A verylong overdue review as it was one of the last stops I visited on my short trip. This place felt like I was in a fever dream, honestly! My group was in absolute chaos figuring out how to order here. First, you enter in what seems to be an outdoor patio space, like out of a warehouse/ garage. After some stares from the patrons dining and NO help, we found out ourselves you're supposed to order at the tables with a QR code. The owner, from what I remember, had a great sense of humor and seemed to try to get to know his guests that dined at least. Orders were called out on a speaker, and everything is all self serve (water, cups, utensils). We ordered a Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, and to drink, Thai Tea. The dishes were all mild in flavor, with nothing in particular standing out, besides the overall atmosphere of this bizarre restaurant. Some may adore the space, others may bash on it, and some people will have mixed reviews like me! I got quite scared using the restroom alone and a door in the back was open too, just fyi! It was a quite eerie experience, but you won't ever find a restaurant like this anywhere else!

Reunited with the most authentic and "broke da mouth" Thai food...ever!!! We always make it a point to come straight here as soon as we jump in the rental car from OGG! Our faves, Papaya Salad (mild/medium), Pork Larb (mild/medium), and Mango Sticky Rice, which we inhaled!) I'm an 80s kid, so I appreciated seeing all the nostalgic movies and posters throughout. Thank you My Thai Maui for the wonderful hospitality always. CHEERS and happy eating till next time...

Even if you're just here for takeout, enjoy the quirkiness that is My Thai Maui, especially if you're an 80s baby looking for a good throwback moment. The owner seems to be a wacky guy but that just made the experience more entertaining. We were just here for takeout - the dining room is the garage next to the main "desk" where you can check in, or get your food from mobile takeout. Go to their website to order. He claimed it would be out faster than a Taco Bell takeout, and it was close, in 7 minutes we got our pad thai and fried rice like magic while my kids entertained themselves with the old computer alien games and yoda robot in the window. Want to see a boom box and type on a first gen keyboard, kids? Right there too. The dining room had more of this quirky 80s paraphernalia, so definitely a history museum alongside yummy food. Also, it's right next to the airport so a great place to get food before your flight. Food: Pad Thai with soft shell crab - SO GOOD. The pad thai is authentic with tamarind sauce, not the ketchupy mess that most places serve. The soft shell crab was perfectly fried up with roe that mixed in with the noodles. Overall, super tasty and huge portion. Lobster fried rice - also very good and again, huge portion.

All ordering is handled online, but the seating area is pleasant and clean! We enjoyed our pad Thai and bao buns. There was a gluten free option for pad Thai which was appreciated. We were brought a dessert sample which was lovely. Thank you!

The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was delicious and came in big portions. We were given complimentary water after we sat down which was a nice surprise. We ordered Summer Rolls and the Orange Chicken Bao. They were filling and tasty. The Summer Rolls were huge! We could only finish one of them. We also had the Mixed vegetables and added chicken. That was a big portion as well and we ate half of it. We ordered rice and we barely ate that. There weren't too many people dining in so the owner talked to us and shared the history of their business. He was really nice and gave us more ice tea as well as complimentary mango and sticky rice dessert. The mango was from their tree. It was SO Yummy! We enjoyed the whole experience! It's not a typical restaurant. You order and pay for your food through the QR code and he will announce on the microphone when your order is ready with some added humor. Loved that. Your food comes out in a paper bag and to go containers. If you decide to stay and eat there are paper products for you to use. We enjoyed the music playing, breeze coming in from outside and the overall ambiance. Our first time but not last. We came home with a bag full of leftovers. Our bellies were happy. Definitely recommend this restaurant not just for the food but for the service. Go and support this family business when in Kahului! Must must try. Definitely 5+ stars!

I absolutely love this place and have been coming here for years. My family and I have a place here in Maui and every time we visit we always make sure to save a spot in our trips to come here. We've also been to Thailand and it's safe to say the food is exactly the same if not better. The family owning this restaurant is also so sweet and the owner Nong was so nice. She was willing to make small talk with us while we ate and was on top of everything, so special shoutout to her :) The interior was also so beautifully put together. It's a mix of Thai culture while also acting as an homage to the 80s while still flowing together seamlessly and cleanly. I also recommend the Khao Soi it's absolutely delicious. Anyways if you're on the island definitely give this place a try you won't regret it.

Should you decide to venture here and try the Thai food, I will say that it's tasty and the potions are generous. Apart from the unconventional style of a sit down restaurant, the entrance to this eatery has windows with signs of instructions for it's patrons as a greeting. A large door marked restroom, let's guest know, that you need to look further to locate the tables and chairs adjacent. There, you can scan the menu on the QR code and order the food from your phone. We noticed that additional items are available for a fee, such as ...soy sauce, prik nam pla, limes, etc. Although a bit peculiar and cumbersome to those who are unfamiliar with the lack of ordering from a wait staff, this can be a fun challenge for you, as there is nobody there to help with your order. Once you have selected the item of choice and wait for the sound over the loudspeaker system to announce your name and food choice, you will head to the last window in the back of the eatery and collect your food. Given the choices available for dining options in the area, this Thai eatery is a good bet. Located across the car dealership in a stripmall and near the main road. It's an easy find by car. VCR video tapes, and movie posters adorn the walls along with the Thai and Honolulu posters. Giving it a whimsical motif. The garage door entrance, allows the natural light and elements to be enjoyed while dining. The portion of the food is generous and tasty . Which encourages you to return again. A big thank you to the family and staff of this eatery. I certainly discovered what it's like to be here and found it memorable.

    Tofu pad Thai

We came here on a weekday and you have to check in outside in the front before grabbing a table. We checked in with who seems like the owner and he was gracious with his customers. My partner and I ordered separately on our phones using the QR code separately and when we received our orders they were both in the same bag. My partner ordered the garlic noodles with the orange chicken. The garlic noodles had a lot of sesame oil and the chicken was on the tougher side - not crunchy and not much flavor either. The pad Thai with tofu was pretty good, but the sauce was overpowering yet not as nuanced as I'm used to for pad Thai. There was a lot of lime and sugar, but not much other stuff. After tip, the garlic noodles was $29 and the tofu was $25, which is on the pricey side for Thai food that is self-serve in to-go containers. I think the business can work on more eco friendly ways of serving their food. Everyone seemed to be eating there so they definitely didn't need a brown bag that the food was packed in to everyone. So I would not serve the food in a bag and just have folks come up and ask if they need a bag. Also, they don't have paper cups for water, but we are given small water bottles per guest upon entering (not nearly enough for those who like water).. And the utensils are also plastic too, so as of now there is a lot of waste and plastic in their operations and not really eco friendly as some of the descriptions online state. I had checked the box for taking a survey to receive a free dessert but the link wasn't working for us. It's also a bit weird to get compensated with food for taking a survey, so I probably shouldn't have checked that box, and don't really agree that should be a thing. Overall, the food is good and it's great that they are a mom and pop shop running this operation in a garage-like structure. But the prices are on the higher side and they can work on at least the couple of dishes that we had as well as on being actually eco friendly. Not sure I would return.

I put a 4 star due to the way of payment that this place requires. Although it is awesome for being touchless, I find it kind of disrespectful to pay uphand including for tip before I even get my food and trying it. How do I know the food is going to be good or the service to give the correct tip? As soon as you get here you are greeted by a talking Yoda giving you instructions. It's kind of fun that part. So you have to follow the written instructions. Once you are seated at a table that you choose that is available and you scan the code with your phone and the order starts. It is a pricey Thai restaurant for not being an elegant dining. Place is located like in a warehouse area with lots of parking. Place is clean and decoration is unique. We ordered Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chicken Bao Buns and a Soft Crab Thai Fried Rice. For those three things our bill was $92 in where they automatically charged a 11.79% for a wage fee plus you have to add the tip (be careful they automatically add the 20%) I changed that to 18%. Once again without even knowing how the food was going to be. Food quality was outstanding and fresh. They wrap everything as if its to go even though you are going to dine in. Overall it was a nice place to eat for me my only downfall was the way prepayment should be. They don't add the wage fee to your bill if the order is online to go. We did meet the host after and he was really nice.

We made sure to pay a visit on our first free lunch day! Of course, coming during the lunch rush we had to wait for maybe 20 minutes outside before getting a table for 4. Longest 20 minutes of my life LOL! Paid off though when we finally got seated! Ordered the usual suspects: -Dry Noodles (Dry Mein) ($18.95) - DOUBLE sized for 2! Or one Hungry Hawaiian HA! -Cheeseburger Deluxe ($5.95) -French Fries with Mustard/Mayo ($5.95) -BBQ Stick (Beef and Chicken) ($3.75 each) -Manju ($1.25 each) -Turnovers ($1.85 each) I was so hungry I forgot pics of half my order! Shared the Dry Noodles with my Mom but honestly I ate 75% of that double order LOL! Just as awesome as I remember - just needed a dash of the soup, splash of shoyu, dab of Tabasco, and a lot of cracked black pepper! Ugh, so ONO! The Cheeseburger Deluxe and French Fries were honestly not gourmet, but the nostalgia factor brings it up a notch for me. Don't forget to dip into their Mustard/Mayo mix, it's a game changer! The BBQ Sticks were a little overdone this time but I'll let it slide because I do love that char on the edges. And you can't leave without having a manju and turnover (or 2....of each LOL) for dessert! Not much has changed at Sam Sato's over the decades (except maybe the prices, they went up!) and that's the way we like it! Old schoo for an old foo like ME!
