My Favorite Deli... more like my least favorite deli lol. I ordered the farmers burrito in a bowl and an iced latte with oat milk. It was a delivery that took more than 30 minutes to arrive, so that might have contributed to the subpar quality of the food, but I doubted how much better it would have been even if it were fresh. I couldn't make myself finish either the burrito bowl or the coffee. The farmers burrito bowl is a mix of meat (sausage, bacon, and ham) with hash browns, eggs, and your regular burrito fillings in a bowl. The hash browns threw me off the most - they were completely pale and soggy, which made me question if they were even cooked. There was a generous portion of meat, but the bacon was very burnt. The eggs were definitely overcooked as they tasted super rubbery. Since the iced latte was fine, I bumped this place to a 2/5 but overall did not enjoy the food. read more

Probably won't be returning short of a refund and an apology. Background With my prior experience being a positive one, 2 years ago, I feel it necessary to comment on my recent experience at My Favorite Deli. Specifically, the quality, time, and overall apathy demonstrated by the current staff. A few things to get out of the way, 1. they did vocally apologize but didn't volunteer any concessions. 2. My order was pretty straightforward and shouldn't have taken as long as it did. 3. I know for a fact my order was at least one person ahead, because they were provided a meal before mine. For the first-time visitor, consider this as a takeout stop. There are a few seats, but little else regarding accommodations. If you choose to hang out, know that you will only be in the way if you aren't seated. Review Breakdown -1 Additions no discounts. Despite the omission of egg, because they pre-make their eggs for breakfast, I received no discount. -2 Quality. After witnessing several people behind me getting their meal, I noticed the sandwich wasn't toasted, was microwaved twice (once for the protein and once it was all assembled), and overall didn't feel like a $6.50 sandwich. Sorry, but not only did they fail to toast the sandwich, but they also microwaved my protein twice. Once in the beginning and again as part of the sandwich. -1 Service. As stated earlier, I ordered ahead of at least one person and yet that person was provided a meal before mine. Their meal, a breakfast burrito. My meal, an eggless English muffin, with cheese and turkey. Already they know who the person is that's writing this review. After seeing several people who weren't in the store when I placed my order, receive their order. Now, I can't be 100% be sure most didn't order their meals online. But the one who received their burrito ordered theirs in person and yet they still got served before mine. Additionally, when asked why an English muffin, with cheese, and turkey, took longer to complete then a farmer's breakfast or a bagel with lox (ordered after my order), I was met with confusion. Stating it was three ingredients (e.g. English muffin, cheese, and turkey) I only received an apology. Throughout the experience, the faces I saw were more confused why I was concerned than understanding. +1. Previous experience. In the past, I have always enjoyed my visits to this location. But that was several years ago. In the interest of time, I didn't negotiate any solutions to my negative experience. Mostly because the looks on the faces of the employees made me believe my serious tone wasn't appreciated. It's unclear they would have the authority to provide a solution beyond an apology. We ordered sandwiches for lunch and 2 of the 3 were wrong (I wouldnt care Ill eat anything thats good). HOWEVER my gf came back to have it corrected and the lady and owner were incredibly sincere and kind! We got cookies as well and theyre warm, homemade, and DELICIOUS. Mistakes happen but its definitely how staff handles it that is what's important. Customer service is top notch and will come back again! BLT was just how I dream of. A friend took me to this place because they heard it was really good and I can't help but agree. The sandwich I got was a deli club which comes with a pickle spear. The service was really nice and quick! In and out in no time. Hours are 6:30-2:30 which are pretty nice. Got this on the way to a mariners game which was super convenient. I'd definitely recommend this place if you want a quick bite to eat on the go or if you want to sit down and eat! Will definitely try to make my way back. read more

I've worked in U-District for a couple of years now. This was once my preferred bagel and lunch spot. Unfortunately, the quality of food and service has taken a dive recently. This morning, I asked for an everything bagel toasted twice, with cream cheese. The response I got was 'it's going to be burned". I responded "can it just be crispy?" Sure, it's cheap, but they do not dial in their espresso machine, do not weigh their grounded coffee, shots are over extracted, and they let their shots sit on the counter forever before adding anything to it. I love things that are exactly what they purport to be, and in being so honest actually create a product that chain stores can't touch. This is one of those places. Tully's, Starbucks, Specialties, Subway and the like are too busy trying to figure out how to not pay their employees a livable wage to care about the customers. To them we are cattle to be milked. I love this place, and I am so glad it's across the street from my work! Whenever I am unable to bring breakfast from home, I make sure to stop in to perk up! What initially drew me in was the handdrawn sign stating I get a free coffee with the purchase of a breakfast sandwich! Awesome! I love coffee, especially when it is free! But what keeps me coming back is just how DELICIOUS their breakfast sandwiches are! I get the BLT & Egg sandwich on a bagel. The bagels are toasted & warm, but still super soft & delicious. I have gotten it on a english muffin once to save 50cents, and although that is still good, the bagel upgrade is definitely worth it! Side note on the "ambiance" as others have mentioned. Yes, the man is Christian, yes he has Spirit 105.3 playing (not "blasting"), yes, he has a small sign next to the register (no on it), but please, even if you are Atheist, don't let that turn you away from this place. Like a lot of places, My Favorite Deli (a misnomer) features a trivia question pasted to the register as a fun little diversion while you're waiting for your sandwich. In this case, however, the question is not designed to test your knowledge of Middle Eastern capital cities or South American rainfall in exchange for a free shot of espresso. Rather, it concerns your very soul ... a soul the owner of the deli feels should belong to Jesus. After ordering a simple breakfast sandwich, I made the mistake of glancing at the scrawled register sign that read: "Are you in control of your life?" The grinning owner noted this and asked me if I believed that. Sensing a trap, I replied that: Yes, in fact, I did believe I controlled my life as who else was there, really? He then unfolded the "punchline" part of the sign which read: "And how's that going?" I replied that it was actually going pretty well, thank you, and that I could see what he was getting at and I didn't really want to hear about how turning my life over to Christ would solve all my problems. And the sandwich wasn't very good, either. Soggy white English muffin, bland cheese, and limp bacon. I could have made better at home, and will from now on. A very basic deli, which is exactly what it purports to be. Had a half turkey/bacon sando with a cup of clam chowder, and both were eminently satisfying. Solid sandwich selection, and extremely friendly service. Only complaint is that they didn't toast my bread, nor did they ask me if I wanted it toasted. I guess I just assume that it's OBVIOUS that EVERYONE wants a toasted sandwich, but maybe not. Heard a guy later ask for his toasted, and it didn't seem like a problem, so just remember to ask! Since I often need to pick up a fast, convenient lunch, I'm normally pretty quick to try new sandwich places in these parts, but I hadn't stopped by this little deli until today. I guess I've been thinking of it as 'that hot dog place that keeps changing owners', and didn't realize that they're now entirely focused on sandwiches. 'Friendly fast filling fantastic' said a banner by the entrance. I went inside to put these claims to the test. 'Hello', said the lady at the sandwich counter. 'Hello', said the guy coming out of the back room, chewing his own lunch. Friendly, check. I checked the menu. Turkey and swiss, ham and havarti, etc. etc. There was also an interesting-looking specialty sandwich menu, for people looking for something more exciting than a ham and cheese. Most sandwiches were in the $5 region. I went with a California Club -- turkey, bacon, guacamole, and the default veggies. I found a newspaper and skimmed the headlines as I waited. "Musharraf lays out terms of comeback." Tee hee, that Musharraf. I had to turn to page A3 to find out what the terms were, but before I could do so, I heard the cheerful sandwich guy call out my California Club. Fast, check. Not Jimmy Johns fast, but not dicking around either. So, how'd the sandwich do on the filling-and-fantastic-o-meter? Well, it was a reasonable portion for a light weekday lunch. Decent bread. Non-specific turkey. A little heavy on the mayo. I wouldn't call it 'fantastic', but I had no complaints. Ask anyone else who works in UW Tower -- this is truly OUR favorite deli. I've looked at several of the negative reviews for this place, and it seems like they came from folks who stopped in once for a quick order and have never been back. Yeah, there are things I would probably change if it were my own place -- I'd do away with the Christian references, I'd maybe improve some of the ingredients, and if you come during the lunch (12-12:30) or breakfast (7:45-8:15) rushes, you may have to wait a bit. But any of those complaints are trivial when you realize that this is a place that serves really, really good food, run by one of the kindest gentlemen in the Pacific Northwest. No matter what you order, no matter how bad a mood you're in that day, you're going to get a great meal and service with a genuine smile. And that's exactly what I want. The previous owner sold the deli 6 months ago or so to a woman who has overhauled the place and made it much better. We stopped here for breakfast while on vacation. I got a breakfast sandwich and my wife a breakfast burrito. The sandwich was on the dry side with a flat pancake of scrambled egg and couple of thin slices of bacon. No lettuce or tomato.
