The breast was cooked quite well and paired really well with the balsamic vinegar and risotto! Risotto was cooked good and was creamy! The parking was a little rough but that's to be expected in this area. I was seated in a tiny area in front of the window. It was a bit tight but cozy. The service was good. I went with the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were huge and the pasta dish was pretty good. The person I was with had the ravioli. They didn't find their pasta to be as good as it was priced. Yesterday for fathers Day we hung around in Mystic. It was a beautiful day . This was my first time at AJs Bistro, that's where my dad wanted to go for lunch so why not! It's his day! It was a cute restaurant, on the dark side inside but the patio seating was super cute!! We were greeted and chose where to sit. It was lunch time and not many people were sitting outdoors yet, it was still Kind of early. Service was wonderful!! Menu had a variety of salad, apps, seafood and pasta. Portions looked small but very filling. For those who are GF, only pasta was able to be made GF and there was the salads of course. No separate GF menu, . 4 stars for the bread and the drinks. 2 stars for the Marsala sadly! I looked it up on yelp ahead of time and wanted the marsala for the beautiful pieces of chicken and pillowy looking gnocchi. What I got was some pasta that wasn't gnocchi and 1 chicken tender cut up into 3 pieces. For 3 people we ordered: 2 drinks each, shared 1 salad and bread, each had an entree and shared dessert. Total was $300 for 3. Not the cheapest not the most expensive but I'd say the quality of the Marsala has gone infinitely downhill in the past couple years. Oh well! This is another favorite restaurant that my husband and I have been going to for over 20 years. The food is delicious! It is a quaint Italian restaurant. We stopped in for happy hour and sat outside under the covered patio. It is a lovely little Oasis where you can dine al fresco. This was the first time dining on the side patio and it was perfect weather for it. They have heaters that we later turned on above our umbrella and it was cozy. We ordered Everything on the happy hour menu and shared. We had the Caesar salad, broccoli rabe with Italian sausage, rigatoni and meatball, and calamari. A wonderful assortment. We later decided to stay for dinner and waited for my daughter's boyfriend to join us. For dinner, I had the carbonara with parpadelle noodles. A creamy Alfredo sauce with Italian sausage, bacon, mushrooms and peas. A very generous amount of protein but I wished I could've more noodles! However, it was the right amount because I was stuffed! My husband had the soupy and garlic pizza. The soupy was not spicy and the garlic was spot on. The crust was a thin crispy crust, very enjoyable. My daughter enjoyed her lobster Roll and side Caesar salad. It was on a buttered hot dog roll and filled to the brim with lobster. Her boyfriend had the chicken parm with rigatoni and he ate it right up! A generous piece of chicken and the sauce homemade. I highly recommend visiting Anthony J's while in Mystic. Everything about this place was amazing. We ordered the fried mozzarella and I've never had better! The red sauce was the best I've ever tasted. For dinner we had a special of steamed "hot rock" fish, scallops, calamari, halibut and shrimp. It was accompanied with a Caesar salad. Both were very yummy. The cocktails and dessert were also very tasty. Our server was friendly and attentive. We dined outside which was perfect. Many menu items are made in-house from scratch. We ordered salads but they never came and so when the meal finally came we told waitress to cancel the salad. She said oh yeah I forgot... yes it would of been nice to have her come while we waited 45 minutes for our meal. She never came back to table. The service was horrible. The food was tasty but expensive. No salad or bread included. The chicken Parmesan dinner was $32 and pizza $24 was costly too. House Salad would of been $12. Stopped in while visiting Mystic and I'm glad I did. My boyfriend and I sat outside in the back which is a super cute seating area. Unfortunately I forgot my ID (23 but could probably pass for 17) and really, really wanted to try the pumpkin martini. We didn't plan on drinking that night but I absolutely was going to make an exception for a pumpkin martini ! So I can't give any feedback on that, but just know it's there. As for food, We started with the garlic bread which was probably my favorite thing of the night. A ton of garlic which I love, great contrast of soft bread and crunch, and a generous portion! I got the housemade stuffed eggplant and it was amazing! Perfect amount of orzo and cheese. My boyfriend and I liked it even better than his lasagna! The lasagna was also great; it included sausage the day we were there. Overall this is a good place if you're craving Italian in Mystic! Would love to fly back to try that pumpkin martini. read more

I can't review the food because we didn't get a chance to order. The host seated us on a weekday evening when the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. We waited for a server to check in with us and take our drink order. And waited, and waited. Another small group was seated long after we were and a server swooped in quickly to get their drink order without a glance at us. We waited at least 15 minutes in all, and then we decided to leave for somewhere that wanted our business. This was our second stop on our dinner date. The ambiance was amazing. We sat near the bar, which was busy, but didn't bother us at all. We had a choice of the happy hour menu and the regular menu. Went to Anthony J's for dinner yesterday, 08/26 Food was excellent however compliance under Ct Covid rules had a lot to be desired. Ct is not allowed to have there bars open. The bar here was open with 2 patrons sitting at it It did have plexi glass between bartender and customers. However the bartender decided not to wear a mask and a full conversation with the 2 patrons Only when a neweed customet sat down at thr bar did she put her mask on He stayed about 4 minutes and left.She immediately took off het mask!! The biggest problem here is the full hour we spent at the restaurant she continued to make multiple mixed drinks without a mask. NO EXCUSE!!!!! read more

Great Italian place off the main street! They were able to seat us right away on a Friday night. For appetizer, we shared the veal meatballs. It seemed to be the one to try as everyone around us also got the meatballs. I thought they were pretty good but nothing too special. I really, really loved the dip that they served with their bread and even asked the waiter how they make it so I could try to re-create it back home. He said there was olive oil, balsamic and garlic which seems pretty standard but for some reason to me, it tasted much better than everywhere else I had. For entrees, I had their seafood risotto and my friend got their bolognese. The risotto was a bit too runny for my liking but I tried my friend's bolognese and it was delicious! For dessert, we shared their chocolate lava cake which had a salted caramel gelato on it. Interesting combination but it worked! read more

Long long time patrons but will Never come back Sat At bar..not a familiar face from our many visits ordered Lasagna and a pasta dish Was not overly busy s...it took forever, over 30 minutes for main courses to come out Finally came Pasta Dish was totally wrong They left my dish in front of me..I did ask..how long before my date gets her meal fixed.."it will only take a minute" sat there staring at My lasagna ..waiting , and waiting...asked gal (bartender) who took order..she had no answer.. After 20 minutes asked for manager..lady came out..we said.."you know, we are now almost an hour..I have had my meal in front of me which I really wanted to eat with my date..it's now cold and you can't give me any update?...gal who took our order, a young bartender kept her back turned to us the entire time..never once saying she apologies ...managers only answer was.."you know what, we're busy and we all make mistakes"..I said again..."are the really the manager"..she said yes"...I said, you know we have been here no less than 20 times...do you think it's wrong for me to have wanted to eat my meal with my date and on top of that, it's been over 50 minutes for her meal and still nothing..zero remorse...only a "sir, we all make mistakes"...when my date said.."i have been in the this business for over 15 years, the gal who took our order, who is standing next to you, has not once looked at us nor apologized to us...what kind of message are you giving here?"..manager covered for the gal, said it's nobodies fault...when we said.."well you just lost long time patrons "...answer was..it's that how you feel then ok...un real...what a sad state of management...and we referred easily 50 people to this place...never again read more

On vacay in Mystic and on our last day had a bad craving for pasta. It was raining and with COVID limiting seating in most places to the patio choices were less than abundant. Excited by the Calimari option on the menu we chose Anthony J's. Calimari was a mess. Looked like it was thrown on the plate by a rushed high school student trying to turn a science project in on time. Tasted ok, but many pieces oddly breaded and many others overcooked. I had the lasagna which was a mistake. Water oozed from the slab of pasta on presentation, I later discovered 2 very large uncut tomatoes which were likely the water's etiology. I love pasta. I love tomatoes. I love garlic. I don't love bricks of ricotta. No subtlety no nuance no delicacy. Just a blob of cheese and a smothering of tomato sauce. Thankfully my wine selection and the service saved the meal. read more

I was in Mystic for the weekend and found this place only because there was an open parking spot right in front. I am so glad I did. Some of the best food I have ever had. I had the special which was sea bass and it was cooked to perfection!!! My girlfriend had the crusted halibut and when she had that first bite she locked eyes with me and said OMG. I was a little jealous of that fish because I thought only I could make her do that but hey it is what it is. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. My wife (who uses a wheelchair) and I had been in Mystic on a short vacation. We had been walking around looking for a place to have dinner and most places had crazy lines. We happened upon this place and noticed it didn't seem overly busy. We ordered the Pear Salad and the Grilled Peach and Prosciutto Pizza with Balsamic glaze. The pizza flavor profile sounded amazing and we were excited to try it out. Unfortunately, there was almost no flavor at all!! It was very disappointing. You'd expect sweet from grilled peaches and instead it was just very bland. If I didn't know they were peaches I wouldn't have even guessed that's what they were. The balsamic glaze also lacked any noticeable flavor. Our waitress (won't mention her name) was very inattentive and the new hostess was honestly the only highlight to our visit. It was her 4th day in the job and she was fantastic!! She tended to us more than our waitress did. The pear salad was pretty good and for dessert we split a cannoli. For the prices and the fact that the pizza was pricey and listed as their special it should've been much tastier and the service more attentive. Perhaps that is why they were the only place not busy. Also when we got ready to leave my wife needed to use the ladies room and worked her way through the place just to find out the bathroom wasn't wheelchair accessible. read more

We were stopping in Mystic for just an evening. The outdoor seating and Chicken parmigiana on the menu drew us here. It was not at all crowded but service was slow. A $14 cocktail was served in a pint glass. It was an average meal with not great service or anything special. Next trip we will go elsewhere! read more
