Love Mulehouse Cafe. Located at Red's Meadow Resort in Mammoth, this is just a great little cafe. If you are camping down in Red's Meadow it is easy to get to. If you are taking the mandatory shuttle in, you jump on for $7.00 per person, take the shuttle to the end of the road and you will find yourself at this little treaure. After a nice breakfast, hike to Rainbow Falls or Devil's Postpile. Every year we are in Mammoth, the trip is not the same unless we go have breakfast at Mulehouse. The cafe opens at 7 a.m. and once inside you are transported to a different era. This is old time with a lot of history about the Tanner family and the area. You seat yourself if the place isn't packed and the service is friendly with a smile as if you have sat down with family. The food is traditional all american and great. This last trip, I ordered oatmeal and our server asked how I would like it cooked, did I like it thicker or on the thinner side and what would I like it served with, brown sugar, honey, raisins or nuts. Mr. B had the eggs, hashbrowns, bacon combo and the other Mr. B had eggs and pancakes. The pancakes are flaky, moist and buttery. They cover the entire plate, so bring our appetite. Early in the morning when the sun is just coming up, you can smell campfires from the campground and cabins, backpackers are enjoying a nice hot breakfast before heading into the back country and the honest to goodness cowboys are having a nice cup of coffee before heading out on a pack trip. The atmosphere is great, scenery is amazing and the breakfast just tastes so much better in this little cafe.

No frills old school American diner, and a fun spot to eat. Nothing fancy, but a perfect place to stop for lunch when out exploring.

Great service and yummy food after multiple days on the trail. No idea what others' issues are.

We went to Mulehouse after a long tiring hike from Devils Postpile, to Rainbow Falls and back, having not eaten lunch and starving.

Stopped by to get our brewery map stamped. Tried some food…read more& it was all great! The beet salad is fantastic The nachos are good with their own twist - my husband loved his carne asada taco. Their hazy ipa is also delicious Fun sitting in the village watching people. Service was nice & they are dog friendly on their patio !

The name Shelter evokes a warm, welcoming space. You've come home. Well, change your expectations…read morehere. It's the least personal space besides Taco Bell that I've been to. Like Taco Bell, you pay in advance. Unlike Taco Bell, you are expected to leave a tip (for service), before you realize you will receive no service. Choose your own seating, call up the QR code (which asks you to enter your phone number, but you can work around that) and then gives you a sterile list for a menu. It's a distillery, but do not talk to the bartender. Order a margarita from the (surprisingly inexpensive) Taco Tuesday menu and it comes with a hard, dried citrus something floating on top that adds nothing to the experience of the drink (but does eliminate the need for the bartender to keep a fresh supply of citrus on hand). Otherwise, the margarita tastes OK. Not great. Your beet salad will not be "dressed" because that would take effort. Instead the dressing will be drizzled across the top and not even really touch the greens. Your burger will probably be tasty, as my husband's was. Your sweet potato taco will probably have too many raw onions across the top but otherwise be tasty as mine was. You will not interact with anyone other than your table companions. Even with his tasty burger, my husband called it a "soulless experience." Because the food itself seems to be decently cooked (though with minimal effort), this may be your spot if you are good with Taco Bell.
