I Googled "salt and pepper shrimp near me", and Mushroom popped up. Located about on half hour west of my domicile, this Chinese and Japanese fusion restaurant makes one of the tastiest salt and pepper shrimp on the Island. Very few restaurants make it. Just look at how it is presented by viewing the photos below. It tastes even better than it looks. The recipe for this Cantonese dish is simple: shrimp, salt, pepper, cornstarch, scallions, garlic and red pepper flakes. Sichuan peppercorns are called for in Chinese cooking sites, but some restaurants use white pepper instead. Some cooks toast the salt/pepper mixture for heartier flavor. Tik Tok, Instagram and other social media sites are replete with up-and-coming chefs, showing different ways to make the spice mixture. I use it on a lot of foods, especially the meats and veggies that I cook on the grill. When I feel too lazy to make salt and pepper shrimp at home, I drive to Mushroom or to Ha Long Bay (New Hyde Park location) to order it. The only downside is that the service at Mushroom is slow, and there are no soda refills. Zaijian (goodbye in Mandarin), Gail

Beef with Broccoli and white rice. My sister got sesame chicken with white rice and mom got chicken pad Thai noodles. 10-10 the meat was white so delicious we ate everything. Go here if you're going out to eat lunch or dinner. Service was very quick and good. And the place was very cool and decorated nice

My two friends and I visited Mushroom on a whim the other night because we were hungry and wanted to avoid the Saturday rush elsewhere. The food was great--really no complaints here. Hibachi is always fun and the food was tasty. I feel like it's hard to go wrong with noodles, steak, and/or chicken hibachi--all of which tasted fresh. They even gave us extra food when there was some left over! I enjoyed the authenticity of this place the most. I always look out for TsingTao beer which is very hard to find in the area. When I saw that on the menu I knew it was a wrap. Tsingtao is my favorite beer of all time and I knew I was gonna love this place after that.

Izumi Sushi and Hibachi Steak House is a fun night out!…read more I was a plus one to my wife's Christmas party. The space is very large and we were able to have a gift exchange around the hibachi grill. I arrived early and sat at the bar for happy hour. I ordered a pint of beer on tap and waited for everyone to arrive. I'm looking around, this is a very large space. The bar can easily seat 20 patrons. Everyone starts to come in and we're shown to our hibachi area. The menu is substantial and there are lots of combination choices. Brah, steak and scallops all day long! There's one thing about me, I don't participate in hibachi shinanagans. Squirting Sake at me? Yeah.. I'm out. Don't throw shrimp at me, just cook! (I am a fun guy just not a participant) Now the fun begins, pyrotechnics! He makes an onion flame volcano, he cooks a mountain of fried rice and does an egg show on his spatula. The food? The steak is cooked to perfection and the scallops? Mmm mm! At the end of the night, everyone had a fun cocktail, good food and an overall good time. Thank you Izumi Sushi and Hibachi Steak House for a fun night out.

There is some street parking up front but I rather park at the side because you'd have to parallel park right off of the main road in the front. You can either order to take out or eat in as there are a few tables. I'm assuming it was the owners that were taking our orders and they were extremely pleasant and friendly. Even though it was my first time there, I felt like I was treated like family! Being that it was a Saturday, there was a bit of a wait for our food (~15-20 minutes) and were told that they're busiest on the weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and it would be faster if we had placed the order via phone. Noted for next time! While we were waiting for our food, there was a CONSTANT stream of customers coming in so that's a good sign in my opinion. They have a large variety of food items to choose from and you can look at their paper menu by the cashier area. Hubby ordered an Eel Avocado roll and Chicken Teriyaki. I ordered Shrimp Teriyaki. Hubby loved his Chicken Teriyaki (came with a good amount of chicken) and Eel Avocado Roll. I tried the Eel Avocado roll and also agree it was delicious. My Shrimp Teriyaki (12 pieces) came with white rice and some vegetables but the shrimp was a bit on the dry side and could have used more sauce. I didn't realize it until later but we were given 4 small containers of what looked like the teriyaki sauce. In conclusion, even though my shrimp dish was a bit more dry, I'd definitely return to try another of their many food items and also because they're so hospitable!
