I'd give this place a pass if you can find somewhere else to eat. Slow service, mediocre overpriced food, dirty bathrooms and inattentive waitresses made for a less then stellar meal. The food items are 'Americanized' Mexican dishes - don't try to get anything authentic here. Lot's of weird nacho combos, no enchiladas or tamales, but they do have giant burritos covered in a disgusting looking white sauce. After sitting down and asking for water our waitress got around to taking our drink orders. We also asked for 2 chips and salsa flights & some guac since we were starving. Drinks probably took 15 minutes to come out - and still NO chips or salsa. Isn't that pretty standard? You put some chips in a bowl and bring them out. I asked our waitress about them when she brought our drinks - I got a snippy - yes I remember answer. Eventually the chips / salsa showed up and she took our food orders. I opted to create my own nachos - I just wanted something basic - but apparently I screwed up because my meat, cheese, bean, cilantro nachos came out more expensive then if I'd just ordered one of the weird combos. Oh well, I won't be back since we were on vacation - but be forewarned if you're looking for Mexican food, skip this place. read more

Super fun girlfriend lunch. Get a drink, share a huge plate of Nachos, buy a t-shirt! We started with Ocean Potion and Hip Mangorita in a bucket. Take the bucket home to build sand castles on Myrtle Beach. A couple of Miller Lites too. We shared Hipponachomus Nachos and Holee Guacaomole. Plenty for 3 of us for lunch. The old break up phrase of it's not you it's me could apply here but really it's you Nacho Hippo that is causing this relationship to teeter on break up. We love you and always look forward to coming to get nachos when we are here but today has been a hot mess. Let me pick up from when we were last here. We were very specific in that there could be absolutely no jalapeños on the nachos due to an allergy I have. Unfortunately that didn't happen and I had an allergic reaction. The server we had told us that next time we come in that I could order a kids portion of our nachos and have it made exactly how I need it. So today I tried exactly that and was told by our server that the smallest portion size is the personal. So we were very specific about what to have on the side. Our nachos came out and it had chicken in it which is not part of the dish. I ask our server if it is supposed to have chicken as maybe I just overlooked it, she said no and took it to have it remade. The remade nachos come out and there is like 3 small pieces of ground beef and when my husband mentioned this to the server she got very defensive saying she didn't make them. We told her we weren't blaming her as we know she isn't making them. So...back go the nachos. The third attempt has come back out and aside from some burnt chips, it is exactly how they should be and what we have always expected when ordering them. I really don't want this to be goodbye and maybe some time apart (I mean I love 3.5 hours away so I can't just run here when that nacho craving hits) is what we need. We used to go to Nacho Hippo a few times a year . The chicken quesadilla was the best around and we used to make our own Nachos. Went with some friends on Friday and found out they changed the menu! . it was horrible ! They changed the chicken quesadilla and they don't offer make your own Nachos anymore. Our server was overall friendly but a little distant. My husband got the grande margarita and he thought it was very refreshing. The name does not disappoint as their are some tasty nachos to be had here and you will probably feel like a hippo when you leave because you ate and drank way too much. We stopped by here while visiting the Market Commons on a Sunday afternoon. The Bangin' Shrimp Nachos (seafood nacho #2 during our visit to Myrtle Beach) sounded way too good to pass up so we ordered that and a few Love You Long Time Thai Tacos. They also were serving $1 margaritas so we ordered a couple of those as well. Our tacos were OK, kind of small for what you pay for but the nachos definitely made up for the lackluster tacos. Huge portion piled high with fried shrimp, nacho toppings, and a tasty sauce. Hit the spot just right. Their patio seating is small but we were able to get a spot in the sun so that we could relax, drink, and people watch. Service was a little flighty here and their hostess was not very good (overly stressed and not welcoming at all) but once we were seated things improved somewhat. Great place for food and drinks. There are many locations around Myrtle Beach so finding one is not hard to do. There is also a location at the airport in case you miss finding one while on the beach. read more

Service was very good. Everyone was very friendly and attentive they messed up our order a few times but they were happy to fix it and take the wrong stuff off the bill. We got an order of ACP and 2 teriyaki tacos. The tacos were wonderful and were full of flavor. The spicy sauce was just the right amount of spice. The ACP was different than I was used to. This place is very cute. You can tell it's a tourist attraction but it's a fun one! The theme is a little weird but if you're up for something interesting it's definitely somewhere I'd recommend. Our hotel gave us a $5 coupon and when we were out near barefoot landing, we decided to give it a try. It's a fun atmosphere and is basically an outdoor environment. We sat near the bar in the back under umbrellas. It's all brightly colored and fun hippo art throughout. They also have an area that looks to be set up for a band. We ordered the hungry hippo nachos which is beef and chicken loaded nachos. The kids got chocolate milks and 1 chicken nugget meal, 1 beef/cheese nacho meal and 1 beef/cheese taco meal. All came with fries, which the kids loved. They have a nice beer selection, bottled and draft. They service was super fast and the server checked on us frequently. I appreciated that the nachos are corn tortillas - and that the waitress was kind enough to let me know about cross contamination from being in the same fryer as other fried foods. My husband ordered tacos and they were also really good. The only thing he would change is ordering flour instead of corn tortillas, as he felt the corn tortillas were dry and took away from the flavor of the tacos.
