Nail South looks basic from the outside, and seems like most nail salons on the inside too. The reasons I keep coming back: The BEST pink + white/french powder gel manicures ever (Lasts 3 weeks), the consistency of what I want. I've called 2x 30 minutes before closing time to see if they could fit me in, and they were happy to have me. They even stayed open 15 minutes after closing to finish my manicure. I have been to a lot of nail salons in Decatur and I must confess, I like the service here. The quality of the work is great for the price. First of all the ladies are much nicer and don't seem like they are talking about you behind their back. They don't seem as rushed as in some other Decatur salons (no names but the place near Publix is terrible). Terrible job on my manicure - was chipping and cracking in less than 2 days! When I went to speak to them about it they told me I washed my hands too much (how can they assess that?), and didn't bother to try to do the right thing. They were also fairly rude - the manicurist was talking on the cell phone the entire time I was there. read more

I have been going to Nailsouth every week for 3+ years now. They do a consistently good job! The technicians are warm and friendly and the owners (Lisa andn Joe) are wonderful people! The prices are more than fair and from what I have experienced in other salons, more than competitive. Recently, they bought new upgraded massage chairs and added some additional services that I really enjoy! I like to go in the evenings during the week or on a week day because they aren't as busy as the weekends. I have never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes even at peak time during the weekends. I came here to relax and get a pedi. Instead I got the loudest most obnoxious tech who screamed when talking her native language. No one spoke English and I got the worst headache after all the screaming. I will not come here again. They also up charge you on simple things that should be included in the pedi like cleaning dead skin. That was $5 extra. Also an old man came into the salon while the tech was painting my nails. Rather than help the struggling man they laughed so hard and talked in their native language. It was just too annoying to even care when my nails sucked. I just wanted to get out. read more

I went to Nails South yesterday at 10am and my service was good. I got a full set and pedicure. Kathy did my nails and was very nice. They do start to get busy on a Saturday so you should try to get in early. They have a wide selection of nail polish including OPI which is my favorite. They also have a new loyalty rewards program that gives you 1 point for every visit and when you get 10 you will receive 10 dollars off your total. read more

Probably the BEST spa nail salon service I have experienced in a long time. I enjoyed my organic aroma lavender pedicure with a leg and foot massage, topped off with warm towel service. They have a great selection of fall colors - ON TREND. The spa chairs are state of the art - That NEW NEW!! The staff are all very nice and treat people well. I am SHOCKED at the negative reviews on here. I have been going to Nail South for years now and have always had exceptional customer service. I have never seen anyone else be treated "rudely" either. Lisa and Joe pride themselves in taking care of their team and their customers. I get gel manicures (by Loan), spa pedicures (by Lee, Lisa's sister) and eyebrow waxing (by Lisa or Loan) and have always been very happy with the prices, the service and the finished product. Used to the go to salon in the neighborhood for fast, friendly and reasonably priced mani/pedi's. I think they have new owners; staff is not familiar nor friendly. I was told they would start mani in 2 minutes (after started working on my nails) and tech left to work on another customer-no explanation or apology. There are many competitors so closely, so very hard to understand why so disinterested in good customer service. read more

I went into the salon for the first time today. Immediately they tried to convince me to get SNS instead of the acrylics I asked for. Several times I had to say no. Women doing my nails couldn't get the shape I wanted right after I asked for them to be skinnier and showed photos. I eventually gave up, cause they had become so short and wide. She proceeded to apply the acrylic putting none on the sides and on the back it looked like o already needed a fill in, and gaps on the sides. So I asked her to fill it in several times showing her the spaces. Then she started to file, the electric file slipped out of her hand rolled all the way around my finger cutting my whole finger, she also cut my pinky nail with the regular file. Another worker saw me looking at the cut and took over. She proceeded to then try to upsell me on gel polish, I let her know I was unhappy with being cut and with the outcome of the nails overall and she just disregarded it and said gel would make it better. I continued to let her know I didn't want to pay extra for gel, when I already didn't like them. She said she would only charge me $5 for gel. I still didn't want it. So I went and got the Regular color polish I wanted, and she went and got a gel that was the same color, and did gel anyways and charged me for it. I left paying $35 for a full set that's was not what I ask for or like, and 2 cuts. I do not suggest going here if you have any other option. Save your money and go elsewhere. I paid full price, and got discount for gel I never wanted. 0-5 stars. Sorry. read more

I go to Nail South almost every week for an American manicure. I like the people there and think that Lisa the owner is a very nice person. Their prices are very good and I am surprised by reading a couple of negative reviews. They are always accommodating to me and I have seen them do lovely special nails for others. I just like the plain American so I never venture to get the other services other than a regular pedicure. I think they do good work. They are not a spa...but a nice neighborhood nail salon. If you go more than once, they will get to know you. read more

Did not honor their discount program. I have spent over $700 in the last year. Each time, I logged in the discount program with my number. The machine went down on my 10th visit (the one I should have gotten $10 off). I was told by the owner not to worry, they would give it to me the next time I was in. I returned, had my services and reminded the owner of he discount. I was told they would not honor it and I had to start over. After spending over $700 in services they can't honor $10 off. No, I'm not starting over. Instead, I found a more salon. read more

Went here on a whim after noticing the sign on my drive home, and I must say it probably one of the best impulse decisions I have made. On my first visit, Lisa did my nails and she was incredibly friendly and did a wonderful job. She not only went out of her way to make sure I was fully satisfied throughout the process, but also mingled with other customers as well. The staff here does high quality work at a very affordable and genuinely tries to get to know customers, which I really appreciate. Both times I have visited I was in and out of the salon in 30-45 minutes and did not have to wait. Additionally, there is a rewards program - each time you spend $10 or more at a visit, you earn a point. After earning 9 points, you receive a $10 discount on your next visit. The salon is conveniently located at the intersection of LaVista and N Druid Hills Rd, but beware - it is a busy parking lot and not many spaces. All nail techs speaking another language all around you makes you feel like a total outsider. Assembly line treatment - one doing toenails while one does fingernails. Not relaxing at all. Moved from chair immediately after finishing toenails resulted in damage to new Polish. I asked for toenails to be cut straight across. She rounded them so had to go back and cut too short to not have them rounded. Not a good experience. read more

My daughters and I all got gel manicures (three coats) which were supposed to last three weeks. Instead they lasted five days. I have been going to Nail South for years on and off, but decided to make it my regular nail salon. I live in Midtown, but the drive to the Lavista area is well worth it. The quality is great, and the prices are much cheaper than in the city. The ladies are all very nice, and do high quality work. I can get ingrown toenails, and the staff really takes the time to cut it out and make sure it's not hurting anymore, which is a big plus as I've been told by other salons they don't deal with ingrowns. The sugar scrub with the pedicure is $5 extra, but I think it's worth it because they really massage your feet and legs for a while. It always feels great, and is so relaxing. I always went for pedicures, but recently started getting the gel manicure. The manicure always looks great and my polish lasted for 2.5 weeks before it started to peel, but it still didn't chip. They have a loyalty program, which I haven't seen many other nail salons do. I've gotten to know the ladies at Nail South and they are all very nice and do great quality work. Sometimes there is a wait, but they do their best to get you in a chair. read more

Been in Atlanta for over 5 years and I can say this is definitely my favorite Nail spot. They are very friendly and fast! I typically only get pedicures but this last time I decided to get a manicure as well and tried the gel-nails.. Sam did them and I absolutely LOVE THEM! They're horribly rude and overpriced. I went two days ago and that will be the last time. They completely ignored a sign they had out front saying that a set of acrylic nails would be $20 and charged me $47 for the nails and a pedicure...the pedicure alone couldn't have been $27! Because of the obviously inflated price, I only left a $5 tip. But they were lucky I left a tip at all! After leaving $5, the lady finished off my nails very hastily and went and bitched about me (in Vietnamese) to a lady who appeared to be the owner. The owner would NOT leave me alone and kept trying to upsell things to me every two seconds. They don't even ASK if you want acrylic nails, they immediately try to get you to buy the solar, gel or diamond nails acting like acrylic isn't even an option. Annoying. Then they glare at you when you don't want all the bells and whistles. It's just an unpleasant experience that I don't recommend to anyone. Go somewhere else! read more

I've been going here for years mainly because I like most of the staff and several of them do an exceptional job. I also like their massage chairs and the fact that they use pedicure tub liners/bags that they change out with every customer. In the last year however, I've become very annoyed with the constant attempt at upselling by management. When I answer you once and say "no thank you"....stop trying to talk me into it or push things on me!! I go there to relax, sorry but....leave me alone. Not to get too harsh or personal but Lisa (owner) is so focused on making money, that she has what I call "customer ADD"! She starts to talk to you, then when you engage in conversation, she's just too distracted on other people to even hear what you have to say. They also need to be honest about wait times and set realistic expectations. Last weekend I watched a lady wait for EVER and they kept telling her...."2 more minutes". She finally started to walk out the door and Lisa asked her why she was leaving. When she politely explained the reason, Lisa actually got a bit of an attitude with her!?? Had the TRUE, honest wait time been communicated up front, you probably wouldn't have lost that customer. Also, why is there a sign-up sheet in the waiting area when you sometimes use it, sometimes don't and you're so confused when trying to figure out who's next?? That's a pretty simple thing to figure out I would think when you have a sign-up sheet right there! One last thing....staff yelling across the whole salon to each other really ruins the relaxation aspect of a mani/pedi. read more

For all those who have written reviews that they are "shocked" by the negative ones, I have another negative one to add. I get the S&S nails. I've gotten them there several times at Nail South. The last two times were both a disaster. The first bad experience happened several weeks ago. The girl hurried through the procedure, took short cuts and the result was she had to re-do 3 nails because that were so bad. She was rude and kept knocking my hand away like she was swatting a fly. I went last night. It was not busy. Another girl did my nails. I couldn't understand one word she said. She too cut corners. One of the bottles of solution was getting very low. It didn't cover my nail. She kept jabbing the brush back into the bottle but it didn't work because it was almost empty! Duh! The result was that because of this, some of my nails came out lighter or darker than the others. My nails looked INSANE! The result? She had to do them over! Here's some advice, do them right the first time! Also, both times I had to tell these girls to file the nails down. When you first have the color powder on the nail is a little thick. They were going to leave it this way! Both of them! I arrived yesterday at 4 pm and left at 7. So disappointed. You can't complain because no one speaks any damn English! The owners were not present yesterday afternoon. They do both speak English. read more

I got a new set of SNS nails last week. First, I told my nail tech I wanted "almond" shaped nails. He didn't know what I was talking about. I had to show him a picture from Pinterst. Well, He did okay. The nails were a bit thick, but I like somewhat thick nails. A dew days later, my thumb nail cracked. I only went back because I wanted to get if fixed and match the color. Horrible experience! The older lady Lisa is rather rude. I decided to get a pedicure too. Big mistake. After being there for over an hour on a Sunday and I still had dinner to fix. Well, the nail guy had a hard time matching the nail on my other hand. I ended up with a half round/half almond shaped nail. And I didn't have a half hour of my time for him to fix it. At the end off the day, I left with a funny looking thumb and I had to leave before the warm towel because I had food in the crockpot. I think this shop is good for older patrons.
