Sad to say, but I've never had any worse Thai food!! It puzzles me why this place got Best of Marin 2015 and 2016 or Readers Choice 2019!! Let's start with the soup - Po Tak. I asked if they had Tom Yum Goong, which is a staple of Thai food. They said they have two versions, but named them differently, which is quite strange to begin with. Tom Yum is Tom Yum, even different parts of Thailand I vacationed in call it Tom Yum. Their Po Tak was not spicy, was not sour, nothing but lots of mushrooms and salt! Weirdly, it has Enokitake mushroom in it too! Couldn't taste the lemongrass, couldn't taste the basil, couldn't taste the ginger, it didn't even look like Tom Yum! Their picture on their website's totally misleading!! Angel Wings - that's probably the only thing that was decent. Other places I've had usually have some glass noodle mixed in so the texture wouldn't be so dense. Flavor was okay, so at least I was able to eat that. Fried Sweet Potatoes - the potatoes weren't even cooked all the way, it was still very hard in the middle!! Red Curry with Beef - curry is supposed to rich and heavy in flavor. Their was so bland, you would think you were just drinking some coconut milk. Drunken Noodle - better known as Pad Kee Mao. It wasn't spicy at all, also very bland, and the noodle was soooooo overcooked it was pretty much melted, couldn't even pick up the noodle without it falling apart, more like a pile of mush! Here comes the shady bill - the original bill they dropped off, the tip guide is without the taxes on it. Then the credit card slip tip guide calculates it with the taxes. This truely is My Thai. I think i've made this restaurant my second kitchen. Take out nights, Dine in nights, Can't decide what to cook nights... and every time we are greeted with a friendly smile and consistantly good food. Some of our favorites: Drunken noodles with Chicken, Pad See Ewe with shrimp, and the green curry fried rice with shrimp are all excellent dishes. Lately we've been loving the spicy garlic chicken wings too - they go well with a Singha Beer. Sitting at the street tables, along 4th street, makes for an enjoyable evening of food and people watching. read more

It was my last day before the start of a diet and I wanted--or rather *needed* coconut rice--the actual entree being a distant second. So I check out My Thai, and they sure are popular. Sunday evening and the place is packed. Luckily, as I was a party of one, I was able to snag an end table without a wait. Hardly had to wait for anything at all, in fact; service was highly efficient. For once, I ordered something other than pad see ew: a mixed vegetable stir fry with tofu, and (of course) the coveted coconut rice. The latter was everything I'd wanted--sticky and slightly sweet with a rich coconut flavor. The veggies--cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and baby corn--were very good too. They could have gone a little longer in the wok, but I finished them nonetheless. The sauce was excellent--light but very savory--and the tofu was perfectly crisp. The prices were average for Marin ($11 for my entree). It's a classy place--a good bet for a date or a family outing. read more

MY THAI: we came here for lunch and it wasn't pretty packed but not super full. Lovely decor inside and quick service . We were seated immediately and I order the Pad Gra Thiem which is basically any meat with garlic and black pepper sauce. I had it with shrimp and it was actually really really delicious over jasmine rice. We all enjoyed meal and I forward to coming back and trying out more of their food. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed My Thai! This has been one of our go-to's during the pandemic!!! It's solid Thai food (at least for us vegetarians) chock full of flavor. If you love your veggies, they are so generous with a variety of veggies in every dish. Our go to dishes: Pad Thai with veggies and tofu, spicy basil fried with veggies and tofu, corn fritters, yellow curry with veg and tofu. Pad Thai is the kiddos got to and she usually wolfs most of it down before any of us can even try it! The pad Thai noodles are perfectly chewy and they have a great balance of sweet and sour! The spicy basil fried rice is hands down my favorite! The rice just has so much flavor and just a hint of smokiness which I just love! Drool!!!! The corn fritters are so yum and I think my Thai might be the only Thai place in Marin that offers them (at least the Thai place I have been to). So crispy and crunchy with a burst of sweetness from the corn. They come with two sauces--a sweet and a peanut sauce. The peanut sauce is the bomb! So good! Food was horrible. Pad Thai were all noodles and dry. No veggies and too much tofu. Sticky rice dessert was a solid glob and no indication of any ice cream. The other dish I had to split because it was the only edible part of the meal. BBQ chicken with what looked like frozen vegetables (which didn't get eaten) I ordered for Fairfax location and it was sent to San Rafael. So this was an hour round trip for a terrible meal. The food was FANTASTIC! Very fresh (especially the bean sprouts), with loads of crunchy veggies and very ample portions. I had a promotional offer from Uber Eats so was eager to try out Faifax's newest restaurant and discover if the good buzz around the town was warranted. So, if I wanted to use my offer, it would have to be from their San Rafael location since I live too close to the Fairfax one for delivery to happen. The opening of a new restaurant is a real cause for joy and celebration in our little Mayberry on Acid town. Heck, folks here get real excited about just a change of ownership much less a whole new place to take the family to. I make this observation based solely from living here a year following the life changing sale of my house in SF... And, OH MY, the food didn't disappoint. Exhausted from a long day, I decided not to cook and ( based on the recommendations from Yelp) to go all bougee and order the Crab Pad Thai and Duck with Yellow Curry. Now, this was a tricky move because almost always when you order a protein more exotic than the standard chicken, beef, or pork you receive tiny strands of it or smeared into a sauce. But, get this, the Pad Thai ($20) was LOADED with fresh crab, there was literally a freaking mountain of crab covering the noodles! It would have been at least $40.00 and more in the City and have a third of the amount of the crab and still, people would pay that. Also, I greatly appreciated that they used very high quality ingredients like gorgeous beautifully sliced veggies. I've had a fair share of mostly mediocre Thai food here in the Bay Area, and even randomly in London and Canada. Now as far as the Duck with Curry, that was in a league all by itself. Tender, chunks of duck throughout swimming in a very coconut forward curry with bell peppers, loads of roasted peanuts, bean sprouts, and yes, even pineapple tidbits which really MADE the dish! The only downside was that the curry was a bit too watery which might thicken a little by tomorrow morning. I have what is essentially a portion for a family of three or four... Unfortunately, there are too many strikes of things that have gone wrong tonight. 1. THEY ARE DOING INDOOR DINING. This is not publicized anywhere on the website or Yelp, in fact both places explicitly say they aren't doing dining in. If you are concerned for your health and not going to restaurants doing this -- beware! 2. Didn't pick up the phone when they tried to call. We were calling to clarifying if they were doing indoor dining so if they had done this, the problem would've been avoided. 3. Completely lost track of the order, didn't know we placed an order, and just were totally confused -- only later to find out the order was next to them the whole time. I get COVID is difficult and it's also incredibly important for restaurants to give customers accurate information and be responsive. Came for lunch with a close friend and shared the basil chicken and beef noodle soup. Yum! Definitely Americanized Thai food, but still tasty. Ambiance-wise, I prefer their Novato location because it is more cozy, warm and inviting. Also, parking is much easier compared to Downtown San Rafael. DO BE PREPARED THAT SERVICE IS SLOW. Consider avoiding this place. I didn't heed the advice of other reviewers about them not starting your food until you arrived, but I was wrong. Ordered takeout directly from their website and gave them 30 minutes lead time. Arrived a little after my scheduled time and there were a half dozen or more frustrated people all waiting for their order. One guy asks for a beer since he's been waiting so long and they oblige. I finally am able to speak with someone and the woman doesn't have any idea about my order. She looks through her tickets and computer and says there is no order under my name. I then get asked to prove my order and fortunately there was info in my email. She's then suddenly able to find my order in the system and prints the ticket and says it's coming right up. While I wait, I notice no one seems to be helping anyone in the dining room. There's about three tables occupied, so not too crazy. 30 minutes exactly go by, and I ask if there's any update. She says it's coming. I then request a beer like I saw the other guy ask, but she doesn't acknowledge and goes back to handing out orders. Probably a dozen people come in and successfully get their order. Another 10 minutes passes (we're at 1:40 since ordering) and I plainly say "hey, it's ok, I get you're busy. If they haven't started it yet, I'll just take a refund and try another time." She goes back in the kitchen and comes out with a curious look on her face, and says it's all in the fryer, whatever that means. Pretty sure this is the moment they started my order. I request a beer once more, but get ignored. A while later, the woman then comes out with a coca-cola (I don't drink soda, but I guess it's *a* gesture, though not the one I requested or granted earlier to another customer right front of me). I waited some time more and then my food finally came out. She thanked me for my patience, but it seemed disingenuous. I've spent years in the service industry and sincerely have empathy, especially during a worker shortage, so I take my order and head home grateful I have a warm dinner. Here's the problem and main reason I'm writing this. The food was bad. I ordered the Panang Curry and it was basically brown flavorless diluted coconut water with frozen crinkle cut vegetables. Not even remotely spicy either. I'd like to emphasize how very watery the curry was. It's extremely disappointing and frustrating, especially for how expensive it is. In fact, it's some of the most expensive Thai food I've seen and I typically don't think twice about price (unless it's awful). For what it's worth, I had a similar 'start cooking when customer arrives' recently when I tried Thai Smile, so maybe it's a Marin thing. First and last time here, unfortunately. Stop here after an afternoon of car shopping. which turned into evening. Never been to San Rafael before, so relied on Yelp to find a Thai place and found this restaurant with good enough reviews. I have to remember though, that whenever anywhere in the Bay area on a weekend nonetheless, reservations are highly required. The entryway is really close to the diners that are seated next to it, you can't help but see what they ordered. Luckily we were not starving. We were seated at just about the 30min mark. By this time we were a little thirsty for sure, and luckily I didn't help myself to the water that was by the register. I initially thought it was for people waiting in line, but then saw the servers bringing it to the tables...oops! We ordered our standard favorites.Nam tok salad, spring rolls, green curry, beef basil, and a couple new things. We ordered the Rad Nar, but I meant to get Pad woon sen. I don't know what I was thinking, the Rad Nar was good, similar to Pad see ew, but not as sweet? I liked the degree of spicy that came out, we ordered medium. Got the Po tak instead of Tom Yum, and tried the greens beans with pork. We all enjoyed the flavors of the meal and were pleasantly surprised. Actually the food was very tasty. Dishes ordered were Chicken BBQ and Red Curry Seafood. Chicken was stellar. The generous Red Curry had perfect veggies, lots of seafood and the broth was not too salty so I slurped it up like a soup. The jasmine rice was fluffy and fragrant - not gummy. Thai iced tea - perfection. Why 3 stars? The mussels in the Red Curry were chewy like gristle in contrast to the rest of the seafood that was tender that included salmon, very tender calamari, bay scallop and shrimp. There was 1 small bay scallop. I was so looking forward to softer mussels and a few more scallops. Another ding was the coconut ice cream. It tasted nothing of coconut, but it did have barely discernable tiny bits of coconut like grit. It seemed frost bitten with a piece of ice in it. A spritz of canned whipped cream that adorned it was ...well... from a can. It was not even good ice cream - terrible and shocking. A large percentage of the time, for me, Thai restaurants have always run out of coconut ice cream so I was surprised when they said yes. The good stuff is creamy with chunks of plain coconut. A high rated place like this should have never serve this product to moi. Now I know why they had plenty of it. Really super good was the fried banana that came with it. The staff was so very friendly and accommodating. Fix the mussels, the scallops and the ice cream and I would give the place 5 stars. Dinner for two with drinks and dessert - $60. read more

They've won a bunch of "Best of Marin" awards, and I can see why. I ordered a green curry with pork and everything was executed really well. The pork was tender, the vegetables had the right level of doneness, not too crunchy, not cooked down to a mash and the curry had a pleasing complexity to it. The whole family liked what they had. Friendly service, prices were reasonable for downtown San Rafael. Menu has all the standard Thai dishes, I wouldn't call it wildly original, so this is place to go for the usual Thai favorites executed well. My husband, my golden retriever, and I went here tonight during the San Rafael's nights under the lights. Outdoor seating available, they brought water for my pup, and great service! I've been to a few Thai restaurants in the area, and I can never find "Rad Nar" with seafood! They make pretty authentic dishes, but maybe it's because I spoke Thai (yes, I'm Thai!). One of my boyfriends preferred Thai places so I've been here more than I would have liked to. Nothing bad, but die-hard Thai Food lovers need to look elsewhere to satisfy their cravings. AMBIANCE (5/5) Really cute restaurant, nice vibe and decor. SERVICE (3.5/5) Slow service. Even basic meals will take about 30 minutes to prepare, and this place can get crowded which means there might be a wait to get seated. Friendly servers, but stretched thin in terms of the amount of tables they are waiting on. FOOD (3/5) Bland. If you are used to Western food and typically stray away from Thai food because of the spices and curry - this might be the place for you. This is why my boyfriend loves this place, is because it literally is so far removed from Thai food that it shouldn't even fall into the category of Thai anymore. Think of PF Changs. Even though I asked for my Pad Kee Mao spicy, it came out with pretty much zero spice to it. Asking for hot sauce didn't help, as even their hot sauce is more like siracha than anything with a kick to it. Also pet peeve: too many veggies/scrambled eggs, not enough noodles. We have been going to My Thai for many years and the food and service has always been good...... BUT recently they have fallen off a cliff. We recently ordered food to go.... Besides not being ready when we got there -(see other reviews with the same issues of not starting the order until you arrive) they gave me my order and when I arrived home, I discovered that many of the main dishes were missing. We had company coming over, we are 30 minutes from the restaurant and were left in the lurch. What really made us mad was they actually called us just as we left and thought we had taken the wrong order - I looked at the tag on the back with our name on it .... they knew at that time that dishes were missing from our order (because they had them there), and said nothing!! Went here for lunch with my girlfriends. The restaurant is located on 4th street between C and B Street. The restaurant was a bit busy with the late lunch crowd. There were about 3 tables still open. We opted for the one near the window since we were still waiting for another friend to come. Once we were all together we ordered the Crispy Tofu that came with peanut and sweet and sour sauces. I ordered the Pad See Ew with Beef. My friends ordered the Pad Thai and a Brown Rice, Peanut Sauce Tofu meal (can't remember the dish, but this is the best way I could describe it). I enjoyed my Pad See Ew and the Tofu. Each dish was very flavorful and just the right portion. Our waitress and waiter were very attentive. They stopped by multiple times to refill our water glasses. Our meal came out to be about $53 (tip included). Overall, the food was delicious and the service was great. I will be definitely be back!!! read more

This is my go-to spot, when I'm craving for Thai food for lunch. It's walking distance from my work place. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and nice. I've ordered spicy wings and/or roti from the appetizers section of the menu. I can't complain. They are delicious! Their pad thai isn't too bad. The noodles aren't soggy; they cooked al dente. The way I like my noodles! The flavoring is okay. But I like spicy food, so I'll ask for some chili powder to add to my pad thai. Also, one of my favorite dishes to order is their Tom Yum Noodle Soup. I love noodle soup so when I'm craving for some, that's my go-to dish at My Thai! It's flavorful and very filling! And of course, I added chili powder to it. So good! They also add lots of fish balls, sliced fish cakes, chopped up shrimps, and ground pork into the noodle soup along with bean spouts, lettuce, chopped green onions. It's definitely really good, when the weather is cold out. And of course, I can't NOT ORDER a thai iced tea with my meal. Their thai iced tea is a perfect amount of sweetness, according to my taste buds--but then again, I have a sweet tooth. Wow, this was a bit of a downer! It is a beautiful restaurant and we wanted to go for a long time. Ever since beeing in the USA I developed this craving for Thai food, I never had that in germany but it grew on me here. And I am not mad at me for it. And we have some great restaurants in San Rafael for it. So when we walked in we got seated at a table near a big group. They have been very loud and noisy, which of course is not the fault of the restaurant. But it shows that the acoustic is a bit off. But we are here for a good night, at least it was our dinner night and that is why we just wanted to enjoy the evening. Well, the two waiters for the evening have been busy with the big group so it took a while to take our order. We ordered the fried tofu and the chicken spring roll. It took a while until the came to the table but it was worth the wait. both have been outstanding, both came also with a peanut and sweet and sour dip. All in all very delicious! Five stars right there! And we thought, well if that is already that good, we expected it to be even better with the main. The main would be crab pad thai and My Thai Special Plate with chicken. We got disappointed. Both were very dry, I mean we are at a Thai place - normally you can take the sauce or broth with you home and that much you get. NOt here, there was no sauce to either of our dishes. It both had fresh ingredients but other than that it was tasteless, bland. And my chicken dish had maybe a small hand full of chicken. To be honest we had to go to another place to get more food to be not hungry any longer. The service was literally not there. We have been asked what we want to order, it was brought to the table that was it. When we closed the check we did not even been asked how the food was! We have been sitting in a great place near the window but the window is not closing properly so we constantly have been sitting in a draft. Especially when the door was opened. We didn't ask them to move us, since a) the waiter was not even close to asking and b) we saw that they have been "busy" with the big group. Well for sure we - again - now sometimes nice decor does not make up for a kitchen, and sometimes a restaurant that looks like a soup kitchen is a very good place to enjoy food! One star down for service that was not able to handle a full restaurant. The noodle had good flavor with a heavy seasoning of basil. The phad Thai was flavorless and had no spice even though we ordered it med/hot. The cat fish was OK-the green beans were undercooked and didn't make for a good accompaniment to the fish. The flavor was just meh. I've been here before and the food is usually much better. I'm thinking because we came in right as they opened maybe they didn't quite have the kitchen ready to go or something. It was just mediocre today. Found a worm in the food. Went out as a group of 13 people as we headed back from Point Reyes, we ordered plenty of dishes and found a medium sized worm. Couldn't take a picture as when we showed it to the waiter they immediately took it to the kitchen and disposed it off. We didn't want to make it a safety issue - as we assumed it was a mistake, but the restaurant wanted us to pay for the whole meal and offered us a discount of 20%. It was never about not paying for food. It was all about unhygienic conditions- after a lot of negotiations we ended up paying for the appetizers we ate. Unhygienic condition is one thing, and then not acknowledging is on another level. read more
