Let me tell you the horror story of nails number 1. A girl and her friend were looking for a place to be pampered after being away from each other for a very long time. Nails number 1 was recommended to them as a fun place with amazing service, but upon arrival they soon realized their day would be ruined. The water was cold, even though they asked politely for it to be hotter. Their hangnails were yanked and blood was shed (literally). And finally, their pedicures were outrageously horrible. I'm so furious, I left nearly in tears. This place is close to my work, and being that I was in desperate need to get my eyebrows done, I thought I would give it a try. I have previously had pleasant eyebrow experience with other nail salons. I told the lady that I was allergic to wax and only wanted a trim to create more of an arch. She proceeded to trim away no where close to where the arch should be. Then I felt something warm on my brow. It was hot wax!!! I quickly told her again I don't want wax because I'm allergic to it and my entire face will swell up. She wiped it off with a waxing strip and didn't even apologize. She went back to the scissors butchering my brows as I watched trying to direct her what to do. I finally stopped her, told her she obviously didn't understand the simple service I had asked for and proceeded to the front counter to pay. I just wanted to pay and leave, never to return again. They didn't end up charging me which is good since I was nearly in tears. I left with uneven, messed up eyebrows. I was in desperate need to get my nails done, and not familiar with the area I came across this salon. I had my phone and yelped a nail salon I couldn't find it.. so I came here.. didn't have that many stars but then again I read some reviews..I decided to try it anyways (I was really on a time limit) not only that this place was open at 9am and closest to me, I came in for a manicure, I found a nice shade of plum, Lincoln Park after dark I believe its called? I love OPI and they had a ton of colors to choose from..the place is nice, seems clean..and the workers seem really friendly. The lady working on my mani, didn't bother with any small talk and just got right down to business, which I dont mind at all.. I was focused on the tv, they had the Regis and Kelly show on and it was quite interesting. The manicure was great and fast, and it lasted I think a almost 2 weeks without chipping, prices are cheap.. the only downside was the lady doing my mani was sorta pushing me to get more things done..all good tho..i was totally satisfied with my visit. I'm always in desperate need to get my nails done. I always never have the time or forget so they end up looking raggedy. Not a pretty picture. Came here because I work nearby. Got a manicure yesterday but didn't have time for a pedi so I had to atleast match my hands and feets. Place is clean overall. Workers don't really understand english. Not impressed with this salon after my first visit. Went in for a pedicure and picked my OPI color. They do have the nice leather massage chairs, but most salons seem to have those these days. I sat down and was presented with a printed menu. The cheapest pedicure was $35 which included paraffin wax dip and hot stone massage. Said yes because it was the cheapest one, or so I thought. My foot soak literally lasted one minute. As soon as I had my feet in the warm water, the nail tech had pulled one out to start working on my cuticles. Um, okay. There was a woman in there before me and her feet were still soaking, so this gal was definitely rushing the job. Didn't make sense to me because there was no one else waiting. Strike one. She did a nice job shaping my toenails. The salon has all the current OPI colors and they are not displaying old, ugly, empty bottles like some other salons. However, as I am looking around the salon, I see a price menu on the wall that says "Pedicures: start at $24". WTH? I was handed a menu that stated cheapest pedicure was $35. Strike two. The tech did a good job painting and I liked the color with my skin tone. I wait around for a good 15 minutes of drying time. I slip on my flip-flops and leave thinking, OK, not the best experience, but not the worst either. Three hours later, I am at home and the polish on my big toe smears when I'm walking around in my house. The next day after showering, the polish on my other big toe is chipping. So the paint didn't fully dry after three hours and the pedicure didn't even last 24 hours. Strike three. Waste of money and I won't be back. Will be trying another salon next weekend. read more

I DO NOT recommend giving business to this place whatsoever. This place is right next to my new gym so I was excited to try it. The prices for the most basic pedicure/manicure were reasonable, but the lady doing my pedicure kept trying to convince me to get the deluxe. She was extremely rude and tried to convince me to get gel polish also because I "didn't have flip flops to wear after and my nails wouldn't dry quick enough". (Even though they were handing out foam flip flops for all the customers....) The woman doing my toes was so rude as well and kept trying to get me to buy more expensive packages. Very pushy when it came to money. They did a good job on my nails but neither one smiled the entire time and were so snappy. Never, ever going back there again. Read on below: I had been a loyal customer (and a generous tipper) for 7-8 months, however, today I had to remove my OPI gel nails because of an allergic reaction I developed in my nail bed. That is no one's fault. Read on: After asking the technician to remove the gel, the technician (Lilly) asked me if I wanted to have a manicure after removing the gel, and I agreed. The technician did a horrible job on just giving me a simple manicure that SHE suggested and she rushed through the entire manicure. For example one of my nails was trimmed from the side with the clippers to shorten the time to file, which I did not have a problem with. The technician clipped a kind of V-shaped angle into the side of the nail and left it like that! The nail on my index finger on my left hand was very misshaped so I asked the technician to please shape the nail. To my amazement, she started to file the side that was already way over filed! I asked the technician to hand me the file to fix it myself. In addition, I had a lot of dead skin underneath the nail from the reaction to the gel, and while she cleaned it on my right hand, she was about to leave it on my left hand. As soon as she said "Go wash your nails, " I said aren't you going to remove all of the dead skin under my left hand? She reluctantly agreed to remove the skin underneath, but was about to leave it. (I really needed a second pair of hands to help me remove the skin underneath the nail that had died from the allergic reaction.) I could go on and on with more complaints that occurred in that short 45 minutes (specifically her inattentive service to her glaring mistakes), but I'll stop here and would advise you to FIND ANOTHER NAIL SALON, perhaps the one in the same complex on the other end of the strip mall. After my service this afternoon, I called the manager, Helen, who said she was the owner, and did not get an explanation for the shoddy service I received from Lilly, however, she said "sorry." Wow, I feel so much better now .... not! The Good News is that nail salons are a dime a dozen and I'm finding a NEW one very soon. It is NOT at all that I am picky, but if a nail technician asks you to wash your hands before applying polish and the side of your nail looks like this: /\_/\ (sharp edge followed by flat area followed by nail tip) before you wash your hands, something is really awry with the technician. I had been very loyal to this place for seven or eight months since I had begun to apply the Shellac/Gel, and the treatment here today screams "I JUST WANT YOUR MONEY, but you REALLY don't matter". I proceed by having a conversation with my girl about her upcoming Labor Day plans, but she has told me about the boss, Helen, making her work. Helen, do you know what Labor Day is? I am offended that you don't acknowledge this holiday, especially when you are in the nails industry. The hardworking girls deserve at least Labor Days off considering they work long hours every day. My impression of the boss is she seemed a bit too greedy. Anyways, I was somewhat satisfied with the nail art, but I wasn't happy that the employees were overworking. I have been coming to this salon for a little over a year. Helen, the owner, is amazing. She always turns my icky nails into fabulous ones. Lynn is the best at a pedicure. I came here for a mani pedi last weekend while I was visiting my cousin in Mountain View. I usually prefer doing my own nails at home because most nail salons like this don't pay attention to detail and provide sub-par quality even though they charge you $40 for a regular mani pedi. Hoping for the best, I picked my nail polish color and they proceeded with the mani pedi. Everything was just OK - not great quality, but not obviously bad either. Until the application of the nail polish... I had to ask them to go back and clean up and correct multiple times, to the point where it was uncomfortable for me because they kept giving me a little bit of attitude each time. If they would just pay attention and NOT rush through everything, maybe they wouldn't have as much to fix! I gave up on asking them to correct and left with nail polish covering my cuticles and a half applied top coat on 6 out of 10 fingers. It would have been all 10 fingers had I not said SOMETHING, but of course they took the lazy route and only fixed things partially. The nails with partial top coats became extremely obvious after a few days of wear and tear....it pains me to have to pay for such poor service. Businesses who don't care about quality and service should not be in business. My advice....do your own nails at home. It's cost efficient and fun. Money never guarantees good quality or service and who likes paying money for crap they could've done better themselves? read more

I was there about two months ago and had a terrible experience. I guess the girl that did my nails was not in a good mood. All I wanted was a French tip manicure she did it in about ten minutes.. She also so managed to cut me fairly deep and didn't even apologize. And she made me pay first..and when she was done she just left me there and took off. Very unprofessional... to say the least. I have been coming to this nail salon for a few years now. My visit today will be my last. The ladies are becoming ruder and ruder. I always come to this salon for pedicures and facial waxes. The workers do not engage in any conversation with you and speak to each other the whole time. The lady who did my pedicure today just left me on the seat after I was done. Usually, they walk me over to a dry light, recheck my nails to make sure they are dry, then proceed to tell me the total amount. The manager lady walked over to me after about 5 minutes on the seat and begin putting my flip flops on. As soon as she was done, she said $20. I told the manager lady that I wanted a wax as well. They look flustered, and then a few minutes later, had me proceed to the back. The lady who waxed me was very nice and gentle. The wax was extremely hot and I told the lady it was too hot on my skin ( I have been burned before at other salons, so I wanted to prevent this). She waited a bit, then proceeded to put the wax. She begin adding the wax way too deep,on my throat, and I had to remind the lady this is not where I asked to be waxed. It was very uncomfortable. When it was finally time to pay, the wax was $12 and the pedicure $20. Usually, waxes are only $6. I paid the $32 and tipped the ladies anyway. Now that my pedicure is dry, I see that it needed another coat. My experience was not great and it was not horrible. I wish the lades were nicer but I guess you get what you pay for. There are so many other nail salons I have been to that have better service for the same price as Nails Number 1. read more

I just had a pedicure & manicure there and just left on cloud nine. Seriously, it was so good, my tip was $25. The service is very nice. I broke one of my toes a while ago, and it still hurts; they were very careful and mindful of that. Tina did my nails, and it's my fault, I picked a color I didn't like. So after 3 nails, I ask her if I can change, and she was surprised, but she said no problem, and recommended something more transparent which I TOTALLY love. I've been by this place numerous of times, but hesitant to go in, since I am very picky about where I get my nails and pedi done. I came here in desparate need of a fill (which had been more than 3 weeks) and a pedicure. The pedicure was great - no complaints there. I needed a fill so bad, but it seem like the lady rushed through my fill, because it was starting to get busy. She didn't fully take off all the nail poslish because I noticed speckles here and there after she put on the gel. Some of my nails were lifting and instead of telling me she just put glue on it. It hasn't even been a week yet, and all my nails are lifting and looks cheap. Overall I would come back for a pedicure, but not for a fill. read more

Honestly waste of time AND money. I called for an appointment and when I went in the lady didn't even tell he co-worker I wanted me appointment with her so I had to wait like 25min so she could finish her client. So she started doing my nails and I wanted my acrylics off and my natural nail with shellac. So she started ripping my nails off (it didn't hurt btw) but she was doing it very rough and broke my nails so then I told her I just want acrylics again I mean she broke my nail anyways. So she does my nails and they are so uneven when you rub them and even by looking at then you know the nails aren't even so she does my nails and uses the gel polish and literally the day after the gel started peeling! Okay so I got my pedicure and manicure from this place a couple days ago for my Vegas trip today! The inside is just like any regular little nail shop, nice ladies. I Came in for a gel mani pedi! But the quality of the work is terrible!!!!! The day after my nails started chipping and breaking!!! My toe nail chipped in the side and it's just so ugly!! This was very disappointing. The lady was in a hurry to get to other customers and she therefore did not take her time with us. I had to ask her to fix my nails several time. The color that was applied was not even and she did not bother to clean the excess around the nail bed. Pretty happy with my experience here. They have a wide array of gel colors to choose from, and they offer a nice, quick, shoulder massage after your manicure. I travel a lot around the bay, so I've gotten manis at lots of places, but this was a horrible experience. Lady cut my finger, only did one coat of color, then smudged my color and didn't fix it.
