He did an okay job...used an electric tuner which I've just never gotten as good a tuning from anyone who doesn't do it aurally. It did sound okay. But really just okay. A good tuning should make you go "wow" once you play it after and this most certainly did not have that effect. He didn't have a very professional setup either. Just a backpack with the tuner and like 2 wrenches from what I saw. Flip flops which he promptly removed. I guess I'm just stuffy but I don't feel like a professional service should be performed by someone barefoot unless its a surf lesson or something. He also, showed up quite late which was frustrating. Granted it was raining heavy at the time and traffic...but still. And there were communication issues from him getting the appointment set up. He said he was late for the appt because of a concert he went to the night before. Which he showed me a video of...it was pretty cool, but not what I'm paying for. The tuning didn't take very long even though it had been a long while since the previous tuning and the piano was really needing some work. Like I said he did an okay job, it sounded okay but far from the top level tunings I've received in the past. He also, played it a lot...I appreciate a tuner who can also play well enough but it almost seemed like he was performing for me or something. Which was odd. He wasn't a bad player, I just didn't pay him the 130 or 150 it cost to tune to hear him play. I actually had to get him to stop and ask if he was finished. He was there much less than hr which also seemed like too short a time to do a really thorough job...I couldn't say for sure but it seemed, cursory. And my piano broke a string less than a week after he was there. That's literally never happened on my workhorse piano. Maybe it was just time and would of happened no matter what, but given that it happened so short after his tuning...I don't know, its suspicious to me. Not saying, just saying. Also, he bent my ear for a while about South American spiritual retreats and such, and astrological values in Japan, which while intriguing enough to me, is again...not what I'm paying for. And he was barefoot. Anyways, like I said he was a pretty nice fellow and did an okay job, but there were just too many things that didn't feel quite right about the whole thing; the communication; the comportment and unfortunately the overall quality of service. Honestly he didn't really seem to have much interest or passion in what he was doing which in my experience is somewhat rare for technicians...Seemed more like an adventurer who occasionally tunes a piano for extra cash. This is quite cool, but I want a technician who is totally invested in their practice. Adam Pryzbla or Nathan Cook are both Austin area technicians who in my experience offer a much superior service all around.

Its important to tune a piano after a move and on other occasions such as: 1- When a piano is not played, the strings will gradually stretch with the passage of time and the piano will fall out of tune. Pianos need regular tuning at least once a year to keep them up to pitch and playing the correct notes. 2- When fluctuations in temperature and humidity occur which cause the wooden parts of the piano to expand and contract, affecting string tension. 3- When a piano is not tuned regularly. Pianos get set in their ways as they age. A piano that hasn't been tuned in a long time will go out of tune again very quickly. Pianos are temperamental and should be tuned at least once per year. I like to think of a piano like a car in that, cars require regular tune ups, oil changes etc. Brian showed up on time, was efficient and gave some great tips on piano care. Most places didn't respond to my request for an estimate and the couple that did wanted me to sign a contract to have the piano tuned every year or pay them a $75 traveling fee to drive from south Austin to Cedar Park. Then I turned to "Thumbtack" to find a piano tuner. Derek was the first to respond. He owns and operates TX PIANOS, and he responded personally. Gave me a reasonable quote on line to tune the piano (which had not been tuned for 5 or 6 years) and replace a broken string. When I asked about travel pay, he said that if he had 2 or more appointments in the same town he did not charge travel pay. It just so happened he had another tuning appointment scheduled a couple of days later in Cedar Park, so he waived the travel pay. He sent me a text to remind me of the appointment. He sent another text with a location tracker to show me where he was when he was on the way to my house. Derek is very personable and easy to work with. Even my big ole' furry Australian Shepherd, who barks at everyone who tries to enter our house, took up with Derek and walked right up to him, allowed a couple of pets, and never barked at him once during the visit. Derek described what he would need to do and completed the job of tuning and replacing the two broken strings in just a little over an hour. The piano sounded great when he finished and it was more "out of tune" than I thought. Due to the age of the piano and the mallets, we talked about performing a voicing to bring back the rich soft timbre the piano had when it was new, 40 years ago. Again, I received a very reasonable price for the service whenever I decide to have it done. He also put me on a "check-in" schedule for every 6 months to see if I have any other needs throughout the year. It was a pleasure talking with Derek about the piano and we even joked around about our playing techniques - or lack thereof! But most of all, he was reliable and honest and an expert at getting my old grand back in tune. I will not be looking for a piano technician again now that I have met Derek. If you need piano repair or just a tuning, you will not be disappointed with TX PIANO.

Overall, my experience was a mixed bag with some definite pros and cons. My appointment was scheduled for 8:30 a.m., which I chose intentionally because this was an August move in Austin and I wanted to get as much done as possible before the worst heat of the day. At 8:06, one of the movers texted to let me know they were having truck problems and would be arriving between 9 and 9:30. They kept me updated, but ultimately didn't arrive and start until 9:30, a full hour after my scheduled time. Unfortunately, losing that hour meant much more of the move ended up happening during the peak afternoon heat I had specifically tried to avoid with the early appointment. They also called when they arrived because they weren't sure where to park, even though I had provided parking instructions in my confirmation email. They arrived in a U-Haul rather than one of the company's branded trucks, which I assume was related to the truck trouble. The two movers themselves were incredibly nice and pleasant throughout the entire move. They took good care of my furniture and wrapped and protected pieces thoroughly. Nothing about the handling of my belongings made me nervous, and I appreciated the care they took. That said, the pace was slower than I expected. For context, this was one person moving out of a one-bedroom apartment, not a family or large household, and I had done a LOT to prepare. Everything was fully packed, approximately 30 reusable moving boxes were staged together for easy loading, I had pre-wrapped some furniture and I even moved about 15 vacuum bags out to the truck myself. My old building did require navigating hallways and an elevator, which understandably added time to the load-out. On the other end, however, the truck could park directly outside my new ground-floor apartment with access through both the garage and front door, so unloading was about as straightforward as it could be. The move ultimately took about 6.5 hours. By the end, the Austin heat and humidity were understandably taking a toll and the pace had slowed considerably. Since I was paying by the hour, I eventually told them to leave some furniture for me to reassemble and some items for me to move into the correct rooms myself because the time and cost were continuing to climb and I needed to stop the clock. This is where I'm a little torn on whether I'd use them again. The hourly rate was considerably cheaper than several other quotes I received, but after a 6.5-hour move, I think the final cost probably ended up being similar to what I might have paid for a more expensive but more experienced or efficient crew. Sometimes a lower hourly rate isn't necessarily a lower total moving cost. Still, the guys were genuinely kind, took good care of my belongings and got everything safely from one apartment to the other. I especially appreciated them powering through a brutally hot Austin moving day. If half stars were an option, I'd probably land at 3.5. I'm rounding up to four because I really liked the crew and appreciated the care they took with my things, but the hour-late start, communication/organization issues and the overall pace would make me hesitant to book again.

So they only loaded the truck, I drove it across country and on the other side the unloaders could not believe how poorly it was loaded. Something as simple as stacking carboard boxes on top of heavy duty bins was missed. (see photos) They put my $60 target stools upside down so the legs were facing upwards and then put my chairs upholstery side down on those legs... they did this for BOTH of my living room chairs... (see photo) They HAD TRIED to put a mini fridge full on the inside on top of a crate and barrel wooden console with tiny thin legs. I made them NOT do that - much to their chagrin - while they walked all over it inside the truck. They ruined approximately $2000 worth of furniture. All in all - I lost more in damages than the loading even cost, got no help afterwards and I am lucky that I escaped with the damage I had - it could have easily been 2x-3x the amount had I let them stack the fridge on top of the other stuff. Probably assumed I went away, but - heres your yelp review.

Not fair, not poor, GOOD, and still got a nonsense explanation that made it clear they either don't value repeat customers or don't know how to apply their own policies consistently. I walked away and found another company (Blackerby) with far better service, better rates, a $125 deposit, and no credit check. The difference was night and day. This company's deposit policy feels arbitrary, their pricing is excessive, and their treatment of customers is flat-out poor. I would not recommend them to anyone. By the way I paid for an entire year of rental upfront with the other company and still paid less than the $600 deposit fee that Strait Music tried to play in my face with.

I have used these guys in the past for broken TVs and they have always provided a delightful customer experience. You have the options of leaving stuff out on the curb but I couldn't do that because of my HOA. Also, last time I had left a desk that someone snatched up from the curb. So I didn't want to waste their time again. Their technology use is pretty awesome and respectfully as a IT guy I appreciate how it makes billing simple and easy. I'm an Apartment Locator and realtor in Austin, TX and there are a certain services my clients often need; washer/dryer rentals, renter's insurance and of course moving companies. Until last week, I referred my clients to another company who had left business cards at our office. However, after my parent's moved homes last week, there is only one company I will be referring clients to, and using myself, and that's Muscle Man. Let me preface this by stating my parents are not the easiest bunch to move. They have a lot of heavy/expensive furniture, tons of clutter and a very valuable heirloom (Baldwin upright grand piano) In the past my father would have his own employees from a construction company he owns move everything for a days wages, and separately hire a local music company in town to move our piano. Something always got broken, "misplaced" and it took days to get done, and would end up costing quite a bit of money. As the move was coming up, I was worried again about the stress and chaos the move was going to cause for them, and casually mentioned it to a friend of mine. He told me about Muscle Man Moving & Piano Experts, and I passed the information along to my parents who were interested because of their ability to move a piano. After two of the employees came over to give an estimate (Mike, the owner and a fellow named Sam) they were impressed with their track record of almost no damage reports, their insurance coverage, and their overall professionalism and demeanor. They decided to hire them and Mike and Sam moved them out last week. They were on time, courteous, careful, and all around complete professionals. What would normally take two days (and 6-7 workers) these two guys had us loaded and unloaded in 3 and half hours. I was amazed at how the speed they moved things but also how cautious and delicate they moved everything. Their price was fare and the tip my parents gave them was well earned. Mike and Sam knew exactly what they were doing and made what is usually the most stressful and hectic part of moving look so easy. My parents tipped them well and they deserved every penny of it. When they were finished I asked Mike for a huge stack of cards because from now on I will only be referring my clients (as well as my friends and family) to Muscle Man Moving & Piano Experts- I've never wrote a Yelp review but I feel obligated to spread the word of these guys after seeing the caliber of their service and professionalism. *Update* My first review was from 2 years ago. I had such a great experience that, when it was time to move again, I called Muscle Man right away. Again, from the moment I called, I got exceptional customer service. This time, my movers were Mike, Blake, and Andrew. Mike called me the day before to confirm my move and he answered all of my questions. I should add that "the day before" was a Sunday - I was very appreciative that he took time out of his weekend to speak with me. On Monday morning, the guys arrived exactly on time, got the job done efficiently, and were very professional. On top of that, Andrew, Blake, and Mike helped me set up my washer/dryer AND put my bed frame together. I will ALWAYS use Muscle Man for my moves, they are impressive every time! Seriously, these guys are like family and deserve huge kudos. Thank you for making my second move a ton of fun! These guys are amazing, so glad I went with Muscle Man! Luke and Phil were the best and made my move very easy. My move was scheduled for 10:30am and Luke called well in advance to let me know that heavy traffic might make them a little late. They arrived at 10:45, no big deal and the call to let me know was very appreciated. They were fast, friendly, efficient, and took great care of my stuff! They went through the added hassle of even helping me rearrange some things and put my TV together in my new place. When I looked for movers to move my one bedroom apartment (on the third floor, a good distance inside the gates) to another one bedroom apartment (again, third floor), I knew the price was going to be expensive and more than I thought would be fair for my situation. I called a lot of people and got decent prices, but still not affordable for me. I get that moving is expensive however, so I resigned to pay the price.Thankfully though, after looking a little bit more, I stumbled upon Mike at Muscle Man Moving. I really wanted to go local for this move also and they fit that bill perfectly. The price that he quoted me was BY FAR the best of all the quotes that I got. The deal was so good in fact, that I was waiting for the other shoe to fall the entire time, but it never happened. These two guys showed up on time, worked their butts off the moment they got there until the moment they got the check and left. He did exactly what he said he would do and charged exactly what he said he would charge. They both were very pleasant the entire time as well (BTW, this move is in July and the temp is up toward 100). As for broken stuff, etc. that was not an issue for me. They didn't break anything, but I have my own opinions about people having movers take the responsibility of moving their most valuable possessions unless they have to, but I digress... I don't leave my electronics in the hands of anyone else. Aside from that, they moved my entire apartment just fine. Simply put, if you're on a budget, don't want to sweat the small stuff, but just have a couple of good guys come into your apartment and move the entire thing for you and not charge you too much, these are your guys. Writing this on behalf of my friend, Jennifer, who is not familiar with posting reviews, but wanted to make sure this crew got the kudos they earned. This is for the Congress Ave. location in Austin,TX . She ordered a 3 man crew to move from a 3 bdrm house, to another house. She received Luke, Ali, and Omar. These guys were professional, polite, fast, friendly, and more importantly, extremely skilled when it came to moving the furniture... navigating door frames and walls, etc. Not once did they bang things against the thresholds or walls. When they placed the furniture, they were very conscientious; they genuinely cared to get it right for her preferences. Moving is so very stressful! These guys made it so much less so; their smiles and good mood was infectious! Additionally, Jennifer has high praise for Christy, who handled her many calls of questions and concerns before the move. She was professional, friendly, and patient. This move was the easiest move of my life with the help of Rob and Christian! Moving help is absolutely worth the money and these guys have the best rates in the area. The quote given was accurate & very reasonable and I actually came out a few bucks under what I expected at the end of the day. They called ahead of time to let me know exactly when in the arrival window they would get to our 3 bedroom apartment and ensured that we were on the same page about best locations to park the truck, and quickly confirmed which belongings were to go in what room upon arrival to the new place when packing up our old place. They are very polite and professional with all the tools needed for the job - wrapping materials, big aggregate boxes, dollies, tools and what have you. My only concern before the move was a bulky king-size bed on the 2nd floor, and they handled that with ease. Altogether, they were incredibly professional, friendly, and hard-working. The full move, which included the loading and unloading location and some furniture disassembly and reassembly, took exactly 4 hours. They made sure to wrap all of my furniture in blankets and/or plastic as appropriate. As such, everything arrived in great condition, and they did a good job of placing boxes and furniture in their designated areas at the new place. I don't even know where to start when it comes to this company and the crew that moved us. Let me start here...Mike the owner came out and gave us an on-site estimate of packing, loading, unloading and unpacking. His knowledge of the ins and outs with moving households was impressive and the patience he had with me when I told him I had questions was a great start for me and my husband, as I asked many. After interviewing many companies we decided on Muscleman Moving. On the first day of our move we meet the crew and I wasn't sure what to expect, but after shaking their hands and giving them a tour I can honestly say they were not just kind, friendly and helpful, but just downright AMAZING. Summer of 2016--just finished grad school and my brother and sister and I loaded up my studio apartment and drove from North Carolina to Texas. It was 3 solid days of moving, hours of loading, and we thought we were being super efficient. Now. Cue my moved to Austin. My siblings were both busy the weekend I was supposed to move into my apartment and I was terrified about hiring movers. My first move solo! Movers are really expensive and you never know what you're going to get when you look online. I went with Muscle Men because they were the cheapest option and had great reviews and hoped for the best. I shouldn't have worried. Not only was Tess super communicative the day before and of the move, I got calls and texts from the driver/movers. My siblings and I thought we were being efficient? These guys were professionals. Unloading and loading only took them an HOUR. TOTAL. Nothing was harmed and everything accounted for. They were patient when I misplaced my driver's license, polite each step of the way, and again professional when it came to moving my belongings efficiently. I hope to stay in my current location for as long possible and I'm not one to accumulate a lot of stuff, but should I ever need to move again across the great state of Texas, I'll do it with Muscle Men! read more

First and foremost, Muscle Man Moving got my business because I sent a quote request on a Saturday, and they responded on Sunday. Every other mover I contacted me got back to me late Monday or on Tuesday. I don't expect a response on a non-business day, but I was impressed all the more because of it. I needed a 7-ft-long, 900-lb square grand piano moved on short notice. Muscle Man coordinated the pickup and drop off with me, accommodating the local pickup time to 7 am so it would fit with my tight schedule. They had the piano thoroughly padded and strapped into place in their truck. We then had to figure out how to move the piano up a floor, using my apartment's "service" elevator, which is actually quite small, only slightly larger than the piano itself. These four guys ended up using a lot of careful, problem-solving man-power to maneuver the piano into the elevator, down the hall, and into my unit without damaging anything. This was a piano move that went waaaaay above and beyond the standard "tip it onto a dolly, roll it inside" piano move. The cost ended up being higher than they'd quoted, but I saw how hard they worked to move my piano without damaging it or apartment property. I was happy to pay anything. Absolutely recommend them, for any move big or small. read more

Furniture and household moved from NJ to Austin area via a 28 foot trailer that was packed by one company and driven by another. The 2nd week of July 2014, I called Muscle Man Moving & Piano Experts in the late afternoon and they were able to accommodate me with 3 movers for the following morning 8AM for 4 hours. They were able to maneuver a very heavy bedroom set (1600 lbs.) through a walkway, entrance door, up a not so accommodating staircase, and through narrow doorways into the MBR. Additionally, we had 2 more bedroom sets, living room, dining room sets, and over 100 boxes. The three movers were excellent and provided top notch professional service with a textbook display of customer service. They cared for our items as if they too had an investment them. They promptly notified me of items that were damaged in the move, and sought clarity upon where we wanted our items placed. Were there any hiccups? Absolutely!!! Too many variables that impacted the day for there not to be any. But these movers' attention to detail, professionalism, and work ethic overcame it all. We were nervous about using movers given we had terrible experiences with prior moves due to them being expensive, taking forever, and damaging our items with no reimbursement for the damages, but Michael and Jordan from Muscleman Moving completely changed our perception on movers. They were so efficient, careful with our belongings, and communicative throughout the entire process that they made moving such a breeze! I've had multiple moving experiences professional movers involved over the years and feel like Muscle Man Moving should be called out for their extraordinary service. From the front office team (Tess and Christi) to the actual moving team (Guillermo and Marcus), I am amazed at how professional, flexible, expedient, and careful this team operates. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this place - if you want a fast, affordable, friendly option, look no further. Honestly, I write few reviews, but reached out to this company to find out where I could post. I had called around to several places for quotes and this is the option that was most appealing. It's not only great pricing, the team was gracious enough to help me make a last minute change with the move date (and they were already booked up). Most importantly, the actual movers knocked out the move from a full 15-foot truck to a second floor apartment in 30 minutes. 30 MINUTES! Completely unheard of! Wanted to take the time to recognize how I was treated in regard to how an unfortunate situation was handled by the ownership team of MM Moving. The original quote for the move based on an inventory taken over the phone was grossly underestimated by the MM Team. This led to the moving team having to put in an entire day for the move (hourly rate kicked in). They handled it very professionally and did not make me feel as though it was my fault. Because of the additional time (hourly rate) needed for the move the quote was almost double the amount. Needless to say, I was very upset and was unsure how my complaint would be handled. Mike and his team handled the situation very professionally and with a high level of customer service. They accepted that there some things they could do differently and were willing to make a reasonable amend to make the situation right. Even though there was some stress experienced, in the end I was very please with the moving team and ownership team. I had a short notice move with one large (850 pound) item and a few nicer items in addition to many boxes. I contacted Muscleman Moving for a quote. I talked with Shane and was impressed with her knowledge and friendliness. I was able to get a reasonable quote after calling many moving companies in the area. I scheduled the move for the next day. DJ and his crew showed up in the first 15 minutes of a 2-hour window, completed the contract paperwork in 5 minutes and started working. The entire job was completed on time as agreed including the large specialty item. As a side note, I experienced a flat tire enroute to the residence and was unable to meet DJ and his crew when they arrived. My wife let them into the residence, I talked to DJ on the phone and gave him my instructions. I arrived home as they were finishing their job and was totally surprised at their speed, efficiency, and attention to detail they accomplished with only telephone instructions. I cannot sing enough praise about these guys! Sam, Luis, and Johnny did an incredible job moving us from one house to another. They were incredibly professional and helpful. They had amazing attitudes all day on a VERY long day! The company was so accommodating. They actually were not our first choice in movers but once our first option ignored our calls for five days a quick google search led us to Muscle Man (let me say that may have been the luckiest search suggestion of my life). These guys were able to schedule our move last minute and then even pushed it a day when the closing of our house was held up. From getting a quick and accurate quote from Tess, to responsiveness to my questions, to their pre-service call to determine a plan of action on moving day, to their on time arrival, to the efficient and careful move of all our items, everyone was the utmost professional and really made what could have been an extremely stressful time, into an experience that I'd recommend to anyone! The guys were on time, polite and personable, quick, and careful with all our furniture. They never balked when asked to put some of our heaviest items upstairs in the new place. I can't recommend these guys highly enough! We have a baby grand piano that they moved perfectly into an apartment. The we're all very professional and had a good sense of humor, which totally set me at ease as moving a 4bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment gave me anxiety at first! They took the 1st load to storage and the 2nd load with our piano to the apartment. They were very timely and hustled to get everything done. It's amazing how they perfectly fit all of our stuff in that 10x20 storage unit like Tetris, with only inches to spare! Definitely glad we called the pros. The damage to my property and the company's lackluster response have left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.
