a little less pleased with her potato skins, as she felt there was a hefty proportion of meat and not so much actual potato to them. But the portions were generous which is always appreciated. The service was kind of slow for it being so dead, as we were there at an awkward in-between time. We had to ask for drink refills because the waitress never came back around after we ordered. But aside from that a good experience, and I'd go back for some more food and maybe a beer next time! read more

I chose this place for a casual pre-holiday lunch with some extended family members and I am so happy I did! First off, Mulconry's is perfect for winter due to their cozy Irish theme - old school pub feel, warm fire in the fireplace on the sit-down side, and holiday decorations to complement it all! I was excited to have some traditional Irish comfort food (I ordered the corned beef and cabbage) but I was blown away when the food came and the portions were humongous! Any entree I saw was easily big enough for 2 meals. The corned beef was so tender and delicious and the side of mashed potatoes were the perfect level of buttery sauce and creamy to balance out the dish. I enjoyed this place way more than other local Irish pubs so I will definitely be heading back to satisfy my future cravings! read more

This is one of our favorite hangouts in the village of Fairport. The food is good and the ambiance of the dining room with the fireplace is excellent, especially in the fall and winter. The servers sometimes seem rushed and that can come off as unfriendly, but it appears to just be how the restaurant is run. I don't take it personal. There is a nice rooftop deck that we like to frequent for drinks on a nice night. Live music is common on a weekend nights, making it a good place for a fun night out. read more

The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because the portion sizes are substantial. The food is mediocre; the sweet potato fries were mushy, the aioli on the crab cake sandwich was to acidic and the Cuban sandwich could def have been passed on. The chicken quesadilla was ok. Stopped in Sunday with my friend after taking the Colonial Belle tour on the Erie Canal, place was 1/2 empty but the bar was jamming & loud. Seated right away, drink orders right away, server was pleasant, and nice. Food came it was delicious, just not much of it, Our appetizer of pretzel sticks for $7.00 was 3 sticks, sandwiches were small and not many fries, and the total was $47.00 which I thought was high for an appetizer, 2 sandwiches, a water, and a soda. The menu is different though, and the food is good, so torn, would go back, but just probably look for better value for the buck. read more

Yesterday, I married the man of my dreams and we celebrated in the upstairs party room of Mulconry's after. The staff went out of their way to make our special day PERFECT. I cannot express in words how amazing it was. From their party coordinator Stephanie, to Audry, Nikki, the bussers, the chefs.... our minds are just blown at the quality of service we received. Stephanie was a godsend. She did an amazing job at setting up the party room perfectly. I literally cannot thank her enough for just being absolutely fabulous and helpful. This girl seriously nailed it. Audrey and Nikki behind the bar were fantastic. My family and friends are raving about you two!!! They loved you! Thank you Audrey for all the help with making sure the reception flowed smoothly. Thank you Nikki for just being so awesome and getting our music onto the sound system!! Could not believe you took all that time to do so!! You saved the day!! We had a blast singing and dancing at the end of the night. The food was out of this world. I had quite a few guests let me know how great it was! Our uncle Steve, who has worked weddings for 30 years said it was the best food he's ever had at a wedding! I actually just ate some leftover chicken french for dinner, and I probably will be having it every night this week, and I am not even mad about that. Phenomenal guys, seriously. My husband and I are just so happy we chose to party with you guys! We love coming in for lunch or dinner as well, but this was just an out of this world experience, and I would recommend you to anyone who is looking to throw any type of party. Mulconry's is hit or miss. Some nights it has a great crowd, energetic staff, fun music. Other nights the crowd is loud and rude which turns the staff into not-so-happy employees (easily understood). Luckily they always have delicious food. So I'll review on the food only...which earns 5 stars! Leaving 2-stars for the bar/music area nets us 3.5. I have ordered burgers, the reuben and the rachel, bangers and mash, shepherd's pie boxty and much more from here. All SO good! The tater tots are perfectly cooked and crunchy every.single.time. One of my favorites in the village! Always nice to go and run into friends but I aim for the earlier hours of the night so not to run into any negative crowd. read more

Starting with the over-served guy in the bar who put a sailors mouth to shame and we couldn't hear each other his drunken nonsense and incessant cursing. Then the flat drinks, dry and overcooked appetizers, undercooked fish and overcooked freezer patties on the "burger". We won't ever go back. The fact that it wasn't busy in the dining room at 5:00 on a Friday when the neighboring bar/restaurant has a line of cars out front just says it all. Even during the current times, there is nothing here that required tolerance due to pandemic restrictions. The waitress never checked until we were done. I showed up around 11 pm to meet a few friends. They had been there enjoying their drinks and I didn't feel like beer yet so I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. It was okay, but not what I expected to taste. The bartender was nice enough to top it off with coke for me. Then in 30 minutes or so, I had another. this time I watched. She poured well vodka out of a bottle without a pourer, then 2 other well liquors with pourers. I pretty much got the same drink again, but she changed the price. When I looked in my wallet, I had only $7. I paid with a $20 the first time and left a $1 tip, I guess I should have looked at my change closerr. I had to use my credit card because she charged $8 for the second LIT. Overall, it wasn't horrible, but management seems pretty lacking there, no one watching their staff. This was the most disgusting display of service I have ever experienced. The hostess told us to go in and find a high top table, when there were none we stood there awkwardly. The hostess approached us and told us there were high tops upstairs and to choose one inside. I clarified "So we just go up and we can come down and grab a drink right?" And she said yes. We decided to go down 2 at a time. When two of my friends went down to get drinks (we were trying not to bring a bunch of people down) they were yelled at by the bartender and she told us to stop walking around and she needed to see all of our IDs. We waited upstairs because we were told not to walk around... she stormed up the stairs saying "Its time to go you need to leave". We asked when was wrong and she said she had asked to see our IDs and that we can't sit in here without masks (mind you not a soul in the whole place had a mask on AND we were told we didn't have to wear a mask at the table). I asked her politely to come talk to me as she was standing across the room disturbing everyone else, and she yelled "WHAT! NO". Then when I tried to explain we were doing exactly as we were told, she said "no". I was appalled by this. We felt embarrassed as we are all 22 and obviously not respected in bar situations per usual...We overheard her say to everyone in the bar "They probably wouldn't have tipped anyway" and all of the workers watched us walk out. We have all come to this place with family and friends and we have never been treated so poorly. We left completely confused and frustrated. The woman would not even calm down and talk to me. I have never been kicked out of a bar let alone for simply doing as I'm told. I highly do not recommend buying a drink from that horrible woman. She could have at least heard us out. Plus we all tip. Glad to see that Hope updated her review to say that she liked the food. The decor is unprentious since they fixed it up several years back. Early American Golf Course grill I'd call it. A lot of varnished wood The patio out front is great in the summer though the seating is limited. There's hardly any traffic on Liftbridge (they' face Liftbridge Lane, not Water St. ) so it's quiet as compared to many outdoor seatings. The fireplace in the dining room is a nice touch in the wintertime. If you sit against the wall that has the bar on the other side, it's quieter in the restaurant during busy times. The bar can just get a bit noisy particularly when they're showing Irish/English football on the TVs in the bar. The black and tan onion rings are always a good appetizer. They go so well with a Guinness that you have to try them. There's something about the sweetness of a good Guinness draft that is hard to beat when put with sweet fried foods like the onion rings. I almost always get a Reuben or a Fish Fry. Both have never disappointed me. My wife loves to try their Boxty's. Not my cup of tea but she loves the stuffed Irish pancakes. It just reminds me of the times when the Irish had to eat those darn things because there were too many potatoes around. The bangers and mash are more my cup of tea (see, I've worked tea into this review twice) and they don't disappoint here. Juicy and tasty. In my opinion, much better than Donnelly's down the street and a world above Blue Cactus at the other end of the street. A great place to enjoy the summer after a walk on the canal. Mulconry 's has all the charm and friendliness that it could have. The music is great mostly, rock ,blue grass and country. The drinks are affordable and all the bartenders walk up to you welcome you and shake your hand. This is how any club should,be . The GM, blonde hair lady very very friendly ,she introduced herself and made me feel like I was something special. The other bartenders went out of their to make me feel welcomed, the young tall guy wearing baseball hat nice sincere man. The dark hair girl friendly too .
