The ladies doing our nails did not communicate with us. This was not in a mean way, just stayed quiet. Fine. After a few jumps and whimpers of pain you'd think someone would say something. Sorry? Pain is never good when you're trying to treat yourself, but what was almost comical was the foot scrub. The scrubbing and callus treatment can almost forgive a rough cuticle experience. This scrub was less than 30 seconds. Just when it started to tickle and feel nice, it ended abruptly. Random extras: It might be the area this location is in, but the salon also did not seem to be very diverse. Facility was clean. The front desk lady was sweet and accommodating. Standard pricing. So, fast forward to this week it's Friday and they now have a yellow tint and are also chipped and snagging on 3 of the nails. So I go back and show them and they said that they can't do anything for free since I am ONE day over the 1 week fix policy. Pretty annoying since they cost $60 and only looked pretty for A WEEK... Before getting them on I was told that this dip powder stuff is stronger and thicker than no-chip so pretty annoyed they lied and didn't accommodate the inconvenience. Update 07/29: I called today and asked if they can fix my chipped no chip and Diana booked me for a 4pm appt. I got there and she was waiting for me. She fixed my nail and spoke about how they will work on their customer service moving forward. I would definitely come back because they were able to fix the issue. However, I'm still loyal to my neighborhood nail salon. ***************************** I had my no chip mani and pedi ($70) during my lunch break on Monday 07/25. Today, 07/27 I noticed a chip on my no-chip mani. I'm in accounting so the only "manual labor" I do is typing on my keyboard so there's no way my no-chip should have failed so soon. A little more detail on my experience at Nailtastic... I called at 11am to ask if they had availability at noon and they did (awesome). I came in and I was greeted by the manager/owner and was told to sign in and then pick my colors. The nail tech I was assigned to was quiet and kinda mean. She was very hard on my cuticles. I get a mani every 2 weeks and pedi every 4 weeks so there's no reason why she was putting so much elbow grease on my cuticles. I usually go to neighborhood salon but they were booked up. Anyways, my nail tech said 3 things to me: Cut or file (nails)? Wanna pay now? Back rub? I don't get the reviews that this place was warm and inviting because it was the exact opposite. Went in to get my dip nails removed. They don't have a nail drill so they used a disposable flimsy file instead that didn't take anything off. I waited 45 minutes for them to soak off and then she processed to use the same files to try to get the rest off. She wasn't able to get all of it off and ripped my cuticles apart by the nail file. There's still dip left on my nail and they are all filed slanted. In addition, she didn't use any hygiene products or wash her hands or change gloves in between clients. read more

I've now been to Nailtastic several times for manicures. They have a great array of nail polishes for me - I still stick to a regular mani. For the no-chip people - they seem to have all the best options. I've been when I have an appointment and when I don't - they are always pretty accommodating and I've never been turned away. It's very clean and appealing inside. They do a good job filing and cleaning up my cuticles. You also get a light massage and a hot towel on your hands post-lotion. The best part of nailtastic is that the polish application can last a good two weeks. I'm not sure how they do it but my regular mani stays really well. My only issue is that the chairs for manicures are not super comfortable. Some of them roll a lot during the service and others have stays to keep them from rolling. I've yet to have a pedicure there but I imagine it will be as excellent as the manicures. They have the nice thrones that look so comfy. Definitely recommend this place for a manicure that lasts! Appointments are key during peak evening hours during the week. read more

Technique is pretty perfect, I just went recently and I had asked for an extra 10 minute massage on my feet and it was glorious. I came here on 7/19 to get a dip manicure and it was a very disappointing experience. The finish of the manicure was VERY grainy after two dip top coats. It visibly looked like sandpaper! They put a gel top coat, but the gel peeled off on its own overnight. I went on Monday 7/22 and asked that they fix it. They buffed the nails and applied two more dip top coats. Not only was there still some gel top coat (very visible on the middle finger), but the dip chipped (ring finger) in basically a week! Dip is supposed to last at least 2 weeks, if not 3. I would not come back, especially after paying $50 + tip. read more

I have gone to this nail salon sporadically over the past several years and I try hard to like it because its very convenient but more times than not, I am disappointed in my nail service. This time in particular, my nails didn't even last 24 hours! I stopped in here on Saturday morning. The decor in here is really nice and makes you feel like you will get top service. I live right around the corner, so the location is perfect. Everyone here was very nice and helpful. They have a lot of color choices. I started with my pedi. The lady did an awesome job! The massage felt great and my feet felt so much better when I walked out. My no-chip manicure is flawless. I did a white shellac color and it looks amazing. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the duration. The manicure and pedicure took a little over 2 hours. Since this was a Saturday morning it was no big deal, but most of the time I get my mani/pedi after work and this was way too long for two services. However, I will most definitely be back. I was really excited that a new Nail Salon opened in River North. The space is open and clean, very very clean! The staff is really friendly. The bonus of this nail salon is that the pedi and mani massages are twice as long as as any other nail salon I have visited. They open a new set of tools for each customer, which is wonderful, (And I think it's the law, but most don't.) I prefer you ask for a shoulder massage after your mani. It's wonderful, and they use a hot towel after the massage on your neck and shoulders. The nail salon offers you beverages upon arrival, and they offer a rewards card. I know this place has a lot of good reviews, but unfortunately my experience was not so great. I came here with a group of friends to get Mania and pedis. they were very accommodating even though it was short notice. The salon was nice and clean and I really liked the receptionist. I got a no chip pedicure, first no chip pedicure I've ever received actually. But literally the very next day,less than 24 hours later my no chip chipped. I don't live close to the salon but I called and went to get it fixed because I knew it would bother me unless I did. So I went back and had it fixed, when I got there, the lady was fixing it made the situation feel super awkward by not really talking to me at all and acting like I was an inconvenience. She didn't even remove the entire toenail polish just at the corner where it had chipped. Then literally exactly 6 days later, eight of my 10 toes all lost the nail polish. The only toes with polish on them now are my big toes. The WORST part of the whole thing is that this pedicure was $50, and was super basic. So I paid $50 for a pedicure that lasted a week. I've had regular nail polish stay on much longer for less money. Huge disappointment, I'll never be back. read more

The app "Whittl" brought me to this nail salon. (I met with Whittl people at my latest Yelp event and by downloading the app, received a $20 credit towards any salon!) This one in particular is pretty close to home and had great Yelp reviews. Made my appointment via Whittl (so easy and cool- highly recommend using it) and showed up this past Tuesday. Was taken right away. Love how they have ALL of their polish colors painted on plastic fake nails- so much better than judging the outside of the bottle. The interior is very modern, clean and minimalistic. No tvs, some quiet Adele playing in the background, and very bright with large windows facing Orleans. A man did my entire prep, but then a lady named Diana switched and took over for the polish. Not sure why that was....maybe she's just better at polishing than he is? I just went to Nailtastic for the second time. I live about three blocks away and only last week discovered they were there. They took me as a walk-in both days - for a manicure last week and a mani-pedi today. It's a nice, bright, clean facility and the staff is quite efficient. The location can't be beat, since it's right between East Bank and my home. My husband has been going to a different salon in the area for a few years; we split up after we left the gym this afternoon so we could each go to our preferred salon. He showed up at Nailtastic while my manicure was under way because his usual place had too long a wait. He's now a convert. read more

I have been meaning to review this salon forever! I've probably been here about a dozen times and am usually extremely pleased with the result. Unfortunately today was the exception. THE BAD: I went in around noon with no appt and waited about 15 minutes to be seen (by the time I left at 2 there was no one there just FYI if you're trying to avoid a crowd). No big deal I wasn't in any rush and was happy to sit a soak. When the pedicure started by girl seemed to just be going through the motions. Everything was quick and sloppy. She didn't even scrape under the toenails or use the pumice stone. The paint job does look good but I feel like she skipped the best/most relaxing parts! Onto the nails, as I said I've gotten my nails done here many times. They have these really cool stamp plates that transfer patterns onto your nails (see picture). So today I thought I'd do white nails with one of these stamp plates. It did not work out. It seemed like no one knew how to use them. After thirty minutes I just said forget it and pointed out another pattern they could just draw on that was in their nail samples. The girl did something completely different and only did it on one nail even though i specified that I wanted it on a couple of my nails. At that point I had been there for two hours and just wanted to leave so I just said it was ok. Additionally, when your nails are drying they usually ask if you want a shoulder rub which I was not offered today. Definitely could have used it after the long wait to figure out my nails. I do have to say there seemed to be an issue with translation today. There's usually a young woman there who kind of translates what the clients want and she was no where to be found so that might have contributed to the poor experience. Of course I tipped pre-mani because I didn't want to chip my nails digging through my purse and I'm slightly irritated I gave 20% for such mediocre service. THE GOOD: As I said, most of my experiences have been really positive. The salon is bright and clean. I usually come in with pictures off of pinterest which I'm sure isn't the easiest for them but they do a great job. The wait is usually minimal. There's one girl in particular that is super talented. She does the Essie water color nail manicures. They're only available in regular nail polish but they look amazing. I've gotten a couple of different patterns and people are always super impressed (see pic of watercolor samples). For a regular mani pedi I paid $55. Its been a while since I got gel so I can't quite remember the price but I think that its fair. ITs definitely a popular spot. They're always busy! Overall I would absolutely recommend this salon. 1 bad experience doesn't outweigh all the good ones but it did bump my 5 star rating down to a 4! read more

I've been looking for a nail salon near my apartment since I've moved here and have tried out a few. I really wanted to like this place since it's close by and had a lot of good reviews. I got a mani and pedi here (~$45). The pedi was nice and has last for awhile, however my nails weren't trimmed much. Also, the pedi went by super quick. I love getting pedicures because I like relaxing in the massage chair and just kind of zoned out, so I was a little sad that they were done so quickly. However, my toe nails did look nice. The mani was next, and it was kind of a tight squeeze in the chair and just your normal mani. I do enjoy the small massage they do on your hand and they did file my nails how I asked. Again, it was a quick service but overall, my nails looked decent. The file was pretty good, not perfect. The polish looked good, but again was not perfect. When I left, I could tell on the sides that it looked like it might peel soon. I know I did not get the no-chip mani, but my nail polish was peeling by the next day already. 2 days later, half of my polish was already gone. I picked an OPI color, but I'm not sure what brand the top and base coats were. Plus, they rushed through layering on the polish which is why I think it peeled so quickly. I think I will have to continue my search for a new nail place in Chicago. read more

So I used to LOVE this place. It's really a 3.5 now. It's a bit more expensive than most places but I felt like they did a really great job...it's went downhill a bit They still have great colors. Clean salon. Nice staff...but the quality of their no chips have went way down. They paint the nail good BUT they do not pay enough attention to the tips of the nails. The paint is scratchy and bumpy on the ends. For me, this is the most important part because that is ALWAYS where my nails chip first. I just got my nails done yesterday and already on my right middle finger tip, there is a small chip. I'm going to wait to call them to fix it because it looks like several are going to chip because the tips are not smooth... UPDATE!!! So they got ahold of me to come in and get my nails fixed. They are really nice. They actually redid my entire manicure. And the girl tried to do it so perfectly. I really appreciated that. read more

I love the decor, the service, the talented technicians and the overall feeling that its "spa-like" without the spa prices. The kicker for me is that when I first came to Nailtastic, I had no-chip on for a few weeks. Boy did I not realize how bad of shape my nails were because of cheap products used at a nail salon down the street. The technician recommended me to get regular manicures for at least a few months (even though I had come in for a no-chip). This showed me they really care about the health/look of your nails instead of trying to make more $$ like most salons forcing you to get no-chip manicures. I asked for a gel manicure and pedicure. The manicure nail technician didn't tell me that the polish I picked wasn't gel and I got the 'weekly' polish. I've been living in the River North area for the past 6 months and have been here for 2 pedicures and 4 no-chip (we call them gel in DC?) manicures. Consistently great. Sometimes I'm offered a drink, sometimes I ask, sometimes I bring my own. Sometimes I make an appointment and sometimes I don't. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes and if I do, it's with my feet in warm water with my lower back massaged in a chair so....no complaints there! This most recent pedicure by Amina was the best I've ever had anywhere. She took her time, was patient with my ticklishness, and made sure it was dry even though it was after they'd closed. Amy was nice, quiet, and diligent with her work. My cuticles could be cut down a little more, but she was very nice to talk to. I got an OPI no chip manicure and got the pastel sunglasses color (yellow). The service was nice and the salon itself was clean and playing music I would hear on the radio, which is nice. I enjoyed my experience here. It had been a week and my nails have already grown. More attention could have been paid to the skin surrounding my nails, but the paint job is great for me! read more

Terrible customer service. I was a loyal customer that had been here many times. I usually Venmo for the tip and in June I went to a bachelorette party and accidentally Venmoed one the technicians $300 with a clear Bachelorette message. I sent a message to ask if she can send back and no reply for days. Finally I went in and I let the owner know and she insisted that she didn't see it and instead of asking her to send it back right away she condescendingly asked if I was in recently and spent that much. Who spends $300 on nails?? I finally got the money back but today was the last straw. I went in for a nail repair and the owner walked away from me several times in the middle of our conversation. I am posting as a follow up to my original review .... It has been a week and a half and every single nail has chipped ... The last no chip I had, from a different waking, last four weeks without a single chip. I noticed when I had originally gone that she had not done the edges/tips of my nails the way my regular salon usually does, but was so happy then that I didn't bother to say anything. Well now I learned my expensive mistake. I am very upset that I paid that much money for a no chip that has chipped on every nail after a week and two days ..... I'm from the suburbs and have a salon that I always go to. This summer I'm temporarily living downtown and was looking for a salon to go to while I'm here. Reading through a few reviews this place seemed like a good fit for me and I am very impressed. Upon first coming in the first thing I noticed was how clean it was! 5 stars for cleanliness, this was by far the cleanest salon I have been to. Another 5 stars goes to making me feel comfortable as other salons I frequently go to in the suburbs spend the whole time speaking to one another in their language, making customers feel like it is about them. I've been going to Nailtastic Studio for about 3 years consistently. I have purchased gift cards for friends and family and I've told several people about how great they were UNTIL I got my nails done on 12/4/2018 and the no chip was not done properly. Every single one of my nails began to chip at the top of each finger. As a repeat customer, I contacted Nailtastic asking if they would fix it, but because it had been 7 days from my date of service they told me they'd charge me $5 PER NAIL to fix the mistake they made (a total of $50 to fix a botched no chip mani). It took me 7 days to call them because I was out of town and unable to go in sooner. The only other option they gave me was to have them completely re-done for $35. This is unacceptable and I cannot believe they would treat a repeat customer like this. DO NOT GO HERE. Save your business for a place that actually cares. read more
