To be honest I've been stuck in mammoth for four days because my truck broke down. I'm staying right across the street at the motel 6. I was wrenching a bolt while laying on my back and the wrench slipped and smacked me in the face. I was having a full blown crash out. I stood up and saw John's pizza works across the street and I knew I needed a beer. I walked in and was greeted by Nyesia. Nyesia deserves a raise, a trophy, and probably her own holiday. Food was decent, service was some of the worst I may have ever seen. I politely asked 4 different employees over an hour and a half to switch 1 of their many tvs to the USC game, they all said they'd do it without any pushback... then it would never happen! Never seen this in my life in a pizza parlor, place wasn't too busy either. The coin machine didn't work for the games, our kids had to ask staff to help which took 10 minutes to get someone there. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. Our order was almost 2 hours late from the time of order, and we were repeatedly told, "10 more minutes," then "5 more minutes," then "it's coming out now," only for nothing to happen. What made the experience worse was the lack of honesty and customer service. We were told the oven was broken, yet pizzas were continuously coming out for other customers. Later, we were told the order had already been printed, only to find out our pizza hadn't even been started nearly two hours after we placed the order. The gentleman who appeared to be in charge came out with a dismissive attitude and wasn't apologetic at all. Instead of acknowledging the delay or offering a sincere apology, he simply said, "It's not anyone's fault." Do you want a refund? A little honesty and common courtesy would have gone a long way. If there was a problem, just be upfront about it instead of giving repeated excuses and inaccurate wait times. Unfortunately, the poor communication and lack of accountability made this a very frustrating experience. I hope management takes customer service more seriously in the future. read more

We've been coming to John's for a long time. I remember sitting in here and watching Michael Vick get arrested on one of the TVs in here. John's has become a must every time we take a trip up to mammoth over the last 20+ years. It's nothing amazing but it is solid and consistent and something we look forward to every trip. We came up in June, July, August, & September and ate here or got takeout here all 4 times. Service is fine. Sometimes they've been short staffed which is understandable. Although we always sit outside, the inside of John's is very nice. Plenty of parking outside. Two things I don't love, the 5% packaging fee seems like a shake down, and my wife and I each had explosive diarrhea this last trip. We normally visit our last night before we leave, and that was a mistake this last visit. Driving home with mud butt was not the business. As always though, we will be back. read more

Our first impression was the friendly phone call we made to check if they had a patio and if they were pet-friendly--and guess what? They said, "Yes!" Whoop! When we walked in, we were quickly directed to the patio, just as we had requested. Our server, Ben, was so pleasant and had a great sense of humor. We started with some fried pickles , which were yum, and onions rings that were excellent, thin, fried, and crispy, of course! We had to try the garlic bread , which was tasty and toasty and a must-try appetizer. John Pizza was definitely a must, so we ordered a couple of pizzas to share. The crust was delicious and perfectly balanced with the toppings, and the cheese was just right, not too much. I highly suggest it as well. Overpriced with multiple add on fees. If you use cash they round up and if you use card you have a surcharge fee. I paid $28.95 for a medium build your own pizza with pepperoni and pineapple. I'd compare the pizza to a frozen section pizza found at your local grocery store. I will be making my own pizza when I visit Mammoth. Besides the food, the restaraunt itself was extremely clean and organized and it's connected to a busy and lively saloon. The gentleman at the front register was very welcoming and informative which is why I'm giving 3 stars. I am a pizza snob so that's why I am grading harshly the pizza. The restaurant itself is nice. First and foremost I'd like to say THANK YOU to the kind person who left the review regarding my family's experience of being humiliated by our very very rude server who KICKED OUR FAMILY OUT AND TOLD US TO NEVER COME BACK on Saturday August 8, 2026. I was debating on leaving a review because i honestly didn't think anyone would believe me or even care, it seems like the servers and bar tenders are all a bunch of bullies that talk about their customers because of tipping. It's been a week and I'm still in shock of how we were treated. My parents, and siblings (5 of us total) stopped at John's Pizza as we always do on our last day in Mammoth. Once we were sat we waited 15 minutes for our server to take our drink order, when we told her we were ready to order food she told us we had to wait because she was under staffed, we understood and said ok, we just ordered waters and asked for straws because my little sister is special needs and needed it for her drink, after waiting another 15 minutes I went to the Bar and asked for some straws and he told me to wait for my server, after waiting another 10 minutes we just asked the bus boy to grab them for us. Once the server came to our table to take our order I told her that she had forgotten our straws and now she YELLS at us and tells us I TOLD YOU WE WERE UNDER STAFFED, 3 OF MY SERVERS DID NOT COME IN TODAY. We were surprised to get yelled at but continued to put in our order one medium pizza and a pasta dish. She never brought out food (another server did) she never brought the ranch we asked for (the bus boy did) it was a long night of being ignored and terrible service. When our server brought our tab we noticed what she said is a MANDATORY $12 tip, I asked the bus boy if I could speak with the manager and the same server came to our table and said she was the manager and the owner, when we told her that she KNOWS she did not deserve such a large tip, she yelled at us and said it was mandatory that she could show us on the menu where it states it's mandatory (I looked and you can look as well, a MANDATORY tip is for party's of 6 or more, there was only 5 of us.) She then said WHATEVER I WILL TAKE IT OFF! She went back to the register and yelled very loudly that we said she did not deserve a tip, but that's not true we just didn't want to give her a large tip, we were going to give it to the bus boy, but either way as you can see here on the Yelp page it says Tips are optional apparently that's a lie because the truth is if you do not leave a large enough tip you will get treated badly and embarrassed in front of all the other customers . She then returned with our change and yelled at us to NEVER COME BACK! Really? We told her how rude that was of her and she said WHATEVER GET OUT OF HERE! Under no circumstances are you supposed to treat your customers this way, Don't worry, we will NEVER return nor will the other 5 families that we usually travel with every year. John M. Please reevaluate and train your staff to treat customers better this was absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I can guarantee you this is an ongoing problem that will cause you to lose business . There are other family friendly pizza options in your area and we are definitely going to check them out from now on since we are no longer welcome at John's.. Any kind or favorable reviews are obviously from friends or employees. I'm not worried the truth always prevails and I'm sure this will not be the last bad service review your establishment receives. Especially when you have employees like our server who think they have the right to mistreat customers. Such a disgusting attitude from that young lady I hope she's proud of herself for causing my autistic sister to stem profusely because she saw her family getting yelled at! My food came out first (the lasagna), but my husband's and son's 12" pizza took like an extra 10-15 min longer to arrive. I didn't want to eat until they had their food too. The food was mediocre. I liked absolutely everything about the pizza. Keep in mind that the smallest 9 pizza is not a great deal compared to the 12, but most pizza places get cheaper as you increase in size. This restaurant displays different prices online and then charges you more when you place an order over the phone. When we spoke with the manager, he blamed the third-party company where the prices were posted. To me, this raises concerns about potential weights and measures violations. I also ordered a large premium pizza with pepperoni on only half of it. The girl at the register charged me an additional $5 for the pepperoni. Shouldn't I pay less when requesting a topping on only half of the pizza, or at the very least, not be charged the full $5 for an additional topping? The total came to over $40 for a large pizza. There are clearly some questionable pricing practices here, and the restaurant really needs to review and clarify its pricing. Customers should be able to see consistent, transparent prices and know exactly what they will be charged before placing an order. read more

If I could give them 10 stars, I would! This place is great! It's one of our favorite places to have dinner in Mammoth. They have incredible pizza, wings, pasta, and salads. They also make great drinks and cocktails. If you have a family and you're looking for a great spot to take your kids - this is also a great family friendly restaurant. My kids love their food - especially their kids spaghetti and chicken wings. It's a fan favorite in our household. They also have a great selection of ice cream and an arcade too! Their staff is absolutely amazing too - we are always greeted by such friendly smiles and we feel at home. We have been here numerous times even eating here earlier this week. This place WAS a family favorite! Today's experience was something else and will cause us to never return! When we ordered were quoted 25 minute wait time. We sat and waited. It was busy so we didn't think anything of it as the 25 minute mark came and went and understood that they quoted us too short. Then at the 50 minute mark we when to inquire only to find out our order was never ticketed or called and placed directly in the hot case. No one at the counter knew this happened as they had to scramble to find our pizzas. Hector the Manager on Duty has no care or concern that we waited almost an hour while our order sat in the heat case. He did not apologize and said there was nothing he could do. Both cashiers just stood there stunned and continued to play on their phones the whole time we were sitting in the waiting area, the only ones in the waiting room. We also had to tell Hector that we had a salad that he had to find. Moral of the story - avoid this place if busy, they can't keep track of orders. I'll miss that Pesto Pizza! read more

I truly hope the real Owner and or Manager sees this review. I was appalled today after how I saw a supposed manager/owner treat a family (yes with their children present) I was in close proximity to this family and I overheard everything that happened from beginning to end. The young lady server (who later stated she was the manager/owner of the restaurant) was not attending to this family, I heard them ask for several items and I saw they waited long periods of time and ultimately didn't even receive what they had asked for, when they brought it to the young lady's attention she very loudly and rudely told them that they were under staffed that day. That is no excuse to treat your patrons with such disrespect. After all the disappointments the same server/owner/manager of the restaurant added what she said was a mandatory large tip for the family of 5, that's when I'm assuming the mom asked to speak with the manager and thats when the same young lady server/manger/owner showed up and yelled at them again. The woman stated she did not deserve such a large tip and the server/owner/manager went back towards the register and very loudly told everyone that the woman said she did not deserve a tip, that's not what she said she stated that the service was not worth such a large tip, she never said she was not going to leave one. The server/owner/manager comes back with change and she very Loudly and Rudely tells the family to NEVER COME BACK!. A real owner or manager should never ever treat a patron like this. I was so embarrassed for that family. I will never ever give a place that allows this kind of treatment my business. There were better more professional ways to handle this situation. It's not the families fault that they were under staffed. I highly suggest another family pizza place that knows how to treat a family especially in front of children. My absolute favorite bar in my hometown. For all the fellas who like to slap down a couple drinkypoo's with the boys, this is the place. But in all honesty, this bar means a lot more to me than just having a few drinks. There's something about this place that just feels like home. The people, the atmosphere, the country music, the western feel, it all perfectly captures what I love about Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra. After a long day of adventuring, there's honestly nowhere I'd rather end up. Nyesia, Whitney, Luke (who has moved onto an amazing adventure with his wife in Pennsylvania) and Matt are some of the best people you could ask for behind the bar. Their hospitality, kindness, and attention to detail never go unnoticed. Stephen and Amber do an incredible job managing this place and creating an environment where both their employees and customers genuinely feel cared for I've made some damn good memories in this bar, shared a lot of laughs, met some great people, and had more than a few nights I'll never forget. This place isn't just my favorite bar, it's one of those places that feels like a little piece of home. If you're ever in Mammoth after a day exploring the beautiful Eastern Sierra, do yourself a favor and stop in.
