As a Thai person spending a month in Maui and eating my way through several Thai restaurants and food trucks, My Thai is the best by far! The menu has all the familiar Thai favorites, but also dishes that are hard to come by in the States. We tried quite a few things, and everything was excellent. Our favorites were the Spicy Basil (pad krapow) and Mom's Sausage (sai oua). The pad krapow comes with ground meat, as it should, and has that savory, spicy, fragrant flavor I look for. Mom's Sausage is incredibly flavorful and definitely worth ordering. The Pad Mama is another standout. It's a simple Thai comfort dish made with instant noodles, but they do it perfectly. And don't skip the mango sticky rice! The sticky rice was warm, soft, and pillowy, and the mango was perfectly ripe. Everyone here is super friendly too. The interior is cute, creative, and full of little details that show how much thought went into the place. They even play Thai country music in the background. One tip for first-timers: when you arrive, grab a menu from the check-in spot outside the restaurant, to the left of the dining area. Then head into the dining area and they'll seat you. You order through the QR code at your table and pay + tip when you place your order. Food is served in paper takeout containers. I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in Maui! read more

The food is normally great and we come here religiously every week; however, I'm disappointed that when I order the $30 whole fried fish thinking I'm getting Pompano, I end up with Tilapia. They've done this twice and I can't even call them to ask them because their number doesn't work and there's no way of getting a hold of them. I wish their menu was more accurate or if that's the case, note that the fish could be substituted because what we ordered versus what we got, are definitely 2 different things. I know what tilapia costs versus pompano and if you're going to charge me $30 for fish, I would expect to get what I ordered. I messaged them through their social media since their phone doesn't work so hopefully they respond and do the right thing. We've been loyal customers and this isn't cool. Dinner takeouts are not cheap on island so when we splurge for the $30 fish, we hope to get just that. read more

Please note, I did not eat here. I came, I sat and then I left. This place was recommended to me by a friend who does have good taste, however this place was too strange. We arrived at 7PM on a Friday to a nearly empty dining room. Well, we went into dining room 1 and saw two people, stood there for a good minute with no one coming by to seat or greet us, so I walked over to dining room 2 since I saw a woman wiping down tables. She said we could dine here too, so I walked back outside (rooms are not connected) to get the rest of the party over. We sat in the middle of the room, since there wasn't anyone else and marveled at the "quirky" decor, which was kind of interesting. A few minutes passed and a woman came out with small bottles of water. Since we're new to the place, we didn't know there wasn't a menu - just a QR code that wasn't prominently displayed or designed (dark on semi-dark colors). We scanned it and it is the weirdest menu I've ever seen filled with "jokes," that actually adds to the bill. It was difficult to navigate as it is long and not in organized, but Pad Thai for $25? Get out of here. I don't care how good it is. I'm not paying $75 for three entrees. The waitress hasn't checked on us for a while when we had questions, so we decided to leave. I went to the window to call them to let them know, but they didn't hear me above their own chatter, so we just left. Light industrial condo units converted to a restaurant in an industrial area with hardly any customers on a Friday night. I don't know how they survive. After dealing with a flat tire in the rain with no cell service on the Road to Hana, my family and I were able to stop here for a late night bite and thought it'd just be a regular Thai spot. Being greeted by a Yoda statue and checked in by Obi Wan Kenobi via rotary phone was unexpected to say the least hahahah. The restaurant is split into a few dining rooms, us being seated in the second one. The decor here is eccentric and funky - Thai illustrative wallpaper, Elvis cardboard cutouts, Beatles coffee table books, Back to the Future hoverboards, and SO much Star Wars. Really gives you a lot to look at and talk about while you wait for your food. The food comes to-go style with disposable cutlery, plateware, and water bottles which I didn't fully understand, but everything was sooo tasty. We were the only party in the room so everything came out quickly and hot. We all shared the panang curry, pad thai, fried tofu, fried rice, and tom yum soup and everything was so delicious. Flavors and textures were incredible.Our server was so sweet too, bringing out some coconut tapioca pudding at the end of the meal as a free dessert! A verylong overdue review as it was one of the last stops I visited on my short trip. This place felt like I was in a fever dream, honestly! My group was in absolute chaos figuring out how to order here. First, you enter in what seems to be an outdoor patio space, like out of a warehouse/ garage. After some stares from the patrons dining and NO help, we found out ourselves you're supposed to order at the tables with a QR code. The owner, from what I remember, had a great sense of humor and seemed to try to get to know his guests that dined at least. Orders were called out on a speaker, and everything is all self serve (water, cups, utensils). We ordered a Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, and to drink, Thai Tea. Our dinner at My Thai Maui might be my favorite restaurant meal ever. The atmosphere the owners created is fantastic and retro. We were surrounded by vhs tapes, some Star Trek playing, and trinkets from the 80s we could try out. We spent the first part of dinner asking each other trivia questions from 80s trivial pursuit! We got the Panaang curry, pad thai, and mango sticky rice- all of which were delicious. This is unfortunately our last night on Maui, or else we would be back. Pay special attention to online menu items as the descriptions are as entertaining as the restaurant. My personal recommendation is to rent the magic eye book. Ordering is done "online" through an app. Once you figure that out it goes well, however there is a bit of a process to get there. There are two dining rooms. The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was delicious and came in big portions. We were given complimentary water after we sat down which was a nice surprise. We ordered Summer Rolls and the Orange Chicken Bao. They were filling and tasty. The Summer Rolls were huge! We could only finish one of them. We also had the Mixed vegetables and added chicken. That was a big portion as well and we ate half of it. We ordered rice and we barely ate that. There weren't too many people dining in so the owner talked to us and shared the history of their business. He was really nice and gave us more ice tea as well as complimentary mango and sticky rice dessert. The mango was from their tree. It was SO Yummy! We enjoyed the whole experience! It's not a typical restaurant. You order and pay for your food through the QR code and he will announce on the microphone when your order is ready with some added humor. Loved that. There are not too many restaurant experiences where my girlfriend and I walk out, but we were gone after 10 minutes. This entire experience screams money grab. No hostess. No servers. No plates or silverware. No menu. What other expenses can we get rid of to increase profits? This open garage dining area is across from the swamp, so basically dinner smells like fart when there is a breeze. The menu is a QR code to an app with a HORRIFIC user experience. There were weird ads mixed in with all the menu items while scrolling. We were spending more time navigating away from app spam than reading the menu. Every dish was an upsell option build your own plate thing. $1 for level one spice. $1.50 for level 2 spice, etc. It doesn't just feel like price gouging masked under customization, but it makes you question if you're even getting the dish that the chefs meant for you to have. If it were just one or two of these things at a reasonable price, whatever...but when it's $70 for 2 for Thai Food in a garage with no service - no, thank you. We came here on a weekday and you have to check in outside in the front before grabbing a table. We checked in with who seems like the owner and he was gracious with his customers. My partner and I ordered separately on our phones using the QR code separately and when we received our orders they were both in the same bag. My partner ordered the garlic noodles with the orange chicken. The garlic noodles had a lot of sesame oil and the chicken was on the tougher side - not crunchy and not much flavor either. The pad Thai with tofu was pretty good, but the sauce was overpowering yet not as nuanced as I'm used to for pad Thai. There was a lot of lime and sugar, but not much other stuff. After tip, the garlic noodles was $29 and the tofu was $25, which is on the pricey side for Thai food that is self-serve in to-go containers. I think the business can work on more eco friendly ways of serving their food. Everyone seemed to be eating there so they definitely didn't need a brown bag that the food was packed in to everyone. So I would not serve the food in a bag and just have folks come up and ask if they need a bag. Also, they don't have paper cups for water, but we are given small water bottles per guest upon entering (not nearly enough for those who like water).. And the utensils are also plastic too, so as of now there is a lot of waste and plastic in their operations and not really eco friendly as some of the descriptions online state. I had checked the box for taking a survey to receive a free dessert but the link wasn't working for us. It's also a bit weird to get compensated with food for taking a survey, so I probably shouldn't have checked that box, and don't really agree that should be a thing. Overall, the food is good and it's great that they are a mom and pop shop running this operation in a garage-like structure. Although it is awesome for being touchless, I find it kind of disrespectful to pay uphand including for tip before I even get my food and trying it. How do I know the food is going to be good or the service to give the correct tip? As soon as you get here you are greeted by a talking Yoda giving you instructions. It's kind of fun that part. So you have to follow the written instructions. Once you are seated at a table that you choose that is available and you scan the code with your phone and the order starts. It is a pricey Thai restaurant for not being an elegant dining. Place is located like in a warehouse area with lots of parking. Place is clean and decoration is unique. We ordered Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chicken Bao Buns and a Soft Crab Thai Fried Rice. For those three things our bill was $92 in where they automatically charged a 11.79% for a wage fee plus you have to add the tip (be careful they automatically add the 20%) I changed that to 18%. Once again without even knowing how the food was going to be. Food quality was outstanding and fresh. They wrap everything as if its to go even though you are going to dine in. Overall it was a nice place to eat for me my only downfall was the way prepayment should be. They don't add the wage fee to your bill if the order is online to go. This is our favorite restaurant in maui and the first thing we eat after landing. Its 5 mins from airport so its perfect location wise. Their pineapple fried rice is to die for. I absolutely love this place and have been coming here for years. My family and I have a place here in Maui and every time we visit we always make sure to save a spot in our trips to come here. We've also been to Thailand and it's safe to say the food is exactly the same if not better. The family owning this restaurant is also so sweet and the owner Nong was so nice. This was our first meal after arriving on Maui. This small restaurant is less than 2 miles from the airport. The entire experience was a bit atypical/interesting. There was a sign telling us to ring a bell at the check in desk. A recording came on, half way through, the owner appeared. He lead us to the main part of the restaurant, describing it as a sort of food truck experience, where all the food comes out in to-go boxes, orders and payment were via QR codes. He pointed to another window where utensils were and there was apparently another bell we could ring if we needed in-person help. I proceeded to make my order. There were a lot of choices on the menu as we were warned by the owner. Prices were rather high, we are from Los Angeles but we figured it's Maui. But it made no sense that the basil eggplant dish was $25 while the chicken pad Thai was $21. For the "food truck" experience, they were charging sit down restaurant prices, and it was payment upfront, including the tip. I tipped, but I found it rather odd that I'm sitting in a restaurant and haven't received any service yet. While waiting for my food, I decided to check out the Yelp reviews and found out this tipping process was a sore point of contention between the owner and several Yelpers. Yikes. Overall the food was decent, but I wouldn't say it's anything special. I thought the prices were a bit high for what you get, especially since entrees do not include rice. The owner guy was friendly enough towards us. Although I would admit the overall interaction was a bit awkward. You say hi to Yoda and then find your seats in this open side door experience. Order and pay through the app. The bathrooms and decor are retro 70s glam movie decor. It was a very amusing place. The host was very talkative and friendly. What we swallowed: *THAI ICE TEA: Flavorful, refreshing and delicious. *GARLIC NOODLE ORANGE CHICKEN: Two of my favorite dishes mashed up together: it was truly a magnificent dish, even my daughters loved it. Flavorful noodles and the chicken was moist. *CRAB FRIED RICE: The rice was LOADED with crab and so delicious! This had to be one of my favorite crab fried rice dishes of all times, it was so good! *MANGO STICKY RICE: Sweet, coconutty, delicious. Cooked to perfection and a perfect way to end a perfect meal. Wow has this place gone down the rabbit hole... not in a good way. I haven't been here for years because frankly I didn't want to deal with it. The food was good last time I tried but if you read my previous reviews I only came back because the owner wanted to make amends and give a better experience. Looking back that was a bad idea and seeing how this place is then and now proves that they sometimes bully and buy people's reviews. It was relentless and it seems this attitude has gotten worse. The entire system is ridiculous- I won't get into it because every other review outlines their bizarre system. What I will say is if you go a little deeper into the reviews for this place you'll be amazed by how many are hidden, taken down, not recommended etc. All The 1 star reviews of course. The owner works real hard on his image and to fight any negative reviews. If you want a good experience go elsewhere, the negative reviews are true- the guy that comes out, Matthew, is rude, belittling and disturbed. I didn't even stay to order food this time I was so put off by him. Not to mention the prices are too high. As a Maui resident I will not support this business. This is not how anyone or any business should behave. There are other yummy Thai food places without the attitude or outrageous prices. read more
