If you have pets and put their health before your teeth cleaning, do NOT come here. If your pet is at Sage and you can't make it to your appointment, you will be charged $75 for a cancellation -- even if you have never cancelled, and have spent thousands previously. In early 2025 I started going to N Street Dental, never once did I miss an appointment, loved my appointments. February 2026 comes around, my dog was at Sage and I forgot about the appointment. N Street called and the woman asked me if I was coming to my appointment, I told her my dog was sick and we were at Sage; she had a nasty tone " YOUR DOG IS SICK. You will need to pay a $75 cancellation fee before you can be rescheduled." Never once did she ask for receipts or even a doctor's note, she was rude and short. SHAME ON YOU, N Street. I was going to go at lunch and pay the fee and reschedule but considering I have a senior dog, and the dog that was at Sage (still has medical issues), and myself with my own medical issues, you are a horrible company for people with pets and medical problems. I even planned to spend more this year, even got an HSA to help me with all the planned procedures, with my insurance, and also out of pocket payment. Do better. Be kinder. read more

Their communication skills need to improve. Dr Hutchens gets a little rude when you question her advice on a tooth procedure. She turns quickly from nice and sweet to clearly annoyed and bothered when you question why she is suggesting a several thousand dollar procedure on a tooth that is doomed to fail and then be redone or pulled within months resulting in wasted funds. The office seems to withhold information on procedures and gives you the feeling they are doing so to keep you on a "need to know" basis only. We are now looking for a new dentist. read more

Was dismissed because they couldn't deal with my dad's level of care. He needs some fills, a few crowns, and to be on a regular periodontal cleaning schedule, nothing huge like a full mouth rebuild. They did charge us for an emergency visit for some reason when I thought he was coming in as a new patient exam and cleaning and I thought that was strange. No explanation on what type of visit we were there for until all was said and done. The doctor seemed nice enough as did the assistant, but I guess they just don't want us there. read more

Dr. Hutchens and the team at N Street Dental are Wonderful! I've been receiving dental care for over 20 years by Dr. Hutchens and she is the most diligent, thoughtful and kind dentist out there! I brought in my 12 year old son to have his cavity filled and front tooth fixed. He was nervous to get a shot in his mouth, but Dr. Hutchens was very gentle and reassuring while she explained the entire process, so it put him at ease for the procedure. He liked the dental assistant Victoria and said, " she was super nice!". He was so proud walking out of the office with his tooth repaired. He had been embarrassed for awhile about the chip and he is now confident showing off his smile! I know how he feels, because I too have a chip in my front tooth that Dr. Hutchens fixed perfectly:) The front desk manager Rose was friendly and efficient while setting up appointments for all 5 of my family members with our dental needs and convenience in mind. The dental office is clean, comfortable, and inviting perched on a hill in Benicia with great views of the Carquinez Straits. I live in Martinez, so it's cool that I have a different view on this side of the bridge, and it only takes me 15 minutes to arrive at the office and well worth it. Dr. Hutchens showed genuine care when I recently had a few fillings done. She was extra considerate of how I was doing throughout the process. The visit was better than I have experienced with many other dental offices I've had in the past. She was kind and warm and was asking about my sleeves of tattoos and it helped me calm down from any dental anxiety. I did appreciate that she was extra gentle when having to do injections. We finished up the fillings just fine and she did great work! She was informative on what after-care to expect. In another appointment to get my teeth cleaned, the dental hygienist was gentle and thorough. I can tell she also cares about the work she does. Overall, Dr. Hutchens and her staff made me feel very welcome in the office. I will also add that the office vibe in general was very nice with the nice big windows and natural light. Rose at the front desk was very nice and answered my many questions. They gave me options and I felt that they were focused more on me and my care vs. charging up insurance with unnecessary procedures. I really appreciate that in a dental office. Receptionist and staff seemed helpful, but Dr Hutchens was cold, abrasive, and rude. She repeatedly asked my wife if we were residents of Benicia...my wife (latina) believed Dr Hutchens was incredulous towards her. She felt Dr Hutchens was judging based on race and appearance. My wife and I have been residents of Benicia for a combined 43 years. We have insurance, jobs, a house, etc. No reason for a professional to treat anyone this way. Downright offensive. Dr Hutchens could not or would not fill my 7yo daughter's cavities and stated a referral to a pediatric dentist would be needed. My 7yo has had dental work done before without issue. So much for a "family dentist." Thought I was doing something right for my family by trying a different dentist in town. I'll be returning to my previous dentist down on 1st street. If you're like me and have put off going to the dentist because you've got bad dentist anxiety, N Street Dental is the place for you. I was referred by someone who also has anxiety at the dentist, and we both could not be more pleased with the quality of care here. They are so patient and understanding and kind - this is the best dentist I've ever had, and the least anxiety I've had while getting fillings done. Also, I am impressed with their COVID protocol. Masks are required until you get into the procedure room. You call before you enter the office to make sure the waiting room is empty, they do a temperature check, the dentist and dental assistant both wear full PPE, masks, shields, etc. -- it's CLEAN. There seems to be no staff at this office, just Dr Barretto and the receptionist. I made an appointment for a cleaning months ago, waiting a long time to see her, when I arrived she only examined me and I didn't have my teeth cleaned. I was told they would call me to schedule an appointment but that was 4 weeks ago. They did call me but my schedule didn't fit the available time, haven't heard from them since, and I did leave messages for them to contact me . Dr. Barretto seemed very thorough and nice but she is not equipped to care for her patient. I don't often write reviews but this situation concerns me. read more

I am a recent transplant from East coast and I am glad that I found the right place amongst more than 13 dental offices in Benicia. They are very professional and friendly. Plus, make me feel comfortable. Dr. Lee is very attentive and gentle. She explains the procedure step by step and answers my questions above and beyond. Plus she contacted my the endodontics for my concerns and follow up with them to make sure all is well. Emily, the secretary/schedule coordinator was very thorough in explaining of inaurance plan coverage and when it comes to scheduling she tries hard to accommodate my needs. Always a friendly and courteous staff. I recently had to get a crown done. Based on my initial crown experience (and other work) at another local dentist, N St. does a FABULOUS job at doing work where the patient is comfortable and minimal pain/discomfort. I always wince when getting work done but Dr. B's skill reminds me I don't need to at N St.! Also, I've heard of other dentists in Benicia suggesting services that are not necessarily needed and charging premiums as those are not covered under insurance... N St. staff has never done that to me or my family. Definitely a place I can trust! read more

I found this office through my insurance provider and I am so happy I went here. I was having some severe pain which they quickly diagnosed and got me fixed up right away. Each visit has been a great experience with politeness, professionalism, clear communication and honest billing. Laura did my xrays and cleaned my teeth with such gentle and thorough care, which was a huge relief for me, as my teeth are very sensitive. I am so glad I gave N Street Dental a call when I moved back to my hometown of Benicia last year. The front desk staff are always extremely friendly, and knowledgeable. This is a very family friendly office. They are great with my boys ages 8 and 3. I love that they give us text reminders of our appointments. So helpful for me because I'm a working mom. I had a very bad tooth ache that I tried to just hang on as long as I could because I had bad experiences all my life with dentists. Today I found my forever dentist! Dr. Barretto and her assistant Nicole put a cap on my aching tooth and gave me the relief I needed. Dr. Barretto showed me today how a professional in her field is supposed to be like. She had state of the art equipment in a very clean environment. She was very attentive towards how I was doing during the procedure.
