She answered all the questions I had about the menu and even customized my order for me. The food was SO GOOD! Came in for the first time last night. Owner/chef/cashier/do-it-all man was very nice and accommodating. We ordered the rebel which came with 1lb of catfish nuggets, choice of fillet (we got the snapper), 4 shrimps, and 2 sides (got the lobster Mac and French fries). This is definitely enough for 2 hungry people! The catfish was delicious - crunchy on the outside, flavorful, fresh, and hot inside. The shrimp was good too. The snapper was ok. I don't think it was the freshest in the bunch. I'll have to try another fish. Overall for the seafood: the cornmeal made it really crunchy and the seafood was not oily! It was a bit on the salty side though. French fries - husband loved them. They're the non-crunchy type which works well since the seafood is already crunchy. The lobster Mac was good too. I was turned off the moment I walked in. The owner was closing down and gave me attitude when I opened his door to pick up my Yelp24 order. He looked at me and assumed I was a Grubhub driver and was really grumpy, rude and unwelcoming. I told him I placed an order through Yelp24. Next will be the salmon. That cobbler tho! I especially like that he uses cornmeal to fry with and not flour. The fish and shrimp have the right amount of sweetness and crunch from the cornmeal. I really wanted to like it. Having been born and raised in Houston, I've had (and made) some of the best seafood in the Gulf Coast. But my expectations were not that high. I was just glad that a fish shop had opened so close to where I live. I ordered The Catch with hushpuppies, a large order of Crack Chips, a large order of Collard Greens and one lb of shrimp. Let me start with the positives. The chips are delicious, as a matter of fact, I bumped this review up to two stars because of them. Also, the shrimp were a nice size, not the scrawny shrimp they have at other places. But things don't get better from there. The breading is typical cornmeal, very crunchy and not too greasy, but man!!.... it was WAY TOO SALTY!!! The catfish nuggets were overcooked, they were rubbery. When I make catfish nuggets at home, there are corners that fry up too quick and get tough. I cut them out and leave them for broth, I never serve them. As for portions, the total was $50 for 3 people. I was expecting more food. The chips were two handfuls, the container for Collard Greens was not full. That was $8 each. My shrimp was not 1 lb, it weighed 12 oz. And before anyone starts with, "that is precooking weight", frying doesn't diminish weight. The greens were so salty my teen boys dissed them saying dumping a bottle of Zatarain's seasoning in a pot of collard greens doesn't make them taste better. And I have to agree with them, I taught them well. I waited a while to order from this place. I saw some negative reviews here, including one that led me instead to the Fishbone in Tarzana. I like supporting small businesses, so I think I will be driving out to Tarzana next time I don't want to cook my own fish. read more

It started to all taste the same after a while. I wished they were all cooked using different corn meals. The batter itself lacked flavor. Didn't rally wow me. But if you want your fish & chips fix, then this place will do the job. My favorite item was the shrimp & chips. The chips reminded me of Kettle chips that you buy at the store. The shrimp was big and plump. The Cole slaw is made with horse radish, so it will definitely clear any stuffy nose you may have.
