Sit where you like. Service- as previous reviewers commented, it's a minimal staff crew even on a Saturday night- when we went it was just two young ladies working the entire restaurant. No complaints about the service, our waitress was attentive and responsive to our needs. The restaurant was cold as others commented, bring a light jacket or wear sleeves. Music was good not too loud. Food- everything looked great but taste was overall basic/lacking. The empanadas seemed premade/drop and fry. I ordered rice and beans with grouper bites. The fish was hot and delicious but my rice had a mix of cooked and undercooked rice in it. Beans were fine. I personally did not care for the shrimp mofongo- the plantain was lacking a distinct flavor- almost seemed like corn or something was mixed in. The shrimp and yellow rice was the best, we enjoyed this most. We all had water but you will get bottled water. This is my preference but I saw in other reviews that people at least wanted an option for tap. There is a bar and maybe hookah? I saw the equipment but no one was actually doing it. Perfect spot for a quick breakfast. Very relaxed vibe. The revoltillo con vegetales is solid scrambled eggs with a bit of melted cheese and toast. We walked in and no one attended to us. I finally got a worker to notice us, and she just motioned us to go inside. After we were sat, the waitress came up to us for our order, and I asked her, in Spanish, what she recommends. I misspoke and the waitress immediately made a face, and it is with this casual disgust and annoyance that we were treated with the rest of the night. Our waitress often spoke in under 5 words, with snappy and apathetic responses. We were assured 30, and 45 minutes in, that the food was "coming out soon". Once we asked at the hour mark for the wait, it was the same empty assurance that it was coming soon. (Spoiler alert, it did not come soon). Our food took close to an hour and 15 minutes to come out. This place was not packed and we did not order anything special, just 7 reasonable guys ordering standard menu items. Most of the food was decent, but some of us ordered a pasta that arguably makes prison food in North Korea look gourmet. I am not sure why they were so rude or slow, but this was the genuine experience at Ana's Cafe. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Seriously, there are much better options around the area, restaurants where you'll leave the door with your dignity intact and your sanity untarnished. Please do not eat here. read more

We also requested water, but it never came. To make matters worse, they falsely claimed they didn't offer free water, likely because they didn't want to clean the cups afterward. Don't go! Find some place else to eat . This place was soooo slow and we were ignored by the waitresses because they are understaffed. The bartender was also waiting on tables and the other waitress was spending her time making hookah and didn't even look at us. After taking so long to take our order, only a few items came out that we ordered and most of the table waited a long time while others finished. When the food finally came out some of the group's main dishes were missing totally or they ended up being out of the items, but we weren't told until after we received some of the food. Some of our group left hungry and unfed so they ended up going to another place across the street. The food that did come out was hit or miss in terms of taste. Amazing! This place keeps getting better everyday. Anna is extremely nice and she will treat you like a princess or king. The menu is big and everyday they have a new special . She renovated the place and it looks beautiful. You can seat outside or inside, your choice. Outside she has a swing for pictures with the Puertorrican flag. The bathrooms are extremely clean. Where to begin? You know how sometimes you find really good food in a dumpy looking place? Yeah that's not the case here. We were hopeful but we should have left after we received microwaved empanadas that were still cold in the middle. Instead, we tried our luck with their "fresh" seafood. Fishy. Do not get the mahi mahi. Even if we chose the worst thing on the menu, the reheated empanadas are clue enough about the quality. The freshest part of the meal? The beans... or bottled water. The first time was awesome. We went back a second time and had a horrible experience. The server delivered all our food to the wrong table (who got there a good 10 minutes after us) and when we asked her nicely about it she got an attitude, said they ordered their food and it happened to come out first, but she would check it out. 7 minutes later she came back and said she made a mistake and didn't even say sorry or seem the least bit apologetic. Let's start with how beautiful the outside looks with the Puerto Rican flag and Dominican flag. I loved the swing outside. There is outdoor seating and indoor. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and seated right away. We have come here 3xs while on vacation and every time was delicious. I'm used to eating Puerto Rican/ Dominican food but this was better that what I grew up with- Sorry mom! The coffee is delicious. I love that they heat up the milk which makes it even better. This was the first restaurant I went to when I got to San Juan. The place looks unassuming but might be one of the best meals I've had here. Came here for breakfast one day after a recommendation during our stay on Calle Loiza. I wanted an authentic Puerto Rican breakfast and I got it! I had seen in other reviews that they had tres golpo (mangu, eggs, fried cheese, and salami), but it wasn't on the menu. I asked for it and the server said that it would take about 15 minutes and I was fine with that. It was so delicious and definitely worth the small wait. Best Place I have been to in years! Came to visit from New Jersey a few weeks ago and the first place my aunt took me was here, when I told her I wanted to eat some authentic Mofongo.
