THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER HAD TO WRITE A NEGATIVE REVIEW ON THIS SITE. But I feel cheated & taken advantage of, so I felt a responsibility to share my experience so that other people don't get swindled too. I wanted to try this place out and give them the benefit of the doubt about the "overcharge" issues referenced in other, older reviews. I thought maybe things had changed in the past few years. However, I was overcharged by almost $8. (If it was like $1 or $2, I wouldn't care, and would write it off as a mistake) And I know for a fact it wasn't an automatic tip being added to the total because that would have been a tip of 50%, which is far out of the ordinary. I only noticed the overcharge on the receipt once I got home. I always tip at restaurants. I say: if you have enough money to go out to eat, you have enough for a gratuity towards the people taking care to prepare your food. But I feel extremely cheated that I overpaid 150% for my order and then tipped 18% on top of it. I have never been anywhere where I had to double-check the receipt after I ordered -- so I didn't think to while I was there. You just trust that the cashier, (especially if you're ordering only 2 items) will total them correctly and honestly for you. How low to take advantage of people's trust and goodwill like that. I want to add that there was only one other person in there when I got there, who already had their food and so I wasn't there during some big, confusing rush. I've worked in food service for years, I know how it can be. I have the utmost empathy for it. But it was not a mistake. Take a look at the picture. The receipt only says the (incorrect) total, so that you can't have a breakdown of your items to prove your real total. That's very convenient for them. My real total should have been $14.44 (thai tea (4.49) + egg rolls (9.95)) and my receipt total was $21.84 before I tipped $3.93 on top of that. If this is due to their menu prices not being updated on the menu he handed me, then that is also an extremely shady way to take advantage of people. Make them think they're affording one thing while secretly charging much more. This is unacceptable behavior from a business. As for the actual food? The egg rolls had a nice sweet & sour sauce. The thai tea was good. But it was not worth a total of $25 being cheated. Where's the morality? What about the people living paycheck-to-paycheck, wanting to help support a small, local business? No good deed goes unpunished, I guess. A huge part of restaurants is the community-building and connecting that happens inside. I cannot believe a business would treat their customers this way, and I feel so stupid for not heeding the previous reviews' warnings. Please heed mine. read more

My friends and I were in the area craving Thai food and stumbled upon Kunnai--a true hidden gem! This spot has all the charm of a family-run mom-and-pop restaurant, with zero frills and all flavor. The moment we walked in, the staff handed us menus, and we saw the soccer match playing on the TV--felt like we were in someone's home, in the best way. Drove five hours for authentic Thai food, the spicy fish soup with mushroom is delicious .I can never find this authentic dish food anywhere near me. The service in Kunnai was excellent and very attentive and with such a kindness and care. I have came here 3 times. The first time was okay the food was good but the customer service was a little questionable. The second time I came here, going up to pay the server/cashier charged me a "automatic" tip and still asked for tip on top, as I said no he got mad. Third time I came here which is my last i go up to pay and he asks for tip again and I say no im sorry im paying a lot on gas and other things I don't have much. He begins to start complaining and talking about taking my wife out to eat and I can't pay tip and both me and my wife begin to get heated up and tell him that what he is doing is wrong and he decides to tell us not to come back, which we wont! Menu has plenty indicators of knowledgeable Thai cooking ranging that you would never guess from its outside appearance in a mini strip mall. Parking is sparse when the tiny corner plaza is popping. Everything tastes fresh and hit all the special flavors that make Thai food amazing. Pork jerky was great, but the dipping sauce was so sour and sharp. Delicious. The pork pad kaprow was saucy, herbaceous with the Thai basil, and warming. We asked for no spice in our seafood soup so the baby could eat it and it was definitely his first time eating something to heavily lemongrasss seasoned. We all loved it. We were craving Thai, so, we decided to give Kunnai a try and ordered the chicken pad ka prow, chicken rad na, and pork jerky with sticky rice via Uber Eats. The ka prow's flavor was good, but it was so oily. I've never had ka prow this oily before. The rad na was also oily. I would pass on the chicken in the rad na. Pork jerky was good and the sauce that came with it was very sharp and flavorful and cut through the fat nicely. We never received the sticky rice so can't speak on that. And unfortunately, we found a strip of metal in one of the jasmine rice. Overall, it was just ok. read more

I went to this place for the first time a few nights ago. My family and I came in late, almost before closing, and we ordered some seafood soup, garlic and black peppercorn shrimp, and shrimp chow mein. The waitress was lovely, and got our order in right away. The food was ready fast and they gave us fresh chili with our order. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I use to love this place until today. I ordered through Yelp (Grubhub). Horrible service I received from Sam when I tried to get a refund for the order I got with HAIR IN IT! I called Grubhub they offered to have the venue make me a new order.... I didn't want a new order. I wanted my refund. So I'm instructed to "Take the food back" so I can get new fresh orders from the restaurant. Why would I have to go through that hassle after coming home from a long shift at the hospital ? ‍ I just wanted to get home, take off my scrubs and shoes, rest and have some good Thai food. So I call the restaurant myself talk to this Sam guy and tell him what happened with my food and he tells me "bring the food here I give you new food". At this point I'm upset because and I'm trying to explain to him I don't have the food anymore I decided to throw it out before my family ate it. It was late at night and I didn't want to go out anymore. Nope... Sam said why did I throw the food out ? He said to take it out and bring it to the restaurant to get the new food. I told him I didn't want "new food" all I wanted was my refund. He was rude enough to say "bring the new food no refund" and...... click! He hung up the phone on me while I was still talking to him. So you guessed right.... I didn't want to but I ended up walking back to this place immediately after to talk to this guy to get my refund and report his horrible customer service. At all this, it's way passed 9pm. I get there and I tell him about his horrible customer service and specifically indicate to him I want a refund. I opened the boxes of food i ordered to show him the hair ( just in case he thought I was making it up) and he said ok wait I'll give you new food (Again... ignoring my request) . After yelling at me and me having to yell back saying I refuse to have food from them and I want my money back. His cook comes out sweet lady trying to calm the situation down. I end up calling Grubhub back while I'm there to request again my refund from this restaurant and they put me on hold to call the restaurant while I'm there so the refund could be authorized to me. Something he could have done calmly without being rude to me the customer. I probably would have ordered again in the future if he would have approached the situation differently. As you can see this place was a waist of time and money. Unfortunately, it use to be one of my go to Thai places when I had a crave for noodles. But this was a very unpleasant experience and left me in shock of how poor their customer service was to resolve this issue. So rude! I came to this restaurant with a friend on Wednesday night for a quick dinner. I found the place to be comfortable, with excellent service, and was a neighborhood staple. We ordered the pad see ew and pad kee mao. We shared both, and had no leftovers, especially with the hot chili flake sauce the restaurant had on the table. The Thai food was so good that my friend said it immediately reminded him of Thailand, where he has spent considerable time. The only problem is that there is limited parking within the center, and street parking is difficult as well. P.S. I recommend checking out the Mexican bakery to its left for dessert! read more

Face palm. I did ask for extra spicy but normally Thai restaurants do not add chili oil to this dish! You'd add in more green cut chili not oil. And i don't even taste the lime. This dish is just totally off for me. Sorry owners but this doesn't taste authentic. Score 3/10 - Spicy Chicken Soup: I'm not sure how this is different from a regular tom yum soup but the menu listed this as a base with lemongrass. This soup is red like tom yum, less oily but a little on the tasteless side. Still edible but just not something that you will order again. I asked to add broccoli, was charged for it, but never got it. 1. The meat was so tough it seemed like it had been sitting for a while 2. The noodles had a few clumps of dark burnt oil 3. Thought I'd try something different in my neighborhood. Big mistake. I ordered some takeout: a yellow chicken curry and some black pepper beef off a young man at the counter who didn't know what those things were, what price they were, or even where they could be found on his own menu. I should have left then, but stupidly I pressed on - and was rewarded with about eight stringy pieces of chicken-thigh in a sauce the consistency, color and taste of dirty rainwater. More than half the order consisted of chunks of carrot - to the extent that my wife, peering into the container, wondered aloud if there might be any actual chicken in the chicken curry? The beef was a little better - in that there was more or less the same amount of beef as vegetables - but tasted bland and chewy. Growing up in Australia, I realize, I've been spoiled for really good Thai food, but this is sub-par by any standard. I don't write many reviews, good or bad . . . but consider this a caveat emptor. read more
