My hubby and I finally got a date night in on Friday and ended up at Kiya Sushi in Fremont. Well worth the wait! As a vegetarian, I always walk into sushi spots mentally bracing for slim pickings. But Kiya actually delivered. The veggie options felt intentional and not a substitution tacked onto the menu. Everything was fresh and well put together, and you could tell the kitchen has standards for what goes out. I went with the Veggie Crispy Roll (subbed soy paper) and the Mango Secret as-is. Both were delish and would recommend if you're a veggie lover! A little spotlight for their garlic edamame! The spice, the garlic - it was so well flavored/balanced that I found myself using the regular edamame and dipping it into the leftover garlic/spices. Haha One heads up on seating: if you're going on a weekend, grab a reservation. We walked in and waited about 20 min for two, which wasn't bad, but the spot is cozy. Lots of 2 and 4-top tables packed in pretty close together. Plan accordingly! Overall a great find and a solid date night spot. We'll be back.
I looked on Yelp for my husband's favorite food and found Kiya Sushi. When we showed up, parking was really tight with a lot of cars going in and out--the lot is way too small for the number of businesses there. Nevertheless, we stayed and were told it would be a 40-minute wait for a party of eight. They were really busy and had a lot of people waiting at the door, so they were short with us and barely spoke. Unfortunately, once we were seated, the service didn't get any better. We sat for at least 5-10 minutes with no one coming to our table, so we finally asked someone passing by if we could put our order in. She told us to wait and that she'd be right back. When she returned, she said it wasn't a good time to place the order because they were really busy... like, what??? We asked her to clarify two more times, and we heard her right--she wanted us to wait to order because the food would take too long since they were so busy. Not sure how waiting would help when they were still taking other tables' orders. We decided to go ahead and put our order in anyway and just wait. Since we were a party of eight, the food came out sporadically. Some of us got soups (for those who ordered full plates), and some sushi started coming out. We were starving--it was almost 8pm--so we started eating. Unfortunately, my kids were the last to get their food since they ordered chicken teriyaki plates. Once everything arrived, I have to say a lot of it was really good. We got: Angry Fish Sushi: 4/5 Mango Spider: 5/5 California Hand Roll: 4/5 Shrimp Tempura Roll: 5/5 49er Roll: 3/5 Teriyaki Chicken Plate: 4/5 Shrimp tempura: 10/10 best sauce we have ever tasted. Overall, we were really happy with the food once it came, but I wish the service had been way better. I understand being busy, but at that point, they should hire more people to help.
My sister had a doctor's appointment at the nearby Kaiser Medical Center and I wanted to try this place for lunch afterwards. Found a parking right in front which said reserved but the hostess said it was ok to park there. We walked in and it's a cozy place and ordered 2 salmon teriyaki lunch specials, which come with miso soup, a generous salad with delicious dressing, 2 gyozas light and crispy, 4 California rolls, and of course the tasty salmon. I also ordered a Salmon Skin handroll full of yummy crunchy salmon skin and to top off the meal, we were each given a delicious complimentary scoop of green tea ice cream! I will definitely come back to this place with the great service, tasty food and cozy ambience.
BEST sushi spot in the area. Located in a small shopping center, Kiya Sushi is easily accessible. It's always busy, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit before getting seated as it's not a huge space. Service is great, staff is attentive. Onto the sushi... SO fresh, great quality, and can't beat it for the price. I've been here often enough and never had a miss. I love the number 1 roll (cucumber wrapped) because it's a low carb option with amazing citrusy flavor. I've had a handful of their rolls and they're all incredible. Another item I always order is the Takoyaki. Personally, I like them pretty crispy on the outside and a decent amount of octopus inside. These hit that mark perfectly! Will always be my go to spot
Great service and good food! Throughout the meal, our server was very attentive and kind. She offered us edamame to start off the meal and green tea ice cream to close off our meal, all on the house. My fried and I got the dinner combos, with curry katsu and the saba shioyaki. Portion was good, but frankly the meal didn't particularly stand out. My favorite part of the meal was actually the salad, it was really fresh and the dressing was delicious. I'll be back to try the sushi to give a more accurate review :)
Finally I have found actual good quality sushi in the Bay Area. This place is a hidden gem. I'm originally from Seattle and spend almost a decade living in Vegas. Both foodie places with high quality seafood and sushi with a plethora of options. I've lived in the Bay Area for almost 5 years, and have been genuinely disappointed with the lack of sushi options and lackluster. There's one other sushi restaurant I found that is high quality, but it's all the way in San Mateo. This one is close to home and is our new go-to sushi spot! We came on a weekday evening. It was busy but we were sat right away as there was one table open. Ambiance is casual, it looks like a small family run business. Our services was attentive and the staff thanked us as we left. We loved every item we ordered on the menu, which doesn't happen too often. We ordered miso soup, chicken karaage, a Bento plate, and 4 different sushi rolls. I forgot the names, but the cucumber wrapped no-rice roll and the roll topped with black Masago, were my favorites! So happy this place exists,
Celebrated my mom's birthday here. Restaurant is small but was packed throughout the whole night. All the dishes were very reasonably priced and fresh tasting. - dream box #1: 5/5 I loved everything. Came with real wasabi and all so so fresh. They even asked if I want the ebi shrimp head to be made into a soup. - chicken karaage: 5/5 juicy chicken fried so crispy - lobster roll: 3.5/5 you really can't taste the lobster in here but still good - garlic edamame 2/5 more on the sour side and too spicy I wish I lived closure otherwise this would be a very frequent weekly dinner
Come early to avoid the wait! We come around 11:30 on Saturday and were able to get seated quickly. This is a small and popular place, so it does get filled up quickly. Service was fast. All the sushi and sashimi tasted fresh. Free edamame as appetizers. Hands down no complaint there. Price is very reasonable too. I'd come back again if I'm in the area.
Highly recommended by my youngest foodie child & she knows what's up. The volcano roll was delish. We also shared a dinner combo which was plenty of food for two ppl. We also received complimentary edamame before our orders came out and then offered free green tea ice cream afterwards. Best of all, each member of the service staff were very nice & hospitable. Stumbled upon this spot while in the area and what an incredible find! It's now one of our go-to sushi restaurants. The atmosphere is warm and family-friendly, and I always see lots of families with young kids enjoying their meals here. My toddler absolutely loves it, which says a lot since he's quite the picky eater! We've been here many times, and the consistency is what truly stands out. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Some of our favorites are the Salmon Shioyaki Set, Sashimi Salad, and the Mango Crunch Roll - each one perfectly prepared and delicious every time. Even when the restaurant is busy, the service is always on point; attentive, quick, and genuinely kind. Their fish and seafood selection is consistently top-quality, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. A reliable, family-friendly sushi spot that delivers every single time. Highly recommend!
This spot is tucked into a small plaza with a number of other restaurants--finding parking is tough, so be warned! We were lucky to snag a spot and were seated pretty quickly, even though they seem pretty busy. The service was quite good here; they saw when I dropped my chopsticks and replaced it for me almost immediately, and were very attentive to even just eye contact as a request for service. They also offered us a small dish complimentary edamame as a starter and a little scoop of free ice cream at the end, which was a wonderful touch. The food came out really quickly after we ordered. The sashimi was really good! The selection of rolls wasn't my favorite (a lot of them contained crab salad, which I usually don't go for), but I did like the agedashi tofu a lot. If you visit for lunch, they have a couple really great lunch special options. I have tried the 3 rolls for ~$16 combo, and it is definitely worth it. The rolls came out a bit messy and not quite uniform, but they tasted perfectly good. Overall, I would (and have) come back! It feels very much like a middle-of-the-road sushi spot with pretty agreeable pricing, and I think it's a good choice for a casual, unpretentious sushi meal. read more
I think this may be my new favorite sushi place in fremont. To start off, they gave us complimentary yummy edamame. I think Chicken Karaage can definitely be better, it was ok, not bad. I got the Mango crunch roll which was really good loved the flavor. Also we loved the monster roll (shrimp tempura) and the sauce on top really added to the flavor. One of the rolls we got had baked salmon on top, which seemed tasted ok, I think layer could've been a bit thicker. We also got complimentary ice cream at the end of our meal, strawberry this time, not a fan of strawberries but appreciate the gesture. Service was great as well! read more

I didn't get to dine in since I had a time crunch for lunch so I ordered to go. When I came it looked like there was a good amount of seating. It could definitely get crowded though. The parking lot is small but I was able to find a spot. Everything tasted fresh and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. I was craving handrolls and they did not disappoint. I ordered the deluxe hand roll and it was seriously melt in your mouth. And the salmon skin hand roll. It was flavor packed and just the right amount of crunchiness. Salmon maki was good. And the hamachi toro was delish. All reasonably priced. Will come back and dine in next time! read more
3.5 stars! I have mixed feelings about this place because I've had inconsistent experiences. They give complementary edamame while you wait for your food. I got the Salmon Lover (4/5) and a Mango Spider (3/5). The Salmon Lover was good; the fish was nice and fresh. Unfortunately, the mango spider fell short for me. It was really saucy/ creamy and the taste got tiring pretty quickly. The real star is their sashimi! I got a deluxe sashimi tray for a family gathering and everyone loved it. They also have a really good lunch special deal and the portions are massive! read more
Came here on a Sunday evening and it was quite busy. The restaurant isn't it too big but it's not too small either. The ambiance is nice and casual. The service was great! Straight to the point and all the staff members were very attentive. Empty plates would be taken pretty much as soon as you're done, which is great since the food comes out quickly too! The food was great for the price! We got maybe 5 rolls and an appetizer for around $60! They also have a big menu with lots of variety. Will definitely be back! read more
Wow! The service here was amazing. The parking situation was difficult on a Friday night. We got here around 8pm and zero parking anywhere. Luckily found street parking. To be expected though, given the amount of food spots in this tiny plaza. There were only 15 minute parking spots available, which I assume was for the liquor store mostly or for pick up. We were seated right away for a party of 6. Luckily, a large group had just left! They set down a bowl of complimentary edamame which has never happened to me before, a nice touch! I was eying the dinner combination options but ultimately went with the chirashi don. Several people in my party went with the dinner combination and wow they give you full rolls! The chirashi don was plated beautifully, the octopus was a little fishy so wasn't my favorite. Wasabi really helped tone it down. My partner got the chicken udon and California crispy roll. He enjoyed his meal as well. Portions were very generous and food was good in quality and taste. They informed us that they were offering free ice cream and asked if we wanted any. Super great service, they really took care of us. I'm glad we tried this place out! Would absolutely come back for the service alone. read more

Kiya will be our families favorite sushi spot in Fremont. Weekly staple! They have the best rolls and best priced sushi. The fish is not fishy if you know, the experience from the food is always 10/10. It's busy for a reason! Not pictured though, they have the best vegetarian sushi rolls. They have mastered the vegetarian ingredients and cook them in fun ways with unique pairings! Lotus roll really adds oomph even if you're not a vegetarian rolls kinda girlie. read more
This review is long overdue. Kiya is our go-to spot for sushi. We've eaten here at least 20 times over the years, and it's consistently delicious every single visit. We usually start with a hand roll, whether we're splurging on the deluxe or keeping it simple with spicy tuna. Their karaage chicken is a favorite, and every piece of nigiri is incredibly fresh and flavorful. For our New Year's Eve dinner, we treated ourselves to a few specials, including the wagyu nigiri and a fantastic lobster roll, our first time having lobster in a sushi roll. The space is a bit small, but the staff is always kind and attentive. I can't imagine switching sushi spots anytime soon, no one compares to Kiya. read more

The replacement of layang layang express in the plaza where no restaurants survive, not even the beloved lizu chinese, is kiya sushi and kiya sushi is great! Like many great sushi restaurants, kiya served us edamame beans. Normally these are salted to the extreme for flavior but like everything else, kiya is more subtle. The edamame was low sodium and they were great. I will never complain about any complomentary apperizers as they should not be expected. Many people know that kiya in japanese means sparks joy and kiya sushi does just that. We ordered 2 rolls and an appetizer. The ctazy roll came out early and fast, well before the karaage and golden gate roll. This is a served when ready restaurant and not a served together restuarant. Like all classy japanese restaurants, thus restaurants use a low sodium and regular authentic kikoman bottle. The crazy roll was my favorite but it was noted that the amount of avoxado used was subtle. I would order it again. One thing i loved was the giant plastic water cups with a slice of lemon kn it. To americans, water is key but to asians, they dont need it at all and they dont even drink beverages during a meal becuase it disrupts digestion. The ice in all my drinks were very subtle. My only wish is that is that they served more ice in the water and the cup they gave me with my coke. Kids love kataage since its just chicken nuggets. Kiya takes a different appeoach to their karaage and super fry them and use slim peices of chicken. They also use a very thin dip whixh is even different from non tradiotional restaurants. The final treat was a complimentary matcha ice cream desseet. A great finisj to a great meal. A great meal worth the lowest suggested tip amount of 18%. This is the best restaurant this plaza has ever seen, or at least, the best place since papa johns left. read more
Mind blown at the presentation and price point. The maki is $5.5 per 6 whereas other establishments are $6-$8 and the sashimi was thick and cut beautifully. Oysters I wasn't crazy about but I loved the maki and nigiri with the shiso leaves. The orchids also tasted quite nice. Wasabi is hit or miss. The staff is super friendly with lotta of parking out and plenty of seating. read more
We were in the area and were craving for Japanese food. After seeing this place being highly rated, we decided to try it out ourselves. They have an extensive menu. We ordered the Agedashi Tofu, Sushi Lunch Roll Combo, and two lunch specials The lunch specials were $14.95. It came with two gyozas, four pieces of California Roll and choice of protein. We had one with salmon and the second one with teriyaki chicken. The Sushi Lunch Roll Combo, we had the California Roll, Unagi Roll, and Tempura Roll. It also came with miso soup and salad. While we're waiting for our food, the friendly waitress brought over a bowl of complimentary edamame. The Agedashi Tofu was just ok, we had better. The Sushi Rolls were all made to order and we can taste the freshness of them. The salmon wasn't dry and they generous with the portion. The Teriyaki Chicken was tender and flavorful. Towards the end of our meal, the waitress gave us complimentary green tea ice cream. The prices are fairly reasonable and they were generous with the portions. Also, the waitress checked on us couple of times. We will definitely be back to try some their other entrees. read more

I love kiya sushi! The fish was so high quality and the under the sea roll was fantastic. We also ordered the sake todo and otoro and it was so delicious. The fish was such good quality. It does get pretty busy around dinner time so I recommend joining the yelp waitlist to secure your seating. Parking can also be busy in the plaza, but there's typically parking available! Overall, love this place and very high quality fish. read more

Great sushi place for vegetarians and all! The service is so efficient and swift. Whenever I go, the place is so busy, but their efficiency helps things move along. They have an entire vegetable roll section which I was very excited about - - so many options that it's a struggle to choose! There's even a dinner combination option where you can get for example vegetable tempura roll plus eggplant roll and it will come with miso soup, rice, salad. I liked a lot of things so I ordered hodgepodge instead of the set dinner combination. First, they brought us complementary edamame - - fuel for looking over the menu! I ordered miso soup, seaweed salad, vegetable, tempura, and spicy tofu roll. The miso soup is always nice to warm up from the cold outside. The seaweed salad is really flavorful greens, but also cold to help cool down my mouth after a spicy bite of something else. The vegetable tempura portion was generous, including carrots, yams, eggplant, broccoli the spicy tofu roll has pumpkin inside and is topped with spicy tofu and eggplant with a spicy creamy sauce. It was so delicious! My husband had a hard time deciding because the menu is so extensive. He ended up getting a chicken Katsu entrée which comes with rice and salad along with a traditional sushi roll. Needless to say we definitely took home leftovers because there were so much food, they even gave us complementary ice cream at the end of the meal. They really know how to make their guests feel special! Always look forward to coming back. The places in a small plaza with parking. Food is good! We've been here a couple times now and its consistent. We like the mango rolls especially and also the beef teriyaki is good. Its nothing crazy but I would say the quality feels better than the stores around the area. The workers are so friendly and kind! They offer a free dessert at the end. Super nice and joyful vibes. Store is casual and clean. Good ambiance! read more
The quality of their sushi rolls/food is definitely worth it. I wish I could remember the names of the rolls my roommate and I ordered but everything we ordered was flavorful. We shared 3 apps and 2 rolls and it was more than enough for the two of us girlies. The service was also great. They weren't too busy but they did keep coming in to check on us and even offered us free ice cream at the end! Kiya Sushi has easily become one of my top go-to spots for sushi. In terms of location, the restaurant is situated in a plaza with ample parking, though the parking spots themselves are on the smaller side, which can be a bit of a hassle. Inside, there are a few tables for parties of two as well as larger tables for bigger groups, giving the space a balanced feel that is neither cramped nor overly spacious. During the few times I have dined here, I have only had to wait for a table once. The restaurant is clean overall, including the restroom -- which is a big plus for me. The quality of the ingredients stands out and is noticeably fresher than most sushi places. I can genuinely taste the difference. The food overall is quite good, and I especially enjoy the dressing on their house green salad. I typically do not care for spring mix, but the dressing makes it surprisingly tasty. I am also a fan of their mussels (not pictured); it is rare to find restaurants that prepare them the way Kiya Sushi does. Whenever I come across a unique dish that is well executed, they earn extra points from me. They also offer complimentary edamame and ice cream, which is a nice bonus. While there are a few items that are not my personal favorites, that ultimately comes down to individual taste. The service is solid as well -- attentive and pleasant. Came for dinner on Mother's Day. There was a lot of people of course. We didn't make reservations and we only waited may 30 to 45 min. Not to bad for a last minute Mothers Day dinner decision. Its a pretty big place though. I wanted sushi and my husband took me here. It did not disappoint the sushi was delicious. We ordered the 30 piece sashimi deluxe for $70.95. It was fresh. My only complain, i wish it came with at least a miso soup or rice. So we ordered rice $1.95, miso $1.95, and salad which i think $5? I forgot the exact amount. My son liked his dragon rolls and my daughter liked her salmon teriyaki. We also got complimentary edamame and ice cream at the end which made the experience even better. read more
Enjoyed our sushi dinner a lot. It's a hole in the wall and parking was a bit difficult. We ate in, but they were definitely doing a brisk take out business too. Service was quick and friendly, and brought our requested extra wasabi. We ordered hamachi sashimi and some basic rolls, and everything was fresh and tasty. The house sake was quite good also. Prices were very reasonable for the area and the complimentary edamame and ice cream were appreciated. If we were frequently in the area, I believe this place would become a go to. read more
