Our first impression was the friendly phone call we made to check if they had a patio and if they were pet-friendly--and guess what? They said, "Yes!" Whoop! When we walked in, we were quickly directed to the patio, just as we had requested. Our server, Ben, was so pleasant and had a great sense of humor. We started with some fried pickles , which were yum, and onions rings that were excellent, thin, fried, and crispy, of course! We had to try the garlic bread , which was tasty and toasty and a must-try appetizer. John Pizza was definitely a must, so we ordered a couple of pizzas to share. The crust was delicious and perfectly balanced with the toppings, and the cheese was just right, not too much. I highly suggest it as well. The ambiance was great, with a clean patio that had plenty of space. The music playlist was the perfect fit for the atmosphere. Thank you, Ben and Kai , for such a welcoming experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing. Our order was almost 2 hours late from the time of order, and we were repeatedly told, "10 more minutes," then "5 more minutes," then "it's coming out now," only for nothing to happen. What made the experience worse was the lack of honesty and customer service. We were told the oven was broken, yet pizzas were continuously coming out for other customers. Later, we were told the order had already been printed, only to find out our pizza hadn't even been started nearly two hours after we placed the order. The gentleman who appeared to be in charge came out with a dismissive attitude and wasn't apologetic at all. Instead of acknowledging the delay or offering a sincere apology, he simply said, "It's not anyone's fault." Do you want a refund? A little honesty and common courtesy would have gone a long way. If there was a problem, just be upfront about it instead of giving repeated excuses and inaccurate wait times. Unfortunately, the poor communication and lack of accountability made this a very frustrating experience. I hope management takes customer service more seriously in the future. read more

We have been here numerous times even eating here earlier this week. This place WAS a family favorite! Today's experience was something else and will cause us to never return! When we ordered were quoted 25 minute wait time. We sat and waited. It was busy so we didn't think anything of it as the 25 minute mark came and went and understood that they quoted us too short. Then at the 50 minute mark we when to inquire only to find out our order was never ticketed or called and placed directly in the hot case. No one at the counter knew this happened as they had to scramble to find our pizzas. Hector the Manager on Duty has no care or concern that we waited almost an hour while our order sat in the heat case. He did not apologize and said there was nothing he could do. Both cashiers just stood there stunned and continued to play on their phones the whole time we were sitting in the waiting area, the only ones in the waiting room. We also had to tell Hector that we had a salad that he had to find. Moral of the story - avoid this place if busy, they can't keep track of orders. I'll miss that Pesto Pizza! read more

After a long day of driving, we were hungry. We came here for dinner. Was it because it was dinner time, because it was Sunday, or because there's many people vacationing? Idk. Whatever the case may be, it took ages for everything: for host to greet us, to seat us, to take our order and to get our food. My food came out first (the lasagna), but my husband's and son's 12" pizza took like an extra 10-15 min longer to arrive. I didn't want to eat until they had their food too. The food was mediocre. We were hungry, we ate it, but there was nothing exceptional about it. The inside was fine, your typical pizza pub. It was cramped. I wouldn't return, but to each their own. read more

This pizza place is so good not sure how this doesn't have more positive reviews! I can't wait to come back with more people. We tried the supreme pizza and it came out pretty quickly. I liked absolutely everything about the pizza. Keep in mind that the smallest 9 pizza is not a great deal compared to the 12, but most pizza places get cheaper as you increase in size. FYI: this place is a godsend for how late they serve food (kitchen close at 10pm) compared to other nearby gastropubs/bars. They don't just serve pizza, we actually got everything other than pizza on the menu LOL. Everything was in GENEROUS portions, but seriously were all great options! Super family friendly place. They have two areas, one that has full service and cocktails and the other without- where you can order and wait for your food sit where you like- which is great if you have kids! The pizza was super yummy, reminds me of pizza growing up. read more

Stop by after an overnight backpacking trip. I will say their pizza is good, the beer was cold. The service was mediocre, staff were not friendly, seemed like if you were not local then you get a different type of customer service. The place has good seating outside and inside. I'm bad at snowboarding and everything hurt when I got to this place, but the pizza made me feel better. Greasy, warm goodness was exactly what I needed. A giant pizza was enough for 4 of us, I liked the meat lovers. The sausage was a bit more crumbly, and they baked the pizza a bit more crispy. Great service too read more

Very cool place, and very good food! We sat in the Outlaw Saloon section. The decor was very cool and welcoming. The menu is the same as Johns Pizza. It's basically the same place. But if you sit in the Saloon area you get table service. If you sit in the pizza side, you order at the counter, and it's a little more casual, and there are more families with kids. Our food was pretty good. Nice sized portions, and fair prices. The service was pretty decent too. I would definitely come back! read more

It feels like any good food place in Mammoth on the weekend during snow season is busy, and John's Pizza Works is no exception! Dropped in on Saturday night and they have both the option to try to snag a table on one side of the restaurant or put your name on a list for the other side and wait for a table. We were thankfully able to snag a table and the staff were quick to clean right as we sat which was awesome. The food came out and was DELICIOUS. they also don't charge for ranch! 1 star removed because the prices were insane. $40 for a large pizza! read more

The pizzas were delicious and really hit the spot, though that might've been partly because we were so hungry. The only downside was the crust, which tasted more like flatbread than traditional pizza dough. The service was also a bit slow, and their ordering/pickup system could use some improvement. Even though we arrived at the scheduled pickup time, we still had to wait an extra 15 minutes. Ordered online for pickup on a very busy Saturday night during high season. Parking lot is very small and was a mess with cars and no parking spots were available. Pick up inside was very quick and friendly. The pizza was subpar. I think microwave pizza would be better. Dominos deep dish is so much better than what we ordered here. We ordered a small Supreme pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and bell pepper. Note that the small pizza is more a personal size pizza or a pizza you'd get for the kids to share, only 4 slices and not very filling. Not recommended if you're sharing with another adult. Texture and taste of pizza dough was off (not chewy and not bready, more dry and hard) and toppings were sparse. Cheese quality was not good. I don't know if they salt the top of the pizza but it was very salty, almost inedible. We also ordered the buffalo wings, crispy and medium spice. Wings were cold and tough, not crispy. Almost like they were refrigerated and warmed up in the microwave. Medium spice is more like a mild, less spice than standard buffalo sauce. Ambiance of the restaurant is nice, although very loud and very busy. Dining room is not as big as you would expect. I would rather get dominos than eat here again. read more
