So many places here really cater to the meat eating crowd. But this place gives me and my meat eating friends a chance to have a tasty meal together! I 100% recommend getting their tomato egg noodle dish (not the soup version) with loads of their chili oil mixed into it. Heaven in each slurp! And you have the option to get your noodles in different types, my favorite is the knife cut noodles! Only downside is that this place (as many Asian restaurants in the 626 are) only accepts cash. This place is epitome of a mom and pop shop. From then small Chinese restaurant feeling to a grandma who barely speaks English serving us. Food was very tasty and flavorful. This is what we ordered to share amongst two people: Bean curd strips (appetizer) - super refreshing because it was cold and if you put a sprinkle of the chili sauce, it's chefs kiss Bean paste noodles - I never really order or eat this but it was good! Cucumbers in this dish make it so refreshing too Beef noodle soup - very flavorful and strong soup base, it can be a bit salty but it's a good dish to share if you want variety Loved everything we ordered but obviously it was a bit too much food for us. As one of my go to restaurants upon returning to the 626, I need to give them props for my favorite tomato egg noodles I've had. Such a simple concept, tomato and eggs but do not let that sway your decision! Kam Hong is in a plaza with a few other restaurants so parking can be a bit of a crap shoot. Its a Northern Chinese establishment so noodles are their main carb and I am for it. The tomato egg noodles here are something else. I don't even know how to describe it but its definitely a lot more complex and flavorful than the name would entail. I never go here without at least one order of tomato egg noodles! I've tried a multitude of other dishes, including the cold appetizers and various soup noodles. All have been great and enjoyable. I can't recall any other dishes hitting me as hard as the tomato egg though. I can't believe after all these years of coming and recommending to friends I've never wrote a Yelp review for this place. This is one of my favorite hand pulled noodle place in the 626 area. The lady at the front has been here since I first discover the place 6-7years ago and she is the friendliest (not sure if she speaks english though). Their thick noodles are perfectly springy, flavorful and just the perfect bowl of noodle. Important note, they are cash only. soooooo delicious!!!! We ordered beef rolls, lamb noodle soup, vegetable noodle soup, and wonton soup. I wanted to order the fried vegetable noodles here but they don't have it anymore! I even asked the lady and she said they can't make it so I ordered the vegetable noodle soup instead and it was very lovely! The wide noodles are thick and chewy. You can tell they are handmade because the thickness and widths are inconsistent, which creates a satisfying bite and contrast. Absolutely lovely, would get again for sure! The beef rolls were amazing as well. They were out of vegetable rolls sadly but the beef rolls were still great! Super crispy and crunchy with the bright vegetables in contrast to the scallion pancake--I want more! The lamb noodle soup was super good too. They added glass noodles and tofu noodles along with the normal noodles, and their tofu noodles tasted super fresh and bouncy. Lastly for the wonton soup, beware of the pepper! I usually get the pork and Napa dumplings which are thick skinned and full of juicy filling. I felt a little uneasy when my mom and I were the only ones in the restaurant for a Sunday lunch. And they only take cash ... it's always nerve-wrecking when you know you might not have enough so you have to watch what you order. We only ordered two dishes, but they were plenty enough for the two of us that we had enough to take home and eat for dinner! It looks like Kam Hong Garden has gone through a menu renovation. The dishes that they serve seem to be different from the ones I had tried a few years ago. They don't have xiao long bao (which is what I wanted when I walked into the store), but they do offer a variety of noodle soups, dry noodles, rice, dumplings, wraps, etc. And with the noodles, there are three different types you can order from! The beef noodle soup was really good! I was pleasantly surprised at how much meat was in the dish. They also had a good amount of green onion and cilantro that garnished the soup. The beef was tender and soft, the soup had rich flavor and wasn't too spicy ... but it was the thick hand-cut noodles that was the star of the meal. I love thick noodles, and I especially loved Kam Hong's thick cut noodles! Chewy, but not too dough-y, there was enough substance yet the noodles still carried the flavor of the broth. If I needed to be picky about this dish, I would say that the soup could have a little more flavor. There wasn't enough noodles, but we did have a lot of beef and soup left, so I would recommend ordering an extra plate of noodles (maybe even something different!) so you can have enough noodle to complement the beef and soup. We also ordered the beef wrap - I remember the visit before, I had griped that they put too much melon into the wrap. But this time, even though there was a substantial amount of cucumber, it didn't detract from the beef or the sweet barbecue sauce! And the skin was crispy! I really liked that there was melon inside because it gave the wrap a sweetness that most other restaurants don't have. I think there were five total wraps ... we could only finish two! tl;dr - Overall, great lunch. Prices weren't too costly - we paid a little under $20 for two people. The service was okay. I think the restaurant has a new owner (seems like a family business), which is nice since it's always great to support family owned businesses! Good amount of air conditioning on a great day! Simple no fuss chinese food. All the noodle soups are great and the hand pulled noodles are amazing. Great texture and flavor. Soups are flavorful and not too oily. Service is fast and the food is served in take out containers but that's because it's more of a Togo restaurant than dine in. Chinese is the main language here so if you don't speak it might be a little difficult. But pointing at the menu items should work just fine. I've been obsessed with fresh hand made noodles and Kam Hong Garden was another one on my list. On most days, Kam Hong Garden is open until 9:30. Situated in a small plaza on Garvey, Kam Hong Garden is the first of the restaurants in the little plaza. Cash only and probably has 10 tables max? We arrived at 8:30 and the waiter greeted us right away. Sensing that we were non-mandarin speakers, he did his best to communicate with us in english. Both the waiter and the owner, who came around refilling our waters all the time, were soo sweet! We ordered the following for two people: -Cold cucumber appetizers ~$3: Personally for me their cucumber dish was too garlicky and not vinegary/pickely enough. Even after the entire meal, the overwhelming taste of garlic was still lingering. -Beef tendon knife cut noodles $7: The broth in this was amazing. Not MSG infused, very light, and just the right amount of flavor. I wanted to just drink it alone. Since everyone recommended the knife noodles, that's what we went for. Personally, the knife noodles were a bit tough for me. I wish it was a little lighter and not so heavy. In terms of the tendons they were very tender. The dish would have been amazing if the noodle to tendon ratio was a little better. They were slightly skimpy on the meat -Beef Rolls $6: also known as the scallion pancake rolls with slices of marinated beef, sweet sauce, and cold veggies wrapped up. Personally for my taste, I would have liked the pancake part to be a little crispier. The plus is that it wasn't greasy at all. In terms of the sauce, it was very sweet and hoisin tasting. -Xiao Long Bao ~$7.50: You get 8 pieces per order. Surprisingly the xiao long bao was pretty good. It was juicy, the wrapping not too thick, and the flavors very subtle. I'm not too sure what to compare this to since i'm not a fan of ding tai fung version....(overrated!) Overall our entire meal was only around $25 (including tip and tax). We also had lots of leftovers and was stuffed. Would I recommend this place? Yes, sure, why not? It is the best I've had? eh can't say that it is. however, prices are very reasonable and the servers very nice and the food is good. Very low maintenance in terms of any type of decor to speak off and you can bet the prices will reflect that as many of the items are within $5-$6 range for main dishes. Three words: Knife Cut Noodles! This is my new place to get Knife Cut Noodles. =) I know only a few places that have knife cut noodles and this place is the best so far. There has to be real technique in knife cut noodles, since it's made by hand. You take a hunk of dough in one hand and then with a knife in the other shave off thin ribbons of dough to be cooked. When I came here I didn't realize that it was almost closing time, but the super nice lady was kind enough to seat my friend and I anyways and stay open a little later even thought there was no one else in the restaurant. The appetizer I had was typical Shanghai-nese a cold plate with some veggies and chili oil! There chili oil wasn't spicy to me, it needed less oil and more chili. There was so much oil that it made eating the dish very unpleasant and next time I would just skip on ordering the appetizers and just stick with the main food dishes instead. My friend who got the beef soup noodles said that every time he comes here he always gets this. His logic is if you are ever in an Asian noodle place you can't decide what to get, get #1 since it's #1 for popularity (you can't go wrong 85% of the time (yes, I just made that percentage up)) The beef soup was beefy and hit the spot on a chill night, I My Shanghai mix noodles was a clear broth that seemed very light after tasting my friend's broth. Not "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" but still one of the best... In a city filled with Northern Chinese restaurants, Kam Hong Garden is quality eats for a fair price. I agree with Danny C, although the noodle dishes are good, they are not THAT memorable. We had the Shredded Chicken Cold Noodle (with peanut sauce!) and the Combination Fried Noodle- both recommended dishes, but it's relatively easy to find comparable versions at other restaurants. What stuck out in our meal, however, was the POTSTICKERS and BUNS! The pan fried meat dumplings (xian rou guo tie) were delicious pot stickers, and the steam small buns (xiao long bao), and house decocted (?) buns (sheng jian bao) both had awesome skins (not too thin and not too thick) and fragrant meat fillings. I am at a loss for how strangely these dishes are translated on their English menu, but in any case- MAKE SURE YOU ORDER DUMPLINGS AND BUNS at Kam Hong Garden! Also... Keep in mind that they have "SECRET MENUS" on the wall- again, a disadvantage if you can't read Chinese. They have crispy pancake (zua bing) in original, sesame, and xiang cun (a savory herb, no idea what it's called in English) flavors, as well as skillet pancakes (jian bing) with sweet potato and red bean filling. Honestly? This place does not deserve 4 stars... I was sooo excited when yelp lead me here on a whip that I decided to try 4 items: 1) Beef stew noodle soup with knife-sliced noodles - The soup to noodle ratio was probably 4:1. The flavor of the soup was just okay, but the noodles were really thick and chewy. 2) Zha Jiang Mein with hand-pulled noodles - This dish was pretty average. The sauce was pretty tasty, but the noodles were hard and chewy again. 3) Xiao Long Bao - This was a disappointment. With so many yelpers recommending this dish, I imagined a delicately steamed bun full of hot juices, but what I got were deflated buns with dry pink ground pork fillings. 4) Beef wrap - This is the only dish I really enjoyed. The pancake outside was crispy and the beef inside was moist and flavorful. The wrap also had cucumbers and cilantro, which were the perfect addition. Kam Hong Garden failed to meet my expectations. I can't believe I haven't come here in all the years I've been in SGV. I was craving handcut noodles, and found this place on Yelp. Got here around 3:30 in the afternoon and the restaurant's appearance was not particularly impressive. There were two other people sitting in the fairly small dining area. We ordered the beef noodle soup with the thick noodles to share. I saw some pictures of meat pies on Yelp, but could not identify it on the menu. So I showed the waiter, and in our mismatched phrases of Mandarin muddled with English and Cantonese, he indicated that the pics were mistakenly put here because the meat pies are from the restaurant across the parking lot. So I ordered leek pies instead--best decision EVER. The noodles were good. They were not spicy or super oily like some places. The beef was cut into large chunks instead of thin slices, effectively giving us more meat than we could finish between the two of us. The soup was not overly salty, but had a yummy flavor. It really satisfied that craving I was having. The leek pies were absolutely something to write home about! Sauteed leeks with some shrimp and a small bit of egg, neatly tucked into a half moon shape with crimped edges. Pan fried just the right way to make it crisp on the outside, but not soggy or super oily. The juices that poured out were heavenly. The pies were fairly hot, so I tore them in half to speed up the cooling process (I had burnt my tongue on a scallion pancake just days prior, so I was careful this time!). I would totally go back and gorge on these pies. From the pictures on Yelp, I know I really want to try their beef roll as well. I personally don't like sandwiches or pies that are crammed with meat. There maybe no cool yelp deals or brick toast desserts to attract the younger crowd, but if you want good food you need to give it a go! You definitely aren't coming here for the ambiance. We decided to order PAN FRIED DUMPLINGS, HOUSE SPECIAL NOODLE SOUP, SHANXI NOODLE something, and a BEEF & VEGETABLE STIRFRY. I apologize for my complete lack of accurate dish naming. The DUMPLINGS were good but the pork was a bit fatty. Shanxi food is supposed to be known for their vinegar and maybe so because the dipping sauce provided was mostly comprised of that dark black vinegar. Yum. The pork was on the fatty side and the pan frying took ageees. HOUSE SPECIAL SOUP: the soup was filled with seaweed and pork and was an interesting combination with a ginger taste lurking in the background. The noodles were handmade and very generously portioned but because this was takeout, they got soft and mooshed up in the takeout box. I'd recommend dining-in to get a true experience. The SHANXI noodles were much different than the soup noodles. The noodles themselves were fat and angular and in longish strips. They were not really springy the way pulled noodles are but not really doughy either. That was stir fried with pork and other goodies in an oily sauce. Just okay. I'm so sad the knife cut noodles and the man who stood next to the cashier making fresh noodles are gone. :( I'm also sad that everything else that I enjoyed eating from the original menu is gone as well. I'm disappointed. Guess I didn't get the memo on the change of ownership. The new menu is so hard to read/understand. Not everything is translated. The pictures don't have english captions. I was looking forward to trying their dumplings but FAIL! Though the rest of the dishes were much better but while thinking it over are they a 3 star place or a 4 star place. I'd like to give them 3.5 star since they were out of a dish I really wanted to try. Anyways let's see what we got: Fried pork dumplings were hard and full of pork but that's was it. I t was hard as dough. there wasn't any flavor in them. 2 stars Steamed pork dumplings also had a hard center with no flavor. 2 stars Chewy jia jia mein, was chewy and pretty good tasting if I go back I'll order that. 4 star Scallion thin pie was thin like I like them but was kinda tasteless. 3 star Not sure what kind of greens we got but there was flavor and I enjoyed it. 4 star Beef wrap was pretty tasty. 4 star The leek bao um no comment 3 star It was cheap because for 5 of us it came out to $8.00 a pop. Singapore noodles, for the win! I love them. LOVE. Went here for dinner with a friend recently, and from the moment I saw Singapore noodles on the menu there was no question about what I'd be ordering. The portion was generous, they didn't mock me too much for ordering it without any dead stuff (my friend on the other hand, did so - but then she always does, because in her opinion the dead stuff is what makes things taste good). Kam Hong Garden - Singapore noodles. - Chinese Near Me - Monterey Park, California

There's nothing extravagant about this place. It's just good Chinese food, made the right way. Chances are any good review for this place (and they're almost all good reviews) have already mentioned how ridiculous the noodles are here. So I won't waste too much of your time. Two of us shared an order of Chinese burrito (beef, cilantro, cucumber, green onion and sauce wrapped in fried Chinese pancake), an order of pork potstickers, and a bowl of egg and tomato hand cut noodles. The hand cut noodles are Kam Hong Garden's claim to fame. For those of you who don't know, hand cut noodles are exactly what they sound like. Hand cut with a knife from a block of dough, resulting in the shortest, thickest, most glutenous noodles you'll ever chew on. Chinese burritos are probably one of my top five favorite foods. But Chinese burritos in Cerritos simply don't stack up to the ones you'll find around SGV. Whatever city I'm in, if I'm trying out a new restaurant and I see Chinese burritos on the menu, I will order it. It's the fried pancake that defines this dish. The Chinese pancake here is perfect. Not so greasy and fried that you can see your reflection on your fingers, but fried just enough so it's crispy and flaky. Also, Kam Hong puts cucumber in their Chinese burritos, which is rare. I've only had cucumber in my Chinese burritos once before, and it was whatevs. Here at Kam Hong, though, it completely works. There's actually more cucumber than cilantro and green onion, which are normally the standout veggies of this dish, but somehow the ingredient ratio just pulls it off. Finally, the potstickers. There will never be a time when I won't be down for some good ol' potstickers. They're a classic, and also one of my all time favorites. As with Chinese burritos, potstickers need to be pan fried to a very specific point, and Kam Hong once again hits the spot right on. If you love noodles, you want to come here. read more

Just realized how good the food is here compared to other restaurants. I have tried so many places that have the Da Pan Ji, (big plate chicken) and this place by far the best tasting and the cheapest! The handcut noodles are made to perfection and the sauce is just amazing. It can get a bit spicy though as they put a ton of chili peppers in there. Because we rarely finish the Da pan ji, I always take the extra sauce home and cook with it the next day by adding veggies and noodles. Be sure to pick out the chili peppers or else it gets really spicy. Their lamb noodles is the best dish ever! The portions are huge, and they give a lot of lamb meat and other toppings. The soup is the best part, it's so rich, decadent and flavorful and not the least bit gamey. I would recommend those who wouldn't usually eat lamb to try it out! read more
