One of our close girl friends was leaving the area for the East Coast, and we decided that going wine tasting was a good way to send her off. Upon suggestion by a member of our group, we made a reservation at Murrieta's Well. It is quite a lovely winery with ample shade and beautiful, comfortable seating. Imagine sitting in someone's backyard enjoying a glass or 2 of wine, small bites, live music, and great conversation. That was our experience at Murrieta's. The winery is very easy to get to, and the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have an excellent experience! So glad I was able to enjoy this place with treasured company. They have plenty of outdoor seating and we were able to get a table without reservations on a Friday afternoon. They have umbrellas so the patio is pretty shaded. The vibe here is very relaxing and service was very friendly. They serve truffle tots now and it's probably the best decision ever - very delicious!! They also have charcuterie and a market platter. Tasting is $30 for 5 tastings and a good mix of white and reds. They're famous for The Whip which is a great white blend. I want to start off by saying Jillian was wonderful. She took her time explaining the wines to us with every pouring. She has that personality that just made us feel welcome. At the end, we asked if we could walk the grounds. She said sure and she could show us the back. I appreciated that she took the time to walk back with us and pointed to what areas were which wines, and even took us a few pictures! 5 STARS for her and I hope you're lucky enough to get Jillian! This was our first visit to this winery. We made reservations online the day before. They ask for a card ahead of time as a hold but they don't actually charge it. The grounds were pretty, lots of shade available. As soon as we sat down, Jillian brought us a welcome glass of The Whip. It was my favorite of 5 tastings. I had looked through pictures and a few recent reviews ahead of time and I thought we'd get flutes like in the pics. Not sure if that was a different type of tasting, but anyways, I liked that Jillian poured us one by one and explained the wines. We've been wine club members at a winery in Lodi for a few years now. So, we were considering becoming members at a Livermore winery instead, because it'd be closer for us. We asked for a pamphlet and Jillian walked us through it and answered our questions. The reasons for my 2 star review: 1. Their food menu options were 2 types of charcuteries + 1 flatbread. NEVER IN MY LIFE had I been denied food that I was WILLING TO PURCHASE. We wanted to order a charcuterie AND flatbread. Prior to our visit, I'd read on here that the flatbread was really delicious, so naturally, I wanted to try it. Above the flatbread there was a note that said, Club exclusive. I thought that meant like, Only-found-here @ Murrieta. I was wrong! Jillian let us know the flatbread could ONLY be ordered by wine club members. I could understand if there was a member/non-member price. It's not like I was trying to get it for free or something. I know she was just following management rules, but this is absolutely horrible to deny people food that they're willing to purchase AT FULL PRICE. This was a complete turn off for my husband and I. We settled on just the charcuterie. It had way too much dried cranberries and crackers, not enough cheese and meat. like 4 little cubes of cheese. The goat cheese was delicious and different because it had citrus in it and also had a different texture than your traditional goat cheese. 2. We were looking through their wine menu options and I noticed they had 1 sparkling wine listed. I asked Jillian about it and she also said, it was only for wine club members and couldn't offer a tasting. I asked if it was sweet, she said no. I'm glad she was honest because I only like sweet ones. 3. The whole time we were seated, 3 staff women would walk by our table w/their noses turned up at us acting like their poo poo don't stink. They were serving another table near us so they walked by pretty often. My husband and I are Mexican and to be honest, those women gave off racist vibes. I felt like our money wasn't as green as the table they were serving and therefore looked at us some type of way each time they passed by. Jillian gave us a tasting of their cab they had on sale. My husband really liked it and we bought a bottle to take home. You're free to run your business as you see fit, but denying folks food, that's just unacceptable and a huge turn off. read more

I was a bit bummed. I am a new wine club member and my friend and I went to check it out since we were in the area. The place is beautiful and the people at the front check-in area were so nice. We were sat right away. I told our waitress that I was a new club member and this was my first time here. She asked me to cancel my membership and open a new one with her. Maybe they work on some kind of commission or something? I am a club member at other wineries and never have been asked to cancel my membership and re-sign up in person. I thought it was odd and I didn't want to since I had already created an account and added my credit card info. She couldn't honor the free tasting that was included with being a club member and didn't offer any sort of discount. I didn't want conflict so we ended up just paying for the 2 tastings that were almost $50 each. I felt that the tasting pours were pretty small and buying a bottle would have been a better option. I wanted to come back in June to pick up my shipment so could customize and my partner could pick a couple of wines, so that's why I didn't want to go home with my wine that day. It was just an odd experience. I will come back next month to retrieve my shipment but hopefully I have a better experience. read more

We made a reservation for 4 on a Saturday afternoon. We found out that no kids were allowed. I don't fault them for this and our fault for not reading the policy. So we had one of our party take our kid to the car while the other three went back. When we went back I hear the lady say to her colleague with absolute disdain she didn't understand why all these people came with their kids and "don't they see how busy we are, we don't have time to be pulling kids out of ponds." At this point t I should have turned around, but didn't want to ruin our outing. We had decided we were going to get a membership before we went because it's so close to our home and liked the wine. The checkin lady told us to step aside and wait for her. She poured us a glass of rose while we waited. The problem was the glasses. I have never been to a single winery where the glasses have murky streak. I'm not comparing to just Napa or Sonoma, not even in local Livermore wineries! My friend asked if she can switch, she rolled her eyes and said the glasses are clean and refused. This was when we decided to not get the membership this time and just do a tasting. We were told to go inside and ask for some lady. The lady seated us. Then we were ignored.... Finally we thought maybe we should just leave. But we didn't know what to do with the glass that was poured so we tried to flag someone down. We were not just ignored by one staff, we were ignored by every single for staff that went past us. We finally just walked out and even that, no one stopped us to ask if we needed help! Okay ... so, Saturday evening. Crowd was not unmanageable... comparatively to even smaller local wineries around the area. Staff making rude comments, being ignored ... I don't care if your wine tastes like heaven. If you like a great one, service and atmosphere this is the one. I went with some of my friends and our server was Rob and he's amazing! He did not fail to check in on us occasionally and walked us through our tasting notes. He explained about the winery and even gave us a bonus wine for tasting. We all got the $30 wine tasting flight, too but there is no option to change the selection with different wines. There were two standard food options, charcuterie board, and seasonal board. We'd like to much on something while we drink so we decided to order both. There were 6 of us so it made sense to get both. The wine tastes amazing and would totally recommend going there for your tasting if you'd like a premium grade wine. The bottle price is slightly on the higher side but it is worth the money. Since we had more tasting to do we decided to just take some bottles home with us. We couldn't say no to great wine. We are members here and have need for more than 5 years. The past 2 experiences were awful. We had a reservation were seated immediately. 20 minutes later the server came by with a bottle of Rose in his hand. We asked for a rose and white wine tasting. I cannot drink reds. Anthony then said "No we don't do that". I know this is untrue. He says there a 2 whites and a rose available. We ask if there's food available. He walks away without pouring the wine. Comes back new bottle of wine we already tasted and did not like. No menus. I ask if we can try the Rose. He leaves again. Comes back with Rose and menus. Pours the wine walks away. Comes back says there's no other white available. We order food. Anthony returns to tell us the kitchen is closed. Then our food arrives. We were doing a wine pick up. We ate and enjoyed the scenery. It is a beautiful winery. Unfortunately we had such good service our first time with Gillian. After this experience I think we will finally actually cancel our membership. It's sad. The staff is not trained well and it makes the experience not good. If everyone was trained and explained the way Gillian did it would be a great experience. Get back to that. read more

We came here on a Sunday noon time on a cold & windy day. The staff is friendly and we had Gail who took care of us while we sipped our wine flights and food. Their wines are fabulous and we enjoyed the Merlot the most. Also we got both the Market and Charcuterie boards and they were yummy! The reason we took away 1 star is because their heaters were not functioning and we all felt really cold, no option for inside seating and a stale reason, covid, of not serving warm flatbreads (has been 2+ years..time to move on). Despite all that we enjoyed our time and thanks to Gail as she was really nice and got us a few additional tastings to share. We decided to come here for my fiancee's 30th birthday party - Erika and the rest of the staff here were absolutely amazing. 10/10 for customer service. I was unsure of the final group size and from the beginning Erika helped me book the best experience possible allowing for a flexible party size. We ended up with a cabana which worked out perfectly for us. The ambience is great, they have live music on Saturdays and the scenery is beautiful. Wine was delicious. We got the extra-large size charcuterie board and two flat bread pizza's which were very fresh and savory! It fed our group of nine easily, we even had a lot leftover. This place just gets better and better. The new wines- the chardonnay, the zarzuela, the merlot, the malbec- are just fantastic! Of course you will be welcomed with the Whip- the wonderful white blend. And the Spur is still around. But that malbec! Wow. Ripe, rich and delicious. I just love the cheese board and the flatbread. Right now the flat bread is a pesto cheese (So good!). Apparently, it's changing in a week or two. Both of these menu items compliment the wines. Even though it's been raining, Murrieta's Well is still a fantastic place to relax on the weekend. The members' lounge is too cold and wet- but the downstairs room is lovely! It's warm and pretty, and the chandeliers are a fantastic touch! And last, but certainly not least, the hosts are wonderful. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. My recommendation? I'm rating this place as a wedding venue. Although I didn't end up choosing it, I still want to give it a shout-out. The biggest downside for me was the lack of dressing rooms. Even though the alternative was renting an Airbnb closeby, it still felt inconvenient. The second downside was wedding can only be held Monday through Friday. With that said, the grounds outside and the space inside were both gorgeous. I especially love the mosiac decor along the stairs from the second level. It would be an great venue for people who live closeby and can arrive ready to party. I believe there are also wine-tasting that opens to the public during the week and on the weekend. read more

Great for wine members because of amazing events these guys host.. and their cheese platter always wins over our guests in the party. What a cute vineyard! I definitely would recommend coming here with a group of friends or on a date with the barn house and outdoor seating. There's a well (hence Murrieta's Well) that's natural and from years and years ago. It's highlighted near the outdoor seating area. I tried their tastings which was really tasty. My ex-coworker and I were walked inside the barn house and upstairs where we stopped at a bar. There were crackers available for us to snack on while we tried the different wines. Our server was really generous and answered all of our questions. She was rich with the vineyard's history, including how it's actually a part of Wente! It makes sense especially with Wente down the street. After our 5 various red and white wine tastings, we went downstairs to grab a quick bite and to catch up. We ordered their vegetarian option platter to munch on and it was so beautifully placed on the wooden slab! And the diversity of fruit, pita bread, and cheese were spot on. First off, the service here is great, and always has been. The 1 star is for the new management and changes happening. We went for a tasting/to pick up our wine shipment today and we were told that food is not available and is being "reimagined under new management." We were also told that live music would not be happening, except for special events. The best thing about Muriettas Well is the full experience- the wine, service, music, and amazing food. People come to Livermore to have the laid back environment, good food/wine, and live music. Please don't fix what's not broken. Muriettas Well is our favorite place to be members at and bring company to. If you kill the food and the music, you are killing the whole vibe. If that is the case, we will reconsider our membership. I loved my recent experience at Murrieta's Well and wish I had been able to spend more time here. I walked in with a party of 4 on a recent Saturday afternoon around 3:30. They typically close at 5, but since they were setting up for a wedding later that evening, all guests had to leave by 4:30. Upon walking in, we were first greeted with a complimentary pour of the Whip, which is a refreshing white blend. They informed us that the tastings weren't available due to the wedding prep, but we could still buy glasses a la carte at another stand. I tried a glass of their sauvignon blanc for $16. I'm not a wine expert by any means, but I enjoy my whites, and it was nice to slowly sip away at it in the Livermore heat while chatting with my friends. It was a little bit pricy though, which is why I'm deducting one star off my review. Seating is first come first serve; They have an outdoor lawn with tables all around it, most of which have umbrellas for sun protection. I wish I had been able to spend more than an hour here. It's a nice spot to come and chill with a date or friends for the afternoon, so I'll have to come back! read more

We are Connoisseur level members. We took a friend to Murietta's Well on Saturday 4/7. We love the wines. Unfortunately, they've made a lot of changes that had just been implemented this past week due to new management. (The staff was wearing Wente branded clothing, so I guess the charm of Murietta's Well no longer exists.) They no longer have food for purchase to enjoy with their wines. They served complimentary cheese and butter crackers, which totally excluded my wife and I as vegans. Our server was a veteran Murietta's Well employee, very nice and knowledgeable. We had an amazing experience here on a Saturday before Easter with Jillian (we didn't have a reservation but there was no issue). I had my 50th birthday celebration here a couple of years ago and had the same amazing service all throughout the planning process until the day of. We were a bit disappointed when we came this time because they don't serve food anymore but of course good service always makes up for the lack of something. I became a member because I loved the wine and the whole experience - food, music, venue, etc. My friends became members as well. However with the new management everything has changed. Members no longer can enjoy the wine release parties...they now charge $40 per person! They said it's because alot of the members make reservations and then they don't show up. So why penalize the members that do show up? They should just charge members who didn't show up. They got rid of the food and wine pairing event as well. As of March they are no longer serving food. Frankly the people that work there are as not as friendly as they used to be. My friends are canceling their membership. Even though I'm a member (as for now) I don't go as often as I used to...the whole experience has changed. I used to praise how wonderful Murietta's Well to my friends but now I don't. read more

Vino! Vino! Looks like I might have to start frequenting Livermore more often. My trip over the weekend to celebrate one of my friend's birthday was a big eye opener... I visited Murrieta's Well a few years back and definitely don't remember it being THIS nice! I vaguely remember the main building and a bunch of land around it...more of a barn room tasting set up. I can easily appreciate the amount of effort and time put into the remodel... However, along with the fancy ambiance comes the higher price tags and gone is the small town local winery feel... The tastings fees are a very Napaish now, at $25 per person! I remember the tasting being $10 or $15 per person...I guess things change. Looks like it's for the better in this case. On to the Wine tasting... We were told to make a reservation since we had decent size party at 8 people. The staff prepared a table for us near the lawn. As soon as we got there, we were served with a glass of White Wine; The Whip, a white blend. Easy to drink, but nothing outstanding. Next up was the Dry Rose; This was a hit at the table. Definitely not sweet, but not too dry either, crisp and refreshing. Perfect summer wine. We actually ended up getting a bottle. We also had the fortune of trying the Muscat Canelli. This was my fave of the day...as I am not a huge White Wine fan. I usually associate any sort of Muscat with sugar on the pallette. The Muscat Canelli surprised me; it had a pleasant floral scent and was light, crisp and refreshing. Brilliant for a warm day. All the Reds were smooth, easy to drink and flavorful. However I can't say any of them stood out to me. I will have to come revisit all of them. I believe the tasting menu included Merlot, Malbec and the Petit Verdot. In order to thoroughly immerse ourselves in the tasting experience we also opted to try some of the bites offered from the kitchen. We got all 3 Small plates from the Patio Menu - Market Fresh Board: I wasn't a big fan of this plate, but that is due to my own personal preferences. The root vegetable theme did not work for me. I didn't think this was a good complement to a wine tasting. I did however appreciate this dish and its uniqueness, and the Cauliflower Hummus was pretty good. I was just not expecting to eat Parsnips, Heirloom Carrots and Celery Roots. - Charcuterie & Cheese Board: What's not to like? Cheese, Meat, Fruit & Nuts complimented with what I believe to be homemade flatbread crackers. My only complaint is...well more like a personal gripe...I wish the Cheese selection included Sharp Cheddars or heavier and more flavorful Cheeses. - Housemade Barrel Bites: Brilliant! This was the best plate of the three IMHO. Inspired by Indian Cuisine; some sort of Naan bread with a Garlic, Cauliflower Humus dip. Great flavor and aroma. Well done Murrieta's Well! We have been loyal members of Murrieta's Well / Wentes for years, but our recent experience was extremely disappointing. On May 23rd, we visited with a large group (10) on 2 reservations. Despite our server confirming that our memberships would cover all tastings, the manager reversed this at the end, demanding we pay for additional tastings. When we asked for clarification, the manager was rude and refused to involve a senior staff member or allow our server to confirm what she had told us. This was a shocking and unprofessional experience, completely out of line with the service we previously enjoyed. Unfortunately, we left feeling very disrespected & disappointed. Fedral law--specifically the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) prohibits restaurants to charge without authorization. Manager charged our credit card $$$ even though we told explicitly we did not authorize the extra charge. We have always liked their wine, food pairings and service - this particular incident can possibly damages Wente & Murietta's well reputation. Hope their management looks at this seriously read more
