-5 stars. This place is a scam. Don't go unless you like being nickel and dimed. Showing off my $114 dollar nails from NailboxLA along with my teardrops because I am so sick over my experience. I was charged to take the polish off my nails ($10) I was unknowingly charged another $10 for them to take the leftover polish off 3 of my toes. So $20 in polish removal. I wasn't even able to get the color I picked out. I showed them the design I wanted. It was a simple black tip in the shape of a V. She said okay. When it came time to do the design, THEN she said it would be an extra $25 dollars. I said no thanks and that I've kept that design on my nails for the past few weeks because I know my boyfriend is going to propose to me soon and now I hope he doesn't because this is not how I want my nails to look. She said she could do a black line across for $20. Again, I refuse to pay that. I was also cut on both my hands and feet. In total my bill was $114 and she actually asked me "no tip??" Sorry your tip was the $10 you charged me to remove polish chips from 3 toes. I'm going to my usual nail spot to have them redo my fingers. I might as well have set $114 on fire. Wanted to give 2.5, but I rounded up to 3. I used to come to this place all the time, but switched salons when I moved out of the arts district. Since last year, I moved back into the neighborhood and figured I would drop by because I needed a last minute pedicure. I used to love this place for their outstanding color selection, service, and care applied in each appointment. I was unfortunately surprised to find numerous changes. Instead of what I remembered as a meticulous and fairly priced service, I was charged $40 for an 18 minute pedicure. I don't mind price hikes when they are accompanied with high quality service, but my appointment was just too quick. Literally the fastest pedicure of my life. They didn't have fans for your toes, so the rest of my time was spent waiting for my toes to dry so I could leave. While the great color selection and friendly staff still holds true, my appointment felt hurried and inefficient. I felt I could have had a similar experience staying home - each step of the way, my technician flew through and I still had polish on the edges of my big toes. Don't get me wrong, my pedicure does not look bad. My attendant was also nice. But, she was booked for a manicure 30 minutes into my appointment, which explains why she needed to rush through mine. I'm disappointed that the salon has decided to structure their schedule in this way I'm sad to say this will not return as my neighborhood go-to. read more

I work across the street from Nailbox and came here on whim during one of my lunch breaks. I had looked up photos and already knew what color and design I wanted. I walked in around 2pm on a Weds and the first thing I asked the receptionist was whether they could do this design in 1 hour lol. During that time, there was only 1 other customer getting a pedi. The girl ran to the back to help me ask and she came back and said yes it's doable. So I went in and a girl first did my cuticles. I have to say, she did an amazingggg job! My cuticle experience has never been a pleasant one because 1. I almost always end up bleeding and 2. it just hurts. At Nailbox, I had neither! I didn't get her name but I remember she had a lot of tattoos on her arms and had a high ponytail. A different girl came to paint my nails after that. She told me I was lucky because the design I wanted required a lot of prep for the "glass" pieces and those needed to be cut. She said she had pre-cut a bunch the day before lol She did such an amazing job and was super careful about not getting and gel polish on my cuticles, she made sure there weren't any jagged edges. She also made sure to check that all of my nails were evenly coated. I am superrrrr picky the fact that she was so careful with my nails really made the cost worth it. She also kept checking the time to make sure she finishes on time! She ended up finishing with 2 mins to spare. I ended up paying $30 + additional $50 for my nails but I was expecting this price esp in the Arts District. I was one happy camper when I left. I received so many compliments on my nails and they lasted well over 3 weeks. I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends! read more

I don't usually write reviews. I love supporting small businesses, but I felt that this one was necessary for people deciding to come here to know. I decided to give this place a try. I showed them a picture of a design that I wanted and they said they can do it. After over an hour of trying they ended up not being able to do it, had to take it all off, and I ended up getting just a plain color (which I could have gotten elsewhere for a cheaper price and better quality). HOWEVER, what really makes me give this place a one star is that even after the design fail (which is fine cause they apologized and I got over it) I had two different nail technicians work on me and BOTH of them gave me a deep cut while working on my nails. They didn't even say anything about it after I winced in pain. I use a lot of hand sanitizer at my job so you can just imagine how that felt for the next couple of days. OH. On TOP of that, they have a $15 "COVID PPE" charge that they tell you about at the end while you're paying. This made me laugh and I couldn't believe it because their safety measures and "PPE use" is literally the SAME as every other nail salon. It was just the cherry on top of a disappointing experience. I had one nail with clear gel on it to repair because they cut off my natural nail. Very disappointed, even for such a simple booking. OKAY. I just went there last 03/07 for a gel pedicure. I booked my appointment 7:10pm with Tanja. I came in earlier than that time but I was assisted by Kaylee again. This time, she seemed a bit nicer than last time so I decided to move past my previous issue with her and just get service from her. What bothered me the most was instead of checking and making sure the job gets done she kept on checking on the other ladies doing their job for another client and the time. Not sure if the last person who leaves the salon closes and locks it but it sure looked like she did not want to be the last one to leave. They close at 8pm. The latest they offer on the site to get an appointment is 7:10pm. If they were to accept that time why are they so in a rush?? I paid $50 for the gel pedicure. I was not satisfied with how it looked because after a day the end of my thumb started to chip already. But just today, it just started to peel. I have been getting my nails done but this kind of service from the same person is not acceptable for me. I've said before that I would come back again because I liked the other girls but now I might have to reconsider. I did not want to ruin this nail salon for me so I booked my appointment with a nailtech I fet comfortable with but if despite that they will just throw me to whoever is available that time I might have to reconsider. I have been here a couple of times in the past, as it's close to my apartment and has free parking a HUGE plus for any business in the art district. I really like the way Tonya handled my mani/pedi my nails look amazing! I like that Tonya is detailed about the little things and takes her time to make sure you leave looking fresh. The Nail Box is chill nail shop that is reasonable by LA standards. Mani/Pedi (natural nails) $55 which is far cheaper and the same quality as Bliss at nearly half the price. I hope this is helpful. This is really close to my office. Takes me 3 minutes and free parking, you can't beat that! I came twice during the week because I could only take an hour lunch, so I had a pedicure on Wednesday and a manicure on Friday. The pedicure was good but the price is a bit too steep but I guess for what you get is not bad. I wasn't able to apply polish to my pedicure because of time and drying but they put notes on my profile that the next time I come in, that would be applied. My manicure was great! I did a regular gel manicure and had the works, and I was in heaven! Their service is great! I came here while in LA for a short trip. Made an appt for my friend and I on a Monday afternoon. The place was empty, it seems the nail technicians were only there for our appts. The interior is not as nice as the Instagram makes it seem, it is nice and open however. The technicians wasn't the most friendly. My friend felt an attitude towards her from the technician because she has very short nails. My manicure was alright, but she nicked one of my finger as she was cleaning the cuticles, kind of every manicure nightmare. My cuticles were dry at the time, but I've definitely had better cleaning with the same condition. Besides that the overall quality was okay. I liked their product, but at the price point the service was not warm, didn't offer water or anything when we got there early. The workers there didn't create a welcoming environment. I've seen some of favorite celebs getting their nails done by Nailbox LA and many amazing nails from them, maybe you have to know which technicians to request. Would not return. read more

Mediocre job for more money than I'd pay for a fantastic job at my usual nail salon. My nail tech was extremely slow and took almost an hour before she started painting my nails. (She only started rushing after I told her I had somewhere to be) I got home and noticed that my gel is super bumpy because she didn't smooth out my nails underneath after taking off my gel. Also, my cuticle area is suuuuuper dry now and it actually hurts. This has never happened to me before when doing gel! Definitely not worth coming back. Thought it'd be a good experience from seeing photos of the nail salon, but honestly it's nothing special. The only great thing is the location and free parking. I rarely leave reviews but it's been over 2 weeks and I'm still disappointed. I usually treat myself to a manicure on an annual basis for my birthday. Initially, I called for a gel manicure with design in advanced. I did not call last minute, so I'm pretty sure there was enough allotted time. However, when I showed them designs, they couldn't do it because it would take too much time. Ok. So I showed them more options. I figured gradual different shades of browns on each finger was definitely easier to do than designs. First, they didn't have enough shades of browns apparently. So, I asked if I could have one simple design on two fingers maxed which was what I originally called for and they still said no, they did not have time. Then, because there weren't enough shades of brown, I asked for all maroon/burgundy. The nail technician said two of my fingers were cured already so she couldn't remove it. Doesn't that not make sense if I called for a gel with two designs on the phone anyway? That should have been plenty of time. Plus, not even a week later, it started getting nicked which is very uncommon given that I've been here not once but twice here. And in two weeks, my nails started peeling and I've never had this happen before when I came here. In fact, their gel polish designs were hard to remove even in the past. I don't know what went wrong. Either the polish was bad or my nails weren't sealed at the edges. I even went out of my way to this location even though they had opened another location closer to me. I tried to see the upside for my visit here, but two weeks later, I'm still more than upset at the service I received. My nails are uneven both in shape and color application, and I'm convinced that my nail tech did not know what she was doing. I came in with glitter gel that had a coat of hard gel on top. Before the tech even touched my nails I made her aware of this. She told me that getting my existing gel off would be no problem. Great. After one try of getting my hard gel off and it not working, she got frustrated and told me to not get hard gel anymore because it was too hard to get off. Not a great start when you just told me this would be no problem. When my gel was finally off, she started prepping my nails without removing the file dust off my hands. In fact that file dust stayed during my whole appointment, even when lotion was applied. My arms were a sludgy mess when I left. The glitter gel application was brutal. I've been getting glitter gel for over a year now, and I'm pretty familiar with how it's done. Since I'm trying out new salons after moving, I've seen a few different ways, but its mostly all the same. This tech had NO IDEA what she was doing and got frustrated with me when things weren't going as planned, obviously doing whatever it took to get me out if the chair. Now there is gel coated under my nails, the color is bumpy, my cuticles are ripped and I am not happy with any part of this experience. My only saving grace is that glitter gel looks good no matter what just because its, well, glitter. Save your money. Your nails will thank you. read more

Despite costing $70 for a basic pedicure & gel manicure, this was the worst manicure experience of my life. The nail tech didn't even clean underneath my nails. I said ow several times and had to literally pull my hand away. She cut my nails WAY too short (they hurt now) and butchered my cuticles. I get my nails done every couple weeks so it's not like they were way overgrown. After trimming my nails down to the nail bed, she was literally unable to clean under the nails because they were so short. The color I chose is very light and you can see the dirt under my nails through it (see photos... 5 min after leaving). 1st photo shows how short nails are and 2nd shows dirt. No massage, no hand soaking, no nail cleaning, and I left the place in pain. It takes quite an experience to prompt me to leave a negative review.... I'm notusually the type to complain and still left 20% tip. That being said, my pedicure was good-- but for the price, should've been a lot better. Come and get your nails done if you're ready to drop a lot of money for mediocre gel nails. I came in because my regular lady was booked and my nails were getting very long. I went in knowing that they charge $35 for gel nails and $5 for removing the old gel. Here's the strange thing about this pricing...it's the same price if you got regular nail polish! I don't expect a lot of nail salons to use high quality gel products from Japan or Korea and obviously this place does not use any of those. That being said, I didn't expect their pricing to be as high as Japanese or Korean nail salons. I show her a picture of a design I wanted, very simple design of 2 colors (French tip for top and bottom of nail). The lady tells me it's $50 on top of the $35 gel. I ask why when I'm not getting any stones or glitter and then they talk amongst themselves and proceed to tell me it's $45 for design... by then I am frustrated at their lack of knowledge for pricing and how they can tack on so much money for design. As I'm looking through the pictures (most of which the owner herself posts) all these clients probably dropped upwards of $100 for their designed nails. Don't get me wrong all the ladies working there are very sweet. However, as my lady was removing my old gel she knicked my finger with the grinding tool and now I have an open wound. I know it was an accident and she apologized but real professional nail salons are painless and they are very careful. This lady was using the highest speed and going very fast...made my nail bed very hot and cut my skin! She also got gel polish all over my fingers... Another thing that bothered me was how almost every chair in there was stained and dirty...maybe have them cleaned or change them out to leather so it's easier to clean? Despite my rating of four stars , this cozy nail salon was wonderful. And I would definitely revisit. The entire staff was very nice. At one point, after I was done, we just chatted for a while. I came in with my sister, who received a gel manicure +takeoff and I received a gel pedicure + takeoff . We waited for a few minutes because somehow our reservation times were confused , but to accommodate, we both received a nice and hot paraffin wax. They also supplied us with cold water. I only rate this place four stars because of the lack of color to choose from compared to other salons I've been going to. My sister and I wanted a deep red, wine color for our feet and fingers and yet we only found three shades in the variety, all too light or not opaque enough for our liking. Also, when I came home, I noticed a few spots of unpainted/ unevenly painted nail and a small cut on my toe next to my nail. Must've happened while they were filing.
