I had breakfast at My Mom's after stumbling across it on Yelp. The fact that it was only a few blocks from the hotel was an added bonus. I walked in looking to be seated, not realizing right away that you order at the counter first. The cashier was nice and helpful. I came in carrying a bottle of water--after paying, I realized he'd charged me for it. Instead of making a fuss, I just grabbed a cold one from the beverage cooler and rolled with it. It took about 15 minutes before my name was called to pick up my order. I went with the pancake breakfast--three pancakes with fruit, an egg, and your choice of meat (bacon, ham, or...bologna--which feels like a bold, questionable life choice, but I digress). The food was good except it wasn't hot--more like lukewarm-ish. That surprised me since I grabbed it right when my name was called. Maybe it sat while my colleague's order caught up? Who knows. Overall: good atmosphere, decent food. Walking out, tho, my immediate thought was wondering why My Mom's ranks so high in Yelp recommendations. I won't forget the surprising juxtapositions of the Bowl of Love, or the friendly vibes, including when my internal monologue about decoding restaurant menus went external. The red chile is a standout on its own; there's heat but much more than that. The Bowl of Love in which it appears is a structural wonder. Not sure how they do it but presumably science is involved. The other components - fideo, beans and squash - should be sampled on their own at first but at some point blending is inevitable. After judging a goat show for the Bernalillo county 4H we decided to try My Moms for brunch. We have wanted to try it for a while. We were greeted right away by a real nice lady and told to look at a menu before ordering at the counter. Lunch started at 10:45 and we were a little early for it, but wanted to try the breakfast. My husband ordered the Big mama biscuit with sausage. It had a green chile gravy that had a tasty flavor. It was not spicy but but he said it was delicious. My first visit to this establishment was on May 27, 2025. Is it a nice location downtown with adequate nearby on street parking. The outside signage is a little bit subtle, and you may have a hard time finding it on your first visit. But once you find it, you'll be glad you did and you will be back. I guarantee it. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There's good natural light. The decor is colorful and interesting with lots of creative painting on the table tops. My Mom's does everything right: the service was kind and quick, the reputation is amazing and the food was very local and authentic. The Green Chile in the bowl was some of the best I've had and the enchilada dish was very cool, lots of flavor with the egg being a nice touch. New place in downtown Albuquerque just opened in 2022. Hard to find unless you are looking for it. At the bottom of an office building, with no big signage. Big open area with large windows floor to ceiling. You order at the counter, paying for the meal, and tipping, ahead of time. Customer picks up the utensils, gets plastic cup for filling with water and ice, and come back to the counter to get their plates of food. Wife's $10.50 red enchilada was a big portion of cheese enchilada covered with red chili sauce, and an egg. Passed with flying colors, something not easy considering she lived in Santa Fe for 18 years. My $10 lazy tacos came with ground beef, shredded cheese, and red chili sauce. Very spicy. Like a beef patty cut into half for each of the two tacos. The tortilla was fabulous in texture and taste. After you are done, you have to bus your trays. We found it! After a couple of trips downtown we figured out where it is. Of course the recent window sign painting helped. Lunch rush in progress but not so busy that we had to wait to sit. Order at the counter - NM Patty Melt for me and the Flauta Plate for the Mrs. The Patty Melt was tasty, plenty of cheese, onions & green chile. The Flautas came 4 to the plate. It was topped with pico de gallo, crema, salsa & guac on the side. It was equally tasty. Both registered on the moderate side of heat. The flautas a little more so. Prices were reasonable about $11 each. Parking is an adventure. It's downtown so when you find it it's either metered or private lot. I've been meaning to visit My Mom's for a little while. The timing finally worked out and I'm really glad. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by all-star chef and owner Marie and handed menus. After some deliberation, I chose Chata's Chicken Fried Chicken and dh got the New Mexico Patty Melt. They were out of fries so we were offered fideo as a substitute. My goodness, what delicious food. My sandwich was amazing - super flavorful chicken fried chicken breast covered in a fantastic green chile milk gravy on two slices of sourdough. This is definitely a knife-and-fork meal, and it almost doesn't need the top slice of bread. The chile had a little bit of a kick, but thankfully it wasn't so hot that I couldn't eat it. My husband really enjoyed his patty melt, topped with cheese, caramelized onions, and green chile. I enjoyed my bite and would be happy to order it again. And that fideo, wow. Pure comfort in a bowl. I had grand jury duty this past Thursday and needed a spot for lunch nearby. I walked to My Mom's. First of all, great name. The service was so welcoming. The person behind the register was friendly and helpful. I asked what they recommended and they said their favorite was the red chili enchilada. Over the years I'm enjoying red chili more than green so I went with that and an over east egg. The chili was spicy but a good amount of spice. It was a flavorful dish and I ate most of it and I didn't suffer from too much spice. I also had a slice of the coconut cake! Wow! It was tasty!! The cake was moist and the frosting was excellent! So the first time we tried coming here we couldn't find it and after driving around the block several times, we gave up. Glad we were able to find it this time (NE corner of Roma and 4th). SO many choices that all sounded amazing. Settled on the flautas. Drinks are in a cooler as you walk in. You order up front and they call your name when ready. Very small area but clean, well decorated. Super friendly staff. Looking over at the lady's food next to me, almost thinking I should've gone with the french toast (making mental note to get that next time). Food came out quickly. Flautas are crispy and are definitely (what my friend would affectionately say)...not white girl spicy. Nice mix of crema and salsa with diced onions, tomatoes and lettuce on top with a side of guac that helps temp down the spice. I highly recommend them.
