It's good but I guess the foods have so much oil.... Pad Thai still my fav, i love the service and environment.

Small Thai restaurant in ktown. We ordered the chicken wings, drunken noodles, and fried rice. Service was prompt and food came out hot and fresh.

Great soup. I could have had a gallon of it, unfortunately it's $20 for the cup in the photo.... I'd do it again tho!

Food was not bad and portion was okay. I ordered take-out maybe would be better if I ate in. Atmosphere is cozy and peaceful server was polite. 3 1/2 would be best.

My go to Thai restaurant when I'm home. This little hole in the wall is perfect for some great food, attentive service, and a quiet meal. It's cozy in here and the vibe is super chill. I see people eating alone with a book all the time and it's nice. Definitely a change in the neighborhood restaurant scene. I love their seafood soup and pad thai. I recommend you dine in and enjoy your food all warm and toasty inside. Oh they also have Mexican bottled coke and sprite! Which is awesome.

If I could give this place a ZERO, I would. My experience just keeps going downhill even at home! First the service, the server that they had present this afternoon was not very friendly. She kept having this annoyed face and looking at me and it made me feel so uncomfortable that I almost left but I was really hungry and had already placed my order. Food came, first bite was a burst of flavor, not bad but then it became salty. There were also some bites that I took where I was getting a weird texture but I'm assuming it was the garlic in my garlic shrimp fried rice. I really don't know. Then the Thai coffee... I'm sorry but it was disgusting, so much so that I was going to add the complimentary water to it but that was NASTY toooooo!!!! It was straight from a faucet... NO FILTER! So that didn't work. After I finished eating I ordered a mango sticky rice to go. Those 3 items plus a $5 tip and $5 for valet and tip was a hefty and quick $50 solo date that I wish I did NOT spend. I came here because it was close to my acupuncture and physical therapy and the reviews were pretty decent! I felt bold enough to actually ask if I could exchange the coffee for the tea because it was inedible and she told me know she couldn't do that and offered me a sample of the tea and it was actually really good but I wasn't willing to pay another dollar after spending so much already. So about 10 minutes ago I went to heat up my mango and sticky rice and the rice was extremely hard even after sprinkling it with water so I turn it over and break it up and I see a cluster of brown things that I assume are sesame seeds and that's when I notice some fu@king LARVAE of some sort. I wanted to GAGGGGGG because now it makes me wonder about some of the odd textured stuff in my rice! I threw the whole thing away! Literally money in the damn trash! I'm so pissed and furthermore DISGUSTED! I didn't even have my glasses on and could see the ridges in the larvae body and it looks like it was toasted with the sesame seeds... I don't know but it's pretty damn disgusting! Because the server was so off putting I'm almost inclined to believe she placed it there on purpose but those are probably just my intrusive thoughts!!

    Any good vegetarian options here?

I called. They can use soy chicken or tofu as a substitute for meat or even make dishes without meat upon request. Hope this helps.

    Do they use MSG here?

Yes. When I called to ask the woman who answered the phone said if you ask they can omit it. Hope this is helpful.

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. I went close to closing so the staff could only offer me takeout, which was fine. They were friendly both over the phone and in-person when I picked up my order. I'm only dinging it a point because of its high(er) price point. I would be down to go back again to try out their entrees next time though!

My wife and I came for my birthday outing (she surprised me). Thai is always a "go to" and when we hit LA it's food time. My wife said probably the best she has ever had - crispy, creamy, actual crab sightings in the filling - loved it. Green curry - loaded with ingredients and aromatic and enticing. Eggplant, bamboo shoots lots of meat, veggies - and the curry underneath was loaded with flavor. Medium spice hit just right (I can handle Thai hot but I am taking it easy ok??) Drunken noodles - but an udon version? Let's try it - loved it! Again - plentiful meat, basil fragrance wafting to my nostrils, spicy sweet and savory blended sauce - fantastic. Verdict? Solid 5 on all hands. Service, ambience, food, value... You won't be sorry.

I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. And as someone who works in production and knows that things never go as planned, I'm generally the first to give someone the benefit of the doubt when something goes wrong. What I judge is the response....which is what prompted my original review. Several of my reviews here deal with that response rather than an isolated incident, and that's where a company's true colors shine. It isn't when everything is running smoothly when that recognizable critic is present (and also my objection to having a clear photo as requested by Yelp), but when the unexpected happens to an otherwise anonymous customer. How the staff manages their response when a valid complaint is made make all the difference, and unfortunately it took taking my complaint public to get a response, but yes, they came through in the end and I'm happy to recommend them again.
