The last food safety rating on this place was half a year ago, but since they just reopened last week I'd assume they cleaned up and got fresh fish. I don't know what it was like beforehand, but how it looks now didn't feel like a place that should be handling raw fish. It looked clean and the interior was nice, but for some reason there were no customers (or even takeout orders) at peak dinner hour. At first glance the fish color looks healthy and the cuts were ok, but it ended up being very chewy and tasting super fishy. It tasted like it came out of a market and not one of Uwajimaya's quality. The salad greens were red and rusty, another sign that the food is not fresh. After all that, I didn't have much of an appetite. I didn't want to risk the food poisoning so I tossed it after eating a few pieces. California roll is great, though lacking in mayo. I'd eat cooked foods here, just not raw fish. I do want to like the place but there were just too many red flags. read more

Love this little addition to our neighborhood. Stopped by for lunch and was very impressed. Although small and it has a "to go" vibe, the quality and freshness rivals many sit down places in Seattle. The katsu was perfectly crisp, curry was perfect, even the white rice served had a nice texture and flavor. Udon soup was clean yet rich and flavorful. Salmon nigiri was VERY generously cut, fresh, and melt in my mouth. The chef was very kind to us. Clean tables. Sushi is fine, average. This place is depressing. Although someone is at the cash register in an empty restaurant you still need to order from an electronic touch screen. No communication with anyone, no place to sit while you wait, no in-store dining, sterile. It has the ambiance of a place you'd get an oil change or wait for your dry cleaning. For a stop and grab-type sushi place, it just doesn't feel like the right location other than the bus stop out front. This neighborhood needs little stores/restaurants that are warm and welcoming. Chirashi bowl is good, lots of fish and good quality like someone else mentioned. Ramen isn't as great- noodles have a really good chew, but since everything is to go, the dried seaweed gets soggy (even though it's in a separate compartment with the noodles separated from the broth) and there are no veggies really, just green onion and a fully cooked egg, not an ajitama soft-boiled egg, though that's what they're going for.. just get the sushi or chirashi bowl, unless you do like your ramen with no frills, in which case it does taste good and spicy (got the volcano one). Forgot to mention that there is no seating inside, even though there is a bench bar looking thing, but the server says no dine-in, so we just sat at the bus stop, which IMO is a perfectly placed stop, with a two person bench just outside the door to Muto. First time here with my daughter as we each got a bento box for lunch (Ebi, Salmon). Very good quality and a nice guy in the kitchen who was very welcoming. Primarily a take out place but a few places to sit down at the counter. Ordering was done on a screen and very efficient, similar to what you would see in Japan. Limited menu (compared to their Lynnwood location) but they have pretty much everything I generally eat anyway. From Tonkotsu Ramen and Bento Boxes to Sushi and Ramune. I think I've found our nice neighborhood Japanese place that I would eat at anytime! read more

We were going weekly... walking in to pick up sushi or ordering lunches/dinners to pick up. But then they got rid of the little counter seats at the window and the one table. When the weather was bad, my daughter and I liked to walk over and eat before wandering through the bookstore. Or at least sit and chat while we wait for our food. It feels less welcoming now. It was okay...my complain is rice. Mush in a poke bowl, and rolls were covered with mushy glue like rice tightly rolled. It was hard to eat.

New Japanese spot in the neighborhood, I've been here a couple of times already - very small mostly takeout (though they do have a small counter and stools at the window if you want to eat in), but everything is fresh and delicious! There is grab and go in the case, but I also ordered a karaage bowl and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. Excited to try their ramen when the weather gets colder! Small Japanese counter service spot (where you place your order at the counter and pay up front). This is not really designed for dine-in, though they do have a few stools. Not bad for a quick bite or a to-go/pick-up order, but I wouldn't bring friends here for dinner or anything. You don't even get a glass of water in here (they have water bottles among the other drinks you may pick out in the open cooler on the side). They have a variety of dishes, but only one ramen entree (with spice level being the only mod: +$1 for "spicy", +$2 for "very spicy"), which is what I ordered. It was ok, nothing mind-blowing. Although I was dining in, it still came in a to-go container and with the tiniest plastic spoon (which I found slightly disappointing). Food is very good. Chirashi was great and had lots of high quality fish. It took 1 hour 24 minutes from the time I ordered online to when they actually finished my order. I do not recommend until they get more staff or more organized otherwise. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. We got the regular ramen bowl, which was very solid and improved with a bit of extra soy sauce and sriracha. Loved the pickled ginger. I also got a spam musubi, which was the best I've had outside Hawaii. You need to pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds, but it was terrific. Will be back to try their bowls. read more

Tucked behind Zeek's off of the corner of 44th and 196th is the small restaurant Muto. Inside is dimly lit and somewhat modern decor, though it gives a "done on a budget" feel. My wife went on a Wednesday night, and we ordered Nigiri combo B, Shrimp Shumai, soft shelled crab, and the tempura combo. The combo came with miso soup and salad. The nigiri was fresh, well cut, and well seasoned, and the sushi rice was well prepared. The spicy shrimp roll that came with the combo was a bit mushy and the sauce on the roll was a bit too heavy with toasted sesame oil. Our food arrived quickly and the servers were attentive and gracious. The tempura was disappointing--the pieces were not fried enough or in hot enough oil, so they were not crispy, and the batter was soggy. The miso soup was tasty, and the salad was nice except the dressing was too heavy and sesame-flavored. What turned us off the most though was the smell inside the restaurant. It had a burnt-curry and old fry oil smell pervading the place. Though it had some good points, we will not go back. There are better options nearby for sushi and ramen. read more

Had their takoyaki and miso soup. 10/10! Would recommend! The takoyaki was nice a soft inside with bits of octopus that wasn't too chewy. Had all the yummy sauces and toppings on it. They also have a bunch of Japanese drinks which were so cute. read more
