First of all let me start that the experience I had looks like the norm since it happened while I was waiting to another couple. Went in to get just a snack and it turned into a fiasco. My friend ordered a chicken curry wrap and the lady she ordered from when I tried to place an order along with the rest of the staff kept walking past me and did not even acknowledge my presence. So I left to get a slice of pizza and came back 20 min later and my friend was still waiting for a simple wrap. I asked her what is going on and she said the other couple left after complaining of no service for 30 min. To top that off the girl who was dressed up that had helped her had left and I saw tickets by the cash register and another woman picked up one and told my friend her order will be up in a momemt. After she got it, all it consisted of was some steamed rice, chicken curry and a regular flour tortilla. The lady had the nerve to ask did she pay fir ir. My friend told her if she didn't she wouldn't still be her waiting for it. The "wrap" was so bland and had so little chicken in it. I hate to give this place even one star for the service and the so called quality of the food. read more

Theyre going up in ranks for me. Decided to order again and give them another shot. ~The Soup was hot this time, although a little bland. ~Salad had better lettuce (a few pieces were spotted), shredded Carrots and Salad Dressing that was pretty good (a vinaigrette of sorts). ~Egg Rolls.. cant really mess those up. ~ Salmon, was a thicker cut which I liked compared to last time, but wasnt cooked all the way, it was "fresh fish" "hot" pink on the inside, not dull cooked pink. ~Still 12$ ~Still had to leave and come back due to it not ready in 20min when they said 15. ~ Counter girl was super friendly. I'm a little iffy. Ill give them another shot later on and see if they will continue to improve. read more

I cannot comment on the service, given that I walked in and ordered take out. But when I got home and opened my Pad Thai I was very frustrated to see one block of hard, squished noodles. The type of consistency when you forget to stir the bottom of a pan of noodles and they burn and melt together to form one solid, inseparable block. I'm guessing this is exactly what happened and they just scraped it off and threw it in a "to go" box. With optimism I took a bite to taste the blandest tasting pad Thai I have ever had. I imagine the only reason this "restaurant" is still in business is because the drunks from the beach vomit up all their cash while passing from the bar. DO NOT GO HERE read more

I've been going to Capitola all my life and never tried this place until today! It was a stormy day so we, my toddler, baby and I, easily got a window seat. We loved watching the stormy sea and all the birds. We also loved the food! Delicious Pad Thai. My favorite part of our experience was the gal who worked there. She was so kind and friendly! It was fun to see her interact with Jr. High kids who came in from after school. We will definitely be returning when in Capitola. read more

It's a hit or miss. The appetizer we ordered was way under expectation. It's the bbq calamari. There was just like 7 small pieces of them on a bunch of cabbage. Looked as if a full dish but way over priced for what it is. (7.99) Tasted not that good either :( The Thai Basil on the entree menu however turned out great. The service was excellent. read more

Great place, 4 of us came in ordered beef Pho, Pad Thai, Pumpkin Curry,Tempura Prawns and Pineapple fried rice. All of it was amazingly good....the rice was the best I had ever had, the Pad Thai was super flavorful, and the Pumpkin curry dish WOW. the fried rice is served in a hollowed out pineapple half with scallops, prawns, scallops just the best. The service was great the server was very helpful and explaining the food. Great view of the Warf and the beach.....I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. read more

"While I was waiting for my cousin to meet me at the Art & Wine festival I decided to get a snack. When I was seated the place was busy but it looked like everyone had already ordered there food. I ordered Fresh Spring Rolls $6.99 with Salmon added for an additional $2.00. It took 25 minutes from the time I ordered to recieve my food. The spring roll weren't very good, mostly lettuce and carrots. There was hardly any salmon and what was there looked like crumbles. I posted a picture of them so you can see how unimpressive they were. I've had good food there in the past but its always hit and miss. read more

Food and taste is unique, and at nice beach location

We come here for the hot and sour soup. It is awesome. We have had some of the other dishes there and they were average for what I am used to compared to Basil Canteen. But the soup at this place is awesome. The service is not that good. In fact we have only dined in once and although there was only one other table in the joint it took the staff 15 minutes to greet us with menus. She was on the phone when we walked in and and motioned for us to sit at the table and then just forgot about us. And it does take a long time for the food to come out. That doesn't really bother me though as long as I'm greeted quickly and given a beer so I can sip and chat. But that didn't happen for us. All in all I think the food is good for what it is and where it is. If we call in from my parents house and leisurely stroll down Depot Hill the soup is usually ready by the time we get there. You can then share your soup looking out to the ocean in beautiful Capitola with your loved one. Pretty darn good. read more

This place is as authentic as it gets. The cuisine at My Thai Beach is fresh and well flavored. Upon request, they will even prepare the menu in a traditionally "Thai Spicy" style, versus the american "spicy" you often get at other establishments. They are very warmhearted people, with fabulous customer service... as most Thai people are. We make trips from San Jose over to Capitola just to dine here. read more

Hands down the best authentic Thai food in Santa Cruz (and I eat a lot of Thai food!). I always feel like family when I come to eat here, they are so friendly and the atmosphere is great. Simply amazing, this is our favorite place in Capitola. Food is too good and the place has a perfect beach view. It is a place run by family, they always greet you with a smile and great service. As others have found out: the food at this place is actually good (we tried main dishes only). The problem is the service: extremely slow. It took 25 min. just to have a Thai ice tea. Minus one star for their gratuity policy: 18% for parties of 4 (!!) or more. This is unacceptable. read more

Lunch for two on a drizzly December Friday. There was one other table (another twosome), but it still took a while for the drinks to arrive. The water was brought early but one glass had nasty residue in the bottom. We ordered drinks first - one hot sake, one cold sake - but didn't get them until after the soup. The hot sake was as expected, and the cold sake was the same sake served lukewarm with an accompanying goblet of ice. Not what I'd expected, but adequate. The entree - I ordered the pumpkin curry and asked about the appetizer ("is the wrap from rice paper or wonton?") was told "rice." I mentioned that I'm gluten free and can't eat wheat products but the server nodded and moved on... Lo and behold, the other couple also had a gluten free patron who asked "is this a rice wrap?" when her plate came, was told yes and she bit into it and immediately realized NO. I realize a lot of restaurants don't know how to handle gluten free but to lie (or be ignorant) about the main ingredients is offensive. My partner had the lamb dish and said it was good. He could taste soy so it was good I didn't go for that (who knows if it was tamari or regular)! If you have no dietary restrictions and don't mind slow service or dirty water, this place is ok. But I wouldn't recommend it. read more

I have eaten at My Thai Beach several times. The food is always excellent and delicious. Each dish is prepared fresh and served quickly. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. The prices are a real value, especially considering the location. Everything in Capitola Village is expensive, with the exception of Pizza My Heart and My Thai Beach. Their prices are the same or lower than other Thai restaurants in Santa Cruz, where there is only a road for a view, while the quality of the food is generally better here. I was very impressed to learn that this little restaurant puts on its own float every year in the Capitola Begonia Festival. Decorating a float with all those flowers is a lot of work, but it shows their dedication to Capitola Beach. read more

We dropped in because Margaritaville had flooded, and were really happy we did. I am really in shock at the poor reviews here, we had a great experience, with really good food. I am local, and love Thai food - and was not disappointed in the least. The waitress was a Britney-clone, but really attentive, sweet and quick.I overheard her say her mom was in the kitchen... Our meal was served after a short wait, and was really well presented and everything was fresh. We will go back and try them again - and I will update this review. This is a charming dive Thai on the beach, exactly the kind of Thai place you'd expect in the Santa Cruz area. As far as beach food goes, it's five stars - the food is amazing, you can get it less spicy if you plan to hit the water, and you should be able to get the window seat and watch the waves while you eat. That's the part that worries me - I can usually walk in and get the best seats and get my food fast - please go to this place so my favourite Thai place stays in business!! The bars around it have great drinks but this place is a solid start or end to a beach day. read more

Amazed at some of the reviews of this place. Really 1 star? The host was really nice and friendly. Treated us like family and kept coming back to make sure that everyone was happy with their meal. The host found out it was my cousins birthday and gave us free fried banana's and ice cream to share for 7 people! The food was yummilicious! We live up the hill from these guys, and they're really pretty good. The people who own and run the restaurant are very welcoming and the food is good for the price. It seems to be family owned because the same people are there everytime, so when it gets really busy... sometimes they have a hard time keeping up. Hard to fault them too much for that. Also, they view and location are pretty hard to beat at sunset. It certainly is not a one star joint... it deserves a look. read more

Many of the other reviews describe our experience: fabulous food, bumbling service. Overall a good experience for us. It's narrow space. Two tables for two fill the width of the restaurant by the windows overlooking the beach. Primo tables if you can get them. We didn't but still had nice views as we waited for our food. Our waiter was friendly but, well, bumbling. Enough of that. Great food. We had two versions of their spicy Thai salad and they were excellent. A nice mix of crisp fresh and lightly blanched vegetables on greens with a mildly spicy, very flavorful dressing. Two salads between the four of us was a nice starter. When it eventually came. But that was Ok because by then were chatting with the two guys at the table next to us. We had three curries. All were excellent. We ordered them spicy (you can specify your desired degree of heat for many menu items) and found them flavorful and not close to overwhelmingly hot. Our table favorite was the pumpkin curry. We weren't in a hurry so the service wasn't an issue for us, especially since it wasn't like our waiter was rude or ignoring us. He was just busy and kinda overwhelmed. Another plus is that this place is a good value. Our delicious entrees were $13 - $16. In short, if you have time this is a good place for a tasty meal. Better service and I'd give it 5 stars read more
