Food is quite good.....ordered the chicken tikka masala, and the palak paneer. Both tasted great. Went there on a Friday for the Chicken dum birayni....they only make it on Fridays. That was excellent ! One of the best dum birayni I have had in the bay area. Much better than Hydrabadi Bowl on Washington Blvd. They have regular Chicken/Lamb biranyni daily too, but try to get the dum birayni on Fridays...Excellent. It is a small cozy place, and is more like a family affair, instead of template based - cookie cutter restaurant... We were a group of 6 adults + 1 toddler... following is what we ordered - 1 Vada Pav - 1 Cholle Bhatura - 1 Dal fry - 1 Palak Paneer - 1 Malvani Chicken - 3 Nan - 1 Muli Paratha - 1 Aloo Paratha - 1 Chicken Dum Biryani Everything was amazing... and we ended up ordering 2 more Vada Pavs, and 1 more Malvani chicken. We went there last friday. There is not much to say about ambience, its come eat or better take it to-go kind of place. Its neat and clean though. They had incense sticks I wanted them to shut it off as my son has allergy issues and they were prompt on it and removed it. We ordered chicken leg, wrap with chicken and cut mirchi and mango lassi. wrap with chicken gets an A+ - its good for carb-conscious people. not too oily; whole wheat roti with lotsaa chicken cut mirchi is like elsewhere - chicken leg can be spicier. the whole bill came to 12 + tax and tips. will definitely go back some more. read more

Really good place to eat indian food. New entry in their menu, mix veg was awesome. I tried mango lassi, which was also good in taste. Curries had great flavours of indian style of cuisines. Infact, they give rice with curries which makes them very different from others. In all, great taste, hygienic food and very affordable price. Customer Service also very friendly. I've been to Indian Restaurants and this is by far one out of 2 restaurants that I will always come back to. The food is great! I love the garlic naans, the baigans, the malai masala, and the egg fried rice. I recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Indian food. Yummy! Oh and the service is great. Mumbai Chowk is easily one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the bay area! The kids love it too. A lot of excellent veg & non-veg options. Our list of veggie favorites here includes pav bhaji, dahi puri, achari bengan, jalapeno/aloo/garlic naans and mooli paratha. Among the non-veg items, we really like the fish & chicken sizzlers & achari lamb ghosh. Their "kotthu paratha", which comes in veg and non-veg options, in my opinion, is better than the ones in the South Indian restaurants (like Saranava Bhavan). read more

Wonderful Indian food...just enjoyed a fantastic meal- amazing Achari Gosh and Fish on a sizzling platter. I am someone who enjoys non-vegetarian food more. Well, my husband and the kids love this place and so do I. I typically get a stomachache from eating Indian food. Might be due to the oiliness of the indian foods I have had in the past. This place is amazing! The food isn't oily. My husband travels everywhere in the states and loves to have Indian food. He still comes back to this place as his favorite....Dabba Ghost. I love it too. Came into Fremont from out of town and went to this place on Friday night, based on all the positive yelp reviews and I'm glad we did! So glad that we went again on Saturday night too! The food is authentic and delicious. The portion size is BIG! The owner is super friendly and courteous, as is the rest of the staff. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating has nothing to do with the food. While we were there, we had a really loud and annoying family sitting right next to us & that took away from the experience. Also, it could do some improving on the ambience. Overall, a great find. Great food.. ordered chowmein, naan , paneer tikka masala. Naans were really awesome.. soft but still bit of crunch. with paneer butter masala it was amazing. Good food keeps us coming back! It's usually very crowded on the weekends and most evenings, so expect a little waiting for service and possibly seating as well. Their dishes are tasty but do ask them to put a little salt in them as it seems they do not already come with any. Good ambiance, the decor is nice and authentic! read more

Try the pani puri, the pav bhaji, the breads, the lemon soda, the chicken biriyani, the stuffed cheese naan but really best of all the pani puri. The best I have had so far in America. We tried their chaat- dabeli(a-ok), papdi chaat(a-ok), paav bhaaji(a-ok). Supposedly "malvani" chicken had the same gravy as supposedly "kohlapuri" mutton - don't be fooled - these artn't authentic. Both curries had blender-ed onion+tomato gravy which tasted raw. I'm never ordering these again. The Kholambi Masala seemed like someone cooked shrimp and then added it to the pre-prepared masala- hardly any of the shrimp pieces had masala on them. I would go back only for the chaat, if at all. I like the food and service in general, but today the waitress was pretty insensitive. I am fine when someone misses an order so long as they have the courtesy to accept it. Not attending to pings and stating that "Papdi chat" takes time to prepare (more than 30 mins) is total BS when we got 4 out of 5 orders placed (all of which were more complex to prepare). I will come back to this place because the owner is pretty good and I have had many good experiences. But it's upto the management to realize that customers have choice and being more hospitable is super important for the business. read more

Waited for 20 minutes for the someone to take our Order .. the food was ok .. the Chicken Manchurian we got was awful .. reheated old fried chicken and no salt in the sauce .... we complained to the waitress who just shrugged .. we said can we talk to owner and he never showed up .... didn't care i guess .... they didn't offer to refund or give a new serving seeing that we had not eaten that stale stuff !! I have been having lunch in this restaurant for the past 3 years, though of course not all the time. As a foodie with a passion for spicy foods, Mumbai Choek is in my top five restaurants in Newark, Ca. My 2 other lunch partners would have withdrawal symptoms if they don't come here for lunch at least once every 2 weeks. The service is friendly and prompt. The portions are not excessive but certainly sufficient for lunch - not so full as to induce dozing off back at the office at 2.00 pm!! There are still a lot of items on the menu that I have yet to taste and thus I will be still be here for lunch for sometime to come. PLEASE do not eat here....they do their food prep outside in the back parking lot..... It is so dirty!!! There is garbage, janitorial buckets, hair, dirt, parked cars right next to food that they serve in the resturaunt......they have been reported to health department....but continue to prepare food in back parking lot......so disgusting.......take a drive behind the resturaunt and see for yourself! read more

We have been visiting this place for quite some time now but recently realized they had started adding 15% service fee. The food is OK but the service is not good. Compared to other bay area restaurants seems like this is little over priced considering the ambiance and overall feel of the restaurant. They have started to charge 10 cents for a bag which other restaurants just give it for free to take your left over food. This wasn't expected and pissed me off. The food here is just... Ok. We ordered a lot of dishes such as pav bhaji, biriyani etc. But only the vada pav was of comparable taste to other restaurants. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't _bad_, it's just not intensely flavorful enough. If you're craving for Bombay style street food, there are other places such as GoChatzz not too far away. Never ever go to this place. They will charge you 18% gratuity every time. I went there with my family the other day and only with 2 adults and a child they charged gratuity. I thought it might have been a mistake so I brought it to the attention of the Owner/Manager lady but to my amazement she said that they have started charging gratuity on every check now. She also told me that I may skip leaving a tip but gratuity is something I will have to pay. I will never go to this place again. read more

Heard about this place on 1170 AM. Yelp reviews were great so went to check it out. The place was deserted around 6PM on a Sunday evening. It seemed like a self-serve place but the owner welcomed us and took our order. They are kid friendly and willing to adjust spice level appropriate for kids. 5 and 2 year olds really enjoyed the Paav bhaji and Tandoori Shrimp. Older one drank water after every bite of shrimp but he liked it. Sheekh Lamb kabab, Chicken Tandoori leg and Sukha mutton masala were amazing. Ask them to dial down Sukha mutton if you can not handle super hot food. Food was great except Samosas and Chicken wrap. Samosas were over-fried but owner replaced them when we pointed it out. Replacement samosas were not over-fried but had too much oil. 50 cent grocery store samosas are way better. Chicken was over cooked and dry in the chicken-wrap. Overall this is a great place to try non- traditional Indian food. I will be visiting them again soon. read more

I tried this restaurant based on the top rating in Yelp. I was choosing a restaurant for a party of 6, so the pressure was on. Mumbai Chowk delivered. The food was excellent. We had the manager order for us and his selections were excellent. We had two appetizers and five curry dishes. We had chicken, lamb, and vegetarian dishes which were delicious. The setting was actually nicer than i imagined. The room is bright, with new tile, tables, and chairs. It is very clean and a pleasant environment. I will certainly be back. read more

Really good food. We loved the Sookha Mutton. Also liked the Masala Chaas. We have never had it before. So nothing to compare it with. But it tasted great. Prices were very reasonable as well. Found this place on my iphone while I was visiting and man the food bought back some really great memories of when I was in Bombay ( now Mumbai...hate the new name) a long time ago........nostalgic! The food was amazing especially the selection....I found some very hard to find, yet very enjoyable dishes typical to different neighborhoods back home.......... yet in one place!!! The sea food was to die for especially the fish koliwada....service was above average and the cleanliness( priority) was comforting. I would definitely love to revisit with some of my foodie friends....The hardest decision was to order several appetizer's or one of the main course dishes. The assortment of Nan's and the clay oven (Tandoor) dishes was what sets this place apart........The dishes are not overspiced and are full of flavor almost to the point that they taste home cooked. read more

In a word "yum". I go here about once a week. Sometimes more. After going to this place I can't go to any other Indian restaurant in the area. They are hands down the best. If you go at lunch, get the lunch special, its a great deal. Also did you know you can change the Dahl for Chana Masala?!! The service is also excellent. My first few visits were skeptical about the place, but you will not find this amazing and authentic munbai-style food anywhere in bay area. We visited Mumbai Chowk few weeks. It was a great experience with very close taste that we had growing up in Mumbai. My favorite was Sabudana Vada, it was very authentic.
