After reading all the reviews I was a little nervous to go but was looking forward to getting my nails done with my sister. Gal seemed nice but what matches all the other comments here is the shady practices around pricing. What started as a classic pedicure for $40, then an upcharge for gel (which I saw in the pamphlet, $15) - Great, no big deal. Then what's not talked about or written anywhere is $10 upcharge for French gel. The gal at checkout when asked said it was in the pamphlet but couldn't find it anywhere and said oh I guess it's not. $25 total up-charge for gel French seems wild to me. Maybe I'm just out of the loop for not getting my nails done often but this just again, seems wild. Why not just be upfront & have the tech say for each thing it's an up-charge or more inclusive pricing overall. Not to mention the last clear coat didn't even cover the back of my big toes. I went to Nail Bar & Spa in SLP since it's close to my apartment and had online booking. I have had fine nails from here before, but my experience in September has stopped me from ever going back. I had received a full set of acrylics from a different salon, since it was for a wedding and I went with the bride. I didn't want to drive the 30 minutes back to the original salon, so I thought I would get them removed at Nail Bar and have a normal manicure after to let my nails breathe a bit. I had never had acrylics before, but I did know the proper method to remove was soaking. Instead, my tech drilled down the acrylic with a nail file until it hit my natural nail and turned pink and was in pain. After this, the tech needed to remove the tips that were on my nails, and decided to use a credit card to get under it and pry it off. After this process on all of my nails, there was little to nothing left of my natural nails - they were sore and thin as tissue paper. The nail tech insisted that I could not do normal nail polish given the state of my nails, and urged that I do a gel manicure. I was eager to get out so I just agreed and left. It's been almost a year later and this experience still scares me. This experience was a 0/5 stars, but I've given one because the actual manicure itself was well done. read more

I have been to this nail salon many times before this and had good services. Not this time. I went with my daughter-in-laws. I got there about 15 minutes before our appointment with 1 daughter-in-law. We went in early to pick out our colors for pedicures and wait for my other daughter-in-law. My technician came over and was waiting to seat us shortly after. We told him, we wanted to wait for our other person and he stood by us. We felt rushed, so we said we'd sit down, but wanted to wait. He asked us two other times if we were ready to start, we said we'd sit down wanted to wait. At one point, he even said it would affect other service to customers and was very rude. We finally felt pressured to start and started about 5 minutes before our appointment. When I got done he sat me under the dryer. He checked my polish twice and then said I was done after 20 minutes. He was putting on my sandals and it smudged the polish. He then said to be more careful even though it was his fault. He told me harshly to go sit a chair across the salon. He started to re-do the polish and halfway through said rudely..."pick a new color. I was confused and he gave the color to another employee, who got me a color close to what I had chosen, still didn't know why I needed a new color. That employee re-did my nails in about 5 minutes. She did use a different bottle to put over my polish. When I sent them a complaint, I never heard back. I don't usually post a review, but felt they didn't care. Customer service was non-existent. 2 out of 3 of us had injuries when we left, and reasonable requests were either ignored, or met with hostility. Very rushed and impolite. Employees very unfriendly. During my pedicure they pulled out the pamphlet and pointed to a pedi that was $60. I asked if that price included the gel polish and was told yes so I agreed to the upgrade. When I got to the register the charge came up as $66 and some change. When I asked they said "the pedicure was $50 + $15 for gel polish.(?huh? )It's like they make it up as they go! What a SHAME. Came in about a week ago, an old gentlemen seemed like he didnt know what he was doing and had to look over the technician next to him on how to do each steps of my pedicure (the person next to him was doing my friends pedicure). He also cut my skin and my polish is and was not smooth. It burned when he wiped alcohol over it (forgot to take pics of the cut skin). The sides aren't covered either, and the top coat is not even fully covered! Met the owner and his daughter too who was at the front desk checking me out. Absolutely hostile, no friendliness or greetings whatsoever. I am so disappointed honestly, I've never given reviews unless its that bad. Not how I'd run my own business if I were them. Front desk is not helpful of where they want you to be, you just free roam and stand around cluelessly. Be careful before you come to this place. Also to add on; the technician I had was not grateful. I tipped 20% even though I didn't like the service I received, my total was $40, I tipped $8. He then said "so little" in vietnamese. I love to test a "walk-ins welcome" sign at real value. Upon walking in I was greeted by the front desk attendant. New clients are asked to fill out a sheet for their system. They have moved beyond the bulky scheduling book and have it fully automated to the point where you get a text alert when your appt is ready. However, they are not staffed for walk ins so be prepared to wait at least 10-15min. But other than that, they passed my walk in rating! New salon means new everything and it shows here. Each pedicure bed is lined up perfectly with even a mini-pedi station for children. Everything is labeled so you know what is gel polish and what is not. Some takeaways were if you go from gel polish to regular polish, they charge you $5 for it even though in order to get a manicure, one must remove old polish or risk looking like one of those polish challenges by mistake. Shapes other than square filing cost $5 extra as well. They also do not tend to your cuticles by default when getting a fill or full set. Finally, the polish job wasn't the cleanest I've had but nothing too dramatic. Bonuses: you get a massage with every manicure! They have this handheld massage thing that like pulses in your back and watch yourself or you might get caught falling asleep by the stress that melts from it. I give 4 stars based on cleanliness, organization, sanitation, services provided and overall look of manicure. read more

I'm a relatively new client to the SLP Nail Bar & Spa, but plan to go there for all of my nail needs and services moving forward. I have been completely satisfied with every one of my visits to this salon over the past few months. It's a great salon, everyone is friendly and accommodating and it's always tidy and clean. I had been seeing the same Nail Tech elsewhere for 6+ years, but she unfortunately switched locations, which just wasn't doable for me, so I needed to find a new Nail Salon and Nail Technician. I scheduled my first appointment at the SLP Nail Bar & Spa months ago with Tiffany, it was really by chance as she happened to be available and was able to provide the nail services I was requesting. I'm so glad I did, she is phenomenal. She's extremely talented and did an excellent job on my nails, they turned out exactly as I requested. Tiffany was a pleasure to chat with as well, very kind and warm. She was also super fast, which is appreciated, because I'm always in a hurry or late to my next appointment or meeting. Yikes! I really dislike having to give a negative update on a place I thought was pretty awesome. I have been visiting Nail Bar SLP a few times and all my visits have been awesome - until today which was AWFUL. I called ahead of time to ask if they had openings for a polish change and inquired on price. The receptionist said they were pretty wide open and the cost would be $10. That's AWESOME for a polish change - so I drove from the south metro to SLP since that was a pretty good deal! Upon check-in, I asked if someone could please assist w/ color matching the polish from my hands to the toe polish. I can understand the staff speaking Vietnamese - they were super rude and grumpy bout having to assist me with color matching. By the way - they were not busy, there were staff members on their phones sitting in the pedi-chairs, napping or socializing. For the most part, my nail tech was friendly. Upon check out, she asked if she could run my card and she did . . . FOR $18.00! I mentioned to her that the charge should have been for $10 the price the receptionist told me over the phone. The receptionist came over and had a very rude demeanor stating that it was her error that she forgot to ask me if it was for hands or toes. I told her that since it was her error, they should honor the price said over the phone. If I knew it was going to be $18, I would have gone to a salon closer to home. She didn't apologize for the error and grabbed a supervisor who was no better. He and I spoke in Vietnamese (which he was shocked that I could speak AND understand the whole time) and he told me that I needed to sign the receipt and that the "extra $8 dollars" was for the lavish hospitality/comforts/amenities of the salon. Oh, really sir? If that was the case then why: 1) Didn't anyone offer me a beverage - I saw everyone else get one upon their service. 2) No one was willing to color match me. 3) No one came around to check if my nails were thoroughly dry. He basically disregarded my comments about the receptionist's error or what I was told upon making the appointment and threw a voucher discount card at me for services next time over $25. Ha! There won't be a "next time". What also didn't sit well w/ me was he said I should have mentioned that I was Vietnamese so that they could have offered me another rate or something along those lines. Doesn't matter what your nationality is - everyone should be paying the same price! My tech came around, poked at my still wet polished toes - the color faded and I pointed out to her how come the topcoat was not shiny? So she slapped on some top coat and I sat there for a while. She came back and told me that they should be super dry so I put on my shoes and the end result of my $18 service was crinkly bubbled up busted polished toes. Sad this place got bad! The staff was very unprofessional and shady! If Nail Bar and Spa pops up in your feed - make it a hard pass! Don't get played - save your hard-earned $$$ and go elsewhere. As a fan of Nail Bar & Spa, I am glad to see that they opened another location closer to me. The Saint Louis Park location has a plethora of nail colors to choose from and provide a modern way to do simple tasks. For instance, to soak off my dipping powder, they utilize reusable plastic clamps that contain a disposable material in which they soak the acetone with. Not sure if this is faster than the aluminum foil method, but it looks classier. The ambience is very modern and the music always has me tapping my toes and singing along. As for the wide screen TVs on the wall, they are usually always showing HGTV or advertising the many services they provide. The prices are competitive compared to other shops yet their service is the best that I have come across in the city. My nail tech Kay is both precise and fast. I have never been in there longer than an hour. What I love most about Nail Bar & Spa is the option of booking appointments online. I never realized how much I appreciated and needed this service. Was my first time at this location and had another coworker tell me about this place as we work right across the street. First off the interior is beautiful. Location is new so all items look fabulous still of course. I was warmly greeted and asked to pick a color. Talk about options. They have so many options it could make your head spin. I had Sonny as my nail specialist and he was very kind. Making sure the temperature of the water was to my liking and offering me a beverage. His foot massage was heavenly!! He did a fabulous job with the gel polish and taking care of my cuticle area to make sure I was satisfied. He did not rush at all and did a fabulous job. First time going here. I loved the online booking- made things easy! Their COVID protocol is solid and easy to follow. Wear a mask and you get your temperature taken at the door and answer medical screening before entering. Therefore, the front door is locked but the front desk person is on top of stuff! The salon is beautiful and huge! I think my nail tech said they can accommodate up to 125 people so they have plenty of room to still make things work with social distancing in place. I went to an appointment with a friend. Overall, a standard nail salon from the looks. The lady who did my pedicure barely spoke to me, yanked my all around and got upset when I was sure of where she wanted my feet. She caused two ingrown toenails, due to the way she cut and groomed my toes, in both of my big toes that had to be removed by my doctor due to the severity.
