The samgyetang or chicken ginseng soup, had a light and healthy broth, with its contents suffused in the rice. The dumplings' skins came apart but had a good consistency. The bonchan was a bit lacking in variety.
Many of the stores in the Murray Hill Plaza strip mall on Northern Blvd have turned over and we wanted to try a bunch of the new ones, like Naju Gomtang. It wasn't too busy on a Tuesday night and we were seated promptly at a table with the long bench along the left wall. For some reason, there is an antique Coke machine as you walk in. There are also a few semi-private dining booths along the opposite wall. It seems the tables are custom made with a built-in hidden drawer holding napkins, chopsticks and spoons. I say it's custom made because the drawer dividers are a perfect snug fit for the napkins & utensils. The menu is pretty extensive and it helps that there are pictures and descriptions for each dish. The Seafood Scallion Pancake is THICK and crispy on the outside. It's more batter than seafood or scallions, but it is twice as thick as any I've ever seen and is very filling. The sweet soy sauce on the table goes very well with it. We had to try the restaurant namesake, Naju Gomtang Guksu Noodle Soup. The milky beef bone broth must have been simmering for hours, if not days and was full of flavor to go well with the chewy, handcut noodles. I was expecting pieces of beef in the soup, but that is in the "special" beef soup that I'll have to remember to order next time. The Dolsot Bibimbab is also good with lots of meat & vegetables atop a bed of rice in a hot stone bowl and topped with a runny fried egg. The bowl could have been hotter to create the crispy rice layer that we like. You mix it up yourself with the gochujang fiery red sweet/hot sauce and you're good to go. Japchae is one of my wife's favorite Korean dishes, so we had to have that. We also had the Shiitake Mushrooms & Crispy Tofu , a very Chinese vegetarian dish, which had a tasty brown sauce. Pass the rice, please!
My friends and I came to eat a much needed Asian meal after a weekend away and this truly cured us! The gomtang was warm and inviting. It came with beef slices and glass noodles inside and a side of rice. I didn't think it was too bland but still added a small pinch of salt. It's not something I'd crave all the time but still enjoyed it eating it! What surprised me was the tangsuyuk! We got the beef and it was amazing!! I honestly think my favorite of all the Chinese Korean places in the bayside/flushing area. The radish banchan was also SO GOOOD - probably my favorite that I've had in a long time too. Eager to come back for this and try some other dishes as well. Service was quick and lots of seating, for big groups too! Being in the Hmart plaza is another plus with the parking lot!
This place is SO GOOD. I'd eat here so often if it was more easily accessible by train. If you do have a car, it's definitely worth a visit. Located in a strip mall area with parking in deeper flushing, this inconspicuous Korean spot is a perfect spot for some yummy Korean food. Was specifically craving gomtang and got that, bibim naengmyeon, and jajangmyeon. Got the special gomtang which I think came with additional cuts of meat and that was delicious. Add some extra salt for flavor, but a perfect soothing dish for a cold day. To contrast, the bibim naengmyeong was great. Perfect funky fermented flavors mixed with bouncy noodles were great and refreshing to contrast the hearty gomtang. The jajangmyeon was also solid. Can't complain at all about it, but it is fairly standard to places you can get closer by. The space itself is big and had plenty of seating. Nice and cleanly. Wasn't busy when I went on a rainy Sunday, but can see it getting busy on a colder day. Service was also friendly and quick. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for Gomtang especially. I would love going here more often for some classic Korean fare. It will not change your worldview on Korean food if you didn't already like it, but you absolutely can't go wrong with this spot.
First time eating here today and it was a great experience! The restaurant was cool, and service was good. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, bibimbap, and black bean noodles. Noodles were perfectly chewy, sauces were light and not overwhelming. The banchan was also not too spicy and very tasty, perfect for me. Portions are big, but can be a bit pricey. Would come back!
Korean restaurants are all about service service service. This one is no different. They are open at 7am and I have no idea why it took me so long to discover this place!! They have jajamyun and the spicy chicken dish that I adore!! The place is spacious and there are drawers at each table with spoons, napkins, chopsticks so you can just self serve - which I absolutely LOVE! We've been here 2x in 2 weeks. Service has been excellent and their pork cutlet dish is huge! It's super convenient as they are part of the shopping center with the huge parking lot in front by HMart.
The restaurant is located in a shopping center which has a lot of parking spots. Once inside the restaurant, it has a very inviting atmosphere with a lot of space and seats. (A1) Haemul Pajun was really good, it is a seafood pancake that had a nice crisp and had complimentary sauces that you mix together to your liking. (R4) Maeun Suyuk Gomtang was a hearty spicy soup that contained pieces of beef and noodles. The spice level was not too much but I think its also because you can add extra spice to your liking. After your meal is done, they give you yogurt drinks to finish your meal off. Overall a very cozy restaurant with a bright and inviting atmosphere. Ordered the Special Naju Gomtang, the spicy version and an order of the jajangmyeon. The special naju gomtang is bomb; it comes with loaded with tendon, chunks of beef and other cuts. You add your own salt to taste and it comes out to a simple, beefy, and flavorful broth. Paired this with rice and it's 5/5 flavor. The spicy version is the same just be careful because it's pretty spicy. The jajangmyeon is 4/5, standard jajang sauce. I think it could use a tad more flavor. The banchan is just their house made kimchi and radish kimchi. The radish kimchi is 5/5 though, it's sweet, tangy but not too tangy and crunchy. Service is excellent, wait staff is attentive, refilled our radish kimchi when we ran out. Ambiance is your typical homey Korean restaurant.
The restaurant itself is spacious, well-lit, and clean. I'm almost always seated right away, and the ladies working there are always very friendly. I recommend the Naju Gomtang or Suyuk Gomtang over the spicy versions. Whenever I visit a gomtang restaurant, I always check the kimchi and radish first to see if they're richly seasoned and nicely fermented - a sign that the soup will be on point - and they definitely are! You don't need to add your own salt and pepper as much, but it's still perfect to pair with the kimchi and radish. We also got the Tangsuyuk, a classic Korean-Chinese dish, and it was really good. Overall, a great spot for a comforting and hearty soul food meal with great service. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area or looking for a nice place to dine alone!
3.5 stars - I've walked by Naju Gomtang so many times, but finally came here with my fiance to satisfy some soup cravings. The restaurant is really spacious, well lit, and clean. At 8pm, about a third of the restaurant was still filled but we were seated immediately. My fiance ordered the regular gomtang with rice, and I ordered the spicy gomtang with noodles. The waitress cautioned that it's super spicy, but I like spice! Contrary to the name, the regular gomtang comes with glass noodles and rice on the side! The spicy gomtang noodles are like jjamppong noodles (the yellow ones). Not my favorite, but portions were massive. Here's the thing - the spicy gomtang is almost like a peppery spicy, where it kicks you in the back of the throat but doesn't quite lend flavor or depth to the soup itself. I still added a good amount of salt. If I come back, I'd rather get the regular gomtang and add gochugaru myself. Beef portions were quite generous. Two types of banchan are served - kimchi & pickled radish. The kimchi was really delicious, but the radish was a little too fresh for me. As for service, there was 1 lady who was really sweet, but 1 who was quite rude. There was 0 hospitality from the rude waitress, and the only time she came by was to curtly take our order & also to drop off the check.
Huge portions, alright Korean Chinese fusion food. This is a very casual Korean neighborly restaurant. The Naju gomtang was a bit too salty and did not have that much depth in the soup. There were noodles which I enjoyed but it did soak up the soup pretty fast! The jjajangmyeon was super tasty and had tons of potatoes and onions mixed in! I wish there was meat, but the flavor of the black bean shined through! The sweet pork was crispy and drenched in the sweet sauce. Some parts were soggy due to the sauce but is expected. The seafood pancake was a bit thick for my liking, and the seafood pieces such as shrimp was large and I struggled to eat the pancake. Not my favorite place but it was decent and the portions are family style. We took a bunch of dishes home.
Loved it here. The ladies that run the spot are friendly and sweet. It was my first time trying yakult and I really liked it. The ladies offered me a 2nd one and one customer told me to go to H-Mart to buy some. Love older friendly Asian ladies. Noodles were delicious and loooooooooooooong. They give you scissors to cut the noodles. The sticky shrimp was delicious as well. It's a large establishment but very quiet. I loved it here and will be back.
Ordered the beef soup with noodles. It was a bit bland so you would have to add your own salt and pepper. I like to add the liquid from the kimchi and radish into the soup as well to add more flavor. I thought it was interesting that they used the jjajangmyeon noodle instead of the usual glass vermicelli other places used. So by adding that the soup was more filling. They also give a decent amount of beef and egg! Also ordered the pork cutlet w/ rice. The flavor was pretty good and it was cooked well. The price of the donkkaseu was expensive in my opinion though. Overall a decent casual spot for a quick meal.
This cozy restaurant is Flushing is a great spot for some homey Korean food. Located in a plaza, it has plenty of parking and is a convenient stop to grab a meal after grocery shopping. Service here is quick, and they have plenty of seating. We got their seafood pancake and their mul milmyeon. Both were amazing. Although we felt that their kimchi was pretty sour, their kkakdugi was so good. The portions for their seafood pancake was huge and the milmyeon was refreshing in the summer heat. read more

We ordered a plethora of items for a family dinner to take out. Once we got home the soup was still warm. We ordered the brisket beef soup and tendon. The soup broth was clean and light. Executed perfectly! They even give spice and salt on the side to add additional flavor your liking. The seafood pancake was firm filled with an abundance of seafood. We also got the sweet and sour chicken. The tempura fry was stiff but work. You didnt taste the oil in the batter. The sauce was great considering we are always used to the Chinese version. This was a nice change of pace. Would come back again! read more
Definitely one of my go to places for black bean noodles. The texture of the noodles is cooked perfectly and the black bean sauce has a lot of flavor. This time we decided to try the Spicy Garlic Fried Dish and we chose shrimp as the protein and it was absolutely delicious. The dish was a piping hot, lightly spicy, very garlicky and nicely tangy shrimp dish. The sauce was so good and I would absolutely get it again when I go back. Usually I get the Sweet and Sour Pork which is also so good. Both of these fried dishes pair so well with the black bean noodles! The service is always great and they make you feel welcome as soon as you enter. It is a pretty big location as well so I have never had trouble getting a table when I arrive which is great for when you're super hungry. read more

A great Korean restaurant with comforting food! I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was half full, but there's a good amount of tables inside so I didn't see anyone have to wait for a table. It's nice and clean inside, and staff was nice enough, didn't pay too much attention to us other than ordering. Upon seating, we got cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi, both were delicious. The utensils are also in a drawer on the side of the table which I really liked cause you can grab it yourself and it felt very nicely organized. There's a good amount of items on their menu from soups to rice dishes and shareable entrees. They have a good amount of dishes you'd find at Korean Chinese restaurants like tangsuyuk and jjajangmyeon. I got the special gomtang noodle and cream shrimp but sooo many of their dishes looked delicious! I love that they had pictures on their menu. The special gomtang noodle came piping hot in a stone pot with different cuts of beef and tendon, and plenty of the yellow noodle that you'd eat with jjajangmyeon. The soup tasted hearty, light, and warming. There's seasoning on the table if you want to season it yourself. It was definitely a filling bowl of noodles. The cream shrimp was also delicious. It had huge pieces of shrimp in the same batter that you'd find with tangsuyuk but it wasn't heavy and over-battered. The sauce was slightly sweet and reminded me of the Chinese walnut/mayo shrimp dish. It was over a bed of lettuce and they actually recommended to eat it together with the lettuce, which added a refreshing component. Loved and would recommend both the items I got. Food was delicious and I'd come back to try more things! They also end the meal with yakult yogurt drinks. The only con would be that prices seem higher than other Korean restaurants. read more
We had a party of 9 and made reservations. But the place was empty. The parking lot was full, but we got lucky and were able to get a spot. We ordered the following to share: Seafood Pancake Curry pork cutlet Mandu Sweet and sour pork For my entree, I ordered Spicy cold noodles. Love the kick in the spicy noodles. It's more spicy than the one in LA. The noodles were really good and chewy. Mandu and sweet & sour pork was also delicious. Our server was also very attentive. Overall a delicious hearty meal. read more
Korean restaurant apart of a strip mall. This place is simply decorated, very neat and clean. There is a main room with lots of tables for 2-4 people that can be combined for larger groups. They also have 2 private party room on the side. The food was fresh and delicious! They have a great selection of appetizers, noodle, and rice dishes. Dishes can be made not spicy, spicy or super spicy! We had the beef and rice dish, not spicy noodle with tendons and meat, the little spicy seafood dish with rice. The soup broth was amazing and tasty! Service was superb! The food came out pretty fast. The wait staff were attentive and refilled our tea cups often. We all left full and happy! def worth a return visit!!! read more

We went here because we heard the jjajangmyeon was really good. You wonder why we went to a place with the name Gom Tang for brown noodles? We were disappointed in our usual Jjajangmyeon place so when we heard it was really good here, we had to try it. I will say it tasted pretty good. I think it goes a little south when you expect to have the pickled radish and onions to accompany the jjajangmyeon. Well, not here. Yes they have jjajangmyeon and jjambbong but that's where the similarity ends. This is not a jjajangmyeon place so do not expect pickled radish and onions. I ordered the special gom tang, and for that I would have given this place 4 stars. Only issue is they tried to do too much. The Jjambbong was not good and expensive. Granted it was brimming with seafood but when I have Jjambbong, I look forward to the rich spicy broth. This broth was not tasty. Fun fact. Each table has a side drawer which houses extra spoons, chopsticks and napkins. Would I go back? Only if I was craving the Gom tang. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime for the other items on the menu. Now as for jjajangmyeon and Jjambbong, I need to find a new jjajangmyeon restaurant. read more

The best tasting 깍두기 and 김치 that pairs perfectly with their 나주 곰탕! This was just the meal we needed - the soup was very very hot, so you have to be patient! I got the spicy version, but I'd recommend getting the original so that you can pair the soup/rice with the spicier side dishes. We also shared the 해물파전, which was perfectly crispy and thick but it was lacking the seafood flavor. It was mainly onions and scallion with a little bit of squid and shrimp. read more
Delicious Korean food on Northern Blvd! I have been here twice and have ordered the Gomtang noodles both times. Once I got the regular because they ran out of the special and the next time I got to try the Special Gomtang. It is $4 more expensive, but I would still recommend it because I love eating beef tendon with the different textures that I gives. The staff is very friendly, and the interior is very large and inviting. I also like how they have a drawer of utensils and napkins at each table so you can grab it yourself. Very convenient. Parking is also easy because of the large shared parking lot in the Hmart shopping plaza. read more
Went here on an early Sunday morning and the place wasn't crowded, which was great. I'm Korean so I don't expect amazing service when I got to a Korean restaurant. TBT service was mediocre. I had to flag someone down to take our order, order soda nor a kimchi trill was offered. My rating is purely on the food and decor. Chopsticks and spoons are in a hidden side compartment on the tables, very Korean -esque! Radish and cabbage kimchi were both amazing. We ordered the Naju Gomtang which came already seasoned and boiling. It was a healing experience. The fried dumplings were crispy, hot, and delicious. My 6 year old son gobbled up the radish kimchi, dumplings, and half my bone soup! Would definitely come on an early Sunday morning before the Korean churches let out! read more

I came to Naju Gomtang with no expectations. My friend and I both got the beef noodle soup, they were both good, however the broth was a bit bland and definitely needed the salt and chili flakes on the side. The seafood pancake was delicious and my favorite part of the meal! The service was really good and the staff was very nice. read more
I have been looking for a good Chinese Korean restaurant for years. Chinese Korean restaurants specialize in dishes like Jjajangmyeon (noodles with black bean sauce), Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). While there are some decent places in Flushing, there is always something that is just off at all of them. Either their Jjajangmyeon is too watery or not tasty enough or their Jjamppong is spicy but has no body in their broth. Really good Jjajangmyeon in particular seems to be extremely rare. So when I heard a foodie couple mention they had a really good one, I had to try it for myself. I was a little surprised when I heard the name of the restaurant was Naju Gomtang because Gomtang is a traditional Korean beef bone soup, not a Chinese Korean dish. However, this couple has never steered us wrong before so we gave it a shot. While the Jjajangmyeon dish was pretty good like they said, there were some significant items missing from the meal that they did not mention that had me questioning whether my blind faith in their recommendations was misplaced. The first item was meat in the Jjajangmyeon, specifically pork belly, which I believe is absolutely necessary for a really good Jjajangmyeon. The second item was the danmuji (pickled yellow radish). I have never gone to a restaurant that served Jjajangmyeon that did not also give danmuji as a side. The pickled flavor of this side dish provides a real contrast to the deep earthy flavors of the Jjajangmyeon. The Jjajangmyeon was prepared so well that I could almost overlook the first omission, but the second omission was unforgivable. We also ordered the Jjamppong and the Naju Gomtang, both of which were good although there are better places for those dishes as well. read more
A great place to get a Korean rice or noodle beef soup. The price was a bit high when we looked at the menu. We order beef noodle soup and also sweet and sour pork. The beef noodle soup was $18 and the pork was $29. Then once the sweet and sour pork arrived, we knew that price was worth it. It was a large plate completely filled with meat. Flavor was lighter than the sweet and sour taste comparing to the Chinese restaurant. It was super crispy when it first came out then as we continued, the sauce made the crispness disappear. The noodle soup was pure beef broth with beef, nothing else. We didn't taste any salt, well there was salt available on the table. Noodle texture was cooked perfectly with the right of chewiness. Naju Gomtang 156-18 Northern Blvd, Queens, NY 11354 . Since pizzamaru closed we don't frequent the area/strip mall as often. Maybe the Hmart every now and then...but we know there are restaurants on that side of the strip mall and we decided to give this one a try.. they also have all of the pictures in the front of their restaurant, and that's what caught my eyes... . Upon walking in, I was getting Daesung Korean Noodle vibes. They serve similar items but Naju also has the Korean/Chinese options... their food options are comfort foods. Heavy on the carbs and meats. Also, depending on what you order, the portions are pretty big... but it is on the pricier side, definitely not a cheap eats kind of place. Most customers doggie bag, as myself... . I like how they have noodle or rice option soups. Depending on your mood. Can't go wrong with either.. . Their seafood pancakes were stuffed with shrimp. I had a slice that had like 4 whole shrimps. They aren't giant but they are whole shrimps... it was crispy on the outside and doughy goodness inside... . I won't go on to describe everything we ate but trust me, everything we ate was good, even their unlimited kimchi and kimchi radish is very good... meal ends with some yakult read more

The restaurant itself is clean and nice but the orders had not much salt so i couldn't taste flavor. If you watch your sodium intake maybe this place is good. read more
The perfect place to satisfy my craving for jajangmyeon! Was craving some jajangmyeon and stumbled across Naju Gomtang, a relatively new restaurant to the area. The staff here were so nice and immediately greeted me at the door. I got the jajangmyeon and was given some kimchi and kimchi radish (both delicious and able to curve my hunger before the noodles arrived) The portions here are definitely smaller than some of the other restaurants in the area, but nonetheless very generous. The noodles had the perfect chew and was covered in a delicious black bean sauce. Def hit the spot! For $13 this was a easy and quick lunch. The restaurant is also very clean and has a very modern feel. On a separate occasion, I also ordered their Dubu Tangsu, sweet and sour tofu. They make their tofu fresh everyday, and you can definitely tell. The tofu is soft and flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the sweet and sour sauce. Overall, very good restaurant to dine at and order from, although a bit more expensive then your typical Chinese-Korean restaurant. read more

Perfect spot for a cold winter day! The place is clean, spacious, & cozy. Service was great! We got the seafood pancake as an appetizer and it was a huge portion. The pancake itself was thick but crispy, chewy, and loaded with toppings! My friend got the beef soup with rice which came with glass noodles inside too, and I got the spicy beef soup noodles. Both our soups were very hearty and healthy! Some people might call it bland but keep in mind that gomtang is supposed to taste mild but you can pair it with kimchi and it's the perfect combination. Both our portions were huge. My spicy beef soup noodles was pretty spicy so keep that in mind if you're looking at that! The noodles were also perfectly chewy. They gave us a yakult drink after we paid the bill haha! Will definitely come back to try other dishes :) read more

My friends and I came here last night for dinner. We had to discuss business and we requested a private room which is available. There's a bell that you can press for the waitress to come to your table. There's plenty of free parking outside, it's a very clean and well-organized restaurant and the food is very delicious. This place brings so much comfort to my soul. It is like a warm hug in a bowl. This is the best spot to go to for a good bowl of beef soup. It's filled with flavor and nutrition. You can choose to either have noodles or rice with it. If you enjoy spice, the spicy version is worth trying but it does have quite a kick. I will definitely be coming back again and bringing friends, especially on colder nights. read more
