Hidden Gem in Alhambra - Finally Tried It After 4 Years of Driving By!…read more I've lived in Alhambra for the last 4 years and drove past this place almost every day, always assuming it was just another hot pot spot. It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. If you're in Alhambra and love good food, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't go wrong here--highly recommend! 5 stars all the way.

The portion rice is very generous, I can never finish and would end up taking leftovers. Parking: they have a lot next to the restaurant, I never had an issue with finding a spot. The only downside is they don't have their AC on during the summer. I remember one time I was sweating while eating and it was very uncomfortable.

Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. The wonton noodles here were just $13.98! They come with 5 large wontons and vegetables over wonton noodles. I always recommend adding chili oil. The steamed spareribs on steamed rice have some bones, just like the ones you find at dim sum. But there's a lot of meat in the steamed rice bowl for a single person. It's a very small hole in the wall on the corner of a street, so it was a bit hard to find. My partner and I ordered their papaya salad, chicken satay, tom kha soup with shrimp, cream cheese wontons, crab fried rice, & mango sticky rice. The papaya salad was incredible and had the perfect amount of sauce. It wasn't too sour & had the right amount of sweetness. The tom kha soup was extremely flavorful & came with a plentiful shrimps. My only complaint is that some of the mushrooms in the soup were undercooked. The cream cheese wontons had the perfect amount of crunch and crispiness. The chicken satay was cooked to perfection! I was genuinely impressed since most places that make this usually overcook their chicken making it extremely dry. The crab fried rice had a nice wok hey flavor and was very light. To top our meal off, we got the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were very sweet and ripe. The rice they paired with it was a bit too hot for my liking. Overall, I would definitely come back! The curry had that hint of coconut that mellowed out the boldness of the curry. The restaurant was tiny and in this case definitely cozy. Staff was welcoming and engaging and checked on me every so often. The Thai coffee was perfect with the dishes as it mellowed out the spice in the appetizer and noodles. I will be back to try the other dishes.

Couldn't find the spot at first in the plaza but it is located near a McDonald's. Looked big from outside but was a decent size inside with a good amount of tables and seating space. Saw that the Beef Noodle Soup was good so I had to try it, the beef broth was delicious and I love bok choy so they had me at bok choy! Beef was nicely cooked too, I liked it! Dan Dan noodles were okay and it felt like it was spicy peanut butter but still good, just not my favorite. But the pork dumplings (xiao long bao) was YUMMY. It really hit the spot when we grabbed one each and the warmth and taste was delicious. Definitely my favorite! Pork and crab dumplings were good too! They specializes in Cantonese style wonton soup and congee. The wonton soup is my favorite and one of the best I've had in SoCal. I like getting the "two-item combo" noodle soup ($16) where you can pick two items (ex. wonton and beef stew) in a bowl of egg noodles. Delicious! The bowl also comes with a hefty portion of Chinese broccoli. The last couple times I came for lunch the place was pretty full but since service is fast you shouldn't have to wait very long, if at all. They take credit card. I've seen some reviews talk about it is dirty here? I never experienced or noticed that on my visits. It is no different from any other authentic, hole-in-the-wall style Chinese restaurant. FFS, they use super dry, super old chicken as the protein to make the congee with. Everyone knows you ought to use pork. There's zero pork in their congee! And for the pan-fried rolls, they are store-bought. They are not the steamed kind where authentic restaurants make in-house. They buy the $2.99 kinds from an Asian supermarket, slap some cooking oil and soy sauce onto the wok and call it a day. There's not even a corn starch slurry to thicken the sauce! It's like they either don't know how to cook good food or they think you the consumer can't disconcern what good food is. To add insult to injury, they charge you $11.50 for these piss-poor rice rolls when most restaurants add them to a breakfast combo for free. So you end up spending $11.50 for the porridge and another $11.50 for the rice rolls separately. Money gauging much?? Lastly, they charge 25 cents for every to-go container. They gave me two for my two items, so when the bill came, they tacked on 50 cents to the bill. How tacky. Spending money on disappointing food is another level of hurt. FAIL IN EVERY ASPECT. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT COME HERE.

Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan!
