What a phenomenal place on every level, pushing it to one of my favorite drinking establishments in the world. I didn't have a reservation, but decided to chance it since I was in the neighborhood. I am not a member, nor did I purchase their hall pass and hoped for the best with my last minute decision. I arrived at their 4pm opening time and used the Green Room entrance to ask about availability, and success they had availability. A must-go if you are a fan of whiskey! I've tried to go (walk-in) a couple of times but this spot is usually super busy, so if you don't have a reservation you may be waiting 1+ hrs! The interior of this bar is absolutely stunning. They have a whole wall of whiskey--taking their name "whiskey library" pretty seriously. I think you can walk in for drinks at the Green Room but the drinks are much better at the restaurant. Looking back at all the different places we ate and drank, this was my favorite. LOVED: * All my drinks * The oysters ($36) - 4 stars: For 6. I could eat 2 dozen. * Caesar Salad ($25) - 4 stars: A bit overdressed and overpriced, but good * Burger ($25) - 4.5 stars: OK, so its a burger but it was so satisfying! Came with crispy, addicting fries. * Whiskey cake ($15) - 4.5 stars: Luscious, rich chocolate cake with a crispy hazelnut layer at the bottom. Reminded me of a Ferrer Rocher - YUM! Joined a few friends here who are members. We decided to come last minute and there were no spots available in the library or members lounge, so we hung out in the green room where we had a blast. The ambiance is super nice and the wait staff were really friendly. The drink menu is immense and the old fashioned that I had was excellent. I will definitely come back. read more

I have previously visited years ago, and wanted my husband (who loves whiskey) to experience this ambiance at least once! It seems that they now offer "hall pass" options to visitors, which is $25 per person for a guaranteed reservation - I was a little surprised to find out that the $25 pass is basically only for the reservation, and the price is not applied to your final bill at all. We opted not to make a reservation, and instead showed up about 10 min prior to opening on Saturday. Turns out this may not have been necessary, as the library didn't really pick up/become busier until about 5pm. However, if you want to ensure that you get in/get a seat without reservations, I would still highly recommend showing up early to wait. The library is upstairs (Green Room is on first), and we were promptly seated at the bar, and handed an extensive menu. It was actually quite challenging for my husband to pick out what he wanted to try. Thankfully, our bartender was really knowledgeable- and after asking my husband a few questions regarding his preferences, she was able to make several recommendations for him. I opted to get the Low Tide cocktail, which I would describe as a tart, spirit-forward drink. Came here for a welcoming party for a wedding, so i may not have the best judgment of how it is during normal running business. They closed out the whole second story for our group. The ambiance was calming, and the space is beautiful. The food was amazingggggg. One of the best cooked salmon I've had, roasted cauliflower with chimichurri sauce was also a hit. The groups' favorite was the dark chocolate and hazelnut cake. Can't forget how amazing their drinks were. Very friendly staff. Be prepared to wait for long single The Green Room is a first come first serve cocktail bar with few seats. Large groups - good luck. We were just 3 of us and got a table after almost 30mins of wait. We wasted no time and ordered the Blue Ribbon and Victory Lap. Both the drinks were outstanding and we enjoyed it. We really wanted to stay for long and order a few more rounds but had to head back to seattle. But we also tried their dark chocolate whiskey cake and that was mind blowing. Arrived close to opening on a Saturday night and lucked out getting a table upstairs. This place truly has an entire library of whiskey bottles- complete with adorable library ladders that allow the staff to reach bottles on high shelves. The bar staff is amazingly talented- providing helpful explanations of the menu and spot-on cocktail recommendations. Suggest ordering a stirred cocktail which will be made table-side on a rolling library book cart (LOVE!). We ended up getting the whiskey flight told him to chose the first two but end on one of our favs Uncle Nearest, Black owned whiskey brand. He took us around the world started off with a Japanese whiskey , then headed to Ireland and then ended back in the US. I loved my time here. Steve rocked! He was well educated on the whiskey and answered all of our questions. He was so friendly to us and the customer service was out of this world! I looked through many reviews before coming, and didn't see anything about the above before going, which could have been nice. My husband and I went on a Thursday around 4:30 pm, and was told since we are not members they can put us on the waitlist for 2 seats later in the night around 9 if one comes available. At 6:30 our table was ready! The library was extremely neat. The atmosphere and environment was cozy, welcoming, and fun. Being a speakeasy, and a membership lounge, it was expensive! Drinks range from $6 pours to a couple hundred. I got a blackberry sidecar and my husband got straight whiskey. Both were good. We did not get food, but saw plenty of it! Some looked very fancy (hence the price) but some looked like typical bar food. Bartenders were friendly, quick, and full of knowledge! If you like whisk(e)y, you need to check this place out. It's gorgeous, they have an amazing selection of whisk(e)ys (and some other liquors as well) and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Our bartender did ask what price range we were aiming for, so it's not one of those places (at least from my experience) where they will recommend the most expensive item without being mindful of your budget. I like Islay whiskies and did a flight of some nice whiskies selected by our bartender (and sommelier?). He advised what the cost would be to make sure it was ok, and let me know which order to drink them in for the best experience. My husband and I shared a couple of appetizers too - the mushrooms and salmon rillette. Both delicious. Before the Islay samplings I also had an old fashioned that was very nicely made. Lastly, we heard this place can be a little hard to get into - at least if you'd like to sit in the upstairs bar (where the beautiful library is, complete with ladders). We went relatively early on a Thursday evening in early February. There was a wait, so we put our names on the list, but then we lucked out because they had a last-minute cancellation. But you can hang in the nice little downstairs bar while waiting. (Disclaimer: We are visiting from out of town and are not at all experts. This was just our experience.) This place was pretty cool and some delicious whiskey I tasted. I did a tasting menu and the bartender was very knowledgeable (I sat at the bar). We arrived early when they opened like 15 minutes before they opened and we were able to sit at the bar for an hour/hour an a half and enjoy some small appetizers and whiskey tasting. Now I have to start with a disclaimer that I am not a fan of whiskey. At all. I came with some friends, one in particular who is very much a whiskey connoisseur and was able to get us a reservation upstairs. We had a dedicated table and bartender for the entire night and we ordered a smattering of drinks and dessert. I did try some of the whiskeys at the table but just can't bring myself to enjoy it, but I did end up enjoying a vodka-based cocktail that I was told was going out of rotation soon after, so I don't remember the name of it. I did also try the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was nice on the palate after the bitter burn of whiskey. My friends did seem to all enjoy their beverages and desserts as well. My boyfriend is a whiskey fan so we made reservations online ($25/p for non-members) on our Portland trip. There were no timeslots on the website, only available days so we put in a preferred time and waited for an email to confirm. A little weird that you can't just pick an open timeslot but they emailed us back with the time that we wanted. The menu book is obviously extensive with mostly whiskeys but also other liquors and cocktails. Our bartender was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations based on my boyfriend's preferred tastes for both the whiskey flight and the whiskey to use in an old fashioned. I generally don't like old fashioned drinks but this was the best one I've ever had. The orange flavor coated your mouth in the most pleasant way after each sip. I had a mezcal cocktail which was also tasty. As a snack, we got the rosemary parmesan popcorn and it was AMAZING. They infused butter with rosemary and it perfumed the popcorn without any rosemary bits in the popcorn itself. The bowl was so big that we couldn't finish it. Love the ambiance, very dim, with those green lamps on some of the tables, the wall of lit up whiskey (and more) bottles and the big comfy couches. Makes you feel like you're in the beauty and the beast movie or Vampire diaries. We came here after watching the symphony so we were all dressed up and wanted a place to grab a little food, have something to drink and just chat. We got seated after 30 min, it was around 5ish or so. And got the best seat in the room, right by the fireplace. The rosemary-Parmesan popcorn is addicting. We also got a basket of bread with the softest butter. Bruschetta was good if you're a big fan of mushrooms. What an experience! This place was truly unforgettable. We walked in on a Saturday night with almost no hope of getting in. We were initially quoted a wait of 2 hours. We then proceeded to head to the green room to grab drinks while we waited for our names to be called out. To our surprise, the wait was only an hour long and we were escorted upstairs to the library. The ambience screams of old money and class. The whiskey library is a treat to the eyes! They have about 2000 varieties of whiskeys. The service is incredible! Our server regularly kept checking in on us. He was very knowledgeable and suggested whiskeys as per our choices and price range, the whiskeys can range anywhere between $15-$500 per glass. Our server even made our whiskey cocktails by our table. Pro tip: All shaken cocktails are made by your table. The apps and dessert were amazing and complimented our whiskeys well. We tried the bruschetta and the dark chocolate whiskey cake and both were out of this world. Donot miss going here if you are visiting Portland. It's a membership only club but they grant hall passes upto two weeks in advance for Tuesday-Thursday. We tried to come here the first night and the guy at the front made up some lame excuse that we couldn't go up to the whiskey library. We decided to try again the next day right when they opened. In a town where pretentiousness is as common in bars as pint glasses, this place takes it to a whole other level. It's amazing inside, yes, but it's still a bar, and it requires you to be a member in order to visit. Memberships cost $200 just to set up (I guess they follow the gym membership model here) plus $800 a year to keep, and that doesn't include your actual drinks. To get one you have to join a waitlist that apparently takes a year or more in order to have the honor of paying them to let you make a reservation bestowed upon you. If you're a lowly peasant without a membership you can reserve a weeknight-only "hall pass" for $25 a person that grants you the luxury of walking through the door. Of a bar. Skip the whole "members only" schtick and go to Scotch Lodge, or any other nice and equally swanky Portland bar where they embrace the "hospitality" part of "hospitality industry" and welcome drinkers in and provide every bit as good a service and drinks. read more

This location does not have a private parking lot. You need to find street parking or Uber your way to this location. My party had to wait in the green room before they made space for us. The green room was nice and a good intro to seeing the Whiskey Library. This place has the widest selection of Whiskey that I have ever seen. They have over 2000 different bottles. Every party has their own bartender. The bartenders wheel around a cart and create your drinks in front of you. They will even sell you coasters so you can remember the experience. The octopus is extremely good. The meat and cheese board is a delight. Fries are quite tasty but not what I was expecting. The fried cauliflower has a vinegar sauce on it.
