Carrie, the owner and as far as I know, the sole employee is AWESOME! She charges $18 for a 20 minute visit. It's great to know that we can go to work and Saxony (our blind Weimareiner) is taken care of. On a couple of occasions, she came 3 times in one day when we were both stuck at work. Amen. Carrie is great! She is professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating and she took great care of my dog while I was away. Prior to agreeing to take her on, she did a consultation to make sure she was safe to have in her home with the other dogs. Everything went well, so I dropped her off and she stayed for two and a half days. During that time Carrie was kind enough to answer my nervous texts for updates on how my dog was doing. The rest of the time, "No news was good news!" Carrie's home, where the dogs are kept, was clean and welcoming, and she has a nice partitioned backyard where the dogs can go out. She was careful to separate big dogs from smaller dogs that would be afraid of them, which was one of my big criteria since my small dog is nervous around the big ones. There were a lot of dogs and her house is not huge, but she definitely had things under control and the dogs seemed happy and relaxed. I much prefer this set-up to my dog sitting in a kennel all weekend. At Carrie's she was loose in a home environment with other dogs to interact with and a person to hang out on the couch with. Prices were very reasonable and a lot of the dogs she had in her home when I visited were from regular clients, which was a good sign. The house is located in a residential neighborhood, which was a little tricky to get to but I did just fine with GPS. Parking is on the street and there was no issue finding a spot. read more

If I could give 10 Stars I definitely would do that. I am overdue on my review so "here we go" as Bruce Buffer would say. I got a new puppy for Valentines Day and I do travel a bit after the month of March throughout the year. A co-worker recommended Carrie and because she knows her personally, it was a go for me. I contacted Carrie and we met her at her place and talked about Crixus and what we needed. At this time she was observing our fur baby and his interaction with other dogs. He was 4 months and maybe 6 pounds (Shih Tzu). She gave us the stamp of approval. Carrie is the best in the business, her place is VERY dog friendly, she's an experienced Vet Tech, and loves her profession and her clients. Everytime my boyfriend dropped off the fur baby, Crixus is always eager to get in the door and hit the floor and peddle for Carrie....she never ever gets angry at Crixus for his accidents. I love the fact that I can leave Crixus with Carrie and if he encounters an illness or any accident, she will immediately know what to do. That a peace of mind for any dog owner. We tend to go on quiet a few getaways and our "go to" is Carrie. Every time we go on a getaway, Crixus does too. Every time we pick him, he is so happy to see us and by the time we get him home, he is knocked out. I am glad we brought Crixus here as soon as we got him, he is so well behaved around humans and other dogs. He is still a small little guy and when we take him to the dog park or on a walk, he knows how to interact with all dogs of all sizes. I owe this behavior to Carrie because of the environment she created for our fur baby....There is no one else I can trust to give my fur baby the same amount of love as we do except Carrie especially when we are miles away. She introduced herself to my girl (blind golden ret.) and really took time to get to know her. She did a demo walk with us to show me (calm me down) she knew how to listen to my girl. Another time I was on my way to the ER and I called her and asked her to tend to my little one and she did! No questions asked, she went over and made sure my girl was calm and safe. She even texted me letting me know that she she was alright. It was a great comfort to know that someone that caring was there for my girl when I was unable to. read more

Carrie is the best dog sitter I have ever had. My girl is fragile to say the least and I was concerned about leaving her with anyone. Despite my anxiety every time I would come pick up my dog she was happy, and even seemed more confident overall. Her time with the other dogs under Carrie's watch has been great for her. Absolutely splendid person and business. I've been doing business with Carrie since 2010. We first hired her to help walk and then board two elderly dogs who needed medication because of both acute and chronic illnesses. Thank heaven she was also an ICU vet tech as a previous career because she was undaunted and incredibly trustworthy about reporting our sick dog's symptoms and progress to us when we had to go out of town because of an elderly parent's illness. They've stayed with Carrie countless times while we had to attend to elderly parents or take occasional vacations. As we drive up to her house the dogs bark with delight! She occasionally sends us little movies of the dogs when we miss them. We've since adopted two rescue pups and she's helping us with walks and boarding for all four dogs. Everyone of them loves her. I can highly recommend Carrie and The Urban Dog to take care of your family (pets). Our pets are like our family and we want to do the very best for them. That said, we are also cost concious. Carrie is both highly skilled and affordable. I can safely say that we have not compromised care at all while being able to affordably care for our pets. In fact, I know we are getting a great deal. Just don't tell her that. She may raise her fees! We have dogs (and fish) and we have been able to count on Carrie to take care of their special medical and emotional needs. We have never had to worry about our "children" getting their medication when they have been ill and we can trust her informed observations about their conditions. The curtain was pulled back for me and I am in shock. I thought I knew this person, but clearly I did not. I never asked the right question; are my dogs unsupervised? Carrie used to offer pickup and drop off, so I never saw what was going on at her place. Shame on me. What I found there was my animals were being exposed to unsupervised, bully breeds while Carrie goes out to work all day and out for the evenings; I was paying money for nothing and putting my dogs at risk. Dogs in crates crying and barking, did she put my dogs in crates and for how long? Might as well go to a kennel which is what this is. These unfamiliar dogs get into an argument while unsupervised, which is routine and your pet could be injured or killed If you leave your pet with her overnight, ask her what she does with your pet while she is out all day walking other peoples pets. I found the answers troubling, she is expensive and I have paid her a fortune. I feel so stupid that I fell for this, yes she is nice until you ask a few questions or interrupt happy hour. I paid her in advance for time and she refused to honor it, suddenly she became a dog walking attorney for why she did not have to honor our agreement. I have scene her true colors, the curtain is pulled back, I am deeply offended. I no longer trust her, I am done with her. Hats off to Migrate H for exposing this, I am so slow it took me years to figure it out. read more

Unfortunately our second experience here was very disappointing. We dropped our dog off for the weekend and when we picked her up, we learned that the owner was gone for the majority of the day Saturday then again for a little while on Sunday. Sadly, our dog (and I assume the rest of the dogs there) spent MOST of the day Saturday locked up in her cage. She did have a dog walker come to let them out at some point, but at $50/day, we expect to not have our dog locked up all day. We could have left her at our own house if we knew better. She doesn't advertise as "cage free" boarding, but if she was going to be out all day for personal reasons, she should have had someone house sit for her so the dog owners could get what they paid for and not have to worry about leaving their dogs alone for that long. We will not be using her again. read more

My dogs have such a good time at Carrie's that when I pick up them up, I often wonder whether they are sad to leave. Can't say enough great things about Carrie! My Alfie LOVES her and her doggy play house. My 4.5 yo, male, maltese/mix, Alfie, gets so excited as we drive up to her house. Carrie has helped my Standard Poodle "ROCKY" for a few months shy of 5 years. Sometimes I go months at a time needing no help and sometimes my schedule suddenly changes so that I need to board Rocky for a few WEEKS or just an over night stay. Or perhaps I just need a few dog walks because our schedules at home are not jibing. Carrie is always willing to work around our schedule. She is also a great source of advice when I have a medical or behavioral question regarding Rocky. Carrie is patient and understanding with Rocky, but what I appreciate the most is that she doesn't let Rocky misbehave. She is gentle but "in charge"...I would want the same type of supervision at a child care center to keep my children safe. Carrie is amazing :) I have a pitbull who I rescued last year, and it has been an adventure with her. Apart from high anxiety and energy, she has horrible allergies which cause her to get hot spots, chew on her paws, and get all kinds of other nasty allergic reactions. I first started having Carrie come to walk my dog (Dixie) when I would be at work for long periods of time, since it seemed she would always be a mess when I got home. When I began to think of going on vacations, I panicked! Where would I ever be able to find someone capable of taking care of my freaky dog?! I should have known that Carrie would be willing and able to take care of such a basket case dog. I have left Dixie with Carrie several times over the past year, and each time when I come back for Dixie her skin looks increasingly better. Because of the extraordinary care that Carrie gave Dixie, she no longer has to wear a cone constantly to keep her from tearing herself apart, and her skin has almost fully recovered from the bloody stinky mess that it has become :( Carrie is extremely knowledgeable about dogs and their individual temperaments, and is truly a blessing for me and my dog. I never thought I would be comfortable leaving such a difficult dog with anyone, but I can always be sure that I will get my dog back looking and acting even better than when I left her. The Urban Dog is the best in San Diego we've found so far. Our labs, Remus and Luna, stayed with Carrie for almost a week. We were fed up with the other kennel we had them in, so we were looking for something more "homey" with an environment in which they could be in a yard and run about as they wish. This is exactly that place. As soon as I met Carrie and saw the grounds, I felt good about leaving them there as I knew they would have a blast and be treated like one of her own. The price is really reasonable too. The "other place" wanted to charge us extra just to allow our dogs use the bathroom on grass. Really? So, overall this place is the best. We have two little yappers (aka Chihuahuas), and needed them looked after while we went camping for a few days. On short notice, Carrie agreed to take them in. She is a wonderful person who loves her critters. My kids love their dogs, but Julio vied heavily for their attention. If you've been to Carrie's house, you probably know Julio. Carrie is outstanding. I work and travel a ton and Carrie minds my big sweet Golden for me whether I am here (daily walks) or away (boarding). My pooch comes with medical issues and is often on meds - Carrie has it down and I know that my dog gets her treatments on time and that they are properly administered. Most importantly, I appreciate her love and understanding of the animals. She has an outstanding sense about the dogs and manages them in a way that they stay safe and relaxed. The hyper ones can play, the mellow ones can be quiet, and the ones that need to be watched around others are not left alone. Carrie is great. My girlfriend and I left for St. Louis over Thanksgiving break, and were extremely worried about our dogs. We refused to kennel them (too many horror stories), so decided to leave them in our own home and try Urban Dog's services, finding everything from yelp. One of our dogs is the perfect angel, the other...not so much. She is a rescue dog nearly 5 years of age we adopted in Feb. and has extreme behavioral and anxiety issues as she was abused and neglected before we rescued her. My girlfriend and I were terrified of how anyone could handle our precious girl because she lets no human touch her besides us (we take them to dog parks every day). From what we saw upon on our return, both dogs loved Carrie. Carrie was willing to clean up our little girl's mishaps in the house without a problem, and followed all of our neurotic orders without complaint, and even better, without judgment. It was a major plus that she is a former vet tech as well since our boy dog was throwing up the day we left. The next best thing is she had no problem with us calling her from time to time to check on our kids (our dogs, of course). Plus, her prices are the cheapest we found of anyone in SD. Overall, a great experience and we will not hesitate to call her again when we need a dog sitter/walker for us. read more

I recently hired Carrie to do evening walks and feeding for my 3 dogs when I went on a 2 week vacation. She was recommended by a mutual friend. When she came over for the initial visit with her back-up person to meet the dogs, she seemed great. She was very friendly, down to earth, and honest. She said she ordinarily didn't take care of dogs not staying at her house but because we were referred by a friend, she would do it for us. She said she would come in a 2 hour window since she couldn't promise an exact time every day. That was OK with me. I had my friend who lives on the property taking care of morning walks and feeding and bedtime potty breaks. This was explained to Carrie and she met the friend when she came over. All seemed good and I went out of town feeling relieved my dogs were going to be well looked after. Well, it's a good thing my friend was around! According to her, Carrie was not friendly, even almost hostile when she saw my friend. She would show up sometimes very late after 8 pm. Once she didn't come at all and didn't even phone or text! Another time she told my friend she was sick and didn't walk the dogs, just fed them (I thought she had a back-up person?). One time she left full poop bags sitting on the front porch and didn't bother to deposit in the trash. I shudder to think what would have happened if my friend hadn't been around. We were very clear to explain to Carrie that we needed her services because my friend works at home and couldn't take care of the dogs full time. It seems she acted like, well you're here why do I need to come? She also didn't bother to double-lock back door, rinse a spoon or put cans in recycling in 2 weeks time, despite everything being clearly labeled. My friend scrubbed down kitchen before I returned. To Carrie's credit, she did fess up to missing a day and refunded the money to my friend for the day she didn't show up because we paid in full in advance. And she did collect my mail as requested. However I wouldn't hire her again because of her lack of professionalism. WTF not showing up? Not cleaning up after herself? She didn't even bother to text or call to make sure I arrived home. Haven't heard a peep from her. No thanks My Urban Dog, never again! read more

i was very nervous about leaving my puppy somewhere for the first time, particularly as i'd only gotten him a week earlier, but carrie was amazing. she's super knowledgeable and easy-going (he peed in her house when i took him to meet her, and she seemed fine with it), and i know my puppy had a great time there. it was also just a great chance for him to get more socialized and learn to play with other dogs. she charged me $45/day, though i don't know if she adjusts for size (my dog is very, very small) or age (like i said, he's a baby, so he pees everywhere). i'm not sure how this compares to other places, though someone told me they found somewhere on craigslist that would do it for $25/day. that being said, i feel a lot more comfortable spending that extra $20 and knowing the light of my life is happy and well cared for. i'm taking him there again in a few months, and i'll be able to travel worry-free knowing he's here. read more

I have two very lovable, very high maintenance dogs. And I'm a high maintenance owner who has NEVER left her babies with someone who was not either a close friend or a relative. That being said, I wanted and needed to find someone who I could trust to watch my dogs as I have no family here in SD. Here comes Yelp and Carrie at Urban Dog to the rescue. I found Carrie through Yelp, and once I met her I felt completely at ease leaving my two dogs with her. She has an obvious knowledge and innate understanding of the "pack" mentality. My two dogs stayed with her, in her home, and hanging out with the other dogs she was caring for. When I came back, the dogs were in great spirits and even though they had been true to their nature (trouble makers)... Carrie took it all in great stride.
