I have never done a review, but every time I leave this place I say I have to let people know about this gem. I have eaten here 3 times in the last 6 months and have not had a bad meal yet. More importantly the owner and staff have gone above and beyond every time. I ordered the special, Chilean Sea Bass, during Lent. The owner was not happy with the portion size that came out. My wife and I came here the other day for an early bird dinner. First time here. Ambiance is nice with a lot of old pictures hanging on the walls and the lighting was spot on. We started with the fried calamari app and it was really good. Fried perfectly, but it did need a hit of salt. Served with cocktail sauce (marinara would be nice too). Love that they also include the tentacles I along with rings. Entrees: wife ordered the Linguini Del Mare. Seafood was properly cooked and flavor was great. She really enjoyed it. I ordered the Pork Chop Milanese and is was really good. One thing that stands out here is that the portions are huge! Appetizers and Entrees and the house salad that they serve. We were only able to eat about half of our meals after the huge appetizer and salad and ended up taking the leftovers home with us. Service was great as well. First time trying this local place, we ordered a Spinach Classic. I would say it's 6/10 on the pizza. The flavor was good, I like the sauce. It is the crust that was not crispy enough for me. It's thin enough for sure, I just expected it to be more crispy. If they improve on this then It'll be 9/10. I would try the double dough next for sure. read more

In an area with many Italian restaurants, this was an unexpected gem! We had an early Rez (bc we're old) on a Tuesday evening. Lindsay one of the owners served us. She was great. They didn't have cacio y pepe on the menu but made it for us anyways, also had meat lasagna (special), shrimp diavalo, salmon along with their house salad, house Pinot and Chianti. So good! Had a wonderful date night last night at La Dolce Vita. Kim our server bar tender/bar tender kept us fed and paced appropriately for having a quick dinner at a high top in the bar. The owners Mike & Lindsey, also were on top of things and made us feel welcomed. It's a very cozy restaurant with a great staff and friendly atmosphere. Food was fantastic we had the Shrimp Francese that we ate quicker than we could get a picture in. Both the shrimp and mussels were fresh and perfectly cooked. I took my immediate family here for dinner. It was my son's favorite restaurant. Money wasn't a concern. The wait staff and service was great. The food was above average. Nothing was given to us as the prices appeared to be average or above average in price. Again, not an issue. When I received the bill I looked it over and paid it promptly without question., Here's the kicker. I know they are in business to make money and I respect that. But a $20.00 TARIFF OFFSET TAX? Sorry people, that's ridiculous and it will only open the flood gates for others to do the same. It happened with rising gas tax's which never went away. Raise your prices if need be, I can understand that, but TARIFF OFFSET! You're not importing or exporting products, your a restaurant. Please don't respond how hard pressed you and your business is currently, that's the cost of doing business and we are all affected by the Tariff thing. No one ever drops their prices when things are good? If the products you buy are imported from Italy, then BUY American. Support the homeland, that's the idea of tariffs. Went out to celebrate several birthdays in the family. Made reservations ahead of time since they are usually busy on the weekends. We had to wait a while as the prior parties were still visiting well after they paid their check. The hostess was very apologetic and offered a smaller table if we were in a hurry. Our server was nice but seemed to take a long time to check in with us throughout our meal. I'm not sure if they were understaffed but it didn't look like it. We went out for my mom's 95th birthday, we had a party of 10 people, me, my mom, my brother and my husband all got the Veal parmigiana, it was all sauce and cheese. Our drinkware were all pretty filthy. My bf's glass came with fresh lip gloss on it while my wine glass had food dried to the outside of it. There were soap rings in all 4 of the water glasses on the table (I drank out of the cleanest). The silverware definitely had not been scrubbed as it also had dried food bits. The first chair I sat on had a nail sticking up through the pad but we could never get anyone's attention to request clean anything or to point out the chair. I ended up hauling the chair to the bar at the end of the night to show them! Service was what it was. Hell, I had to follow the server across the room to get her attention about the lip gloss on the dirty glass. Service definitely could have been better, but the poor girl was over her head in that back room alone. Perhaps two servers or a more experienced and motivated server should handle the entertainment room. She was polite, but very obviously too busy to really let us inquire about items. The food was OK..I mean it's Italian in Plainfield. Cooked mostly right but no flavor, lacked seasonings. The calamari was cooked perfectly, but again the batter was plain, bland. And oddly they served it with cocktail sauce (jarred from store) instead of a marinara... so that was unusual. Blending then might have given it a zing of flavor. They at least served my favorite wine. Hopefully the glasses will be clean next time. read more

Forget all these stupid reviews and trivial criticisms. The food is and always has been excellent. The Sausage and Peppers is the best I've had and I grew up in Cicero. When it's on it is close to momma's pasta, but When it's off it is just a step above Olive Garden. Love the baked clams, but too small. Normally I have a good experience at La Dolce Vita but this time food was disappointing. My husband ordered the veal angelina which was ok but the veal was slightly over cooked. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon and it came well done. I sent it back and had to wait 15 min. By that time my husband was done with his dinner. Normally a wonderful experience. Now a warning. Folks have all sorts os sensitivities - gluten, allergy issues etc. I can't eat spicy. I have had the LaDolce meatball before and it is amazing - it has mild Giardiniera. I took a bite and saw stars. The waitress says 'oh they mix it with hot'. Not listed with the description on the menu and apparently a new thing. She offered to have them make a new one. Manager came over. I told him it was not stated on the menu. I actually hurt from the heat. Manager basically was like 'too bad so sad'. Went back to chatting up his table of friends he was at the whole time we were there. We've been to this restaurant dozens of times but our last visit has me wondering if I'll ever go back. Food was ok, good but nothing exceptional, certainly not up to prior standards. The real problem was the service, or lack thereof. On time for our reservation, we waited a reasonable amount of time for a greeting and then a bit long for our bottle of wine to come and finally place our orders. An hour plus our food finally showed up. The worse thing was how the waitress only bothered once to update us on when it would arrive and then joked about the wait time instead of apologizing.
