i held back on a honest review because the staff is extremely nice - i've only been once and noticed they give fat discounts to regulars but their work is of low quality. technique is there, but the preparation and execution just wasn't. i got acrylic nails by walk-in and paid $75 ($15 tip because they were kind) my nails started lifting the day after getting them done which can be bad for moisture and fungus to grow. also hair gets stuck on it easily and makes doing simple tasks feel awkward. this can be avoided by proper nail preparation which my nail was barely prepped. she even smudged the polish on one of my fingers so i had a dent in my nail for the whole 4 days i had them on. i've been getting acrylics done since i was in middle school so i like to believe i know what it should and shouldn't look like, and how long they should last. i would've given another shot if the lady didn't charge me $60 for this low quality work. but i know for sure that i will not be coming back. read more

Staff is extremely nice, nails are very affordable. Came on Jul 24, 2019 and got gel mani and regular pedi for $44. They seem to know everyone in the neighborhood and knew I was new when I came in, and welcomed me in. They saw me right away (wed around noon with no reservations) and put a buck of hot water under my feet while they started working on my mani. If you're looking for hospitable, affordable, no frill nail salon, this is your spot. read more

Always a beautiful job well done. The technician is very meticulous with my manicure, nails always perfectly shaped. And now, they have a new attachment for their nail drill that doesn't get hot and feels less abrasive on my nails. And the nail technicians are just the sweetest! I stopped by this afternoon to get a gel pedicure and of course they were very nice and made time for me but it has been 4 hours and the turn out is HORRIBLE. Chips everywhere, every time is a different shape, and the painting is uneven. Waste of money. I really wanted to like this place. read more

Okay, this is an update. I decided to rate this place with more stars because I felt I was being too harsh on them. I have my own expectations on how people do my nails and this place does it best. Well particularly Mary and Kim. The owner, Jenny not so much. Everytime I find other nail salons that are recommended by yelp I always find myself going back to this place because they just do a darn good job. I found out on my last visit that Mary now does eye brow wax and let me tell you she does it very well. The prices are very resonable and I highly recommend this place. I came to Nails by Jenny after reading a friends recent review. It has been several months since my last visit to Nails by Jenny. Came in today for a gel mani & regular pedicure & paid $50 - which I don't mind if I was happy with the end results. SO SAD THAT MARY IS NO LONGER WORKING HERE. She was a perfectionist & ensured that you as the customer was happy with her work even if it meant she had to fix/redo a nail. My mom has recently discovered this place and loves their service. They are very friendly and considering the affordable prices, the quality/attention to detail can compare to a higher end nail salon. Her gel nails have stayed on for more than 4 weeks without cracking and they still look good. If you want to get your nails done quickly but beautifully you should go here. read more

This is the worst nail salon that you could go to they are very unsanitary and very very rude I went there and spent $60 just to have a chipped nail and one of my full set of nails coming off a day later the woman messed up my nail polish trying to fit both of my hands under one fan and just paint over it rather than taking off and fixing it because it was coded on top of that she wanted me to walk barefoot on the floor because they didn't want to give any sandals my feet still needs dry there was a lot of nail clippings on the floor and I refuse to do that she got upsetThis is the worst salon to go to save your money and take it elsewhere is very cheap not worth it!!! Well... it was an experience... the job was done at the end and my nail paint is still on very well over a week after the job was done. I didn't plan on being at a salon for two hours.. I literally had THREE people work on my nails! The first lady who worked on my nails was a complete novice. Not even sure if she has her certification yet. She did a horrrible job cutting my nails and prepping it. She even was cutting my skin and fingers.... the second lady took over after the first finished all ten fingers and they probably saw the displeasure on my face. She fixed all the fingers again and she did a good job there. After she finished though she apparently didn't know how to do the painting right so another lady took over the painting and did well there... after two hours, the job was finally done. I scheduled for 4:20 and didn't get in until 4:50. Left around 6:15pm. Ended up late for my appointment with friends and had to waste extra money on an Uber. The most experienced and best person seemed to be the last one to work on my nails. Her name is Nancy I think, so I would just ask for her next time. read more

I've been to this salon at least 2 times to try out with my sister. I went the 3rd time with my sister this past week and encountered a "bad" day with the owner Nancy who made crude and sarcastic remarks about the timing of our entrance; although, we had no appointment schedule. As a nurse and business owner myself, I'm all about Great Customer Service, and certainly, this is not what we experience on this date. Her crude manners and unprofessional approach with us clearly defines the need to improve in giving Good Customer Service and maintain professional demeanor at all times. I have been coming here for about 2 years just for pedicures... everyone is ALWAYS super friendly... it seems the staff knows everyone who walks in.... They can be busy b/c they're the only shop on leland, so making an apt is a good idea.. but sometimes you might still have to wait a lil... Maria takes care of my annoying ingrowing toes and i am so thankful for that.. it's nice to find a place that cares about making your feet feel good even if they're business seems like it's all about looking good on the outside... my only wish is that they had better quality polish.. i sometimes bring my own.. I am bratty about my nails. I am used to getting the crazy design stuff. (glitter, stars, rhinestones etc). So, when I walked in here trying to get done up before my birthday trip to Vegas, I had predefined what I wanted. I didn't realize the a nail salon in the ghetto is going to be so different than a nail salon in the suburbs. I wanted to bring my own powder but they wouldn't let me because they said it takes to much time. So I looked at their sample thing of nails and it looked like they had this really pretty purple powder tip. So when I asked for that, she did clear tip and then when it came to putting on the purple tip, she pulled out some nail polish... I was like no...no nail polish tips. Just give me french tip instead. So I ended up with painted acrylic french tips. ugh. They weren't too bad of a paint job. They lasted longer than I expected for $20 (with tip) and they did the job for the most part. 3 stars because it's cheap and I guess it's good for what you get in the ghettos. And also she was patient enough because I messed up the paint job during the drying process and she didn't really fuss and just fixed it. read more

Sure, Nails By Jenny doesn't have the big pedicure tubs and massage chairs that we all love when we typically get a pedicure. But it's been several days since I got my pedicure and it's still looking pretty good. No chips or bubbles or any of that sort of thing. I was with my (fairy) godmother and she mentioned she also wanted a pedi. I actually needed one too so I figured, "Why not?" I'll admit I was a little thrown off when I saw they didn't have the fancy schmancy pedicure tubs & massage chairs. And I'm not originally from South San Francisco so whatever, call me spoiled. I just haven't been to a nail salon in San Diego that doesn't have them. And I usually go to nail salons that are highly recommended on Yelp. The overall pedicure was decent, nothing too special about it. I did appreciate when my feet were scrubbed fairly well. I just wish there was more of a foot massage. It was like an anesthesiologist did it because I didn't feel a damn thing. And as far as my nails, they're still looking pretty good after almost a week so that's always a good sign. The price was pretty good too. I'm especially happy to see Leland Ave. looking a lot better than I remember it because of the street parking and fresh coat of paint on the businesses along the street. So I've been coming here since I was maybe 13. It is a nailshop run by the owner jenny. This place may not be the most up to date but the work is sooooo good. For pedis they use single tubs and change the plastic before every customer. I'll take this any day before I sit in a spa chair that doesn't work and carries millions of germs. I've never left here unhappy before. Jenny the owner, also does great eyelashes which a lot of people don't know. I used to go to san bruno ave but ever since I found out she does lashes I've been coming here since. They don't have very many polish colors so I suggest if you have a unique color you'd like to use, bring it with you. Got into town late due to a plane delay. Needed my nails done pronto. I go to an amazing salon in Vegas and I'm quite picky about the thickness, length, time it takes, and not being bothered while I get my nails done. No one wants to talk about life. Little polite conversation is great. This place was great. Spoke english ++ and my nails look amazing. Not too thick and not too thin. I've had them on for 11 days now. Fill for my acrylic tips with gel polish. Price was extremely affordable compared to Vegas. $30 for all. Happy customer =) read more

I finally found a nail salon that's a keeper!! Nails By Jenny has very reasonable prices and the staff is extremely friendly. I always feel at home whenever I come there. The shop is well maintained and the tools are always kept clean. I usually don't have to wait when I stop by during the week but for those of you who mind the wait, I suggest calling in for an appointment during the weekends since the place gets very busy. This has to be the neighborhood Nail spa for lots of us, which is a plus for me. I've only been here a couple times maybe 3 or 4 when my natural nails are messed up and I don't want to mess them up more by trying to shape them myself. So I usually just get shape and color. They are very nice and do an okay job. Then again it's a quick shape and color. But I noticed they charge me a different price every time 5,6 and even 7. I'm getting the same thing done every time. Oh we'll, not complaining. But after my last visit I AM NOT GOING BACK! I had short natural nails and they seemed to take forever to grow so decided to get acrylic. I like my acrylic nails to look natural so a cotton candy coat would do. I asked if she knew how to do natural acrylic nails. She responded with "yes yes I know" She rushed through the whole process! (Jenny worked on my nails) seems like she has preference on who to work with since she was chatting with a waiting customer. Worst nails ever. All the nails were different length and too thick. Didn't look natural at all. And she added too much thickness on natural nail. I was an unsatisfied customer. I still payed her $18 and thanked her. That same day I got them removed. Dumb move. Oh well. You get what you pay for. Rated a 2 stars just because their shape and color was decent with a decent price. read more
