So we thought we would try on a recommendations, Nabuki . This was certainly a good recommend. Located in downtown hinsdale the restaurant has an inviting decor and is very clean. Staff is very attentive as well. The drinks was tasty and made well. Most importantly their sushi rolls were outstanding ..fish was fresh and the 3 rolls we ordered were all delicous ..unfortunately I can't recall the names.. unlike many other sushi restaurants I found their desserts to be awesome . Big city sushi quality. frustratingly slow service. The 4 sushi rolls we ordered were all very good. My wife got several individual Nigiri pieces, and we were surprised they had Uni. The only thing that was sub par was how long it took for the food to come out. And how long it took to ask for, then receive the check. The restaurant was not crowded, though it is a fairly large establishment. I would not go here for date night cocktails and a few apps. The drinks are expensive, stick with sushi. read more

Small restaurant with modern/sleek ambiance - small front bar, sushi bar in the back, and prob 15-20 tables. Waitstaff was friendly/attentive, tho a bit slow in bringing food out. Love Nabuki! The sushi is so fresh and we can always count on our favorites to be consistent in flavor; the tuna tartare is delicious. The service is also consistently good; servers are helpful in making recommendations and always very responsive. As well, the atmosphere is perfect for having a conversation. I usually take photos but forgot because I was so hungry! My bf and I ordered an assortment of nigiri ,everything was very fresh. We also got the cold soba noodles and WOW. The best cold noodles I've had, they have a good kick of chili oil so if you like spicy this is a def must try. The cold with the spicy goes very well. The servers were all very helpful and nice. Just Ok. Nothing was tasty, delicious, or even pleasing to the pallet. The rice is not cooked or seasoned properly, and the unagi sauce was so sweet it made my spider roll taste like candy. Met some friends here for dinner for outdoor dining in the tent. Surprised how well the temperature was maintained in the tent. Had the grilled salmon for entree and multiple sushi platters. Salman was excellent and the sushi was standard good quality. None of the desserts sounded appealing and there were no speciality coffees. I've only been here twice but both times were extremely good. I sat at the bar and AJ is just so friendly and attentive. They have a decent wine list and I know they are working on getting everything by the glass as well. It is not a large space but it is cozy and modern decor. The bar itself has a large TV behind it but only has six stools. I know people have said parking is difficult but this downtown Hinsdale area does have plenty of parking if you just are willing to walk one block. Also, there are meters but after 6 (I think) you don't have to pay them anyway. Also, Yelp! says they do not have wifi but they do have a free wifi. I've had the octopus ceviche, crazy jalapeno, scallop appetizer, pork dumplings, and a few rolls. Everything has been above average and extremely fresh. The crazy jalapeno is super tasty and they also have a few similar apps that are not on their menu so be sure to ask. The scallop app was super good. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the asparagus nice and crisp. I'll update as I have more things as well. The ceviche was not bad but it was not my personal liking. If you like onions and jalapenos and such in your ceviche, this may not be the preparation for you. It actually has some heat but lacks some of those common flavors that I look for. It also has mango, which I thought was nice but strawberry as well which, as fresh as it was, just didn't belong in the dish in my opinion. Overall, city quality sushi and Japanese fare at less of a price tag. read more

We were here 6+ years ago and tonight met our expectations again! Food was super fresh and delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our waiter, Sean, made the night enjoyable. He was knowledgeable and friendly, making us feel so welcome and comfortable. He also suggested some bomb affordable and delicious sake! This place was packed by 730PM on a Saturday night so i think that speaks for the food and atmosphere! Keep in mind their chef will make items from past menus if you know what to ask for. We saw a table nearby order something called the Crabby Tuna and we ordered that as well and really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that we were on the "addition" side and the lighting fixtures (while super stylish and cool) didn't give a ton of light and the only other light came from the news on the TV on the wall. Honestly, the food just alright. Calamari was a bit under done, arriving before my drink order and within 5 mins of ordering it. I'd rather have it underdone than overdone but the batter was clearly barely fried. The service was okay, but my poor server was alone in our section with one incredibly demanding table so we had to wait so long for attention, it was weird no one felt the need to help her or step in. The managers on duty allowed some woman to walk angrily around the dining room pointing out tables she felt she could be sat at, at one point she was standing so close to me I could feel and smell her, which absolutely ruined my meal. Love it when a new restaurant comes to town! Especially when that town is Hinsdale which has been void of contemporary restaurants for a long time. Nabuki is a much needed breath of fresh air with it's modern decor, delicious sushi, and service that was knowledgeable and friendly. It felt alot like the sushi restaurants I visit in the city. Open for just under two weeks, I had the pleasure of dining there and I am sure to be a "regular" whether for eating in or taking out. The decor is contemporary with cool- greens and oranges with a wall treatment that reminds me of water with it's raised design. The front area is the bar area (also much needed in Hinsdale) with high tops scattered in front of the large windows. They have a full bar or you can also bring in your own wine if you want, for a corkage fee. In the back is the dining room and the sushi bar with a few booths along the walls and several other tables. Not a large place and on this Monday night- all the tables were full. We were seated immediately for our reservation and began to go over the menu. Cold appetizers, hot appetizers, Tempura and sushi make up the majority of the menu with 8 or so main courses like Japanese ribs, steak and seafood. We started with the soft shell crab (always my fav when it is in season) and it was quite tasty. Next up- the spicy tuna salad which was like a sundae glass filled with the "innards" of a spicy tuna roll. Quite possibly the best appetizer on the menu. As for our main course- we had a variety of their signature rolls. If you like spicy- try the "Stop, Drop and Roll" roll with spicy tuna and shrimp tempura with avocado. Or the Picadilly (named after the restaurant that used to be in this space oh so many years ago) with lobster, radish sprouts and spicy mayo. Or the Nabu roll with soft shell crab and spicy mayo. All were artfully presented and quite delicious! The desert menu has everything from green tea ice cream to mini donuts to a lava cake. We didn't try any of them but the cake at the next table smelled wonderful! Street parking is easy in the downtown area after 6 which makes it even more convenient. Dinner for two with drinks ran about $110 but you could certainly do less rolls than we did as the signature rolls are pretty large. Signature rolls run about $16 each with the more basic rolls going for around $8-$9. They are open only for dinner now- but plan to open for lunch in the near future (according to the hostess). Hinsdale needs more destination places like it's neighbors to the east (La Grange) and north (Elmhurst). I'm just happy that there is a new place in town that feels like a little bit of the city has moved out to Hinsdale! read more

We came here for dinner on Saturday heading back home from the city. We were shown to a table in direct line to the front door in a banquette booth. With the colder weather, I was in direct line of the cold air coming in through the front door every time someone came in. Also, we were sat next to a couple tables with children and that was distracting to our conversation as they were in constant motion and dropping food all over the floor. As a matter of fact, when the manager came by after they left to clean up we each gave each other a look of what a mess. Our server was Peter and he was attentive, provided good service and recommendations of items on and off the menu. My husband had a white Pinot noir that was very good, and I had a grapefruit cocktail that was refreshing and delicious. We started out with the special crab wrapped in tuna appetizer. Other items we ordered were the tuna tartare with caviar and quail egg, the hamachi with chopped octopus on top, unagi, and a spicy tuna maki. All the fish was very fresh and everything we had was delicious. The food here is definitely on the pricey side. We've dined here before and we will be back again. We don't go here often because of the price and we have a place close to our house that is just as good and innovative with lower pricing. read more

A friend mentioned this place as one of his favorite sushi spots and gave it another whirl and it was excellent! Fresh sushi, delicious miso and soba, this place must have improved over the years as it rivals many of the downtown sushi places. The service was friendly but almost unbearably slow but I'd imagine it's still an offshoot of the ineffective COVID restrictions imposed on the restaurant industry so I can't really knock them for that. read more

To begin I would like to say if you ever are trying to have a special moment with a significant other be weary of going here. My date and I had walked in while the restaurant was slow and our host sits us right by the kitchen. My date and I have both worked in the industry before so we are oftentimes sympathetic, but once our server Angel found us after 15 minutes things only went south. I had begun by ordering a cocktail that took my waiter several minutes to get out as he stared blankly at my ID. Illinois requires that if you serve customers alcoholic beverages that you pass an exam to be sure of any fraudulent ID's. In this case I believe Angel had no idea. After insulting our seating arrangement in the restaurant and putting in our order he proceeds to bring our entrée before our edamame and miso soup. After waiting patiently while secretly starving we take our first bite of the hamachi dish and to our surprise it is the wrong one. I ask Angel to then kindly come to our table so that I can explain the scenario to him but he responds by "Did you eat it yet?" Of course we took a bite if you bring it before our appetizers we're starving here!!! No sort of action was taken to correct his mistake nor an apology. We then ask Angel about our edamame and miso soup once we finish our carpaccio and he just brings out the edamame...beans for dessert anyone?? It felt as though the staff had just been insulting us behind our backs from the moment we walked in which made the ambience for the place terrible for a date. Our waiter delivered our app and after it was gone asked "anything else?" Yes.. we would like dinner. The people next to us were sat, served and left before we got our first roll. After waiting an hour for our rolls, we asked where they were. He immediately delivered 1, (and the food runner couldn't tell us what it was), which leads me to think it was left sitting in back. We grabbed our own take home box, and even after seeing us do that, still no check came. When we asked for the check, and a waiter has to say "how was everything regardless?" There's a problem. Two words: Crabby tuna. This dish is not on their regular menu, but it is so delicious. We finished our first order and immediately ordered one more. It is their crab mix, wrapped in tuna, topped with avocado, and unagi sauce drizzle. So simple, but so delicious. We also had an order of sashimi, kicker roll, and red devil roll. Everything we ordered was presented beautifully. The fish was fresh and delicious. I will definitely be returning to try more of their menu items! The drinks from the bar were made perfectly!
