Some of the nail techs here are generally nice, but there's two that are especially awful. One must hate her job/life so much that she goes out of her way to make customers feel bad by obviously talking about them and then cutting their nails and placing the cutaway nail pieces on their forearms or feet. It's the oddest thing I've ever seen. This goes for any job, if you hate it that much, just quit! It will be better for you and everyone. Stop being so miserable, it's not cute. read more

Don't make an appointment as it's useless. Every time I make an appt they make me wait 30 minutes to an hour upon arriving. What's the point of an appointment if they can't stick with it. Just walk in and if your lucky they will take you if not go to another local nail salon in DTLA. Not worth you wasting your time. read more

$22 for a non-spa mani pedi. And they let me come in at 6:30pm when they close at 7pm. My nails look good, not extraordinary but worth the price. THey have OPI and Essie brands and a pretty decent range of colors. This place is walking distance from me and I've never had to wait. Note: I never get fake nails so I can't comment on that part. The place is rude, inexperienced and messy. I had a horror nail story from a previous nail salon, popped in this nail salon on my lunch break to get my gel removed so I could let my nails breath. I requested the gel to be removed delicately as my nail beds are VERY sensitive and weak and I would prefer **no filing** because my nails are thin enough. Who knew I KNEW how to remove gel better than the girl removing my gel? She put an ENTIRE cotton ball on each finger, would hold it with her thumb, and pore acetone all over her finger that was holding the cotton ball and let it seep into the cotton ball. Made 0 sense.) Anyone who gets their nails done regularly knows you usually pull the cotton ball apart and put it on several nails. She kept filing my nails and I would pull them away as it burned. Finally all my nails were wrapped, and she left me sitting without saying anything. She went to sit on a chair and be on her phone. After 10 minutes, I said excuse me, can you remove my gel? She came over and because she did not use the correct ratio of cotton & acetone the gel would not lift. I'm pretty sure the owner came over and started yelling at me as to WHY the gel would not come off is because I would not let her file. I AM THE CUSTOMER, you do not yell at me. I asked for a delicate removal upon service and you agreed, so what is this issue? I said, I let her file but it was burning my nails. She continued to yell at me saying I didn't let her file enough and finally I told her, I LET HER FILE THR TIME LAYER AND IT WAS BURNING MY SKIN. I CAN FEEL IT, SO I KNOW. I DO NO NOT WANT A LOT OF FILING AND YOU AGREED. Thankfully, most of the gel came off. The nail tech did not know how to shape nails after cutting them down. Complete disaster for such a simple task. AND adding lots of pressure on the nails I explained were delicate. Bad energy in this salon and I am so happy I didn't have to experience an actual gel manicure as I am sure I would not have been satisfied based on how I was treated. BEWARE! read more

I absolutely love coming here; so much, that I drove anyone after work to get whatever service I need. Sandy is amazing and her staff is very welcoming as well. She listens to what you want and takes her time. Moreover, she is super hard working and despite times she may be tired, she is never gimpy grumpy and beyond grateful to fulfill your needs. I have never written a bad review but this place needs it. Came in here to get some acrylic nails taken off. This was my second time getting this exact service. The first time I came in here about two months ago they charged me $5. This time one of the women that worked there charged me $10... umm.. That's double the price. I pointed out the fact that that wasn't their original price plus I was already missing 4 nails!! Half their work was done!! The same woman rolled her eyes and said $7. I didn't want to keep arguing about how horrible their customer service is plus I don't care about a few damn dollars. It's just about the way they treated me and dismissed my concerns. Doesn't stop there. It took two ladies to take off my nails? This should have all been a pleasant and simple task but nope. This salon is always empty and it is for a reason. Three solid days of walking around downtown LA had done wonders for my fitbit ranking but had been atrocious for my pedicure. After me and my gals finished up a Sunday afternoon of shopping in the fashion district we decided the ideal stop en route home would be a mani/pedi. As we walked back to the hotel we spotted nails on ninth. It was almost 6 but they were open to taking us. The color selection was alright. Mostly Essie, OPI and some brands I didn't recognize. There are only two spa chairs, three nail stations, and several plain chairs. This is a standard run of the mill quick and out nail spa. No frills about it. You can however choose which movie to screen on one of the two TVs via netflix, which is cool. The pedicure was detailed but quick. She paid attention to the cuticles but was very quick and unfocused with the pumice even after I requested an additional scrub. The "massage" was non existent and was not followed by the standard hot towels. Disappointment. There was barely any lotion! :( The whole thing took 20 minutes tops. $20 for 20 minutes. I came in for a spa mani/ped and the first thing I noticed when I walked in this salon was the sterilization units for the utensils which is a must if you want to make sure you and your nails stay healthy. I also noticed thin disposable liners for the foot spa on the spa chairs and yes the do throw them out after each use. I think this is my new nail salon. I'll start by saying I am generally not too picky when it comes to nail salons. As long as the place is clean, the polish lasts a relatively long time and the price isn't outrageous, I'm perfectly satisfied. I popped in to Nails on 9th simply due to its proximity to my work. It should have been an indication of what the experience would be like when I saw a customer having a verbal shouting match with the business owner, which resulted in the customer filing her own nails because the business owner was doing a very uneven job. I thought, maybe she's just a diva, and tried to just focus on my own experience instead. Despite having the spa pedicure chairs, my request for a pedicure took place in a small bucket on the floor, a floor which looked like it had not been swept or mopped in 40 years. When my hands were on the desk getting manicured, it was like I could feel the grit and dust from all the nails that had ever been filed on it. Very unclean, off-putting environment. The woman who prepped my nails essentially butchered them. She cut so deep into the sides of where the nail meets the finger flesh that I left with 3 bleeding nails, which are still sore this morning as I write. After she prepared my nails, apparently the gel polish could only be completed by one woman, despite having 6 employees in the building, 3 of which were doing nothing. I had to wait for the self-filing girl's nails to be done before the lady could do mine. While I was waiting, I was watching a lady give a pedicure and file toenails without even looking at her client's foot because she was watching TV. Overall, it took more than 2 hours to get a pedicure and gel manicure. During the gel manicure, a pile of gel globbed up on the side of one of my nails. I asked the manicurist to redo the nail, and she refused. Instead, what she did was take the clippers and CUT a portion of my nail OFF along the side. I was already in so much pain from how they had really gone deep on the sides of the nails, but now, I also have a 1/8 vertical section of my nail missing, because rather than doing the right thing, the lady thought this was some lazy fix for her mistake. I started bleeding again. There is a gap between where my nail ends and my skin begins where she carved out her mistake. What in the world. I will never come back. If you are in desperate need of a manicure, I would say that you are better off with whatever you have going on than coming into Nails on 9th. Definitely NOT worth your time, money or the risk of having a very painful and dirty experience. read more

I, like many yelpers on here, was excited to find a nail salon in downtown for good prices. Usually I go to Neihule, and they do a fantastic job, but its a little pricy. But as the saying goes, you "get what you pay for". I walked into this salon for a FULL SET and it took the lady 90 MINUTES! Full set french acrylics should take 45 minutes tops. In the middle of My service, the lady (Her name is KIM) was actually working on another lady in a pedicure chair, while I'm sitting there with my nails partially finished! I have never had such a poor full set put on. The shaping was horrible, the white tips were un even. And you know what else? A brand new full set/or a brand new fill should last 2 WEEKS. Mine lasted 5 DAYS before it started peeling and looking like shit. AND the lady (Remember, Her name is KIM) put on the acrylic over top of a HAIR that was on my nail! A little tiny fuzzy looking piece of hair was sitting there underneath it and she said she was done. So I made her take all the acrylic off, she literally had to file the entire acrylic off to remove the hair. Very poor craftmanship. AND this was the Most PAINFUL fullset I have ever had put on, EVER! She used the electric filing tool hard! It was burning me! And I kept telling her. I was about to give this nail salon a 2nd chance (because I believe everyone deserves a 2nd chance at life) But after my HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AT NAILS ON NINTH, I decided to call my beloved Neihule Salon. Thank you Neihule! They got me in for a fill and a polish change the SAME DAY! Please stay away from this place. You will leave the salon 5 times more stressed out, than you were when you arrived. OMG these ladies are stupid! I walked in for a foot massage. There were two women standing outside, and for some reason she thought I was with them. I kept telling her "I am alone. I need a foot massage". Finally "Ok 15 minutes" I sit and wait, and wait. People come in and she tells them that she is too busy, but free in half hour, so I think "Ok, I'm next!" Finally, after a half hour, I walk. She runs down the street after me, and is like "I think you waiting for those girls?" Why? Because I'm a dude or because we are all white? What a waste! It says "foot massage" on the window! In English. I'm sorry, but I don't think I have to yell "I NEED A FOOT MASSAGE" 12 times, no matter what the savings. Nails on 9th is a new nail salon that recently opened up in downtown L.A. It's across the street from where I work so coming here is really based more on convenience than anything else. At $20 for a spa pedicure I guess that's pretty average for L.A., but I still think it's a bit much. I usually get french pedicures which is an extra $3 and to get a nail design like a little flower or something is an additional $5. I've gone to a couple different girls and they've both been pretty good. My pedicures usually last about 2-3 weeks. If you live or work close by I'd give it a shot. I believe they also offer waxing and quick massages. read more

I'm here now. It's an okay place. I came to get a mani pedi. I had no idea that some pedicures happen outside of the big comfy spa chair. Apparently you have to tell them you want a spa pedicure to get the chair but I guess that was my fault. Every time I've gotten a pedicure anywhere else I automatically got the chair. So there was one person working on my feet while another worked on my nails. It was a sub par experience. Kind of uncomfortable since I was just sitting in a regular Rollie chair with my feet going straight and my torso twisted toward the lady doing my nails. It was just uncomfortable. I would have rather they did one service at a time. The shop was empty when I came in so there was no reason to rush. Also when I came in it was a little weird because they had like their whole family in there and I didn't know who was in charge for like 30 seconds. I've been waiting to pay since before writing this review. They have other clients so I feel like I'm being ignored while my feet dry. The timer on the fan on my feet went out before I started writing this review. I got no little flip flop slippers to put on. The medi/pedi massage part was super wack. Not enough lotion and not enough care for the work. The lady was looking off in all other directions not really paying attention. At one point someone with a baby came in that they knew and she was distracted looking and talking to them. The cuticle cutting was a little rough. Though I admit I had a bunch of dead skin. It pinched several times but I didn't see any blood. I probably won't come back. read more

The place is untidy, doesn't look clean. The person who did my gel nails was sick and was literally coughing in my face. The job wasn't that good. She cut me and also the finish is not good. She didn't put enough gel and the edges were not near at all. It lasted barely 1 week before I started to lose the gel polish. Gel usually last at least 2 weeks. It was a waste of money and time. Kind of surprised at the reviews here-- it's so cheap, and my manicure is amazing. It still looks perfect after a long and very active weekend. I actually hate getting my nails done, but I like having nice nails. I'm not in it for the fancy experience. This place is perfect for me-- nothing fancy, cheap price, but really lovely results. I'm sure the other reviewers are truthful, but they seemed to really try hard to give me a pleasant experience and great looking nails. Perhaps they read some of the reviews and stepped up their game? In sum, don't come here if you're used to a luxurious experience, but I definitely recommend them as an inexpensive way to walk out looking less lizard-like. read more

OK, first of all, Yelp, can you please fix your dang search engine so that when I type in "Nails on Ninth" instead of "Nails on 9th," you still give me the link to the appropriate review??? There's 10 frustrating minutes of my life I'll never get back. Out of desperation, I broke my own rule of not letting anyone in the "213" touch my feet and decided to try this place out for their basic pedicure. The whole "spa pedicure" at these types of nail salons just seems complete absurdity. If I'm looking to get pampered, I'll travel out of the area and hit LA Vie L'Orange or some place similar. If I'm coming here it's only to get my feet into a position where I'm not afraid of scaring small children if I walk outside wearing sandals. Today for some reason I feel like channeling Randy Jackson and will tell you, Dawg, that for me this place is Ah-ait. It's very clean, they carry good quality polish, and even though they usually close by 7:00, if you call ahead they will likely stay open later if they know business is coming. My lady was a little frazzled, trying to handle both my unkempt footsies, the telephone and closing out customers, and in one moment of frenzy while she was pumicing my feet the scrubber went flying out of her hand and half way across the room. Which was funny...until she just picked it up off the floor and started using it again. I don't know. Like I said, the place was very clean. But to me the more appropriate thing to do in that situation would have been to grab a new scrubber. Came here because it was conveniently close to a gym my friend goes to. The place is small and their chairs and equipments are long overdue for renovations. The chairs are extremely old and worn, I'm almost scared to sit in them. I walked in and the ladies just looked at me like I must have walked into the wrong store. An older lady painted my nails. A Korean movie was on and her eyes were glued to the tv screen. I wanted to change my mind and walk out. The gel color selections were very basic. If you want to try something different, this isn't the place to come to. They didn't have anything I was really looking for. I ended up going with a soft pink, something I could have done myself at home. There was absolutely no hand massages and/or cuticle clippings provided, but the end price was $15. Very cheap, but I'd rather go somewhere else and pay more to receive better service where I can be happy with the service. read more

I've been coming here around 2 years. My gel mani's are great from the younger lady. She's not gentle and she moves fast. That's what I need on my lunch break. They have good colors too so that's a plus. I don't really care who does my pedi since I do my nails every other week, year round. It lasts so I'm happy. It's $41 bucks!! Love this place! I've been going here for 2 years and I can't complain. The ladies are always friendly and efficient. If you want to sneak in a manicure during your lunch break and still enjoy a sandwich this is your place. A manicure usually takes about 20 min and costs $10. Not bad at all. They have a great color selection as well. I would suggest always going with the OPI colors. While the Essi colors are adorable and tempting, they don't last as long as the OPI. My manicure usually lasts a solid 4-5 days without chipping. Overall this place is great-- parking is a breeze, the ladies are friendly, and the manicure is quick and legit. read more

Came here last week during my visit to LA for a sales conference. My pedicure was 5-star, but the acrylic full set was 1-star. That leaves me with a 3-star average rating. My pedicure: it was fantastic and I've never experienced better. She took her time, addressed my cuticles, and polished my toes to perfection. Not a single chip of the polish, and I have been to the beach, have gone to multiple dance classes, and have worn several pairs of pointed toe shoes. My acrylic full set: absolutely horrible. First of all, it has only been a week and my white polish has turned tan-brown because of the cheap top coat. The top coat is also chipping which make my nails look even more ridiculous. And 2 of my nails have cracked horizontally in the middle of the nail. She did not drill the acrylic down near the cuticle area, so the nails are very lumpy and don't look like they are naturally growing from my nail bed. I had to force her to drill it down, and even then, she did it very poorly and with attitude. Worst experience ever. read more

It's within walking distance from my loft, inexpensive and they provide your basic fill/mani/pedi services. I come here because they're fast and efficient. I moved to Los Angeles, about a year ago and have been looking for a salon to stick to. My mother owns a salon back in Arizona, so I've grown up with a clean and friendly environment getting waxes, pedicures, and manicures. On a Friday I decided to give this place a shot after getting flyers passed to me at the nearby Ralphs for a $10.00 Manicure. It's a lot cheaper than the salon I was going to on Hope St. Bottom line was that this place gave me a great manicure that has lasted me through a weekend home renovation. My roommate got her manicure done as well, and even when she messed up her nail they fixed it without any stress. They woman that did my nails was professional with asking me if I wanted more than two coats of nail polish, and when I last minute suggested glitter there was no extra charge. Don't just come here because this place is cheap, but because they do a great job. They're clean and don't mind walk-ins. read more

It's absolutely no surprise this place has such low ratings. I went in there for a shellac fill and the entire place had no one in there. The minute I asked if they could give me a fill, I could tell that they didn't "feel" like it based off of their tone and expression. From there they looked at my hands and said we do not do fills.
