If you're a fan of the movie, Mystic Pizza is absolutely worth visiting. Half the fun is soaking up the nostalgia and checking a classic destination off your list. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean the restaurant was. Everything was spotless and sparkling, which made a great first impression. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was bubbly, cheerful, and wore the biggest smile the entire time we were there. She checked on us often without ever being intrusive and genuinely made us feel welcome. As for the food, I think Mystic Pizza sometimes gets an unfair reputation. Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. But it's definitely good .... you just have to order the right things. The seafood pizza was surprisingly delicious and one I'd happily order again. One thing I would skip, however, is the garlic knots. Unfortunately, they were so hard they were difficult to eat. The only other suggestion I'd make is to update some of the movie posters. Many have become sun-faded over the years, and replacing them would really brighten the space and enhance the nostalgic atmosphere. Overall, don't come expecting the greatest pizza of your life. Come because it's an iconic piece of movie history with friendly service, a spotless dining room, and a fun atmosphere. If you keep those expectations in mind, I think you'll leave happy. Also the whalers seltzer ( blueberry lemonade) is phenomenal!!!!

I wouldn't have necessarily chosen to go here, but my friend really wanted to go. I am glad we did. We sat at the counter and had a slice. I was grateful they sold pizza by the slice, as we had just enjoyed a GIGANTIC lunch. It is probably overpriced, but the girls working here that day were so very sweet and nice to talk to. I know it is iconic, but honestly I'm not sure I've ever really seen the whole movie in all its glory. Convenient location at the end of the Mystic main drag. Lots of people, but we had no problem getting a seat. They were kind enough to give me a refill of my Diet Coke to take with me. We bought a couple magnets as souvenirs and walked back to where I parked at the opposite end. Beautiful walk and tasty treat in a cute seaside town.

A day trip today for a pizza? Yep! We drove the 100+ miles to Mystic, Connecticut to visit Mystic Pizza! Really terrific pie! The place was jamming! We were lucky to get a place to sit in the bar area. We prefer that so we can kabitz with the bar tender. We both ordered their Iced Tea. It had great flavor! We opened with Cheesy Garlic Bread. It was served with marinara and totally delicious! For our meal we ordered their Seafood Pizza and a Meatzza Pizza. They both came out relatively quickly and were absolutely amazing! For those of you that might remember, there was a movie by that name in 1988 starring a then unknown Julia Roberts!

I can see why CT is the pizza capital of the US. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to pizza and I can say I absolutely will miss this pizza now that I'm back on the west coast. I like the concept of the toppings being under a layer of cheese. The flavor of everything, including the crust was delicious. Even the leftovers, unheated, tasting great. Definitely worth a stop.

Not the actual filming location. From what their menu says, a writer based her story-which eventually was made into a film with Julia Roberts in 1988, on this place, whilst summering in Mystic, Connecticut. It's more a bar that serves food. I accept responsibility for not doing my research beforehand. The people leaving as we entered gave it a thumbs down, which gave us pause. So, we perused the menu and saw the $20 spaghetti plate for lunch and the pizza options and left, taking it as a sign. There were some faded novie pictures referencing the film, yay.

OBVIOUSLY we had to go to mystic pizza. As a ny'er im biased because i know we have the best pizza but that being said it was still fun to come here and the pizza and experience itself was really great. Our waitress melainey was wonderful, especially when my dad ended up experiencing low blood sugar. She zipped into action and speedily got him orange juice and was like, "I'm an emt if anything happens!" We got there at 11:30 and were sat upstairs outside right away but I'd imagine it gets packed. And being from long island I had to get the fire island cocktail which was delicious. I also loved that we could do half pepperoni on the small pizza which was perfect size to share!

Mystic Pizza holds such a special place in my heart. This was one of the last places I visited with a group of my girlfriends during a weekend trip to Mystic, and it meant a lot to finally experience a spot tied to one of my favorite movies. We ordered onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and, of course, the pizza. Everything felt so nostalgic from start to finish--the atmosphere, the food, even getting a picture with the Julia Roberts poster upstairs. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and seating us at the top of the restaurant made it feel even more memorable. Looking back, this visit is something I'll always carry with me, especially in memory of a dear friend who has since passed. It's a bittersweet feeling, and while I may not return because of that, I truly cherish the experience. The pizza itself was enjoyable--crispy with a buttery flavor and a nice layer of cheese. Some at the table thought it leaned a bit standard, but for me, it exceeded expectations and made the moment even more special.

Clam Chowder to die for. 10/10

I was in town and the group wanted something to eat and they decided on this little spot because it had great reviews. Since this place had a tie in with the movie Mystic Pizza, they had the movie running in the place which was really nice. However, I never saw the movie and neither of my group did either. Just to be fair in this review, My group had already had been seated and ordered by the time I came in. Parking is a bear. I found the atmosphere very comforting with families having a great time talking and enjoying meals. Their was a line for people to get in which is always a good sign. My table had ordered pizza, wings, drinks. Since I came late I ordered a Salad and a bowl of clam chowder. When the pizza came it was a good size pizza one was a meat lovers and the other was pepperoni. By the time I got my order they had almost killed the first pizza and the meat lovers was going down for the count. I was able to get two slices but I had to hit it quick. The pizza was a work of art. Rich thick flavor sauce that you can tell was freshly made with home ingredients that made me think they actually pick up the vegetables that very second to make this fresh hot pizza. The bite on the slice was juicy but not oily like some pizza. My only negative was that I could not get another slice to save my life. My salad was a Caesar Salad that was so big. I shared it with my wife and sister in law. They enjoyed it. that bowl it came it was almost as big as the table. We were having an issue because the pizza's and the other dishes we had ordered made space on the table very limited. My star of my meal was the Clam Chowder. OMG. This one was the best Chowder I have ever had outside of Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco. Rich and thick. Spot on. I only wish they served it in a bread bowl like on the docks in Frisco. I am a fan. Who ever make this I was taken away 10/10/ Summary. my family enjoyed the meal and the service was excellent and friendly. Recommended Yes Yes Yes. I live in Maryland and I would drive 6 more hours to have this again. Cheers!!

The food was mostly very good. The daily soup was amazing! The garlic knots chewy like reheated in microwave. The Mediterranean pizza was amazing crust on point. The service was good and helpful. The place still nostalgic vibe, mystic pizza great movie, first mention of my Portuguese people. Will be back!

The pizza here was incredible. The crust was doughy, but crunchy. The toppings were fantastic. They had a lot of fun specifically pizzas to choose from, we had a hard time making a decision! I always love a pizza place where you can sit down and have an actual meal (I hail from the takeout pizza Mecca.) They have a full bar and a good cocktail menu. The service was slightly quirky, but everything else was so good we'll ignore that.

Super charming place in Mystic, the ambience is only made better by the super attentive staff and they were very accommodating when we had extra people join us for dinner. Not only was the pizza one of my favorites but the garlic knots were hot and fresh, the chicken wings were super crispy and the meatballs just the right amount of seasoning and super delicious.

We were in town for an event, and decided to try Mystic Pizza. Our expectations were not elevated because of the novelty and hype. The pizza was amazing! The pizza crust was baked a beautiful lightly brown color. It was delicate, tender and crispy all at once. We ordered the Margherita to share and just loved the freshly chopped garlic, tomatoes and fresh basil. It was so delicious and so much more than I expected. The staff is friendly and kind. Our waitress placed our order and was very attentive. The restaurant is decorated with the movie memorabilia as expected. It's adorable! They even had the movie playing as we had our lunch. It is charming!

Margarita pizza..... so fresh and delicious

We came here because we were in Mystic and I saw the movie as a kid, so, of course we had to. It did not disappoint. The pizza was delicious and the servers were so friendly and really great. We got some merch and I must say, it was just a really fun visit.

    Do they have vegan cheese?

I am not able to provide an answer to that question.

    Is there wheelchair access?

The doors were wider. There are 2 levels. I'm struggling to recall if there were any steps to the front door. I do believe there was parking in back and a rear entry. I'm certain a call to the restaurant would clear all of that up instantly.

Is it waiter and waitress service or order at the counter and they will bring it to your table type of service?

    Waiter/waitress service :)

Is there gluten free pasta available?

There isn't any gluten free pasta options but there is a gluten free crust available.

    Can I bring my dog?

    No.

Is there gluten free options for Pizza?

Yes, they do offer a gluten free pizza crust option.

So is there vegan pizza here? Don't get our hopes up marking vegan options if you mean a salad or veggie burger

I'm not sure if I saw it I might of. However I'm sure if you ask they might be able to make it for you. I would call in advance and ask. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.

Ordering was very easy online, even though the prices seemed a bit high. We ordered $109 worth of food...Arancini ($16), garlic bread with cheese($16), Penne al Vodka with sautéed chicken($32), and the Alfredo with chicken cutlet($38). I was expecting a lot for prices like these. The Arancini were 5 pieces the size of golf balls and the flavor was ok, not worth $16, out garlic bread with cheese ($16) was left out of our order, the penne vodka with sautéed chicken ($32) was dry and there were 5 small pieces of chicken, and the baked penne chicken Alfredo had broken sauce, full of grease and almost inedible...I threw out most of it. I expected so much more from this establishment. The parking lot was packed and parking just to get takeout was challenging, but the food and prices were amazingly disappointing. We may try their pizza to see if that is any better, but I would not recommend the pasta dishes. I can see charging g prices like that if the pasta was homemade, but even that is a stretch. 3 stars is generous

The chips appeared to be homemade, and they were tremendous along with the salsa Verde and Macha. There was a nice kick to the salsas and a perfect crunch from the chips. However, it just felt like the dish was mostly chips. I felt like more toppings could be added or an additional egg. The fried egg was also a little overcooked, guess when ordering, we could have specified how we wanted it to be cooked. The doughnut was okay. The sourdough base was very solid, but essentially just a lot of cheese on top. I was not sure what to expect regarding this type of doughnut, but this was the least optimal choice. Will I go back? The historic building was originally home to the American Velvet Company, which operated from 1892 to 1996. The American bistro with a weekly-changing menu soon won numerous awards and accolades. By 2024, the couple opened a new restaurant in the Velvet Mill. This time they would focus on artisanal wood-fired sourdough pizza as well as sandwiches, salads, and other delicious treats. Named for the "back door" of the Velvet Mill, the pizzeria soon won its own accolades. My sons and I recently had lunch at Back Door. I've visited the Velvet Mill numerous times, but this was my first visit since Back Door opened. After looking of the menu, we all decided to order and share the "Margherita" (fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato sauce, EVOO) and the "CBR" (house ranch, bacon, chicken, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, everything spice, lemon, dill). After ordering, we picked a table right by the pick-up window so we could watch the kitchen crew at work. Both pizzas had great crust that was crispy on the outside and yet chewy on the inside. The fresh ingredients gave the pies some rich flavors with a nice smoky finish. I really liked the "Margherita", but it was the topping combo on the "CBR" that left me really impressed. I washed everything down with a bottle of locally-produced Hosmer Mountain Birch Beer. We were all very happy with our lunch.
