This is a review for My Thai Cowboy Bento in the alley. I thought I might get the first review in but it's not yet even listed. Chris, owner, may not be Thai but he's Thai in his heart and his cooking. A great concept - affordable (mostly $10), delicious bento boxes - one dish with rice, one side and a piece of futomaki, a veg sushi roll. I had the Basil Chicken which was spot on in flavor - a little sweet and just the right spice that hits then goes bye bye. He knows to use cilantro stems vs roots or leaves for best rich flavor and a hit of fish sauce. Open 5-11p Wed-Sun, he's there for the later bar crowd too. I've been wanting to try My Thai for a while now, and today I finally did so! My husband and I were in downtown Fairfax running some errands, and we were craving Thai food. It was a chilly day, so warm noodles or rice sounded just right. Service was good, the food was delish, and decor was charming. We ordered the Crispy Tofu app, Ginger Stir Fry with Tofu, Eggplant Stir Fry, and a side of steamed veggies . Overall, we had a good experience here and will def come again. On our next visit I'll most likely try the Papaya Salad, as that's another one of my favorite Thai dishes. read more

Love the new addition of the Cowboy Bento walk-up window that's now part of My Thai. For $10, you can choose a bento box with potstickers, pad Thai (add chicken for $2), basil chicken, or red curry. Choose your side of fries, coleslaw, green salad, cucumber salad, or seaweed salad. You also get a piece of vegetarian sushi (a surprisingly refreshing little bite). The red curry is a real winner. You can eat at one of the outdoor tables or take it to go. What a convenient option for a quick hot and tasty (and inexpensive!) meal. Great for before or after a movie. read more

Been to Fair Fax tons of times for ice cream . first time to eat here food was really good, flavor was great, I always say you can almost always know a Thai restaurant is good based on their Pad Thai which in this case they nailed it . The staff of really nice the customers seem to be satisfied with their meals. The decor is also quite nice with the artificial flower but done very tastefully. Will definitely come back ! read more

I think we went on an off night because we always have had amazing food. No matter what we order, we have never been disappointed. But, we ordered calamari, fresh rolls with shrimp, and angel wings. The food was ready on time and nicely packaged. But, the calamari was so limp and tough that we couldn't eat it. The fried vegetables with it seemed to have been smooshed in a flour mixture and then fried. They were caked with something that tasted bitter. The angel wings were greasy and the stuffing was okay but not as good as we expected. The outside was so greasy that we tried to salvage some of the filling. And the fresh rolls were not very fresh. The carrots were thick and tough. The shrimp was excellent, however. We will wait a while and try again later. We love the service and hope we hit an off day. However, there were only two tables of people eating. read more

Rarely write a negative review but just ordered from My Thai for the first time and wow - just so below average Thai food. Chicken satay tasted microwaved and rubbery, pad Thai with prawns bland (prawns just boiled and tossed in), pineapple fried rice just smelled awful and was so clumpy. Papaya salad was just fine. 5 stars for service & decor 2.5~3 stars for the diluted/Americanized Thai food 1. Fried Rice (vegan) 2. Green curry (vegan) 3. Pad See yew (vegetarian + egg) 4. Fried tofu 5. Roti The service and decor here were awesome. The lady who took our order was really friendly and smiley. She really made us feel welcome. Perhaps I should temper my expectations since I live in an area with really great Asian food, so expecting Fairfax to have authentic Thai food might be a stretch? For the first 3 items we ordered, they were beautifully presented and made with fresh ingredients. However, they lacked so many elements that you'd expect from Thai food. There wasn't any lemongrass or any of that tangy sweetness you would find in both curry and the noodle dishes. The fried rice also lacked the powerful thai basil flavor that you'd expect. These 3 dishes all fell so short in flavor. I'm having a hard time saying this because the dishes were so beautifully made, with the brightest and most lovely veg... the spices and seasonings were just lacking. Luckily the fried tofu and roti were pretty standard. Actually the tofu had a really nice and light crust on it which held its crisp when they cooled. The roti was nice & flaky but again the sauces were a bit lacking. Would I personally seek out this place again? Probably not. It was a nice dining experience though, so I wouldn't be adverse to coming here for a group thing if others wanted to eat here. read more

The lighting is so bright and the food was mediocre. Their Fresh Rolls are a disaster. Who makes Thai fresh/summer rolls without noodles, shrimp, or any kind of protein whatsoever? We were so disappointed to get an order that was just lettuce, small carrot shavings, cucumber, and sprouts in rice paper. $14 for lettuce and rice paper. A joke. Bland and disappointing. We should have sent them back as I said no sprouts and they, indeed, had sprouts. Perhaps their other dishes are better, but this one needs a rethink. read more

Just had a delicious bowl of moo shu soup with thin noodles, bok Choi, and shrimp and chicken in pouches. A generous serving too!

A lovely stop in town. The staff are all so sweet and the service is impeccable. The decor truly immerses you while you have epic food experience. I ordered the Fresh Rolls, the Healthy Bowl, Mango Sticky Rice and a Thai Iced Tea. 10/10 will be back. read more

Woman (sometimes has her kid sitting behind register coughing on glassware) who works there is consistently rude. I've been ordering pick up since they opened and thought maybe she was having a bad day but how can she have a bad day every day? Wrong job choice for her. My Thai is the 3rd My Thai restaurant in the area -- the other two being in San Rafael and Mill Valley. They took over the old Siam Lotus Thai restaurant earlier this year. We had the fresh salad roll, the fried chicken spring roll and the corn fritters for appetizers. The fresh salad roll was vegetarian, and was different than I've had in the past. It was quite large, with big pieces of lettuce in it, wrapped in a fresh spring roll. No noodles in it. It came with a sweet/tart dipping sauce and a peanut sauce. The chicken roll had a fairly thick wrapper containing something that sort of reminded me of a chicken paste, and the same dipping sauce. Not bad but not really my style, but I would try a different spring roll next time. I love corn fritters, and these were pretty good. For dinner we shared the pad thai chicken, crab fried rice and drunken noodles with shrimp. Everything was served in these cute little metal dishes that did a great job keeping the food warm. The pad thai was pretty tasty, thought the thin pieces of chicken were a bit dry. I wouldn't normally order fried rice at most thai restaurants, by my wife wanted it. It was OK. I ordered the shrimp drunken noodles extra spicy. It wasn't really spicy at all. The noodles seemed a bit over worked and had kind of broken up more than I would have liked. Sometimes Thai restaurants will serve little bowls of condiments like vinegar/sugar/fish sauce/fish sauce with chilis. I asked for this on the side and they sort of asked what I wanted in it -- they brought back a little bowl of chilis with fish sauce and a few pieces of lime. That was a big help for the flavor and spice level I thought was lacking. All in all though, I enjoyed the meal. read more

2 stars for the food & service. Appetizer: Calamari (overcooked), with deep fried broccoli & zucchini (veggies not noted on menu). Very thick batter on all. Dipping sauce meh. Entrees: Pad thai noodles were subpar. A bright orange clumpy hot mess with a few pieces of chicken, tofu, with a clump of sprouts on top. BBQ salmon was a big disappointment. Overcooked with sauce squirted on top to replicate BBQ look. Veggies were undercooked, especially the green beans. Dessert: Sticky rice with coconut ice cream. Delicious, no complaints. Service: Abrupt service for a Tuesday night with only 5 tables occupied. Friendly servers with big smiles, but attentiveness was not their focus. Atmosphere: cute, clean, unfinished fountain near entryway, comfortable seating. My companion and I were both disappointed. We dropped $85 (food) for a meal that was well below our expectations for a Thai restaurant. read more

This spot has degraded in quality unfortunately. Food used to taste fresh with quality flavor. Lately it has felt like the quality of ingredients has gone down in terms of smells and flavors and how I feel after eating here. But the people are SO nice. We had such high hopes for this place since the San Rafael location is good. My fam ordered when it first opened in Fairfax and it was not great. We chalked it up to opening stress and hiccups. We've had it a couple times since then but last night was the last order. You have to try really hard to make food this bad. Truly. The eggplant was practically freeze dried into a clump and not recognizable as eggplant. The noodles were dry and stuck together. The pineapple dried rice, err, fried rice, was dry and not good. We tried to see if the leftovers might be better today. No. Even if you're forgiving about food, this place makes unforgivingly bad tasting and executed food. Hate to say, but run away. read more

Went with my family for my birthday. Big signs claiming "no 1 rated Thai restaurant in Marin for 7 years." Yes, the portions were huge. I mean, way too big. Spring rolls looked cute, but were so so. I ordered that most basic Thai dish - the coconut chicken soup. Don't bother. It was the worst I have ever had. It was filled with raw button mushrooms, big pieces of chicken - too big to eat politely without cutting, and a tasteless broth. And this is just my personal bugaboo, I don't want to have my soup in a stainless steel bowl. Doesn't inspire me to try My Thai again. The San Rafael My Thai has higher reviews, and I have liked the meals I had there, though it has been over 5 years. I am giving it three stars because none in my party of seven complained, so I guess their food was at least adequate. My daughter's mango trout was gargantuan. read more

Pretty average, Americanized thai food. Most of the dishes were quite bland, and the pad thai noodles were sticky in clumps. Beef satay was also pretty average, the beef did not taste like it was marinated at all, and I normally notice lemongrass in this dish. Note that we've only ordered take out so far, and can't comment on the ambience or service. read more

Came here late and greeted with friendly and pleasant people. This was our first time here so we tried a couple of food. Cute little place like eating a home cooked meal. Appetizer: Fried tofu 8/10, Roti 8/10, Calamari 8/10 (half of the servings are vegetables) Entree: Crab fried rice 10/10, Red Curry 8/10, BBQ Chicken 8/10, BBQ Beef 8/10, BBQ Pork 8/10, My Thai Egg noodle 8/10 Didn't ordered desert as we are full but will come back to try them in the future. read more

Stopped here for lunch on the way back from Point Reyes and was pleasantly surprised. Had my go-to pad gra pow with chicken and it was really tasty. Generous portions too. They also served orange infused water which was a nice change. Service was also super friendly. Great place to stop by if you're heading back to the city and need to find a lunch spot. read more

I can vouch for my usual order items being delicious: The green mango salad is packed with heat, umami, fresh herbs. The pad prik khing with tofu is consistently tasty and better than I've tried elsewhere. Paired with sticky rice it's also my daughter's favorite meal. read more

Our favorite place to get Thai food has been My Thai on 4th. Street in San Rafael. Living in San Anselmo, we were delighted to discover that a new 'branch' of that restaurant had opened in Fairfax - Right on Center, at the site of what once was the local Bus Terminal for Greyhound and more recently that of a less satisfying Thai restaurant. The menu is identical to the 4th Street place as is the food preparation. The interior has been nicely redone and there are 4-5 outside tables available. Being pescatarians, we choose prawns or tofu as our 'meat' option. Everything is prepared perfectly, served hot with the server keeping an eye out for the needs at any table - inside or out. It is great to find a favorite spot opening a local site. Mt Thai is welcome in Fairfax and I hope it will become, quickly, a favorite spot for locally available top-quality Thai food. 5 Stars well earned! read more

I have been thoroughly enjoying My Thai's Fairfax location recently. I've only ordered takeout, so I can't offer an informed perspective or opinion on the ambiance, service, etc. For better or worse, I'm a creature of habit and will typically find a go-to favorite at a restaurant and stick to it. Here it's the pineapple fried rice. It's savory, a little spicy if you ask them to make it that way, and every time I order from them, I'm delighted by how heavy the takeout box feels! They don't skimp on portions, and their portions are generous, to begin with; if you ask for "extra" anything, you will get it. read more

However went in today for a late lunch and the waitress was on her phone the whole time talk with EarPods in. It was 25 minutes of listening to someone yacking away, so non professional. read more

Sad to say it does not live up to the previous Thai restaurant. Dishes are underwhelming at best therefore not worth the $$$. After being displeased with the coconut milk soup, we called to let them know and were given a 'credit' for our next order. Thought we'd give them another shot a few weeks later, and use the credit, but of course there's no record of it. Instead I was hung up on. Great reviews on the side of restaurant reporting top Marin ratings for several years. The reviews caused us to stop there for lunch. At noon the place was almost empty but we took a chance. The waitress was pleasant, but the food very disappointing. I sent my grisly roast duck back. My friend ate his Pad Thai but said it wasn't worth eating but he had felt shy to protest. read more

We had lunch at My Thai in Fairfax yesterday and it was absolutely wonderful! Our party of six tried lots of different foods, including (that I sampled): shrimp crispy spring rolls (outstanding!), fried sweet potatoes, papaya salad, fresh veggie rolls, fried catfish with green beans. Everything was quite good and the rolls were packed with good stuff. I didn't get to try the chicken satay since there were four skewers and six of us, but my husband said that was good too. The service was also great -- we always had plenty of water (my litmus test), and the server graciously gave us more time to decide when we were too busy catching up to look at the menu and didn't rush us out when we were done eating. My only suggestion would be to shake up the dipping sauces a little; the same two came with everything. While I liked the peanut sauce, a little variety would have been nice too. I wish I lived closer so I could eat here all the time! read more
