Half a block away you will see the orange sign of Home Depot. And about a block and a half away, you will see Trader Joe's located under the 59th St., Bridge. So if you need a reason to come to FIRST AVENUE..., you have Trader Joe's and Home Depot waiting for you, and Rodney's too, and a nearby Starbucks. We informed the bartender that we were gluten free and started with the tuna tartar gluten free (no soy sauce). It came out with regular bread which the bartender quickly absconded from the runner as it was not gluten free. I appreciated the urgency and thanked him. By the time the gluten free flatbread came out, we had taken a bite of the tuna. It was warm, and it tasted like it's been left out for a while. The color you see in the picture is not filtered. We thought maybe it was the lighting above the bar, but sadly, it wasn't. When we were asked if we were ready to order entrees, I explained to the bartender that we need the check because that tuna was absolutely awful and should never be served to a guest. He looked bewildered but gave us the check. We were charged $25 for that obviously expired tuna tartar. Now that I've checked Yelp, I see that the restaurant has multiple health code violations. I'm not surprised given the lack of quality and complete disregard for guest service. Sadly, another once fine restaurant is off my list of places to go.

We've been on a Middle Eastern kick lately, so the restaurant caught my eye. What sealed that deal, however, was their $45 Restaurant Week menu. I'm new to Restaurant Week, so I had my reservations about the program. I feared the meals would be scaled back in size, that we would walk out still hungry. How wrong I was. We left, bellies bursting at the seams with delicious food. Every single item was a standout. Each bite elicited praise. Our drinks were phenomenal, particularly their fruit juice, which I could only describe as the drink of the gods. It came as a pitcher with a whole sliced peach. It was sweet, light, and refreshing. The peach was so sweet, almost candied. I loved it so much. The vegetables in the qartuli salata were fresh. The vinaigrette had a wonderfully nutty aftertaste. The phkhali trio were herby and fresh, with a very, very slight bitterness, almost undetectable but just there, not dissimilar to sumac. The khachapuri was crispy yet tender, the cheese filling so creamy, so gooey, so salty. I loved this dish most of all. The salmon dish paired wonderfully with the mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, and what I can only describe as a balsamic drizzle. My absolute star of the show, the ideali, was a marvel. The condensed milk frosting was so delicate and so were its layers of honey walnut sponge. I melted in my seat with each bite. It was unlike anything I've had before. It will be a dish I will long for. Oda House is a neighborhood gem. Come here, and you'll be thinking about it for a very, very long time.
