    Pork broth and rice

Oh. My. God. Just go. Food felt so home-y, warm, and just hits. I will 100% be coming back. We stopped by a random weekday for lunch and it was not busy, got seated immediately and served shortly after got served delicious food. Seating is bar esque/chefs table. The donkatsu was cooked to perfection- crispy outside, juicy inside. The kimchi was such a good accompaniment to everything. The mandu was a bit spicy but the skin on it was thin and not doughy which was amazing. I cant wait to go back- selfishly happy the hype died down from the show but also I highly recommend everyone go and try it.

Finally got a chance to dinein this restaurant. Okdongsik is famous because the Culinary Class War 2 Netflix korean cooking competition. And he is know for his broth soup, gomtang. There's 2 location in ny, we went to the one in BaySide. 30min ride from Flushing No reservation, walk in only When we got there 30min before they open, no one in line, but soon after, line starts, but not that bad. Seating: bar seating only about 15 ppl. Food serve very fast. Restroom: 1 gender neutral restroom We ordered: Mung bean Pancake Kimchi mandoo Dweji gomtang So Bbol gomtang We ordered small size gomtang, it's pretty big. Such a comforting food. I will eat this again Overall 5/5.

Wanted to give this place another shot when a friend wanted to try it out. They added a utensils and tea setup for you to grab yourself, so there's less interactions with the staff. They changed the kimchi from radish to a cabbage. It seems to be a quick kimchi, so not as fermented (if at all). It has a nice bite to it, but does not have much flavor, so they are maintaining that clean flavor profile. The Dweji Gomtang (Regular) was even lighter in flavor than the last time I was here. Maybe I'm just not getting the flavor that everyone else seems to be getting, but that would mean there is a lack in consistency, which is disappointing for a restaurant that specializes in this dish. The meat was still tasty and well cooked though, so that was enjoyable. The addition of the Gochu Ji added a much needed boost of flavor. The Lard Donkatsu was crisp and had decent flavor, especially with the donkatsu sauce. I do wish it had a lemon wedge to add some brightness to the dish. The cabbage salad, pickles (still listed as pickled pepper on the menu, but it seems to be peppered pickles now) and potato salad did help refresh the palate a bit. The cabbage salad and pickles had a good crisp bite to them. This dish comes with a soup and rice as well. The soup was pretty good, with more flavor than the Dweji Gomtang. The rice was well cooked, and a great vessel for the donkatsu sauce. The Ebi Katsu was crispy and went well with the tartar sauce. The shrimps are sizable and has a good ratio to the breading. My favorite dish of the meal. The Lemon Ade has a good lemon-y tartness. Overall, still disappointed with the lack of savory-ness from signature dish. I am happy to see some changes in the menu though, and they were getting many customers. Maybe their katsu dishes are the way to go.

Had a really satisfying meal at Okdongsik that highlights just how good simplicity can be. The dweji gomtang was incredibly clean and comforting--light yet full of depth, with a pure, almost delicate pork flavor that didn't feel heavy at all. It's the kind of bowl that feels thoughtfully made and easy to keep going back to. The lard tonkatsu was just as impressive in a different way--crispy, rich, and perfectly fried, but still not overwhelming. Overall, everything felt intentional and refined without trying too hard. A great spot if you appreciate clean, simple flavors done really well.

Came here with some friends after watching culinary class wars. I was so excited to try this dish as it's what got the contestant to go on to the next round Honestly, I don't think it's anything too special. It's definitely unique as I haven't had something like this before but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The soup is very clean and simple We also got the pork donkatsu and I would say that dish left a more lasting impression for me as it was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The seasoning was perfect as well. Normally, I don't like Korean dumplings but the kimchi mandoo here was amazing

I really wanted to try the pork collar but unfortunately it wasn't available for take out. Ended up getting the dweji gomtang and the lard donkatsu. Packaged beautifully and both were delectable. The pork katsu was soft and crunchy, tender and the sides were nice complements: potato salad and cabbage. The soup for the dweji gomtang was calm and light. There were thin slices of pork on top, lightly seasoned. I should come back next time to try the pork collar.

Sometimes simplicity is the way to go! The chefs here knows what they're doing! The place is fairly small with a small menu. Recommend in coming with a +1 kind of spot. We ordered the Dweji-Gomtang, Naeng Jeyuk and the Lard Donkatsu. The Dweji-Gomtang has that pork essence it has the right amount of fattiness to it and bathe in a clean broth with rice under. It's like it's healthy but not at the same time! The Naeng Jeyuk was probably the best! slow cooked pork where you wrap it with the leaves and kimchi really hits the spot! Don't sleep on the Katsu as well! I was actually surprised how well it was fried. Not too oily, not over cooked or dry. It was cooked to perfection. I simply love these small shop spots. Where the chefs have mastered their craft! Doesn't have to be fancy, or exotic. Sometimes it just needs to be made the right way.

As avid fans of Culinary Class Wars, we were curious about Okdongsik after starting the second season. Evidently others felt the same because there was quite a wait when we went! We stopped in around 12PM on a Sunday, put our names down on their electronic waitlist, and waited about an hour before being seated. (It wasn't a problem since we explored the shops nearby, but the wait seemed to be an issue for those who came later and reached the 2:30PM end of lunch cutoff!) We of course had to try the famous dweji gomtang, and we got the kimchi mandu and shrimp katsu on the side as well. The dweji gomtang definitely had a clean and pure pork taste to it. I'll admit I found it a little one-note and perhaps not as mind-blowing as I've seen others rave about, but it was still delicious! I was just glad to have gotten the flavorful mandu and crispy katsu to round out the meal.

I came here for lunch. There was no line at 1130 am when it first opened, but it filled up by 12pm. Theres an IPad where you can be put on the waitlist. It goes fast so we were seated in 15 mins. The place is designed like an omakase bar. It has seats that wraps around and the staff is inside. Their menu is small, but I like quality over quantity. They specialize on the beef gomtang. They offer it in regular and a large. The large just has more meat. I thought the regular had a good amount of meat already. It comes with a separate dipping sauce for the meat. I found the soup and meat to be bland, but the rice had a nice chewy texture. My favorite dish is actually the pork katsu. The potato salad was so good and so are the other sides that it came with. The shrimp katsu was good too. The pork collar was okay. The kimchi mandu was really good. The skin was thin and the filling was flavorful. Yes the chef was on Netflix Culinary Wars.

We were hesitated to go in for the first time because it looked like a omakase place. But it actually a place with very limited menu. That means it is very good at that specific dish. In the beginning, it only had Korean gomtang as entree. It was wonderful! I had gomtang in other Korean restaurants but this one was other level. The pork was soft and tasty. The soup was clear, fresh and comforting. Per instructions, adding gojujang on the meat... it tasted so good! And with that price, I felt like other places were overpriced. Not to mention, the kimchi dumplings were great too. Recently, we went there again. I am glad that the menu expanded. I still order the yummy gomtang and my husband ordered katsu set. The Katsu was well-executed. My friend had solongtang and it looked really good. I think I will try next time. Yes, I will go again!

Okdongsik in Bayside is a great fast casual spot. Reminiscent of their Korean location that only has bar seating, it can definitely get busy if you come at peak times. The broth is clean and fresh and nourishing on a cold day. Would recommend the seafood pancake! I personally am not of a fan of their mandu even in the Korean location but I preferred the dumplings here to the ones in Korea. If you are missing the one in Korea or looking to try it out, would recommend!

Came to Okdongsik after watching culinary class wars 2 and everything was as expected. The place in Bayside was pretty small, probably seats 10-12 people at a time, but I assume it's less crowded than the Manhattan one. We arrived at 11:25a for 11:30a opening on a weekend but there was already a line outside and we were the second round to be seated, so the wait was about 1 hour. When we got seated, the staff were very efficient. Not too many things on the menu so we ordered most of the dishes right away. Everything tasted awesome! The pork rice soup was as expected, a very well made meat soup, with very subtle but quality in the flavors. The pork slices were thin, soft, and flavorful, one of the most tender pork pieces I've ever tried. The kimchi mandoo was very good as well, looks ordinary but tastes pretty amazing. Would definitely come again if we are around the area!

Came here on a cold winter night. The server was very nice. Very helpful also giving his recommendations on the menu. We ordered almost everything haha. The soup was delicious. Not a super strong tasting soup but it tasted so clean. The meat was delicious. We got the katsu and it was crispy and juicy. The kimchi dumplings were good. Spicy for me but delicious. It definitely lived up to its popularity.

    Pork Donkatsu, excellent!!

Let's start with the noodle. It is al dente and carry the soup really well. The braised beef made well too. The tenderness is just fine. However, I missed the big piece of meat instead of bite size chopped cube. It is easy to eat but could be more satisfying. The Shanghainese Pok Choy is a must in order to complete this dish authentically. However, it's overly chopped. I missed the couple halved Shanghainese Pok Choy placed nicely on the side. For the soup, the fave is fine and the balance of the sour and savory is just to the point. However, I wish I could have more pickled veggie that added more sourness to the soup. It would be much better to place a container of pickled veggie on each table for the customer to add it freely. That would be perfect. This place is cozy, clean and neat. Thanks for the ambiance. Menu is very limited with the protein options though with a few choices of noodles (spicy, ramen, or soup versions). They also carry poke bowls which I have yet to try. And it came with half an egg, pickled radishes and broccoli. Another dish I enjoyed was the fish and cabbage hot pot. That was served with a bowl of rice. No noodles. Even with the spice level at "one pepper" rating, it was too much of a kick for me. But those that like spicy will enjoy it just fine. The fish pieces it came with were generous sized portions and this bowl was loaded with vegetables. Wood ear, mushrooms, cabbage, sliced white radish, and bean curd skin. It also has a few slices of spam (which I did order extra so I'm not sure if the normal is two slices). We also tried the pan fried pork gyoza which was perfectly fried on each side. Nice color. Taiwanese pork as a side comes with one pc per order. The fried chicken appetizer could use a little more spices but the chicken was so tender and very juicy. I liked it a lot. It does come with a dipping sauce which helps but I didn't use it much. All in all a good spot for take out but the menu will need to be expanded in order to have longevity. Sadly it didn't look busy each time I came to pick up. Staff is attentive and friendly.
