This has to be the best restaurant in the east side. I'm a local who has tried multiple restaurants over the years and I rank this top 3 for local food. The chef elevates traditional food to a whole new level. The food taste was great, presentation was also great. Service was 10/10. Highly recommend the mini alcapurrias, the chicken breast breaded in alcapurria and Grandma's favorite. The cocktails are very elevated and different, very delicious. Our family went on a quick trip for three days and stayed at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico. Nectar is a restaurant on the resort's grounds. The driver that brought us from the airport to the hotel could not say enough positive things about the restaurant. He highly recommended it and it didn't disappoint. My son ordered the Farm to Ocean as prepared and I ordered the same with the sauces on the side. I wasn't sure how the smokey bacon cheese sauce would be with the chimmichuri but they were both very good and I should've ordered it already on the dish. My husband had the chicken and absolutely loved everything on the plate. He said it was so flavorful that he enjoyed every minute of it. He didn't like the first drink he ordered but did like the rum flight. My son ordered the Flan for desert, the desert menu was not available online for some reason, and had to be presented to us. This was a delicious upscale authentic Puerto Rican restaurant at the Hyatt Grand Reserve in Rio Grande where we were staying. The acapuria appetizer, and desserts were really good, we were very impressed. My children enjoyed their l dinners off the kids menus as well. I will say that entrees, however, looked like they were trying to save money and took one and split it. We each got the Nectar bowl which sounded tantalizing. When it came out, they had given me my daughter's well done skirt steak and her my medium...ok no biggee we switched and it was delicious. But the small amount of rice, same serving of steak as my daughter with the tostones was no $35 meal...even at a high end resort. I know the island is going through some tough times, so I am sympathetic to that, but I don't want to feel like I'm being taken advantage of at this price point. We arrived at the resort and did not want to drive to a restaurant so we settled for Néctar. Initially we were seated indoors. Unfortunately there were a few large tables and the acoustics in this place were horrible. We were not near the large tables but I could not hear my husband who sat right next to me. Thankfully we asked to be moved and got seated in their outdoor space. Although they offer bug spray, we still got bug bites. So why 4 stars? Based on ambiance I would have given it 1 star but that is the fault of the architect and designer. The 4 stars is for the food. We enjoyed the dishes and drinks that we ordered. This is probably the only option if you're in the hyatt regency property area that's open for lunch, despite whatever the hotel website or receptionist say! After an incredibly delayed and frustrating time spent figuring out from staff what restaurant was open and serving any food on this property that lists 12 dining options, we landed here only to see it completely empty and noone to check in. Hestitant but hungry we walked into the kitchen and they said sit anywhere. The water and menus came 15-20 mins later. We ordered all vegetarian and veg accomodating dishes - a fried rice sort lf dish (group fav), stuffed fry chicken dish (second fav), mofongo, two desserts, and some drinks. Everything was decent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations for classic Puerto Rican dishes that we really enjoyed. In the quest to find a decent restaurant at the Hyatt resort, we stumbled upon this place as it was the only one that was not severely poorly rated. While the service was friendly, we found the food to be somewhat mediocre at best with prices that really reflect the resort. We ordered: * Tempura Shrimp - 5/10: while the sauces were good, the shrimp was overcooked and the batter wasn't super interesting * The Nest Seafood Salad - 4/10: every bit of seafood was overcooked * Nectar's Bowl - 7/10: the flank steak was super tender and delicious, the crab is a weird add on, the rice was a bit salty Overall, if you're looking to stay on the resort and really want to sit down and eat somewhere, then I'm pretty sure this is the only good pick. Booked the same day via opentable and was able to get a 5:45pm reservation during peak season. Check in took some time as the receptionist was really taking her time writing up some forms. Also got the skirt steak with shrimp with chimichurri sauce and French fries on the bottom and we loved that as well. And for appetizers, we got the shrimp tempura and wow, amazing. The food was excellent. It had great flavor and presentation. Even better than the food was our server Melanie!! She went above and beyond with us. It was my daughter's 14th birthday and we asked for fried cheese even though it wasn't on the menu. Melanie informed us that there was no fried cheese there. Very disappointing experience. Our visit to Néctar was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. We waited 1.5 hours for our main courses, with no real explanation. The waitress kept coming by to say the food was "coming out," but it never did--over and over again. The food itself was not worth the wait or the price. The salad was mediocre at best. We ordered the halibut, which was overpriced and clearly pre-frozen, despite me specifically asking before ordering whether the fish was fresh. That felt misleading. We originally wanted to order fish and were told they had red snapper--only to find out the only option was a 2.5 lb whole fish costing $103. That's absurd, so we passed. The other dish was a vegetarian "traditional" dish that arrived as a cement textured lump of bland, flavorless mush with a weird array of mismatched vegetables. When the food finally arrived, the manager brought it out himself and apologized with, "We're sorry about the long wait, we're doing the best we can." That's not a real apology, and no effort was made to compensate for the excessive delay or poor experience. Only after he saw how upset I was did he mutter that dessert would be "on the house." A $6 dessert does not make up for an hour and a half wait, overpriced food, and disappointing quality. Overall: poor service, misleading information about the food, long waits, and no meaningful accountability. Definitely not worth the time or money. I won't be returning. read more

The pork belly is a large piece mostly fat. Breaded chicken very good but not worth the price. You can get a very good one at your local diner or Churches or Popeyes. The grandma plate which is sirloin with stick fries. Okay if you like salty food. Best item was the house salad Dessert: Bread pudding flavorful but needs a sauce. Churros good. Our waitress was helpful and friendly and was able to suggest some dishes without cilantro which two persons in our party couldn't eat. The food was really delicious and flavorful. HUGE thank you to Giancarlos and the host (I didn't catch his name) for simply going above and beyond - I have a gluten intolerance and it was really nice of the host to call and triple check menu items. I ordered to go but got a chance to sit down with a glass of wine while my food was being prepared. Giancarlos came over to chat with me and shared some of his favorite menu items (mofongo being one of the dishes I ordered). My order consisted of del pilón: mofongo base, skirt steak (medium well) topped with creole sauce + a side of seasonal veggies. The hype is real!!! It truly was an experience (eating the leftovers as I type this). I plan to return tomorrow to dine in - the interior decor is beautiful. Neon lights, leafy green plants, beautiful light fixtures, and arguably the best restaurant on the resort. I was on vacation with my family in Puerto Rico and we decided to dine at Nectar. Now I will be honest and say that it's kind of dark, which was surprising since through our travels we notice that Puerto Rico is full of bright beautiful colors. But our server Yeriel was the bright spot of the evening he was so attentive and such a great listener. He would periodically check on us to make sure that we had what we needed.
